I’m hoping for a house cleaning I like Atlanta.
What wasted talent there. I can see them not going full rebuild and just trying to solidify the defense though. Seems to be the smart route. How can a team with Julio, Ridley, and hooper not be an offensive juggernaut? The defense has always been suspect. Hindsight they were only good with shanahan and been kinda crappy every other year

I could see Atlanta trade Julio.  Like you said, they still have Ridley to be their #1.  They traded Sanu to NE for a 2nd... :)

I would NOT break the bank for Julio though.  Expensive contract.  Getting older. I wouldn't give more than a 2nd-3rd round pick for him. (or multiple lower picks).

What Buffalo needs is a true #1 WR.  Free Agent, Trade, Draft, don't really care how ya get him.  We do not need more *mediocre* (in the best way possible) WR's on this team.

I would be fine w/ AB on this team, but VERY cap friendly deal, all incentive based.

I would be fine for trading for Julio or Green, but not for a #1 pick.  They are good now, but for how long.  Not worth a #1 pick.

I would also like to get true elite speedy WR.  Someone that could blow the doors off the defense if they are not watching.  We have THE QB for this type of WR.  This type of WR could be found in the draft in later rounds.

    Pretty Simple

    Agree pretty much.

Only thing I'd add for Week 17.  The full team should be readied to play the Jets.  **Hopefully we kill the Jets in the first half**

Watch the scoreboard for the NE/Miami game (they play at the same time). If NE gets a big lead on Miami, then I'd pull the starters at halftime.

BUT it would be very good for the psyche of the team and fans if we have a TIE record wise with New England. (Both win)

Ooooof this is my least favorite part of the year in football. I never understood making 20 mock drafts and all the gm’s and scouts on here fighting over who is best at what pick and then throwing temper tantrums when we don’t pick who they want. Especially this early when a million things change. I’m on to New England now ??

Well, half the NFL teams are out of the playoff hunt, so those fans need something to talk about...  AND this year we ain't one of those teams... :)

I have a sneaky suspicion that he will the guy if they get a crack at him and want to go WR, and I wouldn't be mad at all. I think Daboll will fall in love with the idea of running him on sweeps, and in the backfield, and moving him around like a chess piece.

He's definitely a burner, but look at this highlight video:

Look at how many times the ball is hanging in the air between defenders and he goes up and beats them to the catch point. That's contested catches.

Wouldn't it be nice if we had a WR that Josh Allen couldn't overthrow??? :)

I think the depth of the WR class (I've heard some guys say 25 WR's in the top 100 prospects.... 25!!) will cause some teams to wait on WR's which could push one of the top 5 or so to us. I personally wouldn't hate waiting till the second round for a WR if there's an Edge rusher, TE, or OL that we want/is a better value.

I think as you can see with the Baltimore attack.  A great TE that can catch and block is worth a high draft pick.  I know we are kinda happy with our TE's right now, but if we can get another great one, let's do it...

  6. Hopefully Knox will be catching Juggs all off season...

Positions of most need:  WR, OL, DL, CB

I'd be happy with BPA from those positions for the first 3-4 rounds.

Later rounds we could use more OL, a TE, a RB, K, P.  Especially a freakin' punter.

Also, I'd be ok w/ Green, OBJ, or AB as long as the contract is almost all PERFORMANCE based.  Small base salary, LOTS of incentives to be a good teammate and playermaker on the field.

  7. Not too worried about Buffalo's Offense.  I think they will find a way to score 18-21 points.

Ravens play most of the time with multiple TE's to control the LOS and are also targets in the passing game.

The #1 thing is to stop the run (both QB and RB).

I think there are 2 ways to attack their offense.

    1) Be aggressive and attack the mesh point where Jackson/Ingram hands the ball off (or keeps it).  Make Jackson make a decision early, then run it down.

    2) Only blitz with a CB.  Because of Jackson's speed, I think you attack off the edge with a CB blitz to try and match his speed. (also try and get in quicker).  I do not think interior blitzes will be effective.

I would play 5/2/4 to try and neutralize their running game and live with the passing.

Have 5 down linemen (can mix LBs here too) to try and control the LOS, 2 LBs (one of these potentially a backup CB or Safety to spy Jackson), and 4 DBs.

