  1. Not technically a show, but a clip showing Mark Hamill Himself explaining the Force to the actor doing the motion capture stuff for the Jedi: Survivor video game. “You’re not playin’ baseball!” 😄😆

So great to see MH involved in SW in doing the Mandalorian cameos, etc. after he had vocalized frustrations with how Luke was used in the sequels. I think at one point it was being reported that he was ‘done with SW.’ Here’s hoping the new people in charge — Dave Filoni has complete creative control as of ~ last year — continue to include him and use Luke wisely. Seeing him in the announced post-sequel ‘Rey rebuilds the order’ movie would be fantastic to give him better plot & writing to work with, if only as a Force ghost.

  2. I’m just wondering if it would be OK to start an ongoing thread where folks here could post to when they are seeking prayers / thoughts and such? Rather than them popping up separately here on OTW?

My dad is currently 12 minutes on the operating table for a triple bypass. This has all been kinda shocking over the last few days when he first had the chest pain on Monday evening. He’s always been like Superman for us, but even in his “better shape than most people half your age” condition… Superman is facing a tough fight here with the surgery and a projected 6 month recovery.

  3. Per Paul Lukas’s Uni Watch page:

    Quote

Ugh — hate the way the new collar interrupts the striping. Somewhat incredibly, this will be the fifth different collar/striping treatment the Bills have had since switching to their current uniform set in 2011.

Though Lukas doesn’t mention it here as he does for several other teams, the new template also seems to push the BILLS chest wordmark down lower due to the collar change. (I’m not a fan of these wordmarks, small or large. But at least we don’t have BUFFALO emblazoned across the chest like the recent ARIZONA reveal. Act like you’re in the big league, not some D-3 team that feels they need to remind everyone what ass-crack part of the country they’re located in.) So we’re back to a bit of the incomplete toilet seat collar, albeit slightly less obnoxious in width than last time.

I share the SMH 🤦‍♂️ about so many collar styles — there is a photo set showing the line-up — in the course of 10 years since the change from the navy monstrosities. IMO, it would be a better look to just go with a same color as the jersey collar, like with the 64-65 throwback sets, rather than something that changes so often with the whims of Nike design.

There’s also curiously been no word yet about a possible Kelly-era red helmet throwback set. A couple-few  teams that didn’t have enough time after the league dropped the one-shell rule last June have announced this offseason they’ll be adding throwbacks / alternates using a second helmet color.

HOW many threads have there been about Brady & Giselle and his baby-momma Bridget Moynihan?

Sports is entertainment & celebrity and I’m not going to say I like it, but American media & society is obsessed with celebrity, both in building them up… and tearing them down.

This is literally the first I’ve heard about this. Respect to the Buffalo media for not running with it if there is any There there. But if / as rumors swirl more, some may be driven to reporting it.

  5. A vocal set of Star Wars “fans” just love to crap on the sequels and Daisy Ridley, but I for one (for the most part, but Ruin Johnson did really screw things up pretty bad) enjoyed them. Watching some of the deleted scenes, including Luke’s third lesson that didn’t make it in 🙄😠, helped. Twenty minutes of Canto Bight that was entirely pointless but he skimped on Luke and Jedi training.

So happy that she’s getting another turn at it and this time with Dave Filoni now at the full creative controls for all of SW. Better writing, better & more cohesive plot, and now filming in The Volume makes so many more things possible on budget.

(I dunno if Favreau will have much input, as he seems to enjoy / focus on the Mando stuff.)

You realize Ralph Wilson was a AFL champion back to back in years 4 and 5 from a start up Buffalo Bills franchise in 1964 and 1965. Also Ralph Wilson protected the Buffalo community more he had a little bit more of a heart compared to Terry Pegula. When has Terry Pegula had a press conference about the new Buffalo Bills stadium? If he believes the new Bills stadium is so wonderful why is he hiding behind lawyers? Look at the Kansas City Royals stadium that opened in 1973. The Kansas City Royals owner was talking about the new Royals stadium with pride it’s on YouTube 1972 and 1973 Kansas City Royals highlight film. Where is Terry Pegula not his lawyers and public relations where is Terry Pegula? He needs to own this new Bills stadium be accountable put your name on it pose for pictures answer the questions directly from the Buffalo media why this or why that in his own words. Not the Buffalo Bills public relations people Terry Pegula that is least he can do for $850 million dollars. Ralph Wilson was a man remember that he didn’t hide from anyone. Same with Seymour and Norty Knox they were men that spoke for themselves not hiding behind a team of lawyers and public relations people. Love him or hate him Ralph Wilson was a man who spoke for himself. Ralph Wilson at least gave interviews with the local media explaining the Bills ownership side. Terry Pegula never faces the music or ever takes any accountability for anything with the Buffalo Bills or the Buffalo Sabres which is sad in my opinion. Go Bills! Go Sabres! Let’s Go Buffalo

