I still find it weird out of all the athletic freaks that were active they picked the older not overly mobile quarterback to kick. Just a weird fit. On a rough night though his 50 yarder was a nice feel good moment.

It may have more to do with his ability to get a team set at the line of scrimmage, execute a snap count, catch a snap, and avoid taking a huge loss on a play gone bad.  They also figured even a guy with average athletic ability can get one downfield.  Finally, they probably felt putting the third string QB at risk was the best of all undesirable options.

  2. Teddy was a great play designer.  He was fortunate to have a QB that could make all of the throws, a running back that was an excellent runner, receiver and blocker, and wide receivers that were versatile.  It also didn't hurt to have a good o-line either.  Defenses were mostly caught with the wrong people on the field for the plays that Kelly called (audibles).  With McD's rotations on defense, the Bills could probably deal with some amount of fast no huddle if used strategically.  It sure was fun watching the K-gun roll.  It's a little premature make the comparison between Dorsey and Teddy but we may be justified in doing it at the end of the season.

  3. I believe Drake will catch on somewhere.  He has excellent receiving skills and speed. People should not forget that he was also a really good kick and punt returner at Alabama.  As others have pointed out, it is likely that an injury somewhere in the league will get him a job.

  4. Beane continues to do good work.  He acquires a surplus of decent players (better than many teams have) and flips them for draft picks.  When the team continues to draft at the end of each round, having some extra picks in order to move up can be important.  I would not be surprised if he moves someone from the d-line also.

Most important year of Baker’s career. Will either garner him starting job and 2nd contract next year or relegate him to a backup role.

It is really his last shot to hang onto a starting job in the league.  Not only does he have to perform but he also has to stay healthy and available. With about 6 projected first round QB's headed to the 2023 draft, some borderline guys will be headed to duty as clipboard holders.  Personally, when I see him play, I put him in the category of Chase Daniel or Case Keenum.  Good enough to be a very good backup but not a starter.

  6. These cuts will probably be players that the Bills will not want on the practice squad.  There may also be a veteran that knows that he isn't going to make the team and wants to get a chance to catch on elsewhere.  The Bills may also factor in what positions they need to fill for the last preseason game (depends on who they are holding out of the game).  There are more than four obvious cuts on this roster.

Moss is looking healthier and more explosive in my humble opinion.

You can never have enough quality depth. Trade these types of players will not be worth the draft pick you receive.

News flash!  The Bills can't keep them all and it is better to get something from a trade than to cut them and get nothing.  If Beane can't move any of them to another team, they will be released and the Bills get nothing for them.

  8. It might be a little too soon to think about this but I have to believe that Beane may be working the phones to work a trade or two.  After watching this game, I believe the Bills have a surplus of o-line and d-line talent.  Compared to what some other teams have for starters, Bills cuts will be an upgrade for them.  Teams like Seattle, Chicago, Atlanta, and Houston could make good trade targets.  A trade could seem like a good option for teams that may feel that they will miss out on the waiver wire merry go round.  Even a 6th or 7th round draft pick is better than letting guys walk and getting nothing.

    I wonder who gets Kupp.

Probably some combination of zones and double coverage in man to man situations.  The Rams are very good at using formations and motion to get the match ups that they want.  Bills are very good at hiding their coverage pre-snap, even when facing motion and different formations.  It should be a good game of "cat and mouse".

The pass rush will be the key to the Bills defense.

They should have never settled at all if they were in any way serious about this.  It should be an indefinite suspension.

Unfortunately, it always comes down to the dollars in a lucrative business.  Both sides decided that the cost and risk of losing litigation was more important than the moral outrage displayed by the public.

Honestly, how do you even put a number on this? But wasn’t he basically suspended all of last year too?

whatever, it’s another really good qb not playing and that’s good for the bills. Stupid trade by the browns.

If the Browns didn't negotiate an escape clause and/or a bonus recovery clause in the contract, they may be even dumber than most of us think.

The game GMs play is pretty interesting.  The Chargers have to know that this move puts intense pressure on Beane.  So they pay their guy and put another GM in a bind..

It's a reach to think that this will cause Beane to make a bad decision.  One team making a bad deal doesn't set the market for every other GM.  As good as Poyer has been, he plays a position that is more easily replaced than some others.  Beane will not blow up the long term financial management plan for the team to over pay a safety that is on the downward side of his career (from an age perspective).

To find examples,we only have to look at the crazy contracts that were given to Todd Gurley and Elliot to see that other GM's have not accepted those contracts as setting the market.  In fact, GM's have come to realize that running backs have a short shelf life and replacements are easily found.  If RB's won't sign a reasonable contract, teams are letting them walk and finding their low cost replacements in the middle rounds of the draft or in free agency.

  13. The video of any play tells the story for any football coach that takes the time to watch it.  They don't need to hear a player talk his way through the play or formation.  The context of the play (field position, down and distance, game score, etc.) also sheds a lot of light on the team's strategy.  None of this guarantees that the team will do the same thing in a future similar circumstance.  Therefore, all of this sounds like much to do about nothing.

Mahomes too.  If he chose to play that way.  He could have a lot more rushing TDs if he wanted them.

If Mahomes tried to play like Allen, he'd be leaving a game in a body bag.  As it is, he has been hurt more than once without the heavy dose of called runs.  He isn't as big a guy.  KC will be smart and use his talents in the best way.  He is a top two or three QB regardless of the stats.  All we have to do is watch him play to know this.  I believe that Allen, Mahomes, and Herbert will be the top three guys in the league for many years.  Burrow will be a close number four.  Games are much better to watch with great QB play.  The AFC will have more than their share of these great games.

  15. I'm not going to put much credence into the first depth chart.  Most teams give veterans preference and make the rookies earn it all the way through camp.  The second preseason game should give us a better picture of what we can expect in the regular season.  As we fret the future release of some good prospects, we all need to remember how hard it is to make the roster on a team that is really stacked with talent.  For too many years the Bills were on the other end of things and I remember watching the cuts from other teams in the hope that the Bills could snag some decent players to improve the roster.  I'll take the current situation anytime.
