Edmunds looks completely lost out there at times, is often out of position and is a liability in coverage. The thing he seems best at is using his speed to chase down ball carriers who got by him. The Bills need better lb play in the middle.

Maybe last year's ridiculous Pro Bowl selection will add something to his trade value. At this point there is no way I would be picking up his 5th year $12.5 million option.

I agree there's times he looks lost. I've defended edmunds alot, its not easy being the LB in the Bills D. The LBs are the focal point of the defense so it's very easy to look bad at times. But watching re runs of games I found myself saying "come on man you gotta make that" alot. And it really changed my opinion on edmunds, he had a down year. He's gonna need to show some serious improvement this year if the bills are gonna pay him.

  2. Bills can't afford to trade up for an RB, unless beane is going full send for a super bowl this year. Beane used the words "cheap labor" trading up for a RB is the exact opposite of that. To pay josh and the rest of our keystones we need as many rookie contracts as possible. Giving up picks and paying up for a RB would cripple beanes ability for roster construction. Not too mention there's been tons of mocks where Etienne doesn't even go rd 1.

It no longer makes any sense to draft a RB in the first round. Teams, now including the Bills, have moved to a RB by committee approach and the trend will not likely go away. As Bills fans we have been blessed with the presence of some very special RB’s over the years. I think this has made some of us nostalgic for the good old days. They’re gone.

This is not to say that the Bills did not suffer last year due to a lack of a running game threat. I believe the situation has more to do with scheme and o-line than RB.

Agree, I think the lack of speed and pass catching at RB hurt but with addition of brieda that's been addressed, but I have no issues drafting a speedy pass catching back in the late rounds either.

Liars season.  Believe and don’t read into anything.  They all lie like an adulteress.  I haven’t believed a word of any prognosticator, analyst, coach, manager or anyone else.  They all lie.

Im ok with it.  I can’t believe there is something to read into from some people.  There isn’t.  He’ll, wecluld be taking. Long snapper for what we know (not really).

Exactly, the bills are a total wild card. Beane could seek a trade up and other teams will have no idea who beane is after. The bills are in a good position.

  5. It was more of a mutual beneficial I think. The jets have absolutely no idea what they have in Darnold nearing his contract year. You go all in on him and pass on a qb, the very first pic Darnold throws the jets fan base will boo him out of the stadium cuz they will always want the new flashy pick in the draft.  Darnold needs at least a fair shot to prove himself, hes spent his nfl career with arguably the worst set of offensive weapons in the NFL for at least 10 years. Panthers aren't perfect but it's miles ahead of the jets offense right now.

  6. I still feel like if the bills are going RB at 30 it's Etienne. He's everything the bills want speed and pass catching. Just my 2 cents is if the CB or edge they want isn't there at 30 then they look at Etienne cuz he instantly makes the offense better. If the CB or edge is there they take it in a heart beat then maybe take a speedy pass catching back later rounds or just rotate breida. Either way I think Breida is the insurance if they don't get the back they want.

  7. 2020 Announcer: "Allen is pressured, he escapes the pocket, breaks 7 tackles, hes still on his feet! stiff arms the LB to the ground and picks up 5 for the first down!

2021 announcer: "Allen is pressured, he escapes the pocket, hes got breida in the flats, breida makes the catch, turns on the burners and tears off a 30 yard pick up! Man Allen is just dicing up this defense from every angle tonight"

Love this. He'll be in the rotation.

    Nice hands, great breakaway speed.

I'm concerned about his last year with the Phins. Not sure what to make of that. If we're getting Niners Breida then sign me up. He's a difference maker.

Ya it was weird that they didn't utilize him but that was a weird season for the phins they didn't even know who their QB was.

I just love not dropping the draft capitol or money on an RB, look at other massive investment RBs, there's already been rumors about guys like mcaffrey and Barkley getting traded.

Love the signing.  Don’t waste another high pick on a RB.  You can get good production from backs like Breida.

Agreed, the bills are a passing team. Not saying we shouldn't improve the run game but that 1st rounder for edge rush/ cb2 or trade back and get even more picks is the smart franchise move. Breida brings the speed and hands we lacked for little money and zero draft capitol. I love it.

I think this guy nails it.  I jumped to the conclusion that he was a kroft replacement but this might be more about improving the running game.  Especially the H-back stuff.  And for the record Hollister is a much better receiver then Smith was.  I've seen him make some great catches over the years.