You’ve obviously never seen a Terry P. interview before. The family has been occupied for the last almost year with Kim’s condition following the cardiac event. She was the public face to the franchise and if she were able would have been doing a presser / presentation / etc. They have seemingly hired someone to do her former job and Ron R. seems to be the point person for stadium issues.

Terry belongs on the background. You don’t want him at a microphone.

  7. I’ve been listening to a bunch of the Red Sox games on my stereo radio for the past 5-6 years. It’s kinda nice to experience it like that / how most people used to / nostalgically.

Pretty ridiculous about all the blackout stuff, especially when it was the COVID times. They just refuse to accept that many sports have become better on TV. Go to the stadium and you’re looking at a small screen or the Jumbotron to be able to see anything from a lot of seats. They can’t offer a team’s full slate? Our regional network NESN has started an online streaming option for cord cutters (I’ve been OTA antenna-only for 20+ years now), but it’s a ridiculous price $50 per month iirc. For one channel. That’s not what a la carte pricing was ever dreamed as by anyone other than a greedy network. So screw that.

Other than the odd game on FOX or ESPN+ (which are often blacked out, even if it’s a sold out game vs the NYY), if I do want to actually watch, I’ll visit a Reddit page.

Interesting shot at the National Anthem, I must say. What the hay?

Yeah, that was kinda brutal. The UM guy and FAU cheerleader were the only ones who could carry a tune.

But at least they did sing it with an upward whatever it’s called on the “that our flag Was STILL THERE!!!” line. It kills me when people take steps down on that. That’s supposed to be sung with exuberance, and most singers make it sound like a death dirge.

  9. I don’t get to watch them much during the regular season, but when it’s tourney time…. It’s just been such a treat to see my alma mater team playing great 🏀 when it matters most, and for them to be so successful since I started attending there in ‘99. I’m hoping to go to campus on Monday night to the watch party at Gampel, along with a friend who designed the old 80s-90s UConn logo and sculpted the Husky statue outside of the arena. I mean, I’m not much one for big crowds, but it would be nice to experience it once in my life.

I have some second cousins on FB who live in San Diego and who’ve been posting about SDSU through the tourney.

I think this will help the defense, but it worries me as McD is not known as a strong in-game head coach.  Particularly on things like challenges and using timeouts.

I hope there is someone in his ear that he can trust that will alert him to stuff like this.

I kinda figured he would but i atleast hope he hires a "DC" just to help get prepared and to be his eyes in the sky

We did bring in Al Holcomb as a Senior Defensive Asst in early-mid Feb. who had been a DC before. That was the move that told me Frazier was on the outs. Might be that he will serve as McD’s defensive aide-de-camp the way Bienemy was OC to Reid, taking on DCish duties during the week, but the playcalling will be McD.

I seem to recall McD did his Carolina DCing from the booth where he could see the field better. Doubt he can really do that as HC. Maybe the new technology stuff / tablets / etc.  mitigates this?

  11. Must’ve missed this when it first appeared. Nice thread idea and some great stuff.

Two Kelly-era jerseys, one signed by the man himself in ‘95(?). The numbers came off in the wash on the other (and I spent about 3 years here and there picking out the vinyl of what remained) and I ordered a twill set on eBay with my own name (because I can’t be traded or cut, probably) and favorite number. I learned how to sew on my dear departed mum’s 1960s Singer machine and it came out quite nicely. Otherwise, an elite throwback from the Bills store again with my own name. And the past few months I’ve finally gotten around to getting the older style authentic Riddell VSR4 helmets. They seem to be disappearing from the marketplace and I actually had to get Jets ‘73-‘77 throwback for the white ones and ordered a white facemask and vinyl stripes & decals on the eBay. Socks of multiple kinds. A game-used short / pants set from the team surplus sale at Dave & Adams a few years ago. I don’t know if I’m going to do a full mannequin because I’m not sure I want to be that guy, or if I just set something up to look like a locker.

