Right. Kind of like Perry Fewell and Anthony Lynn weren't fired per se.

Fewell and Lynn weren’t given the HC position.  Another candidate did and he essentially fired them.  It’s basically the same thing as firing them.  That’s why they are on the list

Marvin Lewis, Ron Rivera, Doug Marrone, Dirk Koetter, and Todd Bowles, I believe,  are as good as gone.

I think Riverboat Ronnie gets 1 more year to turn things around

  2. I went back and listened again.  Below is the exact quote.  I also updated the original post.

Christie:  Bill Polian called and said ‘look you’re coming up.’ I said ‘well I kind of got this weird deal with Tampa and the whole Plan B thing,’and he just started laughing.  And I said ‘ok I guess that means I’m coming up there.’

    Patrick Moran:  laughter

Here’s the thing, I meet my parents up there and my agent from Toronto at the time, Gill Scott.    He picked me up in a limo and that.  And we get to the stadium thinking ‘oh yeah this is fantastic’ you know, I’m signing with the perfect team for me.  1,500 Scott Norwood fans were out there, protesting my arrival!

    Patrick Moran:  WOW!

Christie:  Which was a testament to not only Scott Norwood, but to the fans of Buffalo.

That Raiders game comes to mind as my main vivid norwood memory post xxv.  I remember flipping to the sabres game immediately after the game and that was when they had the near bench clear vs calgary.

And no.  I remember no protests against moving on to christie.  In fact, i used to listen to talk radio daily and dont remember this being a thing at all.

I don’t know why he would say that.  I also don’t remember any backlash.  Seemed like Christie was a welcomed addition in 1992.

  3. I am listening to an interesting interview with Steve Christie on Pat Moran’s podcast.  He talks about coming to Buffalo in 1992, and mentions that when he arrived in town to sign the deal there were 1,500 Bills fans protesting outside of One Bills Drive.  They were protesting in loyalty to Scott Norwood, who by all accounts was a terrible kicker at this point.

Christie also said he competed with Norwood in the 1992 training camp (which I don’t remember).  He said many well-known Bills players gave him the cold shoulder because they were friends of Scott.

Ironically after the Bills cut Scott, he wouldn’t get picked up by any other NFL team after the Super Bowl in early 1992.  As I said, he was a very unreliable kicker at this point his career.

My question to any old-time Bills fans - do you remember this happening?  I do remember the Christie signing and knew he was the kicker from TB, but I don’t recall any outrage over his signing.  Nor do I recall disappointment when Norwood was cut.  I feel most people were pleased with the move.

Yeah I motion we shorten this list.

Not shortening the list.  It’s all about which coaches will not return to their teams in 2019.

Also if an an interim coach takes over and isn’t given the HC coach job, they basically have been relieved of their duties.  It’s a nicer way of saying they were fired

Bowles, Marrone, and Koetter will fired

Williams and Philbin wiil not be retained

Lewis will be transitioned into a front office position

    So basically 6 fired coaches?

Curious...why?  He just failed with Cousins, a guy who has been productive QB in the NFL and he had a loaded stable of offensive weapons in Diggs, Thielen, Rudolph and solid RB's.

So why is this guy a guru we need to get in?

What has Dave Culley ever done?  Outside of coaches WR’s?

  6. I was reading an interesting list of coaches who might be on the hot seat in the NFL.  So I wanted to see what this group though.

The poll lists some of the coaches who I feel may be less than very secure for next season.  Of course, some are long shots but I wanted to list them just in case.

Select any of the coaches that you think will be fired or relieved from their duties, either before or after Week 17.

  7. Cleveland fans are pumped and I would be too.

I think the other 4 QB’s have shown enough for each fan base to feel optimistic.

Rosen, Allen, and Darnold, are all on very poor offenses with limited talent around them.  It’s hard to get an evaluation after year 1, but I think they’ve done well so far.

Jackson has a little bit offense and better talent around him.  While he didn’t put up huge passing numbers, I think he did decent enough.  I would agree that running him 26 times is not sustainable and like Allen, he will need to show that he can beat teams with his arm to be a great QB.

