  1. Still better than EJ, still the best QB on the roster, but he surely isn't the long term answer at QB.

I really wanted to believe, but he is another checkdown or scramble guy that can't consistently read the defense and throw down the field.

    It's frustrating.

Totally agree. Great athlete, but cannot throw from the pocket and does not have the durability to survive as a full time QB. Would be a good back up, but the Bills better try and get busy about finding a starter.................

Totally agree. He is a great athlete, but cannot throw from the pocket and is too small and injury prone. Will never survive a full season. They need to address this ASAP before the Defense gets worse....

  3. Does anyone know what happened there? They called holding on the Bills and Illegal Shift on the Pat's, but never explained it further and never said who the penalty was on. I knew the game was over after that play. It was at least 3 if not 7 points that we lost, and coupled with the missed FG at the end of the half which took another 3 off of the board for us and set up the Pat's for their TD where they would have only gotten a FG at best, was the difference in the game.

Anybody who can add insight to that penalty would be great.......

  4. Yes -exactly. Add to that the poor man's Russel Wilson at qb. TT has all the talent and heart, except he is too small to withstand an NFL pounding and as a result, will never last. That is the reason he was a 6th round draft pick and why he will be on IR before the season is out. He reminds me of Steve Tasker when Tasker played wideout toward the end of his career. Tasker had abiltiy and could make plays, but he was injured all the time because he was too small to play wideout (I am not referring to his special teams play). Absolutely the only thing Whaley has been right about is that we are in purgatory -- even if they should get rid of Rex after this year, he has a five-year contract and a huge salary -- I can't see even the rich as Croesus Pegulas taking that kind of financial hit. The reality is that we have entered yet another 5 year tear down/rebuild with mediocre parts/fail/tear down/rebuild cycle. Whaley has made critical blunders with EJ, the Watkins trade (you make a poor quaterback great by mortgaging the future for a wideout the quaterback will never be able to utilize well?), a huge investment in a d-line that is being mis-used, etc. How long before all the sketchy characters on this roster revert for form?

This is a great post. I agree with Yoli completely. The Bills need to resolve the QB position and the EJ Manuel pick set this franchise back years. Those who think that TT is the answer are crazy. He is a great athlete who can make exciting plays. But, it's one step forward and one step back with him because he counterbalances those great plays with an inability to throw out of the pocket and his exciting running plays also get him hurt (now missing the last 2 games). This pattern will continue if TT continues to be the QB, an awe-inspiring run and pass on the run followed with inconsistency and injury which is what I have been saying from the beginning. EJ Manuel was a total reach as he never showed in college an ability to throw accurately, yet we picked him 16th in Round 1. While he is certainly big enough and has a strong arm, he also will never be a legitimate QB because he does not have the proper feel for the game and accuracy in his throws. Add to that the fact that our key playmakers who are taking up huge cap hits are always injured (McCoy, Watkins, Harvin) and the fact that our OL is mediocre at best, and you have no real Offense. We have to hope that Rex Ryan can figure out what to do on Defense as we are just too talented to keep playing like we have and that we can somehow get a QB who is at least serviceable in the off-season. Otherwise, the Defense will be past it's prime is a couple of years and we will be right back where we started.

  5. From this thread I've learned:

1- Tanking is for losers...so I guess perpetual 7-9ish seasons are the opposite of being a "loser."

2- Tyrod Taylor is a legit top 10 QB. I think Brady, Brees, Rodgers, Rivers, Rothlisberger, Rivers, Flacco, Ryan, Luck, Cutler, Wilson, and the Mannings would find that interesting. But we've got ourselves a top 10 QB!

3- Rex is a horrible coach and this is all his fault.

Got it! When the rest of you start talking which QB we should draft in a month or so I'll be interested to hear your takes.

