  1. I didnt want to start a new thread for this so looked for a thread this may apply to.  Not really many, but it's worth the listen.  I wouldn't really take much stock in the title of it.  Sal spoke on Diggs but I wouldn't call it "dishing out the truth."  He covers a little bit on Diggs, a little bit about our skill positions (hint not good enough,) McD is basically safe, and the throw to Shakir instead of Diggs.

It’s Lamar’s award this year by process of elimination, but Dak and no Mahomes? Come on 🤪

We all know Mahomes is better than Dak.  As much as some want to fight it though its a seed/stat award.  Mahomes didn't have the seeding nor the stats.  Dak was the 2 seed and also top of the league in stats.  #1 in passing Tds.  #3 in yards.  Mahomes was the 3 seed, #8 in TD passes, and 6th in yards.  The award has pretty much always gone to the 1 or 2 seed.  The award has almost always gone to the QB that is in the 1 or 2 seed and lead the league in TDs (or top 3) and also top 5 or so in passing yards.  At least for the last decade or so.

MVP has never been a stat award (Drew Brees?)

Once you come to terms with that- it's easy to see why Lamar is going to be the MVP.

It's the best player on the best team (with good enough stats).

The Ravens played in the hardest division in the league (3 teams made the playoffs, all 4 teams winning records). Not only that- the teams they played outside their division were also playoff contenders Det, SF, Mia, Rams, etc.

Lamar was consistent and controlling and limited mistakes. He allowed the defense on Baltimore to thrive by sustaining long drives and controlling opposing defenses with his legs and arms while minimizing turnovers. They were beyond the point where he needed to air it out in many games. They have the most wins over 14 points in a season ever in the history of the NFL. that's crazy if you think about it. They blew teams out and he had no reason to try and pass/pad stats to keep score. He just did the best, on the best team, and was pretty consistent within the context of this years players.

Would I rather have JA17? Yes. Allen is a better passer and I would say almost as good a runner, and possibly in his own way- a better runner than Lamar. But is Lamar the MVP over JA17 this year? Yes. Lamar was more consistent in what he had to do to get his team to the top of the league than Josh.

MVP in part has always been a stat award.  Usually goes to 1 or 2 seed and the QBs are almost always top 3 in TDs at the very least.

We need to let him go - but unlike Edmonds I think we’ll regret this one.  He is a good one who will probably shine somewhere.

remember we ran Robert woods and zay jones outta here too.  Gabe us far better than them.

Woods wanted out.  Nobody ran him out.  Jones still took years just to be a decent guy.  Gabe is not better than Woods.

I thought Josh rushed his decision making a bit on the 3rd down. Kurt Warner's point the other week that sometimes he just speeds his own process up to his detriment. If they had even got that to say 4th and 5 I think they'd have gone for it. Had to try and make the kick on 4th and 9. And then the kicker missed a very makeable kick.

I don't think there is a chance in hell McD goes for it in that spot.  McD is pretty aggressive on 4th downs comparatively to most other coaches, but with the game on the line when they have a chip shot tie, I don't see McD going for that.  4th and 1 maybe and even that is close for me.  4th and 5 id say 99% chance no.

Before you disagree, how often have you seen McD go for 4th and 5?  Has McD ever put the game on the line on 4th down instead of taking the tie if its possible and extending the game?  Not that I recall.

    and his losses...

Rookie year with a team that wasn't even a playoff team.

    Mahomes

    Mahomes

Burrow (the mentally exhausted year.  I dont really like this excuse but hey they did one for Lamar so...)

    Mahomes

No shame in any of those losses.  Especially when at least one of them shouldn't have been a loss.

He would’ve been legendary if he hit the wide open Khalil Shakir for the GW TD.  But he missed.  He played a great game….. but he missed when we needed him most

Actually, I agree with this.  It's a shame Dawkins got abused and Josh missed the pass.  I would say that Josh worked harder and did more than anyone on the field though.  This team needs to stop fielding the Sherfield and Harty's at receiver and go get someone reliable.