With the ability to talk to the QB until 15 seconds are left on the play clock, every team should go no-huddle. This seems like such a big advantage for the offense particularly diagnosing defenses and controlling their ability to substitute on top of dictating tempo.

What are the downsides that I'm missing?

IF you think your best 11 players (whichever offensive set) is better than the 11 they would put up against that set AND your offensive team can communicate efficiently w/o huddling, then YES, having an offense that gets back up to the line and keeps that defense on the field can be a big tactical advantage.

You have to be able to snap the ball if they are trying to substitute.  Then you can start communicating the play to everyone, then after 15 secs ppl move to create the look you want, then execute.  This way it makes it harder for the defense to be optimal for the situation at hand.

  9. ok, let's change it up a bit... if you are building a team and how you would want to allocate *greatness*

24 Players on the field (both sides of ball):

Offense:  QB, RB, LT, RT, OG, OG, C, WR1, TE, WR2, (your option)last spot could be FB, WR3, RB2, TE2

    Defense: DT1, DE1, DE2, MLB1, OLB1, OLB2, Safety1, Safety2, CB1, CB2, (your option 4/3 or 3/4 DEF)last spot DT2 or MLB2

    Special Teams: K, P

Using the Bell Curve: Elite (1) / All Pro (2) / Solid Starter (3) / Below Avg Player (4) / Barely NFL Caliber (5) / Not Good (6) (The number is just so you can tell if someone is that level, not how many of each for that position).

Now, for Every Elite player you have, you have to match with Not Good, All Pro with Barely NFL and solid starter with Below avg player.

Example: remember adds up to 24: 2/3/7/7/3/2

    For me:  Breakdown per position  2 / 3 / 7 / 7 / 3 / 2

    QB   1

    RB    4

    LT    2

    RT   3

    OG    4

    OG    5

    C     3

    WR1   2

    WR2   3

    *WR3    6

    TE     4

    K    4

    P    4

    4/3 DEF

    DT1     3

    *DT2    5

    DE1      1

    DE2      3

    MLB1   3

    OLB1    4

    OLB2      5

    Safety1    4

    Safety2    6

    CB1   2

    CB2   3

This was interesting... My OLine is the best, but I have an elite QB that hopefully will make some good decisions with an All Pro WR.  And on defense I went with an elite DE to pressure the QB and an All pro CB to lock down other teams best WR.but my linebackers, safeties, and special teams suffered.

Ha ha ha okay. So many offenses are using the jet sweep motion on the regular in the NFL.

I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but Josh Allen and Tom Brady are different QB’s.

But hopefully Josh Allen is better than Tom Brady some day. :)

Yep, the are different.  They whole NewEngland comparison came from a post earlier about the conservative playcalling at the goal line and we didn't want to 'show' anything so we ran it 3 times up the gut.  All I said about that was NewEngland waits until it's garbage time to level out their playcalling tendancies... :)

We beat them by 15, the second largest margin of victory on Sunday. In addition, neither the Pats*** or Niners have beaten anyone either.

Believe whatever you’d like, but it makes perfect sense to me and, personally, I’ll listen to a smart man a year removed from a decade long career above others.

That's fine if you want to believe Wood.  Like others have said he's on the Bills payroll, so he's kinda obligated to say something nice.

I'm not even saying that Daboll isn't running a decent offensive scheme, but his playcalling is holding back this offense IMO.

Perfect example in from the Bills/Wash game, just on opposite sides - Wash Offense/Bills DEF.  We got gashed in the first half by Washington's running of the ball, but in the second half we adjusted to stop the run (put more ppl in the box / attack the LOS with more players) and shut them down.  But Washington couldn't take advantage that we focused to stop the run more bc they have a rookie QB in his first start...

Daboll's conservative playcalling in the second half stymied our offense just has much as Washington's DEF.

As for the Pats/Niners haven't beat anyone, that's not what I was taking about with Bellycheck mixing up types of plays AFTER he has put away the other team.

Just because we won by 15 doesn't mean that game was still up for grabs in the 4th QTR.

