  1. I was listening to WGR55 and Sal was talking about if we stay at 12 and 22. The cost implications for the 5th year option versus the top  of the draft are very significant. I am not saying that you don't move up and get your dude at 2, 4, 5 or 6, however if we can't the 5th year option is up to 8 Million different for example. Sammy was a $14 Million dollar option versus Tré White who may be half that or far less. Having the 5th year option to me is essential for flexibility in resigning or trading an asset. I wish we had another 1st rounder this year or next.

This also makes me believe that trading for a guy on another team that is an 11-32 pick makes sense in the future. Many of these first round picks get moved for far less in year 4 (E.g. Sammy Watkins). The problem is signing them long term would be the goal. The Rams wasted a 2nd rounder for a rental player which they cold have used this year to trade for Odell Beckham instead.

I know we need to draft an MLB (high priority) and a QB (must be a fit and cost must not be outrageous). If we do not move up I would inclined to trade a 2nd and 4th this year to any team willing to give us a 2019 1st round pick. Our seconds our middle-late, so it may cost a bit more. Draft capitol in the first round just seems to give a team much more flexibility. Plus ANY team can sh** the bed and a 1st rounder could be a 4th-14th (E.g Houston at 4, Denver at 5, Oakland 9 and Green Bay at 14). It is worth the gamble.

That puts me into this odd situation in my thought process... I believe that it will be Baker Mayfield and Lamar Jackson that will be available somewhere between picks 6-12 (pick 6 will cost $$$$). I think they are both a bit of a reach until pick 9 (sweet spot as we can swap a 3rd or 2nd with SF), but it is a QB and we need one. I do not care what analysts think. I care what our scouts/coaches believe and know about our system and the best fit. Neither will be available past pick 22. On potential alone they are both electrifying. Mayfield can dink, dunk and create. Lamar can add extra first downs with his legs. I now that many of you believe that Lamar is going to fall past pick 22, but I am not so sure. If this guy can sit for 2 years to learn a system and gain about 12 lbs he may be the guy. He ran our system in college. Mayfield is a proven winner, but I am not so sure he is a Buffalo guy and can he deliver when it is freezing, blowing and etc. Last item, if it is Josh Allen that falls and a HIGHLY doubt it, because of his size and the nature of the teams all being in nasty weather without domes, then Buffalo needs to grab him if he falls between 4-6 even if it costs both 1st round picks this year. YES, he could be a bust... But is he better than Bortles (pick #3)? Does he look as good as Big Ben (pick #11)? I would have to say he is. I think he can do quite well in the NFL. He actually to me seems like a guy that will work hard. Do I think he could kill us for 4 years and set us back. It is very possible, but not likely.

Do we forgo all crazy thoughts and sell out to go to pick 2 or 4, basically giving away 2 drafts for 1 guy?

Do we go to pick 6 if Mayfield or Allen fall to pick #6 past Denver?

Do we take Lamar at #12 because Daboll and the gang believe that he is our guy?

Do we stay and take best player available at #12 (MLB/Corner/WR) and #22 (C/Guard, LB, WR)?

Do we use #12 to trade down to get another 1st rounder next year?

Do we consider trying to get another 1st rounder next year by giving up a 2nd rounder + change for example?

Anyways I created a Poll to see what you think! I left out other QBs as an option, because they are all below average to me.

  2. The list is interesting because it is highlighted by several Corners, QBs, RBs, a few at OT, and WR, TE, then 1 of each at C, ILB and S.

  3. I think we should move up from pick #22 to pick #9, if SF is willing since they don't have a 2018 2nd rounder; #53 (give them a 2019 4th) and we keep the #12. At #9 and #12 we either get our QB and our LB by being patient and/or a Corner or OG/OT. We need a lot and there will be some talent up there for sure. Pressure would be put on other teams trying to move up for a QB also pushing guys down to us.

We can also still field calls from the Giants for the #2 pick. I think the Giants would take #9 and #12 plus a 2nd next year. We could take Rosen and stick it to the Jets. It would be classic to see the Jets overpay and get Mayfield or Allen instead.

I believe the Giants want Chubb/Darnold if they stay and not Barkley or Rosen. The may instead land Josh Allen and a big man. Jumping from 9 or 12 to 5-7 would not cost them much and they may be able to use next years picks.

Note: Gettleman Drafted — QB Cam Newton (Josh Allen), LB Luke Kuechly (Alec Ogletree) and many offensive and defensive lineman.

