It seems like everyone is focused on a handful of bad plays.  He didn't throw any picks, and made big plays all day.

I have no worries about him or his future. He'll learn & get better.

I agree. Kelly took years to get us not only to the playoffs but also to the Super Bowl! It might not be as fast as we want but I think he will get us there and more than once! Because I think with this coach and GM he will have a good team around him!

  2. I run a business that’s basically 365/24/7. But, we will knock off on Saturday around lunchtime and settle in later to watch the game. My sons are coming over around 3 and most of the family will be here so I’m really looking forward to the game!!!  I live a couple hours out of Buffalo and a lot of people are excited for the Bills here!! It’s been a long time coming!!

  3. Nice breakdown. 2 things I get from it:

    1. Daboll is better than many on this board believe. He is directly responsible for plays called.
    2. Glad Gilmore has lousy hands or he would have about twice as many picks, but I still say he is no Revis. He gets help often!
    3. I know I said 2 observations but goona add another! Josh gets it as well and can see the scheme as it plays out during the play! He’s our guy!!

Yeah, this is one of the dumbest takes yet.  Congrats

Jesus dude, they blitzed 13 times and we're beat 13 times.  Stop making ***** up and do some research

No I didn’t actually count the number of times that they brought more than 4 down linemen but I definitely could see the difference in aggressiveness on defense. The time of possession was heavily in New England’s favor so that could explain why as far as just being gassed in the 4th quarter? But it was nothing like the past 3 or 4 games.

  5. I not saying that this is all of the reason for the poor tackling but they were just not aggressive as a whole on defense!! Even the scheme! They rarely blitzed extra defenders and seem to feel that they could cover the Pats enough to keep Brady from completions. I think it set the tone for the way that they played! We are not the biggest defense so you better come and play an attacking style or you are going to get run thru or over!!

I've been saying for the last 2 years play press cover 0 and blitz Brady with 5,6 or even 7 guys. He rarely throws deep anymore. Our defensive gameplan Saturday was just plain stupid. Then add the worst tackling all season and there was no way we were ever winning that game. The offense as it has all year,  disappointed. We take a 17-13 lead into the 4th qtr, only to crawl in "conservative" fetal position and allow Brady multiple opportunities to take back the lead. We still need to draft and sign FA help. Josh still has no true #1 wr, rb or te. The oline can still be improved. An 11 win season would be amazing but there's still so much room for improvement.

Pressuring Brady is not easy but definitely doable. He can throw deep but not with any velocity. And even though he was never mobile he could move well in the pocket. Even that has diminished some!  With fewer reliable targets such as Edelman and no Gronkowski I too don’t understand the defensive scheme used on Saturday!? The offense is no where near the defense in the amount of time they have worked together! But this certainly leads to optimism as far as where this team can go in the future! Shaw is right they are going to win a lot of games in the future!!

  7. Even with this disappointing loss it seems that we definitely got peoples’ attention. Many, including even Jerry Sullivan feel we are a force to be reckoned with! Capable of beating the Pats in the near future. Probably next season is what many are looking for. Honestly I thought that a win was the only way to accomplish that!! But yesterday’s near victory has garnered a lot of attention!

  8. I’m not sold on Lawson. Not that he can’t play. Just whether or not he is a process guy this year because it’s his contract year!! I’ll leave it to McDermott!! Murphy, Hughes and Alexander need replacing IMO! Alexander breaks my heart because he’s my kind of player but I remember thinking that his level of play has suffered recently or he is injured?! He’s not making many plays of late. Hughes could be used in situational packages for another year? We need fresh blood but guys who don’t wait until their 5th year to show it!!

And that goes for Phillips too!!

Ya gotta love Ed Oliver and I think in time he would be very good at DE for a handful of plays!! He has the skillset for it!!

  9. Your point about coaching excellence is accurate. One of my observations was that for some reason we rarely blitzed with more than the 4 lineman. Something we have done since at least the Cowboy game. Sure it’s Tom Brady! But this defense, especially the backside , is good enough to send extra defenders and force Brady’s throw! They ran the ball effectively but having extra defenders on the LOS helps to discourage that as well! What are your thoughts on this?? Why did we seem to abandon what has been so effective defensively?

This is why handsy Gilmore doesn’t get flagged anymore ?

Only in part. Yes Gilmore is a very good corner especially when he can be physical. But the Pats players get away with more crap than any other team. Maybe because they are the champs and have been a dynasty. Saw it in the NBA years ago with certain teams or more like certain players!

Although I think that the right call was made on that interference call on Edelman!! They didn’t get away with it THIS TIME!!

The expectations should be high.  This team competes with everyone.

My expectations for the offense were pretty much what we saw! However my expectations for this defense was much higher than what was displayed! I expected a hard fought close victory with an impressive defensive showing! Like the last few weeks! I have no idea why they played so tentative!??

There is no way of knowing anything for sure. My problem was the two major changes for this team that made them inarguably better in the last 5-6 games they abandoned. They did not hurry up, or spread the defense like they did when the offense was rolling more. They did not crowd the box and Blitz like clearly helped in the last several games of getting more pressure and sacks. They went back to their less aggressive team strategy for this game, and it cost them imo.

Yep for sure! They played at times not to lose! For me it was punting on 4th and inches that told the story. Yes given field position it was a logical step but sometimes you have to set the attitude and take a chance. Like the Eagles did in their Super Bowl victory over the Pats! Play fearless and believe that you can gain at least half a yard whenever you need it!!!

Same on defense. Sure Brady is tough to blitz because he has seen it all, but it has been a problem this year for their o-line!! But we played scared! Afraid to blitz and force tempo. Too be aggressive instead of reactionary! If you just try to just react to that offense, they will kill you!! Just watch the Raven game against the Pats earlier this year! They went after Brady and covered on the back side. We have the secondary that can do it! Poor defensive game plan yesterday!

"They attack whatever the opponent that week's particular weakness is ..."

And this is how Belicheck earned his genius status.  Great job by McDermott and yes ... Daboll.

So many people, including me, wanted so badly for the Bills to have an identity.  Screw that.  What they're doing is smarter and far more effective.

Exactly! How many times in prior years have we watched Brady light up the league and then play us and they run all over us? BB recognized that a weakness we have had more years than not, has been against the run! Remember Dareus was supposed to be the big addition to finally stop that?! They can on any given week change their identity to fit their opponent. You can see this team slowly doing the same thing. This is kind of a candid interview for BB, not the usual vagueness and patronizing answers!!

A defensive TD could help immensely.

This is what I’m looking for tomorrow! This defense especially the line has improved remarkably since week 4. To back it up consider the increased sack numbers and the stifling run defense especially!! Consider that the later half of the season or last 4 games have been against top teams and the defense has only gotten better!! New England’s offense is doing anything but surging right now. Very uncharacteristic for them. When was the last time you saw that at the end of the regular season?? They are ripe!!!

  15. The main thing about a complex offensive scheme is can or will the entire offense learn it? Vets like Beasley and Brown need to know it. Especially to make it easier for young guys like Allen who has a host of other things to handle on any given play! Audibles, protections, down and distance situation..........etc! I think it speaks to how intelligent our Qb is considering the complexity of the offense! He’s play is improving steadily and the future looks bright!!