    Lead by QTR: 1st, Bills +10; 2nd, Bills +11, 3rd, Bills +8 (1 score), 4th Bills +15. (Lucky we have a good DEF)

As for the Pats and putting ppl away:  Here's their margin of victory...

    Steelers +30

    Dolphins +43

    Jets +16

    Bills +6

    Redskins +26

    Giants +21

    Jets +33

    Browns +14

    Baltimore -17

Most of their margins of victory are more points than we score in a whole game...

This was discussed on WGR yesterday and they said they are not showing any spread now as to limit what upcoming opponents see. Makes sense.

Also, I must admit I trust recent former professional players over someone on a message board. Doesn’t that make sense?

It's been said that Bellicheck does stuff like this to balance out tendencies in certain situations, but he does that in garbage time when his team has already won the game handily, not when the game is still in question.

I think all of us are 100% behind the Bills, but we have played weak competition and we are squeaking by because of our defense.  We cannot rely only on the defense to win the games.  That is why most Bills fans are upset/concerned.  We should have destroyed Washington.  We didn't.  IMO, the players executed pretty well on offense vs. Washington.... They ran the plays they were given... That's why I blame the playcalling for holding back this offense.

I was super frustrated when it happened.  But after sleeping on it, this is where your line has to win.  Good teams can do this and break through.  Nothing more frustrating for a defense then being beaten when you know what they are doing.

I had zero problems with running 3 times up the gut there, 1st and goal at the one... you should be able to get a yard...

Give the offense line a chance to push them back... they didn't.  No big deal.

My problem with Daboll's playcalling was more in the second half when we went into shell mode...  We need to distribute the ball around more, at different levels.

We are running ok vs. Washington, but a good playcaller knows.. 'Hey were up by 10 points, they are going to come out and try to stop the run. We need to take advantage of that.'

Play action pass to intermediate zone of the field, not a screen pass and not a bomb. A nice 10-20 yard comebacker or slant.  This keeps the defense off balanced and will keep the run open.

I just looked at SPOTRAC for Hughes contract: $14 MIL this year?  I am reading this correctly?

    https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/buffalo-bills/jerry-hughes-6540/

WHY are the Bills paying Jerry Hughes $14 mil this year?!?  He's basically invisible that I can tell.

    • 1. Rams defensive lineman Aaron Donald: $22.5 million
    • 2. Cowboys defensive lineman Demarcus Lawrence: $21 million
    • 3. Chiefs defensive lineman Frank Clark: $20.8 million
    • 4. Lions defensive lineman Trey Flowers: $18 million
    • 5. Saints defensive lineman Cameron Jordan: $17.5 million
    • 6. 49ers defensive lineman Dee Ford: $17 million
    • 7. Browns defensive lineman Olivier Vernon: $17 million
    • 8. Eagles defensive lineman Fletcher Cox: $17 million
    • 9. Falcons defensive lineman Grady Jarrett: $17 million
    • 10. Texans defensive lineman J.J. Watt: $16.7 million

He may be the most overpaid D lineman in the league?

Is he even the most overpaid D lineman on the team??? :)

  15. The reason why people/fans are having a hard time billeaving this team is for real is the way we have been winning.

Our D is legit, but this offense is just plain hard to watch sometimes.  We were up 17-6 at half and after that it looked like our offense went into a shell and played prevent throwing for almost the whole third and fourth quarters, leaning on our defense... A good team shouldn't do that.

I don't blame any of the players for this, I blame the coaches to call run, run, run all the time, trying to run out the clock instead of trying to attack Washington and pass *some*, not a ton, enough passing to keep the defense guessing.  We were running well yesterday, it was screaming play action pass down the field all second half.  I think we did it once or twice...

Coaches need to stop going into a shell up more than a TD... put teams away.

For anything but a first, I am all for it. Foster+3rd would be my ideal point. Would go up to a 2nd though as long as Green is healthy again.

For an expiring contract, I wouldn't want to give more than a 4th for him, BUT if we could negotiate a contract extension before the trade (sounds like Buff and Cinc have been talking for a while), then I could go up to a 2 or 3rd round choice or a 3rd and another later pick (5th or 6th).

Green has been hurt last couple of years and is over 30 now?? I think.
