I don't disagree with the bolded, at all. I disagree with the idea that it is that or rebuild. If they pay Carr $40m AAV then the first couple of years it is hard to put the team around him of sufficient strength. You win with these guys towards the end of their contracts. Stafford is in the penultimate year or his deal. Carr took the Raiders to the playoffs in the penultimate year of his deal. But the idea that it is better to just try and lose.... I mean eventually you have to be trying to win and Carr is a guy who it easy to try and move on from and end up in a worse spot.

Well see how the Raiders approach it.

Yea if all you are doing is numbers scouting. Andy Dalton was throwing to AJ Green, Marvin Jones and Mohammed Sanu. Who are the best receivers Carr has thrown to?

As for building a team around him, yea the first couple of years of a new contract for a 2nd tier guy like Carr it becomes tricky. But by year 3 with the QB inflation he will be good value against an ever increasing cap.

Lets just say...they pay Carr 40 million bucks...

They need to add some real talent to make this team competitive.

The best move for the franchise would be to say...sign Davante Adams. Which will end up being another 30 million plus.

70 million in the hole and thats the best move they can make for the team to maybe actually win a playoff game.

Does Carr and Adams make them a real contender at a combined 80mil a year? Thats what 40% of their salary cap?

Maybe they try and make a run for one year and go all in. They have to copy the rams strategy or else they wont win with Carr. Simple as that my friend.

Carr is way, way better than Tyrod. It isn't even close. He is a tier above Dalton too. Carr is a borderline top 10 guy. I have him 10th or 11th in the league.

I think hes in the same Tier as Dalton when Dalton was at his best. A little better than average.

Daltons better years were just as good as Carr's. I think its safe to say we are about as near as Carr's ceiling as we are gonna get.

QB 11 doesnt cut it with that roster. If you pay him 40 million he wont get the team he needs around him.

The teams are all part owners of the league. The league being watchable absolutley matters.

So hypothetically....the Bills should be ok with Tyrod for the rest of his career because it keeps the league competitive and makes them money.

Sorry man, i just dont agree with keeping a mid tier QB around.

How many years did Dalton throw away for the Bengals? Tannehill? These arent superbowl winning QBs. These teams needed to move on from them years before they did.

But what if you don't? What if you draft a bust? Or a game manager guy who is less than Carr... say Baker or Garoppolo? It seems to me that your argument is you are either a top 5 or 6 Superbowl team or you should try to lose.

The league would be utterly unwatchable if that was the case.

For an NFL team being watchable doesnt mean jack. Winning a superbowl is the goal.

There are two ways to win a superbowl nowadays. Get an elite qb or get an elite team. Most likely having both wins it.

Raiders have neither and will not even be a contender with carr unless they build a great team around him. 40 million for a guy who isnt the main piece of a superbowl team is not worth it.

The market is bonkers. I agree with that. It doesn't distinguish enough between elite and good. But the difference between good and not good is so stark that I don't think dumping good because you want great is wise.

It really, really isn't. Do people foget what 17 years of suck felt like?

how many of those years did we end up with a top 5 pick? 3?

If you can be horrible and get a top 3 pick 2-3 years in a row...you can turn it around a lot quicker.

I agree he probably isn't a Superbowl Quarterback. But the reality is top 12 - Derek Carr level - Quarterback play is not easy. You could spin the wheel and end up worse.

I think this "you have a top 5 guy or should just throw everything in the bin and spin the wheel" approach is utter nonsense.

I think its better than being in wildcard limbo for the next 10 years.

  8. Ive always been of the notion there is corruption in every aspect of life.

Starting from the top. World leaders are easily swayed by money.

NFL wouldnt be any different. If the Bengals and Niners draw garbage ratings you bet your bottom dollar they will try to nudge them away from another repeat.

Ha.  Well, yeah, actually - I do.

I think there was a bit too much "buzz" about Flores to the Giants for it to be without foundation.  I think someone in the Giants organization was impressed by what Flores did with the Dolphins despite the unsettled QB situation, and thought he would be a great HC hire (maybe Mara?)

I also think once they decided to hire the GM first, assuming the GM stipulated for reasonable GM things, it became a foregone conclusion that "Whoever Schoen wants, Schoen gets" and his first choice wasn't Flores.

I think one reason Flores is so very angry right now is that he feels bait-n-switched - he thought he was a serious candidate, and he was, until he wasn't.

Sure it could be a case where GM got the freedom to get his HC. So Schoen got the guy he wanted.

This is where the Rooney rule makes minorities even more frustrated. The NFL forced the Giants to "check the box" for the rule.

The NFL needs to come up with something better than the current rule.

  10. The idea of the rule is good intentioned. It does give Minority coaches a shot to crush an interview and sway a GM.

Giants knew they wanted Daboll. They needed someone to work with Daniel Jones and give the Giants clarity on Jones' future with the team.

You think the Giants want another Fitz/Tua headache on their hands with Flores?

  11. I feel like Josh and Mahomes got that treatment this year.

Tampa gave away the blueprint to beating Mahomes. Josh Allen is a similar QB, so teams did the same thing to him.

It took him a while to get used to it...but we all saw him overcome the soft defense.

The only thing that I think slows us down next year is getting used to and using this new offensive scheme effectively.