Note: I blurred out my last name on the nameplates so all you rapscallions won’t know my secret identity and come rob me 😉.

I also have a Kelly autographed 8x10 gotten in person at the same time as the jersey auto, a Kelly rookie card, and a little plaque of wood and leather I made in a high school art class with the logo. Those are in the garage bonus room but I’m not going over there right now 🌧️.

The McKittrick hate runs deep at TBD.  I'll never understand why.

Hate is a strong word. Exasperation might be more apt. He stepped up in a couple of games in the past few years and he’s got a boisterous personality. That’s nowhere enough to keep him around.

IMO, he single-handedly lost us the @Miami game this past season. Josh got him the ball at what, the 30 or so with the seconds ticking down. McK decides to juke / dance at the CB for 2-3 more yards rather than try to go out of bounds or just hit the turf and give up the tackle in exchange for what was about 4-5 seconds. We tried to line up for another snap, time JUST ran out before the snap, and Ken Dorsey became a meme throwing his stuff around in the booth in a rage. They didn’t say anything in the presser or anything, but McK cost us a FG attempt to win it (we lost 21-19) that is very makable for Bass. I don’t remember him owning up to it and I don’t think he saw his juking in that moment as a / the problem. Situational awareness just isn’t there.

The only thing I truly understand about comp picks is that Buffalo never gets anything other than a 7th and it only happens every 17 years like the cicada life cycle.

That is what I hate so dang much about Facebook and losing your account.

Glad you were able to get it back, AR. And Gugny FTW!

Have those been converted to “Remembering…” if that’s possible? IIRC, one had to select a few people who’d have authorization to do that conversion.

I use it mostly to stay in touch with family (I have soooo many cousins! Both parents were among eight kids) and actual friends. And some groups, like a town page for goings-on since the death of newspapers. … Not perfect by ANY means.

I’ve had friend requests from new pages of deceased relatives. And some from older relatives who seem to create a new account every month. It’s just sick that some people have to ruin things with the same old lowbrow scams of ‘Help me, I’m in trouble and need some money.’ and it’s puzzling to me because you’d think the only people who might fall for this are people who would also have ZERO idea how to transfer such money online.

Because having good special teams usually won’t win you a game, but bad special teams play can often lose you a game. The tighter the game is the more influence special teams has with turnovers, field position, and momentum. Poor jammers or up backs can lead to turnovers, bad gunners can lead to big returns, bad holders lead to missed field goals, etc. There’s a reason why guys like Taiwan Jones and Kumerow make rosters every year.

To cough the ball up at the 2 yard line in his ONLY job? Taiwan should have kissed Josh & Gabe on the feet for saving his @— on the next play with a 98-yard TD. There was another major flub he made on ST this season too, but it eludes me rn.

T Jones is getting quite long in the tooth (34? 35?) and his play does not justify a vital roster spot. Keeping Kumerow on the roster when injured meant we lost Hodgins… who may or may not be a steal for Daboll & Schoen / NYG… and then we were forced to scrounge up John Brown & Beasley late in the year.

ST is important and all that jazz… but… not as much as it once was.

not me. But my daughter attended high school with the first Asian character in the Star Wars movie franchise.

Professionally she uses her full name Kelly Marie Tran. But back then she was just Kelly Tran. The character is Rose Tico. She was a very sweet girl and involved in drama and choir with my daughter.

She got a lot of crap from “fans” even tho she wasn’t the one who wrote the dialogue / story or the spacecraft charge against Kylo Ren that was like 400 feet but lasted 10 minutes. I hesitate to say that Rian Johnson ruined the sequels, but… he did them no favors.

I had a gen-ed class at the U where I sat next to Sue Bird; most of the rest of the women’s team was also in the class, they won the national championship. Passed by many of the athletes at the time but just walked by, they were just trying to do school too. … Childhood best friend has been in several movies and shows. Not BIG parts, but decent, including scenes with ScarJo and Tom Cruise. Cool to see someone you know on the big screen.
