I know everybody loves Bijan Robinson, but what if he was gone and there were no good OL or WRs available and somebody offered Buffalo a 2nd + a 3rd for pick #27, who would you take?

Well, the draft pick value chart says to get a roughly equal value would be with Atlanta for #44 and 75.  So anything above #44 that for a 2nd and 3rd swap, Buffalo would be making out well with that trade.

Around that area, best Guard, WR, LB or Safety.  I think there is alot of good potential WRs and Oline in this draft.  Let's get 2.  Those 2 positions I wouldn't mind doubling up on.

I thought it might be interesting to put our loathing aside and really analyze how they pulled it off.  What they did is what I want the Bills to do - dominate for many years, and as long as they have Allen at QB.

They didn't have the ebb & flow that a team normally has, even w/ a top QB.  Their window was wide open for most of those 17 years. They made 9 SB's, and probably should have made 1-2 more.  My own thoughts:

    1) Obviously, Brady took less pay so the team could afford better players.  I still don't see that being as impactful as it's made out to be - he was still paid a lot.

    2) Aging vet stars took pay cuts just to play w/ Brady. Will we see that w/ Allen?

    3) The Patriots made very few investments in bigtime skill players.  Moss was the exception, not the rule.

    4) One of the hallmarks of Belichick was letting players walk before they started to decline.  Almost exactly what we're looking at w/ Poyer.

    5) Their biggest priority, year after year, was making sure the O-line was strong.  That's just what you do when you have a top QB.

Still, the run is somewhat mystifying.  Belichick was not a great drafter, which is usually needed once a QB gets past the rookie contract.  Superior coaching clearly played a part. I think BB got the best out of his players (which is something we aren't doing right now - we see players leave the Bills and perform better than they did here).

    Thoughts?

Brady could read defenses and get his team into the right play to take advantage.  He didn't have a problem dumping the ball for a 5 yard gain...

Belicheat can coach a defense REALLY WELL!

  3. Gunner, thanks for all the hard work on this mock.  I love reading your posts.

As for the first round, too bad Bijan didn't fall farther.  I NEVER want a RB in the 1st, but this guy is an exception if he could fall to us.

I would rather see Buffalo draft Dalton Kincaid, Tight End, Utah.  With Kincaid and Knox, I think we would start running more 2 WR/2TE/ 1RB sets.  Also having 2 TEs on the field will help protect Josh and the run game at the same time.  IMO, Kincaid is a beast.

  4. I always liked the idea of a subsidy of the QB position.

Basically you could deduct lets say the first 15Mil of the QB position from the salary cap.

So if you have 3 QBs on the roster and they are 40, 10, and 5 Mil cost (or 55Mil total), the cap hit would be 55-15 = 40 Mil.

And if you are under the 15Mil cost, then you can use the excess on other positions.

  5. I am firmly in the boat of having a group of RBs that you pick up in the mid rounds to share the RB position, BUT if this dude drops to 32 I think Buffalo should pick him up.  He is a very good RB and would add a great dimension to our offense.

A formation with Cook and Bijan in the backfield, Diggs, Gabe, and Knox...   Whoa!

  6. I'd like a franchise to start implementing the QB position just like the RB position.   Keep drafting a QB every year and see if they pan out.  Have 2-3 QBs always competing for the job and see who rises to the top and then build a great offense and defense will all the extra money you save on cheap QB.

If a Josh Allen (ELITE) comes along... You sign him long term and change your philosophy on the position for 15 years. :)

Anything less than Elite, you trade them away and get the extra draft capital out of them to make the team better.

A strong team with a "serviceable" QB can win in this league.

Lamar, Kyler, Wilson (in current state), Carr, are not elite IMO.

It may help make Baltimore's decision easier. But somebody is still going to pay Lamar Jackson. Even if Baltimore trades him for 2 firsts & change, whoever gets him is going to give him a Watson-esque contract. That's the problem with these QB contracts, the smart teams won't pay it, but there's enough dumb teams who will pay whatever it takes.

Sounds like a problem for the dumb teams.  I agree some team will pay out the wazoo for him.  Trade him! His backup is just as good as he is.

I was shocked when a reporter asked Dorsey about his play calling in the series near the 7 minutes left in the game mark and up 11

In that series we ran it on 1st down with incomplete passes on 2nd and 3rd down saving a critical minute for the Jets

Reporter basically asked didnt he consider running the ball 3x there to run clock and force the Jets into using some timeouts - his response was not a thought at all  - he wanted to keep the offense balanced

We cant have an OC living in a bubble not differentiating between play calling in the first quarter from calling plays in a 4th qtr with a lead  - we will get burned by this

IF we had a big battering ram and an offensive line that could get us 3-4 yards when the JETS are flooding ppl up to the line, then I'd say ok.

BUT with our offense, we are at an advantage at that time to throw the ball.  The LB's will be coming in and will leave gaps for players to run into.  WE JUST HAVE TO CATCH THE DAMN BALL!!!

Don't take the foot off the accelerator.

Rare underdog spot for the Bills but I get it. Chiefs are a damn good team...going to take a great effort on both sides of the ball to beat them in their house...

Chiefs Def isn't very good.  Take the over on that one.

Great win by the Bills! Seeing Keenum again brought about some reminders of his play.

This is the second blowout where Josh Allen moved the offense at will, then Keenum comes in and looks totally lost. Can barely get a first down. Doesn’t score at all.

Here are the Keenum led drives:

    Punt

    Punt

    Punt

    Punt

    End of game

Barkley at least could move the offense a little bit after coming in from 2018 to 2020. Even won a game starting. No, he wasn’t great - i’m not making that argument.

Here is my question: Does anyone have confidence that Keenum can win a game if he ever needed to?

Maybe we could trade for Tribusky and get him back?  Do you think the Steelers would pay most of his remaining salary and only take a 12 pack of Labatt's Blue for him?
