  1. I found this quote by McDermott interesting when talking about Babich:

“Good coach. He’s developed players and I think when you evaluate a coach it’s ‘are you taking what you have and making it better.’ And I think it doesn’t need to get any more complex than that, and Bobby’s done that.”

So did Washington take what he was handed and make it better? I would say absolutely not. To me this is not a loss but has the potential to be a chance to add something new.

  2. Desai was scapegoated in Philly, but doesn’t have an extensive body of work. He has however worked under some interesting guys including John Fox, Vic Fangio, Mike Pettine etc. The one thing I will say is he is an interesting guy you can freely add to the staff if he doesn’t become the DC. Others have mentioned, what is most significant here is that they are doing DC interviews. I hope that means they promote Babich.

Why do think they move on from Douglas ? They just traded a 3rd for him mid season and he was their best CB after he got here … he was disappointing in the playoff loss but he was playing through injury …

Extend him and save $6m on his cap hit …it’s really a no brainer for Beane provided Douglas agrees

I just don’t think they will keep both. If Tre’s rehab is going well, I think the would move on from Douglas, maybe a trade, but he has no dead money on his deal. It’s like 9 million in savings. I think he was a rental to try to get to the super bowl this year.

They should extend him 100%. I loved the trade and the fit, I just would be shocked if they keep both guys. That is a lot of money poured into a position where they still have a competent starter in Benford.

It would be awesome to see White-Douglas on the field together.

The answer is simple. Move on from one CB and use that money this year and next year to address the multitude of positions where we're not only stacked - we need starters. We can move on from one CB and still be in very good shape there.

Yep this is the most likely outcome. Either Tre or Douglas are gone imo and they will reallocate that money.

You might like these guys … but I will be gobsmacked if they are paying a safety $10m plus a year  this particular offseason….

Probably need to get by for 1  year with a combination of Poyer, Day 2 Draft pick, Rapp similar cheap free agent, Hamlin unless a  Day 3 pick beats him out  …

Exactly. We won't be getting anyone in FA with that kind of cap hit. It will be a Taylor Rapp type (maybe even Rapp himself) and/or a 2nd-3rd Round Pick.

Anyone that will cost anything more than 5 is a non starter given our cap situation and the amount of holes we need to fill.

While I mostly agree with you guys, I just don’t see a world where McDermott is gonna put a rookie at that position. I know he’s been a bit better at playing the young guys lately, but safety is whole another ball game in this defense. I like Rapp and he did some good things so that is definitely a possibility and I wouldn’t hate it.

Throw the bank at dugger. pretty sure beane wanted him in the 2020 draft... remember pats had to take him at 37... David Cole, one of Dugger's collegiate coaches, told Howe that someone with the Bills had said that Buffalo would "definitely" pick Dugger if he was available at 54th overall.

My only couple of things with Dugger, kind of studying him a bit is that he is older, he turns 28 this March. Also, he really has not been used the way the Bills used Hyde. Not really a true safety, perhaps he can be projected to that the same way Hyde was coming over from GB where he was mostly a nickel.

That’s why I like Xavier McKinney, he’s a true FS who plays a ton of single high and 2 high, he’s also 3 years younger.

I agree here. I give all the success in SF to Kyle Shanahan, but some of that magic certainly rubbed off on Mike McDaniel and Bobby Slowik as play designers and play callers. They learned from the best, just like Lafluer.

Lafleur deserves all the credit but doesn’t mean his passing game coordinator isn’t sponging off that success. Guy could be a diamond in the rough. He’s proven to get the most out of every position he’s had thus far and GBs passing attack for how young they were was very impressive. Just watch any highlight reel of the big plays GB gets. Those WRs get huge separation

I hear you guys, I’m all for opportunity, but its gonna have be enough magic to wash away the festering spreading cancerous sore left by Marrone and Hackett.

Just want to address this, yes screens are great CAN WE RUN A SLIP SCREEN GO TO A BACK THOUGH?! I get bubbles to get Shakir or Diggs in space but like how many times would a RB slip screen or a TE screen been effective against a blitz?

One of the issues with slip screens to backs is Josh Allen, and not in a negative way. A lot of times there is a spy on Josh, so some guy just hanging around the line of scrimmage waiting and spying. That takes away the slip-screen game as well, even in blitzing scenarios. Just my 2 cents on it.

Explain Nate Hackett? Or Pat Shurmur having two chances to be a head coach? Or Rob Ryan? Or Andy Reid’s ex heroin son being a d line coach? Or garbage Brian Schottmeir? Or a million other examples.

im not saying it’s all racism but it isn’t just the best guys getting the job. There is a guy in high school or college who is a million times better than Hackett but will never get a chance because is dad wasn’t a nfl coach or he’s not friends with the right people.

This is truth. Getting a foot in the door in the NFL is completely about who you know. That is how most guys who are not ex pros get a shot.

I actually agree about Kingsbury.  He seems like he could be a great coach in a solid structure/tight ship like McDermott seems to run.

Running the whole operation or being in charge doesn't seem like it's his strength.  His strength seems to be in design and creativity.

When I say tight ship, not meaning McDermott will interject into this offense.  I think McDermott would allow Kingsbury to do what he needs to do.

Tight ship as in the operations and processes inside the team, not all X's and O's.

I also think personality wise, Kingsbury and Allen would get along well.

I 100% agree. McDermott excels at some of the stuff that Kliff seems to lack. This situation allows Kliff to just deal with the offense and let McDermott continue to handle all the big stuff.

Instead of JUST landing with Brady, why not hire a team of offensive experts? Like an offensive board of directors for Brady to report to.

So they have Rob Boras as TE coach who has been around a while and spent some time as an interim head coach for the Rams. Mike Shula is on staff who is a former OC, QB coach, and head coach in college as a consultant. They also have Adam Henry, who I am not sure did a very good job, but he has been around while and got his start under Lane Kiffin with the Raiders. Plus Aaron Kromer has been an OC and run game coordinator and interim head coach in the league before in multiple schemes. So experience on the offensive staff isn't the issue imo. Hopefully whoever they hire finds guys who will help implement their vision for the offense.
