  1. Watch out for Tyler Eifert, even at #8, and especially in a trade down scenario. Fits our need for a big receiver who is open when he's not open, even if he is TE. We know we went after Walker and Davis in FA, and that Marrone's offense will feature the TE. He's a good blocker, receiver, and Red Zone target, and would be a nice complement to Chandler with both running seams down the middle.

Agree with you. Not sure about that high at #8. Hopefully we could trade down a litle lower and get mid first round

  2. Found this comment on Geno today. Reading this are you still wanting him to come to the Bills??

This is just a small sample of Pro Football Weekly's scouting report on Geno Smith, in their NFL Draft Preview book: Average field vision, Nonchalant field presense, has pin legs and bad pocket posture, does not command respect from his teammates, cannot inspire, Mild practice demeanor - no urgency, Interviewed poorly at the combine and did not show an understanding of concepts on the white board, needed to be coddled in college, cannot handle hard coaching, overhyped product of the system, could drain energy from a QB room. -Nolan Nawrocki, Pro Football Weekly

This makes me NOT want him.

    Thoughts?

Have not wanted him period! Bust waiting to happen. NO Leadership skills. Lucky to still be in the league in 4 years.....

  3. I think I like Landry the best in the draft as far as QB's go. No one really stands out and I think Geno will be a bust. I like Jones as he is 4 year starter I believe at Oklahoma (SEC) and has put up big numbers. If I were the Bills, I'd either trade down in the first to get a QB or wait till round 2. But I wouldn't blow the 8th overall pick on any QB in this draft.

Totally agree with everything you said...............Good post!!!

  4. I dont mean this in a negative way. I am merely calling it as I see it. Has anyone else seen the Bills in more dire straits than right now? Ive been going to the stadium since the early 70's and suffered through some tough times like the rest of you. But I dont ever remember it being as bad as it is right now. From the Buddy nix phone call that was just pathetic from a GM. To a long term deal with a journeyman contract. At one point we had Russ Brandon as the GM not too mention we have only hit on a few draft picks in the last ten or so years. 13 years of no playoffs. People can flame away at me, franky I dont care my life will go on. As of right now, and I know its been discussed already, but we have 1 wide receiver, no tight end until some point in the season, just lost the top or close to the top guards in the NFL, Fred Jackson has wear and tear so we have no depth at RB. We have one QB on the roster that we gave a 7th round pick for then never dressed him the whole year. Oh, and this QB cant hit the broad side of a barn. On defense we have no linebackers and wow, we signed a second stringer from Cinci. Maybe our D line is a strength but the jury is still out and Dareus hasnt played like a number 3 over all. He gets a pass for his brothers death. At safety we are weak and at CB too. I am bracing for 1-15 to 3-13 at very best. Yes my friends, its that bad. So get your popcorn ready for the comedy show.

No. I totally agree. and worse it looks like there is no end to the bumbling in sight.....

  5. Just saw a discussion on NFLN that went:

KC has filled most of its glaring holes via Free Agency/Trading. They dont need the #1 spot, and would probably be willing to trade out of it pretty cheap (the talking heads joked the Bills could do it with just their #8 and #41).

Jacksonville showed up at Geno Smith's pro day with their ENTIRE front office staff. Doing KC a huge favor by alerting all teams know of their (possible) interest.

Of course, they could just be after another player at #2 and want to guarantee Geno goes first so they get their guy.

I've been in favor of the Bills trading up to #2 or #3 to get Smith all along. If we could get up to #1, we have to make it happen. Especially if we could do it for #8, #41, and next year's 2nd or something.

That would be the worst thing that the Bills could do. First of all, Smith is not worth the first pick in the draft, not even a top 10 pick. Second, the Bills would have to give up their #1 and #2 picks this year and at least their #2 pick next year. For a team with so many needs, that would be a huge mistake. If Smith was a Luck or RG III, that would be different, but not for Smith. There are 6 QB's this year all with very similar skill sets, so the Bills should not mortgage the future for any of them.....

