  1. I have not been high on Allen, but he was solid in front of the entire NFL and fan base at the combine. I am not sure how smart he is, but he has a chance to do quite well. I still rank the QBs Darnold, Rosen, Allen, then little Mayfield. I think the NFL is producing QBs at a faster rate with the pass friendly league. If Allen has the right coaching staff he can be successful. If he had Mayfield's will to win I would take him #1. If Mayfield could shop in the adult section I would choose him #1.

I think teams are going to want next year's first over 22 this year.  They are going to bank on the Bills being worse next year.

This is exactly why I posted this. If we kept Glen past June 1st he would have fetched a 1st rounder to replace our pick. I am betting we have a top 12 next year along with everyone else. I would still do it because of the cash we have for FA next year. Is a #1 next year equal to a #2 this year?

    Right?

Oft injured slot receiver who looks a lot better with a HoF QB throwing him the ball.

Sounds right up the Pats alley for WRs.

Re-sign Welker? Nah let's just get amendola.

Re-sign Amendola? Nah let's get Jordy.

It's like plug-n-play with the Pats.

I can't argue with that. Deja vu!

Yeah...I'm gonna go ahead and assume they're not going to be screwed. At all. Even if Belichick and the entire front office spend the whole offseason flickin boogers.

    LOL! I hate them.

  4. Would you trade up to pick #3 and give up the following to keep pick #22?

    Picks #12, #53, #56 and #65 = #3 overall

We would still have #3, #22, #96, #121, #166 and #187, so basically no 2nd rounders. I am not sure Indy would do it, because I think they want that #22 (we still could trade down because that is a hot spot for trading back). We could grab a killer LB and still maybe land another starter in rounds 3-4.

  5. Would he would sign with us over the Patriots. Hard to say... He should start for us and get another 6 games before he holds a clip board. However, if Brady goes down, then he is on his way to the playoffs. Throw in another $500K to his wife, so she can sell Bills calendars!

I am interested in the Star 2018 salary to see what we have left to sign AJ and the next camp fodder.

This takes the Broncos out of this QB market.  Here is why.  Keenum is being brought in to keep the window they think they have open. (I'm not sure they really have any open window left, but whatever)  Keenum is going to cost WAY TOO MUCH to be a bridge...this is to be the starter for the next 2-3 years while they still have a good WR pairing, still have Von Miller, still have Harris...they aren't completely bereft of talent.  Paxton Lynch is now officially a bust, but he's still on his rookie deal, still a guy they drafted in round 1 and paid dearly for to move up...and Trevor Simien....Simien isn't very good, but he's experienced and also cheap.  They aren't going QB this year....they will stay put at 5 and get one of the top 3 Non QB players in this draft....again in line with trying to win while the window is open.  AND....the coaching staff are all basically working THIS SEASON to prove themselves....this is not a situation where they have a staff in place, ready to start the franchise rebuild with a new QB....this staff won't be coaching any QB they take in the draft now...they are all in with Keenum and winning to save their jobs.  Elway isn't going to ask for their input on wich QB fits their system etc.

I agree. They have a weak offensive line and defense is getting older. They may even trade down a few slots to grab that killer guard. They need youth. Keenum is not flashy but can take you to the playoffs with a running game. Guessing 22 million?

Hughes is a very good player, if we drafted Kalil Mack instead of Sammy like I wanted to Hughes would have 10 sacks a season easily. Last year Hughes had zero help on the D-Line and still got pressures. I want no part of trading a pass rusher like Hughes, he will be very good for 3 or 4 more seasons.

I love Hughes and I live in the Bay area. I thought Mack was the best player in the draft and I would trade 2 first round picks for him today.

Fact is we have no system yet.  McD simply blew it with his '17 system and who he hired to develop and implement it and his OC firing puts us at square 1.  McD and the gang also totally mismanaged the player development of Peterman so the O is actually below square 1.