Really. a Top 10 QB. What Bills games have you been watching? If you believe that, I have some land in the 9th Ward in New Orleans that I would like to sell you! There is a reason Taylor was let go by the Ravens. Yes. He is a great athlete and makes exciting plays, but he is turning out to be exactly what I thought he would be, an exciting athlete who cannot consistently move the offense, throw out of the pocket or stay on the field. Yes. He can run. Yes, he can throw on the run and make some touch passes, but he is a poor man's Michael Vick and will kill you with his inconsistency and time off the field being injured. To me, it is one step forward, and one step back. That's all he will ever be. So, if your goal is to be an average team, Taylor is your guy. He is too small to throw consistently from the pocket and will continue to tease fans with his great runs like in the Tennessee game and, while we won that game, we only scored 14 points with a bad overall offensive effort. That's the dilemma facing this team. Not good enough to make the playoffs and not bad enough to draft a bona fide QB prospect. Throw in Rex Ryan's bad coaching, especially on Defense where he is trying to fit a round peg in a square hole with the Defensive talent is more suited for a 4-3 instead of a 3-4, and you are looking at 8-8 to 7-9 each year. Depressing, but as Metallica would say "Sad but True"!!!!!!

  6.

I'm still hoping we sign Moore, but after the trade today I'm preparing to go into the season with EJ. Fix the line this year, install the systems, let EJ battle it out in camp with Moore/Locker (hopefully not Sanchez) and see who wins. Focus on finding/manufacturing a way to pry a veteran QB (who hasn't won a ring) away from another team over the next two or three years that this window is open. There are a couple of QBs who fit that description who might become available next off season. Put the roster in place now to attract that guy and go all in on him. The team would be loaded, making it an attractive spot for that kind of top tier, yet ring deprived, QB. That's really a pretty realistic scenario and one I'd imagine they've considered.

There's a chance it could happen in the next few months if something were to go haywire in Denver and Peyton shook loose, but that's probably a pipe dream.

I think he is the best option for the Bills at this point. I hope they sign him....

  7.

These were my first thoughts exactly. Would still like to see Moore or Locker.

You sound just like me. Who knows? I hope that they bring in anothetr QB for competition. Maybe they can still bring in Moore or Locker to compete as well....

  8. Assuming the Bills were this hell-bent on getting a running back, they picked the wrong target. Peterson is on the outs in Minnesota. Although they are trying to mend fences, I'm sure if Whaley was dangling Kiko they would have jumped at the idea.

Peterson is much better than any other player at his position. His cap hit isn't much more than McCoy's. And he's been better than him with a lesser line and inferior coaching.

I wonder if they even explored that option considering this trade came together in 20 minutes.

As for the trade itself, the opportunity cost of it, when you factor in salaries and the positional value in question, is so incredibly stupid and reckless that I'm amazed at people defending it. This isn't fantasy football. In any case, it won't make a bit of difference either way until we get a QB.

How is this trade stupid and reckless. Living in the Philly area, EVERYONE, including the more respected Eagle professional analysts, can't believe that the Eagles made a trade giving away argueably the best running back in the league who has the most rushing yeards over the past 2,3,4 and 5 years for a player coming off major ACL surgery with only 1 year of experience. The trade may work out for both team, but, on the surface, based on the tangible facts, the Bills appear to have bartered the better deal. Not sure where your criticism comes in. In addition, it apprears that Keyy and McCoy were not on the same page at the end of the year, so it looks like he was trying to get rid of him. Could also have been an ego thing with him with the Bills being the beneficiary. GO BILLS! Take the high road on this one as the Bills are on top of this for a change......

  9. Moore would be a OK backup for EJ. I'am still impressed with Foles though as a starter also.

Are you kidding me! How you seen Manuel play? He is terrible . Moore should be the starter and yes, I would love if they could somehow get Nick Foles who would be my first choice, but I would be very happy if we could get Matt Moore as I think he could run our offense....

  10. Get Foles and AP and we can host a playoff game or two this year.

That would be a dream come true. We can only hope....

I am just glad they didn't sign McCown or whatever his name is. Why would we want a 35 year old guy who got cut by Tampa? He's not even good enough to stay on the roster of the worst team in the league. Let's bring him in!!

    Are you kidding?

I'm going to party it up a bit.

