  1. A MAJOR upgrade on the OL. We were a bottom 5 unit last year. That just not gonna get us a Lombardi Trophy. Signing McGovern doesn't significantly change that ranking. We need to do MUCH more either in FA or the draft. If we don't pick OL in round 1, I'm writing off any realistic chance to leapfrog KC and Cincinnati. In fact, we may drop below 3rd best team in the AFC. If that happens, it will have a very negative affect on this team's morale in the future. That pummeling by the Bengals already took its toll on how this team is perceived.

  2. I agree that Motor is above average. He's very shifty, has good vision and balance, but his receiving skills and speed hold him back. If he could run a 4.4 and had bigger, softer hands, he'd be elite. I'd like either him, J Williams or B Robinson. The problem with our run game has long been the OL. McGovern is an average pass protector, but a very poor run blocker. I fear the rest of the OL will remain unchanged. If I were a FA RB, I don't think Buffalo would be a team I'd target in FA. I hope Cook improves in year 2, but he'll never be a workhorse type or a between the Tackles runner. I don't honestly see much of a role for Hines outside KR and I expect Hasty to win the PR job. I think that McDermott's relatively little experience working with offense as a former S and DC is the main reason that he and Beane continually sell the OL short of talent. Most other top teams have significantly better blocking and running, especially KC and Cincinnati. I think it's holding us back and placing too much pressure on Josh to carry the offense. This, in turn, has been one reason why he's turned the ball over so much.

  3. Who's this "solid starter at G" you speak of? McGovern? Seriously?

Unfortunately I can't say we've improved. We signed another meh guard, and now have a huge hole at MLB. I'm starting to lose a little bit of confidence with Beane in the draft. We are now faced with the following holes. Beane needs to hit the draft out of the park, or we will start to regress.

    Top draft needs

    1. MLB
    2. WR2, with WR1 upside to replace Diggs in a few years.
    3. Interior lineman (upgrade G position with potential to replace Mitch in 2-3 years)
    4. Safety (Hyde coming back from major injury, and Poyat battled injury all year. They are both getting up there in age)
    5. DT to replace Oliver, as this is his last year as a Bill.

Not expecting us to sign Wagner, but it would be a huge get. As it stands now, we go into the draft with a desperate need. Hard to stick with BPA. If we do go LB early, let's please go for a guy with elite instincts over elite athleticism.

Upgrading the IOL and RT remains the biggest need by far.

  4. We've done nothing to improve one of the worst OL's in the NFL so far. Any quality OL would be huge at this point. We're desperate.

IIRC, Collins can also bump inside to guard if Brown beats him out at RT or if Morse gets injured and Bates needs to move to center.

There's no way Brown could beat him out unless Collins gets injured or dies.

  5. Orlando Brown please. I think going G with our 1st pick would also be a huge benefit since neither Bates nor McGovern are really starters. We should definitely be looking to upgrade the IOL. I can't believe how much we're paying McGovern either. We did the same thing with Star. Why do we keep signing below average linemen and overpaying them? It's really frustrating.

  6. Orlando Brown is still available, he's only 27 and we've just cleared up more than $30 million in cap space. If we're serious about winning the SB, we need to be talking to him instead of always trying gto get by with discount O Linemen posing as starters. OB could play on either side or even at G and be a HUGE upgrade over any OL currently on our roster. Dawkins is the only quality starter we have and maybe Morse, but Mitch's performance did slip a bit last year. Perhaps if he had better talent around him he would again be an above average Center. Besides, I'm concerned for his health. Concussions can have very serious lifelong consequences. Just ask Jim McMahon.

  7. This is such a racket -- All this nonsense about how taxpayers have to fork over millions that would be far better spent in the community for education, infrastructure or healthcare. The owners keep insisting on new stadiums and arenas when there's nothing wrong with the current one. It's a joke. We use office buildings on a far more regular basis and for decades longer, but no one thinks twice about hundreds of millions wasted on a ballpark to replace another perfectly good one. SMH... Since 1990, American cities have blown about $30 billion on these sports arenas. There may be 1 or 2 that needed to be replaced, but hardly any more than that.

  8. I don't see any signings coming that really move the needle. No skill player will give us the full measure of his potential impact if the OL isn't fixed and most of the best OL FA's were quickly signed while we snoozer. I hope Beane has some magic up his sleeve on draft day. My concern there is that rookie OL might take time to develop and we'll waste another year of Allen in his prime.

He was a good pass blocker in Dallas

He was an average pass blocker in Dallas and a terrible run blocker. I pray we don't have to play him. I'll say this for him however. He's no worse than Bates. If he's a starter along with Morse and Brown, we will again have a bottom 6 OL. I guess this comes from having a defensive HC. OBD just doesn't see any value in a good OL apparently. Both McGovern and Bates should be backups.

You want to give Orlando brown 80million or something?
Look at the OL in KC, Philly, Cincinnati. Look at the OL's the Patriots gave Brady. It matters. It helps a lot. People don't think it matters because OLinemen don't score TD's (except Doyle), but skill players don't score either if the guys up front don't do their job. I don't know what Orlando Brown will command after not living up to expectations in KC and it doesn't have to be him specifically, but we will need to spend to upgrade the OL. High caliber OL like getting paid too. I hope they aren't paying this guy starter money. If not, OK, but McGovern and Bates as starting G's doesn't inspire confidence. He's not the worst, but I believe we have to aim higher if we want to win a SB.
Why is it so wrong to want a guy like Wyatt Teller or Joe Thuney?

  11. He's good, but not great. His greatest asset by far is ball security. Dude never fumbles. In Madden, his "CAR" rating (Holding on to the rock) is an exceptional 97 out of a possible 99. Heck ya. He's similar to Moss, but measurably better. We will have many needs on draft day and the RB class in both FA and this draft class is strong, but he definitely fits the mold of what our offense needs. We'll see what route Beane takes. Now add at least 2 BIG upgrades on the OL and we're in business.

  12. Money for what? Start earning what you're already being paid first.

I'm fine with letting him walk. Edmunds. Oliver, etc are exactly the type of players who you end up overpaying and regret not replacing them with someone a quarter of the cost who can produce 85% of what they can.

Agreed, but I'd rather spend the same as what we're paying Oliver and get sometimes more disruptive. 3-Tech is nearly as important as DE IMO. Oliver is a shade above average.
