Sherfield got the same contract so same for him.  The question is what Jaquan Johnson signed for with LV because that might mean an additional pick.

I read somewhere when he signed it was a minimum deal

I just don’t understand why any team would see Ed Oliver as a real chip to be traded for.

An average DT at $10.7M on the last year of his deal as the centerpiece for a #1 WR albeit in the later years of his prime?

Given that the Bills only have $8M in cap space, there has to be a salary going out in the form of a trade?

Do the Bills have to get rid of a Dawson Knox or Tre’Davious White to make this work?

How do they realistically open up enough cap space to fit him?

Arizona is going to have to eat some Hopkins salary.  No team is going to trade for that contract as it sits.  You can easily get his cap hit down to single digits

guessing that beane is making the normal inquiries on hopkins.

hopkins agents tells him buffalo is checking in on you. player fans the sicial media  flames.

hopkins and/or arizona would likely have to make unwanted concessions to make it happen. deal in limbo.

the Oliver news started with beane approaching his camp on a restructure that would lower his cap, but not add new dollars. oliver said we are only interested in a restructure if adds new dollars and years......thats a no go. hence his comments

i guess its possible both could get resolved together via trade

You can’t restructure a 5th year option.  It is what it is.  You either cut the player eat all the dead money and save 0 or sign to a new deal

    Three options

    1. Trade Oliver for a 2nd and draft another DT. They don't have the draft capital to spend on a DT at this point.

    2. Sign Wagner to play MLB. Keep Oliver on the 5th year. Burn one of your draft picks on a DT.

    3. Assuming no veteran MLB is signed, bring back Phillips or some other journeyman for the 4th DT and let Oliver play out his contract like they did with Edmunds. Draft a LB this year to replace Edmunds and draft DT in 2024. Only one of the first 4 picks should be used for defense.

3b. Trade out of the first round and get two day 2 picks. This allows you to get MLB, DT, WR, OT, C/G  in the first four rounds in no particular order.

lol nobody going to give up a 2nd for Ed Oliver.  If they do that teams GM should be fired on the spot.

No one is trading for Oliver this off-season.  Best case scenario...he has a really good season with the Bills leading the defense on a deep playoff run, cashes in with another team during 2024 FA, and the Bills get a decent comp pick for losing him.

The comp pick obsession is out of control.  Get the players you want.  If they so happen get a comp pick great.. if not who cares

no specifics out yet.  No breakdown of numbers on spotrac or over the cap.  Just need the base to be 2 million at least then we are good