I think perhaps, the most encouraging out of the 4 is Allen.  Not because he looked the best, but because already we are seeing him elevate the bad talent around him.  We’ve also seen occasional flashes.

Funny but for a “parody of a QB” (by Football Outsiders) he’s really not doing too bad and doing much better than fan boys turned self-appointed “Draft scouts” like Johnny Ledyard and Joey Marino predicted.  Man F those guys

I spelled his name wrong I think, but this guy has fully morphed into Sully.  Everything negative, pretends like he speaks for all the fans in his articles, acts like this was supposed to be a winning season, you name it, he will criticize it and tell you how bad it is.

His radio spots are unlistenable, honestly this dude is worse than Schopp if that's possible.

So for the 3% of you that miss doom and gloom Sully, there's a new sheriff in town.

I don’t think Sal is quite as bad as Sully.  He’s pretty much fair and like a lot of us, he loses patience with the constant losing over the past 2 decades.  It really can’t be fun following a team that perpetually went 7-9 for 20 years.

One thing about Sal, some of his take are not very good.  He is critical but then he’ll defend someone who isn’t performing well.  Case and point, he get Rex Ryan should have been given another year.

Maybe look at him for Assistant GM or Pro Personnel Director.    He did complie some good talent.  Their QB got hurt and that put them back for a year.  I don't understand why they dismantled everything?

He could take the place of Brian Gaine who did some good work in that spot.

Big Reg honestly got screwed when they hired Gruden.  He probably should have asked Oakland to fire him because he essentially was neutered

It already was a need for next year. Shady and that 9 mil cap hit will be gone resulting in 2.5 mil dead cap and 6.5 cap savings.

Exactly. Going into this year with that o line, no wrs, a rookie QB, this is pretty much what I expected. Paying McCoy  9 mil,  highest of any rb in the league, was completely pointless this year but they probably couldn t have traded that contract if they had wanted to.

All reports say otherwise.  They certainly could have traded Shady, but they didn’t get the return they were looking for.

my guess is that teams offered a 6th round pick and the Bills probably wanted a 4th

  11. Fantastic stuff from Timothy G. Graham

    on Josh Allen:

“Maybe Allen is trying to do too much because Buffalo’s offense has little else. His rushing and passing yardage accounted for 83 percent of Buffalo’s total offense. Last week at Miami, he represented 88 percent. A week before that against Jacksonville, 79 percent.”

Four assistant coaches immediately after the season ends?

    1.  Juan Castillo OL Coach.     He actually got moved to the Defensive side of the ball after 15 years coaching the Eagles OL.  Our OL has gone down hill, even with the lack of talent, since he got here.  How can he OK bringing in Bodine, who was ranked 30th in starting NFL centers at Cincinnati last season, and let rookie Adam Redmond slip away to Dallas??

2.David Culley  QB Coach.     He's been an NFL Assistant Coach since 1994 and never, ever coached Quarterbacks!  Always WR's - -crazy with a rookie QB trying to learn the NFL game.

    3. Dan Crossman  ST.       He's been here way to long!  He's a former Carolina Panther guy and I guess it was safe to keep him around.

    4. TerryRobiske WR.     Over 37 years as a coach in the NFL the Bills are his 7th team.  I am guessing the speed of the players and the game itself has changed a lot over those years.  Didn't he play against the Bills back in the day??

    I hope changes are made.

Listen to McDermott’s postgame comments. There are two areas he is VERY displeased with and has publicly out:

    1. Special Teams

    2. Offensive Line (specifically the run game)

I think that Crossman is basically a forgone conclusion.  He will be dismissed.  I also believe there’s a good chance Castillo gets the boot too.

As for Culley and Robiske, I don’t see any moves.   Most people would agree that Allen has had a better rookie year than we expected.  Why do you get rid of the QB coach?  I can see the Bills brining in another Q/C Assistant to help him at QB.

No idea how you can evaluate Robiske, but take a look at young talent like Foster and McKenzie along with the (occasional) improvement of Zay Jones.  TR doesn’t deserve to be fired.
