At the least, I think we can agree that Daboll is under the microscope right now, as well he should be.  McD's second OC in four years.

If it gets to the point that a vet FA QB is brought in to compete with Josh in two or whatever years, McD and Beane are in trouble, as well.  Trading up for a QB is not a decision that can be hid, or trading up for a RT for that matter.  There are things they have done right, but also enough they have done wrong.

In general terms, you might be correct.  Missing on a highly drafted QB is enough to get a coach or GM fired.  But you have to consider the context in Buffalo.

    - McDermott changed the culture at OBD

    - Beane has built a successful competitive roster

    - The Bills made the playoffs 2 out of their first 3 years after going decades without

    - The Bills org is starting to develop a good reputation

    - the approval of the fan base/players

    - The Pegula’s history of failed coaches/leaders and their desire to keep one of the few successful hires in place.

McDermott and Beane are a LOT safer than most coach/GM combos would be in this situation.  I have no doubt that they can survive if Allen does not develop the way they had planned.

There’s no doubt they treat Allen like Chicago is treating Trubisky after year 3.

To be fair, the thread title was “Comedy Gold!”

It’s as if people now are raised with the principle “if you don’t have anything nice to say, make sure you really lay it on, just make them feel absolutely worthless. Make everybody a giant miserable turd like yourself”

We just said it wasn’t funny.  I don’t think that’s making anyone feel worthless

Most of it is on Daboll.  He is the OC and has to make the offense score points with what is given to him; Daboll has to find and utilize playmakers strengths.  Allen was a project with a high ceiling coming out of Wyoming.  Daboll knows this and has to help develop and facilitate Josh's strengths by designing and calling plays that utilize these strengths vs the opponent's weaknesses.  If Daboll can't do that, he should be gone.

I think Josh has a long leash and the organization will continue to be patient with him; he has to work out.  What's the alternative?  Tanking for the next crapshoot at QB in the draft?  Paying an obscene amount of money for a 'meh' or over-the-hill FA?  No to both as are probably worse options than changing coaches.  Josh is here to stay unless he pulls a Manziel, which I don't see.

I completely disagree.  I think they are both under the microscope.  Like I said, if the offense falters this years, Daboll probably goes.  He’s had 3 years to get something going.

Allen will obviously stay for year 4 and will get renewed for year 5.  But I have a hard time believing it’s automatic that he’ll get a second deal.

They will bring in a veteran to push Josh and yes, to possibly compete.

This is not the Buddy Nix or Doug Whaley led Bills who were made excuses and were afraid to do anything at QB.  This administration has never shy to make a hard decision, and they will move on from Allen if necessary

If unsure you may franchise, but why would a team tie up dollars and years if they're unsure of anything long term?

As for being under a microscope Daboll most definitely will be.  It's not just Allen who has all the weapons necessary.

IMO screw this morph from week to week crap.  Figure out what you do well and do it and do it and do it...  Adjust? Yes. Transform? No. Nothing more disheartening to a team than to know what's coming and still not stop it.  Be that.

Don't lose your mind mid game.

    I should clarify.... I meant he’ll be extended for a 5th season.  Not a new $30M L/t contract.

I don’t buy that it’s all on Daboll however.  Allen is still a question mark as well.  If the Bills have a bad year I can see Daboll getting fired but I think the Bills will start bringing in completion for Allen.  So he’s not entirely safe

I think they have some similarities, but Watt is a slightly more athletic guy. Better 40 and 3 cone and just a bit more speed in his pass rush game.

That’s what I was going to say.  Watt has much more burst off the edge.  I think there’s a lot of similarity with Aaron Schobel.  Hopefully his sacks come at bigger moments.

    Washington offensive lineman Trey Adams

Adams, who is 6-foot-8 and 314 pounds, might have been the best lineman in the Pac-12 two years ago but knee and back surgeries derailed his college career. A disastrous combine didn't help. He had a 5.6-second 40-yard dash, a 24.5-inch vertical leap and a 7-foot-8 broad jump, among the worst at the combine. Adams had several offers, before deciding on the Bills.

In terms a UDFA this looks like a great pickup

OP, while you’re not alone in changing your screen name, the overwhelming number of folks with different names from their original are due to being booted out of here, right @Phil The Thrill?..

If you want to keep your posting history, PM me. May I suggest waiting on our inevitable downtown dome megaplex? At least then, the jist would remain..

Is this supposed to be an insult...or a threat?

