Makes you wonder if Beane feels this Free Agent group is weaker compared to prior years.

If the Bills can hit in the draft that is heavy with defensive players, it will significantly help them both in the short term and long term. What we can ill afford is to whiff on our early draft picks!

Beane is doing what he's always doing which is working on the guys he's actually working on while his ship doesn't leak, so the only way we'd hear about it is if it came from the other side.

So there you go, Rousseau's contract officially hurt us from getting Metcalf. Rousseau + Bernard = $32.5M AAV. Metcalf got $30M AAV. These extensions don't happen in a vacuum. They have a measurable impact on our ability to add game changers.

Yeah I wouldn't be very surprised if Groot's new contract doesn't actually lower his cap hit this year.

No, he's a great player. He is not in the elite of the elite Jefferson/Chase/Brown tier. He is in the next tier down which features like 10 WRs that you can rank in whatever order you choose.

Yes these are highlights, but let's be honest you can count the number of active players capable of some of these plays on one hand. Allen has never had a talent like this on the team. Diggs was of course elite in his prime but very different style. To me this is the prototypical WR to mesh with Allen.

The WR analog to Rousseau would be someone like Jakobi Meyers. A nice player that you like to have on your team but you don't want him being your best player at that position and you don't want to pay him like a top 10 player.

FWIW I agree that $30M is an overpay for Metcalf. But so what? 90% of contract extension are overpays. That's just the price of doing business. Why are Bills fans so ready to turn their nose up at overpaying elite players while praising overpaying players like Rousseau and Bernard?

Also important to remember who has DK really had throwing him the ball, pre collapse Russel Wilson?

Here's the thing.  I totally get why Garrett would sign this deal.  It's huge money....generational wealth.  And what does he have to sacrifice to get it?  Knowing he will never win a Super Bowl in his career.  Heck.....he probably won't see the Playoffs for the rest of his career.  But, $120+ million guaranteed or a shot at a ring?  That's his choice and we could all dream of being in a position to make that decision for ourselves.  The thing is, he was going to get paid by the team that traded for him anyway.  Maybe not quite this contract, but close enough.  But, whatever.....I get why he would sign that deal.

On the other hand, what are the Browns doing as an organization?  They are in serious trouble and I am not sure I see a way out of it for them for at least another 5+ years.  They sign these ridiculous deals with all guaranteed money and they are absolutely stuck.  They continue to take the worst contract in NFL history and make it worse by kicking more money down the road only to sign more guys to huge contracts that, in the end, won't mean a thing because they are absolutely nowhere at the most important position in sports, the QB.  They should have absolutely be champing at the bit to get a haul for Garrett, clear out some real cap space, and get some futures that will help them move around in the draft this year and next year to find their QB of the future and get younger and some more skilled guys to be ready for when that rookie comes in to try and set him up for success.  Instead, they basically tie their own arms behind their backs.  Just a moronic organization that has no clue what they are doing and they are just out of touch with reality.

I mean I kind of get that, get as much as you can while you can, but at the same time it's not like he would have been way under this if he'd gone somewhere else, you know just with the chance to actually compete for something.

It’s not so much a “bargain” as the “reason” that they did it. Once they knew Garrett and Hendrickson were dead, they shifted to Rousseau and cheaper options.

They could have both players it's definitely possible, Groot got extended because he's our best DE on the team right now and only 24, at that price it was a great deal.

Yea I thought Garrett genuinely wanted out. Never believed it on Crosby and sceptical on DK but I actually thought Garrett was sick of losing. Seems not.

Yeah honestly a bit disappointing whether he would have ended up here or not unless he just couldn't get out this is pretty much the opposite of trying to win while still in your prime. I mean sure things can change quickly in the NFL but with the contractual anchors the Browns have and the complete lack of a QB, it's hard to see that team doing much of anything in the near future.

Which hurts the players more than anyone.

I mean yes and no, the players can still go through the routes of practice squads CFL arena teams and just moving on. But the people that may have a major investment in the league stand to take a huge loss.

Agree with their grievances or not this is the only power they really have to negotiate.

    Interesting:

I doubt this goes anywhere but interesting on a couple of fronts. Clearly the Steelers are looking for a “win now” QB. Rodgers feels like a decent option. Maybe Darnold?  Maybe Cousins (despite his horrible year)? Maybe someone like Kyler or Geno? Who knows but it sounds like they are thinking outside the box.

Secondly, the Jags must be horrible to deal with 🤣🤣. I’m pretty confident that Pittsburgh didn’t want this out there.

from the horses mouth....Trevor said it himself?

Great news.  No reason to even waste a late round draft pick on OL.  We are good to go!

I mean you always keep working on the O-line, maybe it should even include the D-Line?, that position group just seems like one you always have to keep working at or you'll find yourself in a serious whole fast.

Everyone wants a trade chip. Here you go.

This honestly does make perfect sense, either you make the deal and extend him, or you trade him when he's at his highest value because you're comfortable with the guy behind him and who you can get in the draft.

Just playing out his contract is kind of an all in on this next year kind of decision, the other two put you in a better position going forward.

  11. It's weird for this guy being such an incredible difference maker Mahomes was throwing a whole lot of picks and not a lot of TDs when the game was actually on the line. I mean Mahomes is really good and Andy Reid can scheme guys open like nobodies business, so did Worthy get lost on his way to the stadium or something?

But we don’t have the personnel DB’s to run this, I’m expecting the Bills get a quality CB in FA and a draft choice this off season.   And I do think they are going to have a run at it for Garrett.   This should be a very attractive place for him to come and play.

Maybe they could come up with a cool nickname for Elam so he won't keep getting called for PI?
