This makes a lot of sense.   I think the Bills are happy where they are right now, and they want to see how all the questions get answered.

What questions?  Will Shakir be more productive?  Will Kincaid be more productive?  Will Samuel be more productive?   Will Coleman pay early dividends?   Will MVS be at least as good as he has been over his career?  Will Claypool resurrect himself?

If enough of those questions get answered positively, the Bills won't need help.   But if there aren't enough positive answers, Beane will be shopping.  I've been one to suggest that there might be a post-June 1 trade with the 49ers, but one of the problems with that from the 49ers' point of view is they lose a talent for the entire season and they don't get anything in return until the 2025 draft.  Also, they don't know yet how their rookies are fitting in.  If it's a mid-season, trade deadline deal, that's better for them.  If their rookie is productive, they know they can afford to lose one of their stars, and the 2025 draft is that much closer.

I think there's going to be a lot of excitement in Highmark this fall.  The first time Coleman catches the ball with running room, it's going to be fun.  And Samuel too.  I actually think that Coleman, Samuel, Shakir, MVS (or Claypool) will be better than Diggs, Davis, Shakir.

Maybe mid season like the Douglas trade.  I think for the most part they like Shakir, Samuel and Coleman enough as a core to roll with it.  The other wrs in the room are role players.

Honestly, the WR debates remind me a lot of the MLB debates from last off season. You both hit the nail on the head, I think, when you say they like what they have for now. There are questions from the outside for sure. But I have to believe from what I've seen them do in the past that they aren't just throwing 💩 at the wall hoping it sticks. There is a plan and I'm sure the plan is based around what Joe Brady believes he can get from this group. I'm really looking forward to seeing how it shakes out. I do think at least one or two of these cast of WRs steps up.

Right after the draft , I thought Beane must be looking to next year possibly for a 1A or 1b.

He will be in a better financial position , and still have good enough draft equity to go for something juicy

But this season he is going to let it shake out and let Brady figure the details. McBeanes went bigger it seems in the WR.

    Thats a change in philosophy.

     next year perhaps

But i have faith that Bills will be very competitive offensively this season right into the playoffs.

Its likely a slightly better team overall than last year

and we failed cuz injury killed Bills Defense late in the season. and coaching on both sides

    Go Keon !!

I think if anything we see a FA move next year if needed at WR. I don't see them taking a pass catcher with their first overall pick for a third straight year. Especially if Coleman has a season that is comparable to Kincaid's rookie year last season. I think as long as Coleman shows progress they "embrace the growth mindset".

Now, if things start slowly and Coleman has little to no impact early or there are injuries..I CAN see Beane spending one of those 2nd rounders on a WR near the trade deadline...but that's another conversation for another day lol.

I hope he shows up so pissed off from his well-deserved humbling that the Bills can't keep him off the field.

Yeah, I never get the idea of rooting for players that are on the Bills roster to fail from people that are supposed to be fans of the team. Those people would rather "be right" than see the success of others that would add to the success of the team. There's a distinct difference IMO between "thinking" he could be an early cut and "hoping" for it.

If Claypool had signed with the Chiefs, we would’ve collectively shrugged that off and not expected anything from him. But sign with the Bills? We’re all hoping against hope he becomes a main contributor. Perspective. Funny how that works.

I do agree that if Claypool would have signed with the Chiefs there would be a group that laughed about it and shrugged.

There would also be a group saying "Andy will get him open and productive and he's finally got a real QB in Mahomes...he's going to be a weapon".

It's the same thing here really. Some are high on the potential that if he recommits to football he can be a good weapon. And he can be based on his production in his first 2 seasons. So it's not that far fetched.

And some here are rolling their eyes saying it was a wasted move and the dude is hopeless. And that could be as well based on his last 2 years.

In any event, the dude has a Buffalo on his helmet for the moment. I'm going to sit back, watch how the process plays out for him and hope that Claypool figures it out and can be productive.

  5. There are a lot of rules that can be tweaked, improved, eliminated ect.

The one thing I would change when it comes to rules is the enforcement of the rules themselves. Many of the rules are subjective and depend on the judgement call of the refs. And I get the "human element" of it all and that they can only see what they see. They have to see it in real time and at real speed with 1,000, things happening all around them. It's a much tougher job than Joe Fan wants to admit. However, in a day where the NFL fines players every week for miniscule things such as blocking...the errors made weekly by the officials go by without them being held accountable.

But we do have the technology now to assist them. And that's what I think they should do. There should be an Electric Official assigned every game to call obvious penalties, overrule the bad calls and things like that.

Furthermore, when there is a replay I wish the NFL would do what the XFL (or maybe it was one of the other "spring leagues" did...they all kinda blend together) and show the replay official in the booth with live audio so we can hear what they are doing/saying in the review process.

I would offer that Buffalo is even LESS optimal to host the draft then they are a Super Bowl.  Based on the number of attendees just in Detroit this year - that's way more people than would be in town for the Super Bowl, so where are they all going to stay?

I have a pull out couch and a camper. We're covered.

Agree about O'Cyrus and that having him solidify RG did help Brown a lot

I'm a bit concerned about Brown after learning that he had shoulder surgery in the off-season.  I just hope the rehab won't interfere with him conditioning and strength training for the season.