Solid B.  Diggs and Moss provide more weapons for Allen and Epenesa adds much needed youth to the DE spot

Diggs - Unlike some that don't include veterans that are traded for picks I will.  Diggs is as good as any first round WR prospect, has a proven track record, and has a reasonable contract.  A+

Epenesa - solid DE that brings youth, size, and strength.  Doubt he gets more than 5 sacks a year but he should not be a liability in the run game and has a year to learn from Addison. B+

Moss - good tough RB that fills a need. B

Davis - decent size and has a chance to develop.  I suspect he will be a healthy scratch most of the year as he won't play much STs and is not the gadget type 4th WR that Daboll likes.  Replaces Duke. B-

Fromm - I wanted another QB but would rather have had Eason.  I think his upside may be a little more than Barkley but his downside might be as bad as Peterman.  He has a JV arm but has played against great competition for years.   He will easily make the team and they will carry 3 QBs this year.  B grade getting him in the 5th.

Bass - camp competition and good use of a late round pick when they had little other roster spots open. B

Hodgins - slow off the LOS with little separation.  Great hands and height but not athletic.  Unlikely he makes the roster unless the keep 7 WR.  If he has a decent camp, maybe a PS guy

Jackson - little to no chance to make the roster.  Pick would have been better used on a P or an OT or used earlier in the day to move up a few spots.  Good chance he makes the expanded PS. D

Meh.... this thread should have been a poll.

    Overall I like this draft

    Espensa - B+
    Moss - A-

    Davis - B

    Fromm - B+
    Bass - D

    Hodgkins - C+
    Jackson - C

    1) I am completely thrilled by the Fromm pick. Does he have Josh Allen talent? Of course not, but he was a complete steal!!! What a wonderful pick!!! Fromm is very smart and he is a leader. Those who pay any attention to my posts know that I am an Alabama Fan, and have been one my whole life. I'm saying point blank that I would rather have Fromm than Hurts on the Bills. Does this make me "right?" No. Call it an educated guess.

    2) I have said before that I haven't seen enough Diggs to properly evaluate the trade. I also said that I was skeptical, and for good reason. Well, I am now just about OK with it. The Bills finally have a good OL, a young budding star QB, and what I think will be a fine backup.

    3) It looks like they want to provide weapons to Josh, and prepare for him to get injured and have Fromm step in. What a great concept!!!! Chances are that a running QB like Josh WILL get hurt, no? They might actually be prepared for this now.

    4) We might even be stronger at RB!

    5) Don't you love the fact that Josh and Fromm are different style QBs? I mean really, how great is that? Opposing coaches will have to change their game plans if we are forced to switch.

    6) Congrats Bills Fans. Our organization finally appears to be making sense.

    7) GO BILLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why skeptical over the Diggs trade?  If anything, the draft reinforced that it probably was a good move.

Ha ha, keep flipping through. My main issue is the people that will be screaming for him. He’s strictly a backup. If everyone can agree with that we are cool. I was preparing for the “Brady was a 6th rounder” and “he’s better than Josh.” They’ve both come already. He’s not. He has a chance to be a decent backup. That was a need. It was good value for that.

Oh yeah that’s a real long shot to start.

I think that this was clearly a luxury pick and that Beane is looking to flip him for a draft pick in a season or two.  If you have a good young backup QB, teams are always willing to trade

Watch them play and don’t read stats. Allen is 2,000,000,000,000,000x better than Fromm. He has a rag arm. If you were a fan of what Peterman brought you’ll love Fromm!!

But is this even a comparison?  It seems to me that From was drafted as a #3 developmental backup.  Not a challenge to start at QB

I do think that Fromm is better and more established QB than Peterman too.

No the Pegulas will not for Beane will not be stupid enough to call one of their daughter a ***** like Polian did and this is something he admitted he did.   A daughter who worked in scouting department and actually found some players.

I am sure if you were a boss and someone called your daughter a ***** you would have said "You are right. If I am lucky maybe I can get lucky with her."

Terry is not petty like Ralph.  He won’t make such a rash decision because he knows it’s bad for business.

I doubt pegula will let him walk like Ralph allowed Polian to walk. Ralph thought Buffalo could recruit on their winning ways while Pegula knows he needs a good GM to get it done.

This is 100% true.  Honestly, Beane and McDermott have the been the only the good hires the Pegula’s have made.  You can question whether they lucked into them.  Between all of the executives that they fired and all of the failed GM/Coach combos of the Sabres, they know they need to keep them in Buffalo.

They have to want to stay - but I think they do

Wish I could say he wont get that much money, but he isn't far off from the player Tunsil is.   If Tunsil got 22 million a year, Dawkins could easily get 21.5

No clue why the Texans thought they needed to add 5.5 million to the biggest LT contract already in the NFL.   Really screwed a lot of other teams by setting the market that high.

Is Tunsel really that much better than Dawkins?  If he is it’s marginal.  I think Dion gets the same money whether It’s the Bills or another team