  6. Better career stats? Considering Landry Jones has 1 more season starting, sure..he has more YDS and TD's.

Geno has a higher career comp %, Geno has a MUCH better TD/INT ratio, and higher QB ratings (whatever that's worth). Landry Jones is an INT machine, for college standards.

Exactly. Better career stats and he gets no credit. I'm not saying that Jones is the answer, but Smith shows no appreciable difference in the stats and it is ???? whether he is really that much better than any of the other QB prospects. Time will tell but I hope the Bills don't waste a first round pick on him

  7. Trade up to #3 if possible and take Geno Smith.

    1. He has by far the most physical tools of any QB in this draft to succeed at the next level.

    2. He most likely will not be there at #8.

    3. The thought of having TJax starting for us next season makes me want to vomit.

    4. The thought of us drafting Nassib makes me want to vomit

4a. If we draft Nassib, I think (I could be wrong) that this wouuld be the first time in NFL history where a HC, OC, and QB all come to the NFL the same season from a single college program.

4b. For no other reason than 4a, I want nothing to do with Nassib. Ya, it's a silly reason, but holy sh*t, Syracuse, though Marrone got the most out of them, didn't do much of anything in a rather weak conference, so what the heck should we expect from the same exact group in the NFL. Do we make the Syracuse Athletic Director the Bills GM next? Shoot me. :death:

There really isn't a single QB in this draft (other than Geno) that excites me in any way. We need the draft picks but I'd be willing to trade away our first 3 picks this year and take a chance (for once) on a premier QB prospect. If not this season, with a completely different regime, when?

You must be out of your mind. First of all Geno Smith is not rated that high to be the #3 pick in the draft. Secondly, the Bills need all of the draft picks that they can get as they have a roster devoid of players, not even starters anymore and, Thirdly, Geno Smith is not the answer and is no better than any of the other QB's in this draft. Landry Jones outplayed him, and has better carrer stats. Glad you aren't making decisions on draft day.....

  8. I couldn't agree with you more. Having been a fan for 40 years, I have seen it all, but I agree with all of your points. Even if Marrone is a decent coach, he does not enough players to build on anything. It will probably be a worse season this year, then slowly build back to mediocrity over the following seasons with no real progress being made. If the Bills draft Geno Smith, I probably will not renew for next year as he has loser written all over him. Good physical talent with no heat or leadership skills after watching him this year. I was rooting for Landry Jones, but he does not seem to be the answer either. Bad times. Hopefully they will draft well and get some decent free agents, but that's hoping and you know what happens when you hope.........not what you want

  9. The only quarterback I want in this draft is Geno Smith. He has a unique skill set that you could build an offense around especially if you are innovative and adapt schemes to players strengths. Add his dynamic skillset to CJ Spiller in the backfield and you could have a dangerous offense.

What people on here seem to underestimate as well are leadership characteristics in a QB. I believe Geno Smith possesses great leadership qualities. He has a great positive attitude. He can handle the media with class, dignity and confidence. He also has a slight "edge" to him that guys would follow.

I think all the other QBs will basically be like Tannehills, Ponders; just mediocre guys who will never be a franchise quarterback.

The problem is I feel strongly the Eagles will take him at #4. They have Vick to be the veteran to groom Smith for one year or maybe even just a half year. Chip Kelly's offense largely depends on a mobile quarterback and I think they will take Geno Smith as their QB of the future.

I either hope we get lucky and they don't take him or Buddy Nix has the sack to trade up in front of them.