Not too mention he helps the run game for little cap space. And he's definitely gonna buy into the culture in buffalo

I think it was @Hapless Bills Fan that said it here first, and then I saw Erik Turner and Greg Tompsett of Cover 1 talk about it on Twitter:

John Brown too easily got erased by aggressive press coverage last year. He too easily got erased from whole games, in general.

Seeing now how much Brown signed for, compared to how much Sanders cost, and then keeping in mind that the Bills didn't even ask Brown to take a pay cut (according to Brown)...it just seems like the Bills view Sanders as un upgrade.

In particular, as Turner pointed out: Teams started to play two-high safety zone coverage shells more and more as the year went on to force the Bills to dink and dunk their way own field. It took the offense some time to adjust, and Brown was not particularly helpful in these situations. By contrast, Sanders is more physical, a better route runner in general, and can work underneath more effectively. So while they gave up the speed and familiarity of Brown, they gained the physicality and route running of Sanders and, thus, theoretically gained the ability to more effectively operate against the two-high shells and/or to force defenses back into playing man-to-man.

TL;DR: Beane and McDermott seem to feel that Sanders is simply better than Brown, or at least more effective at doing what they need from a WR2. They replaced Brown with Sanders as a means of more effectively operating in the short and intermediate game, so that when teams go to soft zones, the Bills can more effectively counter.

Awesome info, I wasn't heart broken with smoke leaving. When he was on the feild it still felt like something wasn't right and you made it clear what that was. I wish him all the best in vegas.

  12. I'm guessing he's coming cheaper than smoke wanted to renegotiate too. He is a great route runner and I've never heard him being a problem in the locker room. I bet he will be excited to come and buy into the mentality. He not a blockbuster move by any means but hes still a good enough reciever he has to be accounted for by the defense, that's just that much more attention taken off of diggs and company.  As long as the numbers aren't too high I like the signing.

She didn't stop Beane from talking to AB..

True. Did Kim have that much decision making at that point? I honestly don't know if she did or not but the amount of publicity she's been getting lately I wouldn't be surprised if she doesn't have a serious voice in the meetings now. She's on the cover of magazines and national television.

It's the right move with that cap number. Burners don't age gracefully, and his injury history isn't likely to improve at 31. He had a great 2019.

Unfortunately I agree. I just hope the money is for keeping Allen clean. I don't wanna take a weapon from Allen and lose a keystone on the Oline and expect Allen to replicate an mvp runner up season.

That's ridiculous to list him first.  First of all, the Bills can part ways with him this year for a $4M cap hit.  Second they disagree with Overthecap on the guarantees, with B/R saying $15.25 ("more than half") of the contract guaranteed while OTC basically says we're free of guaranteed money after what was paid out last year, $13.25M ($4M signing bonus still on the books).

Second, while he didn't contribute as the Bills had hoped, he did play in 15 games + 3 playoffs and contribute 6 sacks, 9 QB hits, 4 passes defensed, a forced fumble, and 40 tackles.

That's actually better production than Beasley, Fowler, Clowney etc.

Completely agree, I think it was more for the surprise factor to not put clowney or hooper first as probably most people thought they would be.

again your off topic. we are just discussing drafts. why is this so hard for you?

How is talking about where we need to  improve the team through the draft and where we haven't improved through the draft off topic from a thread called "draft success"? I apologize if I confused you in some way.

so many holes? Most of the holes you are referring to are not holes, just upgrades needed.

As a whole, this team is in a better place with this GM.  but the holes you are referring to is not the topic at hand. The topic at hand is how good he has drafted the last 4 years. lets not loose sight of that.

I'm actually a fan of beanes drafts I'm just stating that people will bring up the fact we might spend 3 2nd round picks on rbs.  When we could have done alot elsewhere with three 2nd round picks.

And you say we don't have holes, but the rest of the nfl sees our RB squad as one of the worst in the league. Our CB2 situation is not ideal. Our edge rush is not good enough. And we are probably losing Milano. Possibly lose smoke. Beane is a good GM and I trust him to make it work. But to say we just need "upgrades" is being in denial.

  18. I think its the same topic as Allen. Is Dak mahomes? No. Is josh mahomes? Close but not yet. Getting close to mahomes money isn't graded by if your on mahomes level anymore. The nfl is a passing league, you don't win without an elite passer. Contracts aren't based on if your as good as mahomes, its "where would you be without me" Can the cowboys find another Dak in FA? No. Can you get Dak production in the draft if your not top 5 pick? Rarely. Imagine if you don't pay Allen the contract he wants and he walks. Where do you even start? Hope for that once in a decade watson trade? Dak will get paid by someone and so will josh.
