  1. I was wondering the same thing...The thing that really baffles me is the signing of Flynn, a guy who's failure should be proven by now, when we already had these other guys.

Technically Dixon is on the practice squad, so there are only 4 QB's on the roster, plus Dixon on the PS, plus Kolb on IR...Pretty hilarious. Still that means there are 4 QB's vying for practice time right now, with EJ watching on the sidelines. Sounds like a mess to me. Training camp has extended half way into the season.

Another thing that doesn't make a lot of sense is their explanation of Tuel. They say he HAS to be on the active roster because they are afraid of losing him, yet they think so little of him that they have to try and sign every QB under the sun to be a backup above him....

Totally agree. This team has no sense of what they are doing. Yes. They are competitive, but does anyone really think they are going to win anytime soon?

  2. Nothing has changed with Marrone.

Injuries, no depth, poor coaches challenges, poor time management, losing close games.

The more things change, the more they stay the same. Atleast while the constant Russ Brandon has been around

Totally agree. I questioned the Marrone hiring at the time and still do. How do you miss so badly on player evaluation at the most important position. The losing will continue with this regime as it has for the past 13 years. Sad.............but True!!!

  3. OK Where is the fans confidence level at with this group ? Never mind that from an outside standpoint it seems as though chaos reigns at the highest coaching levels for the Bills & that yet another young QB's confidence could be trashed by recent actions by our Bills coaching staff .

Let me first point out a few things that have got my confidence level dropping & questioning some of their moves .

Earlier in the season our coach has said he doesn't believe that continuity in the offensive line is all that important  or something along those lines. That is the first time i ever heard that from a HC or O line coach & He is the only coach that i have ever heard make that statement !

He has also said in his most recent interview on BB.com that they will be playing both Legursky & Brown at the LG position but they haven't come up with a plan on the amount of reps per player but will do it until one possibly shows deserving of being the guy  ??

Any other coach i have ever heard has always said that that is one thing on the O line that is VERY important ! Continuity & Playing together as a unit !! And from last year to this year huge change !

I know the Tuel thing is being covered already but i need to talk about this to get to my point so i apologize to those of you that this may bore .

With regards to keeping Tuel on the roster rather than putting him on the PS . I get it OK at first his explanation sounds valid, but if you look into it , he says"Tuel was playing at a high level in the preseason & they didn't want to take the chance of some one taking him because of his good play" great !

So what has happened between then & now ? They along with other coaching staffs put rookies in early all the time but the difference is they are prepped for that situation, that's what they did with EJ . So why the change of heart ?

Then there is the Thad situation ! First it was going to be a outside QB brought in then realizing after stating such a foolish thing that the talent that they have is good enough they did just the exact opposite, Thad very professionally said on BB.com even he was surprised with the call by the coach ?

So if he's surprised with all of what went on why aren't the fans ? Then again from the outside looking in with the recent move of putting Hopkins on IR this entire thing could have been avoided with a decisive coaching decision weeks ago but wasn't .

So here's a question even though we have heard the explanation from the coach. Was the Hopkins move now made so the coach could cover his a** ? After looking back (b/c hind sight is indeed 20/20) did he now realize & do what he should have done weeks ago which would have been the better move for the team or was it a rookie head coaching mistake ?

I for one don't see the Pats HC doing some of these things we've seen here, and if i'm wrong i'm sure you all will tell me because you ain't scared !!

But & i hope i am wrong BUT at first i didn't like the way this hire went down with the talk of the exhaustive search conducted when guys like Trestman weren't even talked to but that's history now & i'm in with this guy hoping he is what they thought he was & proves me to be wrong.

But i will say with all that has happened with Qb's & releasing kickers adding kickers then putting them on IR , keeping Easley after putting up the best WR numbers in pre season then not using him in games as a WR even with the injuries ? Then the Byrd thing we aren't going to trade him now we are going to trade him ??

All of this has got me not so sure where these guys are headed , yet i hope there is a method to their madness cause to me it kind of resembles madness & my confidence is not what it was in this staff ...