Sonds like me. His agrent should get agent of the year. Creating demand for a very substandard produce. Total bum and he made people think he was something special. FOOLS GOLD if you ask me. THANK GOD we did not sign him, especially at the price i read at $5MM per season. What a waste of Cap money that would have been. Please go after Nick Foles as the media in Philly is not high on him. He would be perfect for us. GO BILLS!!!!

  11. Good info

--Whaley wants HC to develop EJ

-- Shanahans would not be a GM/HC combo but rather HC/OC combo

    http://bills.buffalonews.com/2015/01/06/bills-interview-least-4-coach-candidates-end-week/

If that is true, then the Bills are done. Need to cut ties with Manuel and move on. He just does not have what it takes to be a QB in this league. Too slow in his decision making and totally inaccurate with many of his throws. If he is the starter next year, then the season is already lost. As Metallica syas "Sad but True". Get an experience QB, get some experienced OL and try and develop the young lineman that they already have. Also draft a back and hopefully, if we can get the Offense to even 'average', we should be able to make the playoffs. Give Schwartz another chance and keep some continuity which is needed right now.

    GO BILLS!!!

  12. Just because Smith improved doesn't mean EJ will improve. That's like saying we should've given JP or Edwards or Collins more time. Problem with having that sort of patience is (1) that it's the exception, rather than the rule, that a QB improves after starting 5 years, (2) if they do become decent, they're certainly not elite, and (3) you miss many opportunities to get that elite QB (which we undoubtedly have experienced here).

Anyways, I'm all for Foles coming here. He would automatically become the best QB we've had since Kelly.

Totally agree. Trade EJ Manuel and either a low draft pick or one of our CB's for Foles. The Bills need a QB now, or they will waste this "D".

    Go Bills!!!

  13. I like what I've seen from Matt Moore. I actually like him better than Tannehil- he shows some fire and leadership in the huddle and made some plays when he had the chance

I agree with you and think that the Fins wasted their #1 pick on Tanneyhill when they could have went with Moore and upgraded their roster at another position. Not sure they would be any worse off with Moore and probably better off in the long run with a better #1 pick.
  14. the only , and i mean only reason not to play EJ is it's the Patriots and Bill will do every thing possible to mess Manuel's head.

But Orton is no longer an option for next year. Guy absolutely lost the game for us

REALLY!!! What game were you watching today. Yes. Orton could have been better, but the Offensive Line did NOTHING to protect him or create a running game. Our WR's didn't get much separation and the Defense made Carr look like Ken Stabler. Could Orton have been better. Yes. absolutely, but he is far fron the reason they lost today. AWFul Team performance along with awful coaching adjustments ( see Henderson)......
  15. I tend to agree with this over most of the rest of the crap posted here.

Flacco isn't get cut, Newton, please, Brees, stop it.

The original plan for EJ was for him to sit behind Kevin Kolb and learn. Kolb's injury screwed that up, so we threw him to the wolves. Perhaps a full off season would help him so we continued wioth that flawed plan. At least the brass at One Bills Drive saw the problem and signed a veteran to help him. The kid has all the skills in the world, we just need to get his timing down and see if we can teach him to trust his reads. He's going to be back in 2015 and with Orton's lack of mobility, it is only time before he gets another chance to play. Then we can see if he has made any progress. The new QB doesn't arrive until 2016 at the earliest.

What EJ manuel have you been watching. Totally inaccurate and will never be a consistent QB. Bills need some one now who can not waste this great "D"!

It doesn't work that way and if EJ is our starting QB next year, we are doomed.

    Totally agree!
  16. I normally don't look at what ifs (since if we do that we need to know we had NO right beating the Lions). But that fumble by Brown could be the most costly turnover in 10+ years for the Bills.

And thanks, OP. I had just about run out of salt to pour into this wound.

Also, what about butterfingers Chandlers half-as$#@ attempt at picking it up in the end-zone. Awful. Will probably cost them the playoffs. And also lets not forgive Marrone for his bone-head coaching decision. He should have kicked the FG with 2:36 left, kickoff and put your best unit on the field to stop the Chiefs and give Carpenter an opportunity to kick a game winning FG at the end. The odds of scoring down there were slim, especially passing....... :wallbash:
