  1. Exactly!

I was about to write about the medias love affair with Tim Tebow as a pointer/example to what is wrong with the media.

George Carlin in a radio interview pointed out that the human society is doomed...based on todays society of viewing life of not being fair.

Example: the media toys with us to view it as NOT FAIR that Tebow is NOT starting...and the truth is Tebow is a backup QB and is not good

After every tackle (I may be exaggerating a bit) during the Sugar Bowl last night they kept cutting to Tebow to show his reaction. I was sick of it after the 3rd time. Yet there's a director in a truck yelling "Cut to Tebow!" after every play, and some unlucky camera schmuck who had to spend the entire game with his lens trained on Tebow.

  2. After Whisenhunt's interview with the Bills yesterday, WFAN's '20/20 Sports' update said that "Ken Whisenhunt is reportedly close to being named the next head coach of the Buffalo Bills."

This is where this all becomes such a joke. One person tweets something. 10 people report that "reports say" based on that tweet and now we're up to 11 people are reporting it and it seems more credible.

  3. I guess I'm just reading it differently. To me, he's reporting what a source told him. Is he using a source as a guise for his own speculation? That seems far-fetched, but I suppose it's possible. I don't see the harm in tweeting something like that, especially when you have so many followers who are thirsty for every last bit of information he has.

In the end it's up to the reader to decide if what these guys tweet/write is valuable. I see some value in these kinds of things, others don't.

I think that's the point... if I can't count on an Adam Shefter source, who is 95% certain to even be in the ballpark (Reid never even interviewed with the Cards) than how can I trust any of his speculation. Its the throw it all and then take credit for the stories that stick approach.

  4. I must have missed this. Of course we've all seen plenty of stories and tweets, but I don't remember any of them speculating as strongly as you say they did. I remember many saw Reid as "a good fit," etc., in Arizona, but "done deal"? Never saw that. I probably missed it.

Shefter is a very respected reporter, and has been since he was in Denver. Try not to hate on anybody simply because they work for Big Evil ESPN or another major site/network.

That being said, are there sports reporters who give journalists a bad name? Of course. Same goes with any profession.

    Just an example....

    Adam Schefter@AdamSchefter

One league source said he was "95 percent" certain former Eagles HC Andy Reid will wind up coaching the Cardinals.

Reading this, people assume someone like Schefters sources are solid. They obviously are not considering Reid never even made it to Arizona for an interview.

  5. No. This idea is all wrong. Being a 'columnist' doesn't give you a free pass on the facts or doing actual reporting.

Sports writing has always been like this...the internet has just opened up access and illuminated some weak writers who used having the podium to maintain positions.

I don't think Sullivan is ever free and easy with the facts. He gets grief from people who think he should keep his opinion under wraps and report the facts. That is just not his job.

On your second point. These aren't (by reputation) weak writers. These are some of the biggest names in the business posting rumors as a fact.

  6. The parenting commercial is driving me nuts.

I Knew that, yeah, me too.

I actually just want to say, stupid commercials be damned. I always listen to WGR on the TuneIn App for one main reason- I can pause, rewind and fast forward. I love having someone talk to me and I don't have to get frustrated that I'm missing a great interview. I can pause and then listen in a few minutes.

  7. Its absolutely amazing that these "respected" NFL writers are wrong as often as they are and still deemed "respected".

The age of twitter has turned these guys from journalists into rumor mongers trying to scoop the other writers by throwing every guess they have at the wall (twitter wall) as a guarantee or near guarantee.

Jason La Canfora, and Adam Shefter really take the cake.

I'll give ONE example and you guys can fill in some others.

The big report 2 days ago was Reid to the Cards- Done Deal! Yesterday- Talking to Chiefs first, Today- Going to Chiefs, Count on it!

I have ABSOLUTELY NO faith in reports that Wisenhut is the Bills first choice and is the "leading candidate". Its just another guess so that someone can say "I said it first".

I want to separate John Warrow and Tim Graham from this conversation. They have avoided making ridiculous guesses have only reported what they know to be true. I'm glad to see they still take their roles seriously.

  8. 3 cars in the family

My daily driver is a 2011 Jaguar XF- This car is without a doubt the best car I have ever driven.

My wife's car is a 2004 Subaru Outback, 5-speed manual. My wife loves it in the snow.

Our other car is a toy; a 1969 Red Corvette Convertible. 4- speed manual 350cc/350hp

    I love to drive.

  9. When Brady did it that's smart cuz he audible to it because their was no DT and the LBs where split wide with safety deep leaving middle of the field open he got like 8 yards I think.. When Fitz did it THAT WAS THE ORIGINAL PLAY and got 2 yards... I get what your saying I do and I understand it but theres two different reasons that the QB sneak was ran..

I have to admit, I did not see the Fitz play.

  10. Spiller said the same thing in his post game press conference. After the back to back 14 yard runs he came out because he was winded. Then after a couple of plays he told them he was ready to go back in and they never put him in.

I don't think CJ or Fred for that matter were used properly Sunday. He should be getting the ball a lot more. We should stick with the run even if it's not working early in a tight game because come the 4th quarter if you stick with it someone will pop a big one.

But really this winded thing has taken on a life of his own. They both said it. CJ took himself out because he was winded.

Perhaps the question should be asked why he felt he needed to come out. Especially for a guy that wants to be "THE GUY".

    Wrong.

In his interview he said he came out after the screen catch he had and asked back in after one play. He never asked to come out the rest of the game.

    http://blogs.buffalonews.com/press-coverage/2012/12/cj-spiller-doesnt-understand-chan-gaileys-winded-comments.html

He also explains (CJ) that every player gets winded and subs out. Read the story.

  11. Thanks, bbb. I appreciate it.

Totally valid. But I didn't appreciate the assumption about being desperate or boring. And you're right - they're not required to take calls. And I'm not required to listen, and I don't anymore. Listeners are technically customers in an indirect way.

And by the way. I respect the way you took the time to voice your opinion in a rather mature email to them.

I personally find their show VERY entertaining. I often find myself laughing out loud. Perhaps it would be a different show if we actually had a winning team in this city.

  12. Not to mention that Russ has nothing to do with Salvatore's anymore and created Russell's Steaks and the Hotel out of spite for the current Salvatore's owners (which I'm pretty sure is his ex-Wife that owns it, not his son). My good friend (Russ's grandson) runs Russell's, it's awesome. He also owns the new place YOLO down the street a bit with his brother, it's also a very nice Martini bar type place.

    From Salvatore's website...

Joe Salvatore purchased the family business from his father in 2003, and now along with his wife Paula and their three children, Josette, Russell and Nicholas they handle the day to day operations.

Regardless, I have not been to Salvatore's since ownership changed and we are now regulars at Russell's