But where is yours as a Fan

Totally agree with all of your points. I too questioned the Marrone hire, and he is actually coming off worse than I even thought. PATHETIC!. My interest in this team is at an all time low. I still don't understand Marrone's logic with the QB situation (not sure if he has any). I just don't see this current group being able to turn the team around. I think you will see a new coaching staff in either 2015 or 2016 as this team has no chance to win when the coach can't even properly evaluate his own team..........

  4. First off the amount of praise that was thrown in Tuels direction from the preseason on, then EJ gets hurt in the preseason & they bring in Lewis & Leinhart , keep Lewis but put him on the practice squad cause Tuel is our guy .

Why not turn it around Tuel to the practice squad & Lewis on the roster ??

Fast forward to game 5 EJ's injury & through a ROOKIE in with little or NO reps on a short week less film study the entire 9 & expect Tom Brady to come on the field - HUH ?

Not only the fans but now the staff just blow this guys confidence completely out of the water by basically telling him in so many words by their actions " we don't believe in you & we aren't even willing to give you the benefit of the doubt by giving you a full weeks worth of work with the ones & you are relegated to #3":thumbdown::blink::huh::wacko: !!

Then go on record to say "we will bring in another QB from outside of the organization" AND DO THE EXACT OPPOSITE OF WHAT THEY SAID ??

This was straight up a college coaching move ! What must be going through this kids head ? It looks like this crew has as much on the ball with the development of a young QB as Mularkey had with JP , & then we ALL wonder why we can't have a winning team ?

OK bring Thad up i get that, but if what you said earlier was true then give Tuel a FULL week of prep with the ones along with Thad getting reps then make your decision as to their performance during the week of practice & if he can't handle that then pull him but to do it the way they went about it is crazy .

Why would this guy have any confidence in this coaching staff putting him in a game after this ?

One more young QB put into the Bills grave yard of QB's , un freakin believable :wallbash: !!!!

Lead by example & this example of this coaching move resembles a college mentality type of move !!

What if after Peytons of Brady's first games which if i remember they weren't what they are now the coaches handled things this way ? Where would they be today ?

I was saying the exact same thing yesterday. This organization is a J-O-K-E. The lowest point in the 35 years of me being a fan. Really regret buying the Sunday Ticket this year

  5. 1) Obviously, it was a shame that EJ went down. What sucks too is that he had time to run out of bounds. He is young and unpolished, but I sense that he is going to be very good.

    - Still not sold on him. I had questions about his mechanics (both in his throwing motion and footwork) coming out of Florida State and those concerns are still there. Checkn out some of his games in college and you will see what I mean

    2) Sure, the punt return before the deuce at the half was a killer, but the stupid play calling led to it. Two useless runs out of the hurry-up, and an incomplete pass under pressure. Then Marrone ran out the clock.

    - Agree - Also not sold on Marrone and the OC. They really did not have overwhelming success in college, so not sure why we should think they can win at the next level. To me, they still have a lot to prove. Was not sold when they were hired and still have a lot to prove to me.

    3) Aaron Williams played like the Aaron Williams I remember. He was beaten like a drum, turned around, and smoked all night. At one point an announcer called him "our best corner." Just a pitiful performance.

    - Not sure what to think of him. He has actually played really well this year and seems better suited at safety, so I would not be too harsh on him. Playing out of position is tough and teams will take advantage of that. I would give him the benefit of the doubt for now.

    4) Mario Williams played as well as he did in the 4.5 sack game. Almost constant pressure and he forced several plays.

    - Agree. He seems to be playing much better this year, but still has a ways to go to justify that mammoth contract.

    5) Colin Brown threw a nice block on a 3rd and 6 run in the 1st quarter. Then, he promptly gave up 2 brutal sacks. What a mess.

    - Agree. He needs to be replaced, but with no depth, not going to happen

    6) Robert Woods plays like a polished professional. It is SO easy to forget that he is a 21 year old kid!!! Nothing but high hopes for this player.

