Pretty clear that Beane learned nothing over the last few years. He is still not willing to make real, dramatic, positive changes in the O Line.
More mediocrity or worse, as is the case here.
Love the Bills, but losing faith for the first time that this GM will lead them to a championship.
He can't see what is right of front of us--the Bills need to upgrade their offensive line, and offense, in a dramatic way this off season.
While I like the signing of McGovern, the lack of any significant movement on the O-Line and on a high caliber wide out, and a new linebacker, are all very discouraging.
Maybe he should have thought into the future a bit before shelling out huge guaranteed bucks for a 32 year old linebacker, clearly on the decline? Could have signed two high level starting O lineman for that money, players that would have could have helped the Bills take the next step.
It’s March

More competition the better on the O line. I liked Bates a lot at the end of 2021 at LG. But he seems very so so last year at RG. What kind of money do you think Edwards is worth?
Under 2 million

This is a guy coming to be a part of an explosive offense and taking less to do so, to reset his market next year. This is the Josh Allen affect. When people complain that these signings don’t happen, well here it is. It’s amazing and the price he signed for is shocking really.
Probably more like there weren’t any big offers so go to a good team effect.

Veteran depth that might be cheap, he was on my list before free agency started and have no issues bringing him in.
He’s been solid overall. Still only 26 years old.

But, but, but I thought that we already lost the comp pick!! I read it right here!
If Singletarys contract qualifies for comp formula Bills back on the negative side and will get a 3rd

omg what a waste why didn’t we sign Orlando Brown to 8 billion dollars!??! Beane asleep again

Is that a dig. You watch the games or go play golf. If he's right then the Bills ride Allen til everyone blames him for not being able to carry all the way.. don't have a different opinion with those people
It’s not a dig it’s a fact. It’s virtually impossible to have logical conversations with people nowadays.

Yes, I am aware of your opinion. We differ. No point in endless back-and-forth. The reality will be resolved on the playing field. Certainly, it would be better for the Bills if I am right.
You can’t have a differing opinion that other people these days.. on any topic

We could take a TE at 27 too since we have not much behind Knox.
They could but i don’t see the value in a #2 tight end that high in the draft. Especially in this offense when they don’t use the one they paid 10 million to.

Reach in the 1st
Most reports are there’s only about 15-17 players with actual 1st round grades. So taking a player graded early round 2 at 27 isn’t a reach
-
Harty > McKenzie
Sherfield > Kumerow
Harris > Singletary
Not earth shattering moves but all are upgrades. I don’t think this takes them out of the running for WR at 27

It does matter. We're talking about a free top 100 pick. Signing an injury ridden RB with a limited skill set to a one year deal is not worth losing that pick. We could have signed Elliott to play the same role, or just drafted one on day three like most teams do for that skill set.
Even if you're correct that we would have had to spend that 3rd round pick on a RB (although I will mention this obviously isn't inherently true), there's a big difference between a cost controlled RB on a rookie deal and a one year veteran.
Let's be real. A one season rental of almost any RB is not worth a 3rd round pick. It's arguable that not a single RB is worth that trade off. For Damien Harris the suggestion is laughable.
You don’t even know if Harris contract will even qualify for the comp formula. Calm down

And, do we care more about a potential 3rd round comp pick than compete for a Championship? Beane has wasted many 3rd round picks on trade up, unfortunately.
However, I do think we will end up with a 3rd round comp pick for Edmunds. There is lots of time between now and May for players to be signed. We don't need to sign much more and we have lots of players that are FA's and will be signed by other teams.
I thought the ante to getting comp picks was a minimum of net zero gained or lost or 1 player positive lost?
It is but the contracts have to qualify

That is what I thought. But, I am not confident.
Basically a player has to sign a contract that qualifies for the formula which is a top 35% contract(somewhere a little over 2 million a year). Players signing contracts under that don’t even count toward the formula.

What current Bills free agents will sign for over 2 million a year to even qualify for the donpnpick formula? I don’t see anymore that will. Highly unlikely we get a comp pick in 2024

This where comp picks confuse me. How does Edmunds $18 million per year deal get canceled out by McGovern’s $7 million per year deal?
One qualifying contract cancels out another one regardless of value.

Wouldn’t be surprised if Beane waited to see Singletary contract so he could structure Harris’s deal to preserve the 3rd round pick
They don’t have a 3rd to preserve. Right now without contract values for Singletary, Sherfield, Harris they are at 2 qualifying free agents gained and two lost. So zero comp picks as of now

Didn't lose a comp pick for Harris. That canceled out Singletary.
Edmunds was already canceled out by the McGovern signing.
All depends on contract value not just total free agents lost/gained. Contract has to actually qualify for the formula

No. Nobody can confirm what's completely unclear at this point.
It's way too early to know how many we'll lose or how many we will gain.
It may have slightly increased the odds we don't get the pick, but even that is way too early to say for sure.

Just now, BuffaloRebound said:
Couldn’t Beane just call up his buddy Schoen and have him sign a Van Wroten, Hart, or Murphy to vet minimum deals?
Those contracts wouldn’t count. Contract value has to be in the top 35% to count which is between 2-3 million somewhere.

Based on that we already lost it
Depends on if Singletarys contract counts. Same with Sherfield and Harris. Right now we have two that count as losses and two that count as gains so no comp pick as of now.

LOL, you guys and your comp picks. Honestly thought most of the comp pick talk was just sarcasm because of how little it matters.
Getting your guys and shoring up the roster before the draft >>>>> Comp pick
If we dont sign Harris then we likely need to use that comp pick on yet another 3rd round RB anyways, so it's all a wash.
Worrying about comp picks is the new worrying about the salary cap. I'll just leave it to the pros.
People would rather sign scabs and have a worse team just to get that 100th pick in the draft

Can anyone confirm Buffalo lost a third round comp pick by signing Harris? If so, that is a HUGE mistep by Brandon Beane...unbelievable.

The team desperately needs help at LB and CB and safety depth, not to mention a true run-stuffing DL and you don't want to use picks there?
lol there’s nothing close to a desperate need at CB. Linebackers yes and depth at safety i agree with
Bills sign Damien Harris