THANK GOD! Will be a total bust

  10. Let's just start off by saying this is the wrong year to be going after your "Franchise" QB. There is no QB that has shown he is that caliber IMO. There is not a 1st Round QB in this draft. Yes, Geno is athletic, he has a good arm, and he can throw on the run. But if his 1st read isn't open, he struggles with reading the defense and with progressions. I say no thank you. Nassib is Marrone's boy from Syracuse. Strong arm and fairly athletic, but it seemed that he lacked touch when throwing the ball. He reminds me a lot of Jimmy Clausen to be honest and we all have seen how he has worked out in Carolina. Tyler Wilson? Another product of Petrino as was Brian Brohm. No thanks. Mike Glennon? Though he wasn't helped much by his WR's, he still took a step back from his Junior to Senior seasons. Tyler Bray? Strong arm and can make any throw you would want on a football field, but he is erratic and didn't show any improvement over the last couple of seasons. He is also said to be a headcase. No thank you. Zac Dysert? A guy who couldn't even dominate in the MAC? A guy who put up just about the same numbers over the last two seasons, actually less this year than the year before? Not the answer. Matt Barkley? I thought Barkley was the QB I wanted, but then got to see him without his All Pro LT protecting him. This year he struggled mightily with his decision making and when under pressure. I'd take him in the 3rd to see if he pans out, but in no way do I believe that he is a clear cut Franchise QB worthy of a 1st Round selection. EJ Manuel? Project. They didn't ask but so much of him @ FSU and he is still a raw talent. I also don't think he fits with Marrone's style of offense to be honest. No thanks. The most intriguing prospect in this class to me is Landry Jones. I hated Landry Jones until this year. I thought he was an overrated choke artist who collapsed when under defensive pressure and whenever the game was in his hands to win or lose. He proved me wrong. He stood tall against Notre Dame and their tough defense, he carried them against WVU, and he brought them back then led his team to victory against Ok. State. He has prototypical size, a good arm, and seem to take a step forward this year. I still don't see him as a clear cut Franchise QB because most of his work was in a Spread offense and Marrone doesn't run a Spread. How will he be able to operate from under Center? What is his footwork like? Will he be able to read the defense without being in a shotgun formation? I wouldn't be mad if we took him in the 2nd, but would hate to draft him 8th. I know Nix said we need a Franchise QB, but which QB is one? Seriously? I also wouldn't be mad if we didn't draft a single QB at all and just brought in competition for Fitz via FA or a reasonable trade. This draft just isn't the one to try and hang your franchise on by reaching for a QB.

I agree with your thoughts on Landry Jones. I really still think he can be good, and would draft him in Round 2 after the BPA in Round 1.He showed great resiliantcy in come-back wins over WVA and OKLA ST as you stated as well as being one of the only players who showed up vs. ND. He also grew as the season went on with all new receivers except for Kenny Stills. The Cotton Bowl was a disaster, but more from the entire OKLA perspective than anything else. They were badly outclassed. I think he has the size, arm, experience and character to succeed at the next level, but needs good coaching as well to refine his game. As far as I am concerned, he has more experience and achievements than any of the other candidates as there is really no sure candidate in this year's draft, but think he is the best bet for the Bills at this point. GO BILLS!!!!!!!!!!!

  11. Wilson has small hands and concussions , Glennon has slow slow feet, Bray throws the most beautiful pass you'd ever see then turn around and misses by a mile, Jones crumbles under pressure, Nassib can't escape pressure, throws really bad passes when pressured and is inaccurate past 20 yards, Manuel is fast but not quick, decisions and delivery are too slow,

He had 2 great comebacks this year later in the season, so I'm not sure about crumbling under pressure. Yes, he did not play well against KState and Texas A&M, but neither did the entire team. He seems the most NFL ready of all of the QB's and has the stats to prove it. I just don't understand why he is not getting more press. Who did any of the other QB's play vs. what Jones did. Okla did lose to ND, but he had over 300 yeards in that game and considering how bad Okla played that night, he should be given credit fior that, along with his great comebacks vs. West Virginia and Okla State.

  12. What is everyone's opinion on Landry Jones?

Havent heard much talk about him.

    CBF

Personally, I think he is the best alternative for the Bills. I agree. I just do not understand why there has not been more discussion about him. He has had by far the most prolific career of the QB's being considered. he is big, has a strong arm, has been a 4 year starter, played in a pro-style offense and played against top-flight competition. I just don't think any of the other QB's compare to him in terms of their college career and experience. I just hope the Bills don't make a huge mistake here a sit will set the franchise back 3 years if they do. I hope thye do their due diligence and choose the best QB, and not the most hyped. Jsut don't understand all this talk about Glennon. He has not played vs. top competition. just doesn't do it for me.

  13. Landry Jones. He has the best statistics of all the QB's, is big, has a strong arm, played in a NFL type offense, played against top-flight competition and was a four year starter. His stats are actually double what Sam Bradford's were while at Oklahoma and he was playing his best ball at the end of the season with two great clutcg performances against West Virginia where he outplayed Geno Smith and vs. Oklahoma State. Don't know ehat happened in the Cotton Bowl, but Oklahoma's entire team was awful in that game. Do I think he is a lock (No way). But when I evaluate him and what he has done vs. the other candidates, he is the obvious choice. Who did Glennon or Nassib play of any consequence during their career's? ACC and BIg East (Really!!!). Watching both of them did not convince me that they can play at the enxt level.Matt Barkley is a good QB, but I just don't think he has the size or arm strength to play in Buffalo. and then there is the whole USC QB littany of failures. Is he a "system" QB? EJ Manuel is very athletic, but I just don't think he is going to be a quality QB in the NFL. Not sure about his ability to read defenses. Same for Geno Smith. He is also very athletic, but again, I think he is going to be a bust. He does not handle pressure well and seems to fade away with the game on the line. Just not sold on his leadership ability in the clutch. I agree that Tyler Bray has immense upside, but he needs more experience and is still immature. He should have played one more year at Tennessee. He needs a couple more years and the team that drafts him needs to have him sit on the bench for a few years. Unless the Bills plan on bringing Fitzpatrick back, or signing a free agent QB, then he would be out.

These are my thoughts FWIW. Overall, no QB is a lock out of this class. We can only hope that whoever the Bills choose is the right guy. We as fans deserve better after 13 years of futility................

  14. ROUND ONE - GENO SMITH

    ROUND TWO - MATT BARKLEY

we pull that off and I will dress as Peter Pan to work the following week

That would be my worst nightmare. Smith will be a bust and Barkley will be a back-up. We need to go after good defensive players after we get a decent QB. I still like Landry Jones. Will be interetsed to see how he performs in th Senior Bowl.

  15. You forgot the most important player ; LANDRY JONES

"Jones has shown a unique ability to make all the throws on the football field. In the process, he's rewritten the OU -- and Big 12 -- record books.

Jones is the Sooners' career leader in passing yards, wins, passing completions, 300-yard games, 400-yard games, and passing touchdowns. And with more than 16,000 career passing yards, he is the No. 1 passer in the 16-year history of the conference.

His opponents have taken notice. A&M defensive end Damontre Moore raved Sunday about Jones' ability in the pocket.

"He's a talented quarterback," Moore said. "I think he's NFL-ready. He has extremely good poise in the pocket. His arm strength is amazing. He's, overall, just a talented, complete quarterback."

Couldn't agree more. Draft LANDRY JONES!!!!!!!!!

  16. Landry Jones should be the Bills next QB. He is big, has a strong arm, has a lots f experience (4 year starter) in a pro-style offense, played against top caliber competition and can make all of the throws Fitzparick cannot make. He will also help the run game as defenses will not be able to stack the box against the run as he can throw the ball down the field. He is also playing the best ball of his career (see 2 comeback wins in the last 3 games). He also had to get used to all new receivers and that is why he struggled earlier in the season. I hope the Bills get him........ Go Bills....

  17. and he hires David Cadwell, who hires Gruden who hires Kevin Green and Caldwell drafts Landry Jones.

Totally awesome post. Agree 100%. we can only hope!!!

well I've watched 6 games this year and he is the best QB hands down, mark it down going first round.

Totally agree. I have watched most of his games and he is hands-down thr best prospect coming out