    - Agree - He is the real deal and has a great future. Hopefully he will not get hurt.....

    7) You imagine me sipping champagne from your boot,

For a taste of your elegant pride.

May be going to hell in a bucket, babe,

But at least I'm enjoying the ride.

At least I'm enjoying the ride.

At least I'm enjoying the ride.!

    8) Because Marrone, (who is getting on my nerves more and more) just wouldn't stop with the hurry-up, some of the defenders appeared to be a little winded at the end of the game. This might explain some of the key gains by an old, hobbled Magahee.

    - See #2 Above

    9) I'm saying that there must be better punters on the street looking for work. The best part of Powell's game was his ability to go after returners who were of course streaking down the field.

    - He did have a bad night. Need to monitor his performance going forward

    10) Dareus played very well today. I could see the effort he was putting into his game. The kid hurried up to scrimmage, and appears to be in 10 times better shape than I have seen him in since he has been on the Bills.

    - I thought that as well. Hopefully he will start to play up to his potential

    11) Note to Searcy....catch that ball kid. You had a pick six.

    - Need to look at that play again. The Browns WR got a hand on the ball and tipped it before it even reached Searcy, so Searcy really had no chance on that play

    12) Tuel? Someone forgot to tell me that he has no arm. In terms of arm strength, he made Fitz look like Drew Bledsoe.

    - I still am holding out hope for him, although he did look lost out there. I would like to see him with a full week of preparation to more fairly judge him. Don't forget, he came into the game with several starters injured (Johnson/Graham), was trailing and was in a hostile environment without much prep time. Yes, he did not look good I would agree, but I would like to see a little more before demoting him to the PS

    13) Hughes, Kiko and Alonzo all had big games. You wouldn't know it from the score, but it's true.

    - I agree, although I think you mean Kiko Alonzo. Not sure about Hughes. He did have some good plays, but still not totally sold on this Defense. Yes. They have played much better this year than last year and seem more unpredictable. However, they still are giving up big plays and could not shut the door on the Browns back-up QB when Hoyer went down and also seemed to tire and make MaGahee look good as the game went on which was disheartening for me as I cannot stand Magahee for his negative comemnts on Buffalo. I also think the Bills offensive philosophy of hurrying up is hurting them similarly to what happend back in the K-Gun days. The coaching staff needs to make the proper adjustments of when to go faster and slower dictated by game conditions and so far I have not seen any of theat. Just Marrone sticking with what he wants and not making many adjustments. He needs to get better to put the team in better situations.

    14) A challenge flag because you saw motion. Is this how it works Marrone? I have a better idea...."Hurry up" and learn the rules of professional football.

    - I agree that he should know the rules, but I was thinking the same thing about the ineligible reciever and the subsequent flag not being valid. I guess he should have known that, or had someone else who should have known, but I will also give him some credit for trying.

    15) GO BILLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    - Agree. But it's hard to see any real change from the past. Yes. They have some good young talent, but also major questions at QB, LG, in the secondary (although I think there is real promise once the injured players return) and especially at coaching. Without a good QB and good coaching, everything else becomes almost irrelevant

  6. But why are they rebuilding every 3 years or so? Is it simply because the front office and coaching staffs are that inept, or could it be a deeper more systemic issue not solved with a new QB, HC, or even GM? After all, someone hires those guys, and rarely does anyone question those transactions.

20M under the cap and 13 years without a playoff season. The writing's on the wall with this franchise.

The best post that I read today, and I have read a lot. I had no real hope going into the season, and it looks like just more of the same. Pathetic, just pathetic..........................

  7. Wait one cotton pickin second...the first fight, Mick was pushed in the hall and died. It was Apollo Creed who trained Rocky for the second fight and Clubber was talkin smack at the start of the second fight to Apollo (as I recall).

You are totally correct; BUT, Clubber also went after Apollo in the first fight as well. Remember, Apollo was introduced in the ring in a suit and went over to shake hands with Clubber. Clubber says": Don't need nuthin you got no more, and you better get that bad look off of your face before I take it off; You wanna chuck, chuck; Yeah, like a chicken, you better run". Then Apollo went over to Rocky and said " Do us all a favor and drop this punk". So, technically, you are both correct.............

  8. Liked the fact that he had the team ready to play and hitting hard. Tha said, there were some major coaching concerns:

    * Challenge in the first quarter on the Pat's running back fumbling. - It made no difference as the Pat's recovered anyway. Wasted timeout that was even questoned by the announcers (Bad decision)

    * Not giving Fred Jackson more touches. It was obvious that Fred came to play today. Not sure what was going on with Spiller, but Jackson should have been used more

    * Time Management in the Fourth Quarter - With the lead, the Bills should have adjusted their gameplan and went with using more clock to give the Pat's less time to comeback. It seemed like it was Marrone's own hubris which cost him their as it seemed he was determined to continue with the rapid fire palycalling. Stupid decision where there could easily have taken more time off of the clock, especially calling a passing play on thet 30 second drive with 5 minutes to go. He should have adjuted to the situatiuon and did not.

Hopefully he will learn from this....

  9. Yesterday Doug Whaley on the John Murphy show, talking about QBs said that he really felt Landry Jones has first round talent, NFL ready, and that he is like Fred Astaire in the pocket just like Tom Brady.

I liked Jones Most of the year and if we take him in the second we will have a quality QB that could develop into a top QB.

    Totally Agree with you!!!

  10. FYI: http://www.sports-re...ry-jones-1.html

Overall, in the games Jones started, the Sooners went 40-12. In his four years, they finished 35th, 6th, 16th, and 15th in the final AP poll. He was not supposed to be the starter in his freshman year, but took over when Sam Bradford got hurt. In his final three years, Jones averaged 32 TDs, 13 INTs, 4483 yards, and a completion rate of ~65 percent.

Barkley's stats are remarkably similar. In the games he started, his team went 34-15. http://www.sports-re...-barkley-1.html

My question is as follows: Are the critics of Landry simply following a herd mentality? That is, because McShay/Kiper et al. have him rated as a lesser prospect, does that mean they're right and that we should simply follow their thinking? Does anyone here have a truly educated opinion?

I didn't watch any OK games so I have no idea as to whether he's any good. Statistically speaking, he seems to be quite good -- as good as Barkley. He also apparently has better physical attributes than Barkley.

I have been thinking the same thing. I watched a lot of Oklahoma the last two years seeing if Landry Jones would be a decent pro and, while I agree that he does have some weaknesses, I feel he is as good, if not better, than the other prospects. He is a 4 year starter, has a strong arm, is big at over 6'4", played in a pro style offense in a major conference and set almost all the NCAA passing records and is a first ballot NCAA Hall of Famer. I think he is getting beat up for his fumble and late interception vs. Kansas State and his play in the Cotton Bowl vs. Texas A&M. But what QB didn't have bad plays? Why is Landry singled out? I just don't get it. Some other things to consider: He threw for over 300 yards vs. Notre Dame. It was not his fault that ND manhandled OU on both the Offensive and Defensive Lines and could not run or stop the run all night. Also, he only had 1 receiver come back (Kenny Stills) and lost his #1 go-to guy in Brian Broyles, and it took him some time to get into rhythm with the new receivers which he did, which is not unusual. he should get credit for that instead of ctiticism. He led 2 late come from behind victories vs. West Virginia and Okla State and honestly, OU was not that good this year. They were absolutely horrible on Defense so Landry Jones was always pressured to perform and put up big numbers. This cumulated with a pathetic performance vs. Texas A&M in the Cotton Bowl where the entire team played horribly,. Overall, I like Landry Jones and with the right coaching I think he can be a decent pro. I think none of the other QB's have his background and none are really better than him overall. He also has weaknesses which need to be improved, so I guess it comes down to him developing more. Time will tell......