Note: The Giants could still move back up and grab Allen to groom behind Eli and it may only cost them a high 2nd from pick #9. I think Allen belongs in NY and sit behind a 2x Champion for 2 years.

We get Josh Rosen who is not a project and could start next year... and that leaves us with a 2nd, 2x 3rds, a 4th, a 5th and a 6th this year.

Next year we would trade down to get our 2nd rounder back.

  4. Allen is great for all of the short, intermediate and especially deep outs for the controlled stuff. For such a killer arm and a staged event, the super deep throughs were not really on target. I think this guy can have success and I do believe he will need a QB whisperer for 2 years. The statements that he lacks anticipation reminds me of Tyrod and the other QBs outside of the top 12 of the NFL. I am leaning towards Mayfield a bit at #12, but I can see how scouts get excited on the potential.

That or the other lb edmunds. I have a feeling one of them will be there, but yes is one of the top 4 qbs are gone and the lbs are gone, we may take vita vea too.  If he is gone too, then trade back i guess, but i think that has the smallest chance of happening

Edmunds physically is a dream guy, but I hear he is slow to react. Can teach that, so he to me makes him Zack Brown with size, but I did love Urlacher!.

I know we gave a player not a pick, thats irrelevant. We gave up something to move up, why would we turn around and move back down. We didnt save that much cap space. So we moved up for a strategic qb play, or we wanted a player (say Roquan Smith) that has value around there.

Trading down would negate the glenn trade

I believe Roquan is the guy if not a QB, if he is gone, then why not trade down and turn a 2nd round for Glen into a 1?

The Bills are going to wait until draft day, and see how things play out.  if their guy is where they think they can get him, they will, if not, they won't, simple as that.  We need ALL of our picks this year as we have glaring holes to fill.  We can't buy the farm without knowing how many cows are in the barn.. ;)

Let's trade back to get more ammo for next year when there is even less QBs coming out.

    Brilliant.

I hear yah. Luck of the Bills. But overpay for an average QB instead or build the roster?

I buy lottery tickets, but don't expect to win.

However, if a guy is worth the risk pull the trigger or trade up. I can't say since I have to ignore the press.

Can this even be a question?

I'm not a huge fan of the crotch-grabbing, look at me antics. But Baker Mayfield is going to have one helluva NFL career, right out of the gate.

I think you may be right. His swag is off the charts. If Allen had his swag, then I would choose him. Mayfield will be limited. Think Chad Pennington with a bit more juice and athleticism.

why would we trade up, to turn around and trade down?

1- We used a player not picks to move up. Strategic move to get into position to move up for QB

2 - Beane said that we were not ready yet to evaluate the QBs and Jets boxed us out, by raising the price to 3 first round picks and a 3rd rounder.

3 - Then the Giants traded JPP.... Why? Rosen or Chubb is my guess. Or a trade down to top 5 and still get Chubb or OG

4 - Rosen was the target. Do we believe strongly that Allen/Mayfield can be our guy?

Yes,  if all the top QBs are out of reach, my plan A is to trade down for next year picks.

Problem is, outside of WRs from Clemson, teams usually only trade a future 1st for QBs.  What you are suggesting is kind of a catch 22, a player who isn't good enough that we want him but is good enough a team wants to trade up for him.

As an aside, I really can't see the Steelers doing that, that's just not how they operate.

I agree. The Steelers have traditionally never done that, unless they traded for a QB.

You dont reverse course a month out from the draft when you have a single goal in mind which is to move up and draft your franchise QB and youve been spending the last year acquiring assets to do so.

Many are mistaking Inaction with second guessing.  The Bills could have a couple deals on the table involving Giants and Broncos that may go down to draft day. No one knows.

Until then we’ll get silly threads like this

I definitely believe that the deals are almost in place, but contingent upon the Giants true game plan. QB, DE or trade down. Denver may trade down?

    1 hour ago, MJS said:

Wow. That would never happen. Ever. No need to even discuss it.

I hope not, but I would not doubt it what-so-ever.

  10. Before you read this, YES I do want a QB. I do not believe we will trade up unless it is between picks 5-9. I actually would take Allen (BUST ALERT) over Mayfield, because of the height and arm strength issues, BUT I would take Mayfield at pick #12.

The possibilities are endless. The Giants are a HUGE wildcard. I would be happy if they drafted Rosen and screwed the Jets, but Chubb is probably the target or some type of trade down?