Daboli is a reasonable hire but should not be mistaken for a slam dunk.  The system is run when you can/pass when you have to and most of all be productive with the players you got.

That was something I have been fearful of. We seem to have the defensive system down, but the offense is unknown and questionable.

Darnold averaged one pick per game in a high scoring offense. The majority of those picks happened early in the season, before he and his receivers settled in. More worrisome is his fumbling but he's the best prospect in years.

    very good to know!

    Rosen, Darnold and Mayfield.

The Erhardt-Perkins Offense is predicated on being smart, quick diagnosis, ball placement and presnap reads.

    Think NE offense

The backbone of the Erhardt-Perkins system is that plays — pass plays in particular — are not organized by a route tree or by calling a single receiver’s route, but by what coaches refer to as “concepts.” Each play has a name, and that name conjures up an image for both the quarterback and the other players on offense. And, most importantly, the concept can be called from almost any formation or set. Who does what changes, but the theory and tactics driving the play do not. “In essence, you’re running the same play,” said Perkins. “You’re just giving them some window-dressing to make it look different.”

The biggest advantage of the concept-based system is that it operates from the perspective of the most critical player on offense: the quarterback.

Super informative! thank you. It seems QB friendly and I can't wait to cheat and use a ton of pick plays like the Pat's.

  9. When picking a QB guys like Polian look at the following:

    Leadership

    Health

    Love of the game

    Student of the game

Can make all the throws in the route tree

    Floor versus ceiling

    Chemistry with Coach

I have my opinions from what the rumors are and everything I have read about his system, but... What I can't seem to find is in regard to Brian Daboll's offensive philosophy is which draft pick would be the best fit? I think it is Darnold or Rosen. If it is Allen, then we will spend on a free agent this week. If it is Mayfield, then we trade to slot #4.

The system looks like a run first philosophy with 5-15 yard throws using and an occasional bomb. Rosen is proven, Allen killed it at the combine and Darnold is pretty good. If Mayfield was 3 inches taller I would take him #1.

    Top 3

Darnold seems quiet for a leader and threw a lot of picks, but is an escape artist. Probably a lock to be in the league for a decade.

Rosen may be breakable and for such a smooth accurate passer it wobbles like a Manning. Best floor, but needs protection.

Josh Allen will take sometime to grow into a passer and may have accuracy issues, but has a huge ceiling along with the risk. This guy is huge and athletic.

    Next Best

Mayfield is the best leader and reeks of attitude for a smurf. His accuracy and arm is better than I thought. The dude just wins.

  10. As I predicted. The Bills would move Cordy Glen and the compensation would equal a late #1 to a #2 at best. The Bengal's valued him as a mid 2nd rounder and I am stoked! I also, said they would trade up and I expected it to be the 49ers, since they need a 2nd rounder. They need to still move up and I hope it is pick #2 or #3 overall, but now we have some cap to fill a few holes. Help me guess who they will court at 1 Bills Drive this week!

Note: I am afraid that we may trade next years #1 to conserve picks this year. We will have $$$$ next year, so I could live with it.

    Free QB agency: Sam Bradford?

    - Excellent character, he can play at a high level and looks great with a clipboard

    - Understands the system

    - Cheapest guy that doesn't suck

    Defensive Line: Kyle Williams?

    - Tough call, because the guys I like are pricey and I question their leadership

    - We need an edge rusher and DT in the draft

Line Backers: Preston Brown or Nigel Bradham or Jon Bostic?

    - We will need to draft either a speedy cover guy or a thumper

    - Sideline to sideline speed and at 6'4" Tremaine Edmunds, LB, Virginia Tech is awesome, but we will most likely settle for someone else

    Nickel Back: ?

    -  3-4 rounder?

    C/RG: ?

    - Draft

    - Groy is OK, but why didn't he play guard at all in 2017?

    - Norwell is a pipedream

    RT: ???

    - I am so tired of the losers at this postition

    - Draft

Deep threat at WR: Paul Richardson?