Also concerned about the David Edwards/Conner McGovern plan at LG and C, but the Bills DO have a couple potential alternatives at C on the roster

I share your concern with Brown. First Id heard that he had surgery was yesterday and I immediately thought of how he looked when he didn't have an off-season program a couple years before. Hopefully it's just precautions that kept him from participating. Anyone know if he was swinging a bat at the Micah Hyde softball game?

What I'm most concerned about with Brown is that if he can't go or he doesn't play well because of the altered off season is his backups to me are a big bag of bleh.

Beane made a point around the draft when discussing Collins that they see him at RT depth and then maybe some guard. And I really like Ryan Van Demark...on the left side. He didn't look great in preseason when they had him at RT. Now maybe a year past that he's improved there and is serviceable but we won't know til we know.

As you said at C at least there are some options if McGovern struggles. I think Beane grabbing one of if not the best pure C in the draft is a signal that they aren't really sold on one of either McGovern at C or Edwards at LG. I think over the long term Edwards is a placeholder on the OL and we eventually see McGovern shifted back to LG and the rook at C. But if that happens this year or next...who knows.

  8. Torrence was the guy I wanted before last draft. I was delighted he fell to us in the second round.

For a rookie, he looked really good. And I think having a solid RG helped Spencer Brown as the season went on and communication between the two got better. They were beaten on stunts a fair amount, especially early on in the season.

I think more reps with Brown will make them pretty solid for this year.

  9. Statistically, I believe Josh will be Josh year in and year out. But there are things in play that could alter his production a bit.

    - The subtraction of Gabe Davis. No secret that for multiple reasons, Allen has had a much higher INT% when targeting him. Plus the numerous time we saw last year that they just were not on the same page.

    - The addition of Joe Brady. There are a lot of things we still don't know about Brady. But Brady did seem to simplify things quite a bit in limited time last year. I do think that Allen may end up with some fewer passes this season. That's not necessarily a bad thing.

    - I expect the additions of Coleman and Davis in the draft along with a year 2 Kincaid and possibly a healthy Knox will hopefully reduce the importance of Allen in the red zone running the ball. I don't see him even near the amount of TDs rushing he had last year.

    - Decision making. This is where Brady is another factor. Just the different ways Josh goes through his progressions and where his eyes are at the start of a play. Add in the fact he should be able to cycle through faster without giving an extra second to look at Diggs before moving on.

I'm thinking by the end of the year he has roughly the same passing numbers with reduced rushing output. But I believe the story will be how the "turnover machine" cut his INTs in half.

    Thanks for the heads up.

I'm a new fan of the Bills and am eager to learn their history

Here's a spoiler alert. A lot of heartbreak. Some numb feelings. Then more heartbreaking losses.

And even now as I've seen Norwood's infamous kick at least 200 times in my lifetime...I still watch with the insane hope that it goes through the uprights.

  11. Looking over the FA lost and it's not stocked full of difference makers...as can be expected this time of year. A few names I'm looking at that could be in the mix. I'm looking at the EDGE position as even with the rookie I feel like it's still a spot that could use a boost.

Shaq Lawson- an obvious choice. Solid yet unspectacular. But they know what they would be getting.

Carl Lawson- Could have something left in the tank after being mothballed by the Jets last year. Feel like he's got something to prove... especially if he were to line up against the Jets.

Emmanuel Ogbah- Buffalo has shown interest in him in the past. Could they do what they did with John Brown and others and circle back to grab him at a value?

Jerry Hughes- 12 sacks over the last 2 years in Houston. Would maybe be good as a rotational rusher.

not gonna read all that, but congratulations, or sorry that happened to you

So you can accurately quote a line from Hamlet, however can't come up with anything original and use an overstated very old and boring meme punchline.  Here's a bit fresher one you can have for free.

Guys like you are the reason they put chairs next to the beds in hotel rooms.

See, a bit more style to that one. You're welcome.

you're the one who came in to a thread to whine about the thread.

Not whining at all. Said how much I enjoy these threads. They are seriously some of the best unintentional comedy on the board in my view. This due in large part to some being very overly sensitive. For proof, see the post I quoted in this reply.

You are after all the one who chooses to whine about what you perceived as whining on something I wrote a day or two ago. The hypocrisy is blinding.

I know Reid Ferguson is one of the better long snappers in the NFL.  But I have read reports SVPG is best long snapper some scouts have ever seen.  Taking both the salary cap and roster spots into consideration, could Reid be a surprise cut?

No. There's a reason why LS is its own roster spot.

Here's the thing. Let's say things stay where some think they will and McGovern is the starting C. SVGP is the likely backup. What happens if McGovern gets hurt? SVGP is now starting. You do not want your LS exposed to injury risk over the course of a game...so chances are they would need to sub him out on STs. It's not a position that just anyone can do... especially with the variance of snap distance between a punt and FG/EP. Throw into that on the FG team it has to be an expert snap each time into a small window with a kneeling down target. These things take reps, practice and skill. Ferguson is one of the best in the game.

We've seen games (even playoff games) decided by a substitute snapper.

Ok. So here's the question. You're accused of a crime and need a set of lawyers to help you do you pick Marcia Clark and Chris Darden or 2 random TBD lawyers? Maybe I should do a poll?