This post may piss everyone off and go against everyones mindset. However, if the Bills do not value or believe that Allen (project w/ amazing arm, inaccurate and quiet leader) or Mayfield (short w/attitude, average arm, but does win) are their guy. This also means that the Bills are not interested in giving up 3x first round picks (2x 2018 and 1x 2019, maybe a 3rd too) to move ahead of the Jets. The Only way the Bills would trade to #2 is if Darnold was there and he won't be. I do not believe that they think Rosen is worth the draft capitol, however if they did, then Buffalo would need to trade up to 4-6, then up again to #2.

My guess is 2 teams will compete with us for a QB in the top 11 or everyone is blowing smoke and 1-2 may fall all the way to pick #11-#12. Miami is in bad shape and should trade down too (note: Miami may be looking at QB). SF needs a #2 pick. Picks 5-11 all have a QB.

Broncos and Colts want a Blue Chipper, so the price may be steep.

Getting to #12 was by trading CG to the Bengals, so by trading back with again like last year would most likely be with 27. New Orleans Saints or 28. Pittsburgh Steelers to net a #1 in 2019 and a 3rd rounder this year, which to me sounds pretty good to me if none of the top prospects are there we covet. In a draft like this Blue Chip prospects will be gone and we will be looking at the 2nd tier which the value is the same all through the early 20's.

We are rebuilding for sure, so if you think Buffalo is jumping back into the playoffs with all of the holes on our team it is unlikely. Our Offense is pathetic at the moment and it will take 1-3 years to get it into the top 10. The Defense can be a top 12 much quicker and keep games close.

Now... Buffalo would have fire power to move up and down this year and more next year. We would own 2 drafts and purge the old guys to build a team. We also would have the ability to trade for Nick Foles using the New Orleans #1 next year and a 3rd this year as an option...

    2018 Draft

    #22, #27, #53, #56, #65, #91, #96, #121, #166, #187 (7x in the first 2 days)

    * Pittsburg does not have a 3rd and maybe we can get their 2019 2nd rounder for pick #91?

    2019 Draft

    1st - own, 1st - NO, 2nd - own, 3rd - own, 4th - own, 4th - NO, 5th - own, 6th - own, 7th -own (possible compensatory picks?)

    1. Cleveland Browns
    2. New York Giants
    3. New York Jets from Indianapolis Colts
    4. Cleveland Browns from Houston Texans
    5. Denver Broncos
    6. Indianapolis Colts from New York Jets
    7. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
    8. Chicago Bears
    9. San Francisco 49ers
    10. Oakland Raiders
    11. Miami Dolphins
    12. Buffalo Bills from Cincinnati Bengals
    13. Washington Redskins
    14. Green Bay Packers
    15. Arizona Cardinals

    16. Baltimore Ravens
    17. Los Angeles Chargers
    18. Seattle Seahawks
    19. Dallas Cowboys
    20. Detroit Lions
    21. Cincinnati Bengals from Buffalo Bills
    22. Buffalo Bills from Kansas City Chiefs
    23. Los Angeles Rams

    25. Tennessee Titans
    26. Atlanta Falcons

    28. Pittsburgh Steelers
    29. Jacksonville Jaguars
    30. Minnesota Vikings
    31. New England Patriots
    32. Philadelphia Eagles

  11. #1 Darnold - Cleveland

#2 Chubb - Giants (unless Bills acquire pick #4 and trade again with Giants - PROBABLY NOT): JPP trade makes this almost official

    #3 Rosen - Jets

    #4 Barkley - Cleveland

#5 ????? - Denver (if not QB then...)

#6 TRADE ALERT with Colts? Allen and Mayfield

Would you do it, hope for them to fall further or wait another year? I am a Darnold/Rosen fan only unless a QB drops to us.

Did the NFL draft drop from 32 teams to 12 ... many players won't be there where you predict especially round 2

The draft is the draft. If you can predict it them you must have a crystal ball. It is a projection based on guys expected to be available and/or have injuries, so they may drop. Remind me how close I was next month. There are runs on player positioning too. 1-2 guys may go higher or drop down another round. If we trusted what the TV scouts predict, then we would only be 70% on a good day.

We don't need an OT and an additional linebacker?

Incognito is in his last year and modified his contract. He is a goner after this season, RG is crap, RT is crap. FA's are depth... We have no MLB and we need a lot more depth at LB. Depth chart is crap. And our Center is really an average guard who can fill in for now.