    - Draft (probably Courtland Sutton, WR, SMU or DJ Moore, WR, Maryland)

    - Note: I love Christian Kirk, WR, Texas A&M, but he isn't super fast

    TE: Nick O'Leary?

    - Draft; I love this guy... Mike Gesicki, TE, Penn State

Not sure about this rumor... http://www.newyorkupstate.com/buffalo-bills/index.ssf/2018/03/espn_names_buffalo_bills_as_team_that_might_target_ndamukong_suh_after_release.html

  11. Darnold, Rosen, Barkley and Chubb are probably all top 4 picks, so we will have a shot at 1 of 3 QBs. Allen and Mayfield are going to drop a bit further.

The Bills will need to trade into the top 10, then trade again into the top 4. The nfl trade value chart http://walterfootball.com/draftchart.php is not an exact science when competition arises. It is obvious to me that Denver, Jets, Miami and Arizona are all in the mix and SF needs a #2. If we trade #21 and a #2 plus a pick next year, then we can land pick number #9 (keeping #9, #22, #56, #65 and #96). Getting from #9 to 3 or 4 would only be 450 to 850 points, so I would assume that we would target Cleveland at #4. Thoughts? http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000919673/article/2018-nfl-draft-order-for-all-seven-rounds

I want to have at least 7 picks this year. QB (Rosen or ?), LB (fast), DT (Pass rusher), RG (Bruiser), RB (Bruiser), DB (nickel)

Another possibility is dumping next years #1 which I hate, but next year we will have 90 million in cap space to fill in the holes and I believe that Cordy Glen will fetch a #2 in 2019.

I don’t think Glenn will fetch a first but if I’m the Bills I’m looking for what the Texans got for Duane Brown who basically retired etc. and hadn’t played in a year plus

The Texans I believe got a 2018 3rd round pick and a 2019 2nd round pick for Brown and a 2018 5th rounder. I think they could get somewhere in that ball park

I agree. That was the deal I based this on and it reminded me of when we traded Jason Peters for a late #1.

i have never heard this. not calling you a liar by any means, just haven't heard it. if glen is healthy, and wants to be a part of the process, then he is definitely one of our five best o linemen. i am all for lining up the best five to protect our new qb and block for shady and co. i would love to see the ol turn back to a position of strength. but if cordy really wants out, then let's get what we can.

indeed. if he is healthy, he is a damn fine lineman. find a place for him and let's roll!

Glen is a very good LT. Probably a top 5-10 pass blocker and good run blocker. Sliding over Dion Dawkins to RT could work, but I think are better dumping the salary. I agree if we kept both and drafted a RG, then our line would be excellent for a rookie.

Yep.......put TALENT around that young QB.

And mark my words........if they go to camp without Glenn to serve as a motivation for Dawkins to aspire to that LT job...........I predict Dawkins will take a step back.

Competition is very important, especially for developing young players.

Sometimes young players without competition get lazy or simply get trapped in their own head and can't just play fast and loose...........they operate better in ACTUAL competitive situations with other players.......which is the wiring that got them to the upper levels of the game in the first place.

We tend to take for granted that good rookie years will mean better sophomore seasons and that's not necessarily how it works.

With TT gone it's looking ever more likely that a guy like Rosen, Darnold or Jackson will be starting for Buffalo as a rookie and the better the supporting cast the better the chances of success for that guy over his first two seasons.

That's how the Eagles and Rams just accelerated the production of THEIR young QB's.

Excellent points. A later Glen trade would = a 2019 pick that could be performance based.

  14. We have to sign one big name to solidify a position.

Andrew Norwell? I heard he is going to the Giants already

Sheldon Richardson? Revenge against the Jets...

    Dontari Poe? Space Eater

Zack Brown? Very fast, but misses some tackles

Preston Brown? Solid but not amazing

    Nigel Bradham? Cheap

    Avery Williamson? Fast