  11. I just got out of an interesting meeting with some guys that lets just say are fairly familar with the Bills. Out of the one gentlemens mouth & I quote "There is a real power struggle going on, Marrone wants his boy Nassib, Buddy is really bit in the ass over (wait for several posters to jump off the bridge) Landry Jones." I can't see them taking Jones with a 1st round pick(doesn't he have a 3rd round grade) Maybe Nix will take Jones with our 2nd & take Millner/Austin/one of the LBs with our first round pick. Take it for what it is worth, which is not a hell of alot. Just thought I would share.

I really hope they go for Landey Jones. Best QB to be a pro out of college.

If they draft Jones, Buddy should be fired on the spot.

Really! What is your basis. How can you say that when none of the QB's are a slam dunk, and when you consider what Jones did in college vs. the others, you can make an intelligent arguement for picking Jones. Would be interested in hearing your arguements why you are so opposed to Landry Jones and why you feel any of the other QB's are THAT much better...........

It is easy to get hooked on Landry's career, but there are some pretty large concerns. in fact similar concerns I think. I heard Pat Kirwan, former(i know former) GM, grade Nassib as a 3rd-4th at best, and would be lucky to become a career backup. Then some have him as the top prospect. McNabb said that people are willing to take a chance because nobody really knows what he is capable of, he is one large question mark, with some upside, and a little talent in a lot of places. Every QB scares me in this draft, and I am terrified of them all.

If this is true, and Marrone hangs his first head NFL job on his questionable QB, then it will either make or break his career. He either has the ability to identify, find, and cultivate talent, or he doesn't. For this reason if I were Marrone I would stay away from Nassib, the risk of failure with that decision far out weighs the gains if he is successful I think.

I totally agree with you and have been saying the same thing for the past couple of months. Good post!

  12. Been away for a week and don't know if this has been addressed. Watching NFL 32 last week, the boring QB discussion came up with McShay, Kiper and Bill Polian. I was only interested in Polian's comments, not the babbling heads. He was very thorough in his comments and said, his opinion only, that Landry Jones was the only QB he felt would eventually be a long term "franchise" QB. Said he was a victim of a very talent poor team, poor offensive coaching and third rate receivers.

That said, he believes his physical attributes, height, arm strength, durability, and # of starts in a major program made him his choice. I know the Bills are talking up Smith, Nassib and Barley but could this be a smoke screen with Jones their secret choice at #2. I respect Polian's expertise as a talent evaluator and know he has been high on Jones for some time. Impact player @1 and Jones @ #2 ?

Couldn't agree more with you! I was very high on Landry Jones, but there are some questions with him that have popped up. Still, I think there are issues with all of the QB prospects, and, given his success in college, his size, 4 year starter, strong arm, good person. I think the Bills should grab him in the second round after getting the BPA in Round #1. Hope that you are right!!!!

Totally agree with you! I have been a big supporter of him, but his play this year left some questions. That said, all of the QB prospects have questions and when you consider his size, strong arm, 4 year starter, strong character not to mention being at the top of the list in all key College Career QB stats as well as winning 3 bowl games and 2 come from behind victories this year, he definitely warrants a shot. At least as much as the other QB's and don't forget, he beat Geno Smith by throwing aTD pass on the last play of the game to beat him. Not sure why he is so under-rated.... Hope that you are right!

  13. After reading the Kiper Mock Thread it got me thinking about a draft that people would hate. I am not talking about something ridiculous like a punter in the 1st round but guys that just do not make sense (kind of like Whitner when Ngata was on the board). I guess that I will take a shot:

    1st - Jonathan Cooper

    2nd - John Jenkins

    3rd - Mike Glennon

I hate the idea of a guard in the top 10, I think that DT is not a need at all (especially with Branch signing) and I just do not like Glennon as a prospect. I like his arm but not much else appeals to me. I would hate the above draft.

I only went 3 rounds because I think that it is really difficult to hate a 6th round pick before they play a game. You can always use 20/20 hindsight on mid-late round picks but at the time you are filling holes.

    yours???

Geno Smith. Won't get the Sunday Ticket if he is drafted by the Bills............