Most important positions for QB friendly offense in order:

    #1 LT - Dion Dawkins

    #2 C   - Average center

#3 TE - Clay is gone next year with option in his contract

#4 RB - McCoy is the offense

#5 WR - Benjiman is a good red zone/3rd down target

#6 WR - unknown who will catch 60-80 balls

#7 OGs - Guards are on decline and/or suck

Defense: Solid from 4 with no depth

    #1 DE's can add pressure

#2 DT's are solid run stoppers

    #3 Williams is old

#4 OLB - one solid young guy

#5 MLB - must be athletic, at least 6'1-4" and decisive that is more than Preston Brown (we have no one right now)

#6 Defensive Backs: #1 Corner, Probowl FS and SS, Ok 2nd corner that may be injured still, no Nickel corner or depth

  14. I believe that Polian is a shrewd businessman these days and does not live in the new era anymore. He looks very unhappy. The guy is a major downer, but sure can build a team. He managed to get a team built in Buffalo when no one wanted to play there and Ralph Wilson (all about the money and never paid premium dollars) cared less if we won or not. Polian wanted to win and I respect him for his past, but now he is a bitter old dude.

After his talk about not trading Foles unless Philly gets 2x1's and 2x2's I was like what the F are you talking about. Foles had a good run, but his body of work is just average. the same for all of the free agents this year. AJM is OK and can be a top 30 guy, but he has no weapons with us. He probably will not crack under pressure if we can put together an offensive line and RUN a TON. Bill also drafted http://www.nfl.com/player/kerrycollins/2500150/profile #1 and he sucked ass. Manning was an easy pick over #2. Jim Kelly over Eason and O'Brian worked out, but missing on Marino wasn't exactly a super great move, but obviously it worked out. Imagine Marino in Buffalo.

John Elway News    QB    Stanford    1    1(1)    Indianapolis
Todd Blackledge News    QB    Penn State    1    7(7)    Kansas City

https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/M/MariDa00.htm 190 more TDs than Kelly and 190 less bottles of wild turkey. I do not disrespect what Kelly did or that he has cancer. I never missed a game and was at every playoff game and 1 super bowl. I do believe that we lost the Giants super bowl, because Kelly called too many passes when Thurman was unstoppable. Best time I had in Buffalo even though we lost 4.

Polian looked at talent and overlooked small schools (Reed), injuries (Thomas), Cocaine and a fat butt (Bruce Smith), country boozing (Jim Kelly buying cases of wild turkey) and had amazing success. All in the Hall of Fame including himself.

My point is that Polian knew to build the team in the draft, make trades and take a QB when the time is right. I agree. Every QB in this draft is risky. Next year almost every team will have a young or veteran QB. Buffalo can build a winner by the summer of 2019 if they are patient and make good choices. Build a stout front 7 and offensive line that can bully teams. An above average QB can win. Unfortunately we have a sick schedule this year and only 4-6 games look winnable at the moment.

Will Buffalo ever draft a QB in the top 5? We shall see. It has never happened yet.

why do all of these mocks have the Broncos not taking a QB?  they had the entire front office at the Mayfield and Rosen pro days and they only have Keenum on what is essentially a 1 yr deal.  they are 100% taking a QB

The reason why I agree and disagree.

Denver needs to win now or Elway could lose his job. He has missed multiple times at QB in the first and last season was a disaster. He would be getting another project QB and no blue chipper like Chubb/Nelson/Fitzpatrick/Barkley. Also, Denver has learned that FA QBs will come to Denver. Buffalo, Jets and Cleveland are the opposite right now.

I agree, because they should not be in the top 10 again for 2 years.

KC jumped 17 spots for basically the same trade, why would the Bills do the same for a 6 spot swap? 22 and next years 1st, ok, not for a swap of 12 to 6.

I don't care what the Jets set the market at, not every GM is that stupid.

I absolutely love this swap, however Indy won't leave a blue chipper unless we sweeten the deal with a #3.

  17. If it is not Rosen or Darnold I would be shocked if McBeane gives away our #1 in 2019. Look at what happened to Houston. They got a stud QB, then the pick became a #4 overall for Cleveland. I would say that it worked out for them, but very costly.

Baker Mayfield for potentially the same trade? He has limitations physically that cannot be fixed making him risky. We passed on Mahomes and Watson when we traded down last year. Neither were a fit. How would you compare Mayfield or Allen to either of them.