Disagree with this. I thought Brady called a perfect game plan. It is hard for an offense to function without a single outside WR playing at even an average level. Brady took the only possible path of feeding the RBs and leaning on Josh's legs. There is only so much you can do when you're forced into that game script, but he maximized it as best he could.

I would not.  It was decent but Brady suffers from the same thing that Dorsey and Daboll both suffered from.  He doesn't know how to mix up a game and keep a defense guessing on its toes.  The other team knows we are running. The other team knows we are passing more often than not.  It always seems run when the passing game isn't working so well and run until the run is stopped.  Hardly ever do I see a shot or even a pass play on second and short for instance.  Even though, we may convert that 2nd and short for a first down via the run, thats all it usually is... a couple yards.  The other team knows its coming because thats what we do.  How about throw a pass play in there once in a while.  Its like we set stuff up all game and all year long but never work off the setup.

One of my issues with this team the last 5 years is that drawing up plays that got players open wasnt at the place we needed it to be at.

When you watch some of the good offensive coaches/OCs you can see the difference on them getting players open.

ok this is a little unfair...but look at a kyle shannahan offense. Youre telling me Josh is too dumb to run that offense?

He isn't dumb at all.  I wouldn't put him on the processing level of Brady or Mahomes but he is far from dumb.  Sometimes Josh made the wrong read yup.  All QBs do though.  Part of the problem was also spacing issues.  The offense makes a defender in conflict.  The DB had to choose to commit to covering one receiver or the other.  Josh needed to read that.  The problem is that a lot of times the spacing was so close that the defender wasn't truly in conflict at all.  He could sit almost in the middle of the two players and jump either receiver when the ball was thrown.

Josh is an enigma.  A unicorn.  There is a lot of access to film now.  Fans have grown into scrutinizing and nit picking every single play.  The media nitpicks every single play because its Josh Allen.  I don't think this happens for any other QB in the media really.  Maybe it does and because I am a Bills fan, I don't see it but I have never seen a QB get so nit picked on every single play.  That just magnifies the bad when a team loses games.  In Allen's case it even does so in the wins.

I assure people that bad plays happen for all QBs.  We seen Mahomes over throw 2 TDs in this game alone.  It wasn't even his only two mistakes.  If they lost that game I doubt Mahomes is looked at as harsh as Josh is almost every week.  Instead of the receiver drops being magnified... or even talked about really, we are nit picking where he should have thrown the ball 2 yards beyond the los instead.  Think people do that for Mahomes?  Hell no, they say ohh his receiver dropped a TD pass.

First off, Diggs was one on one, but he was not open when JA made the decision to throw him the ball. Go back and look at the video again. When JA releases the ball, the safety is actually running behind Diggs. Yes, when the ball finally gets there, Diggs is (barely) behind the safety, but the safety is right there, about one foot away.

Everybody touts JA as one of the top 3 QBs in the league, so shouldn't his decision-making be better, at this point, what, 5-6 years into his career? Throughout this season we've half-jokingly wondered whether we'd see "Good Josh" or "Bad Josh."

Finally, what makes JA different than Tom Brady or Kurt Warner is his running abilty. But JA still has a ways to go before he equals those 2 guys on reading defenses and making the right decision regarding where to throw the ball. The play we're discussing here perfectly illustrates the latter.

Diggs was open. Im not doing pics right now.  Warner even says "I get it, Diggs is open right here."  Its one play dude, I am not going in circles with you.  Have more things in life to worry about.

Because he is one of the top QBs in the league.  If you don't think so then I think we are done discussing.  Pretty much anybody respectable will tell you he is a top QB.  Someone not named Nick Write hoping for clicks and weak minded Dolphin/Chiefs fans.  Good Josh/Bad Josh is something fans made up in their head.  All QBs have bad days.

What made Brady/Warner special was the ability to read and identify stuff quickly and throw a quick accurate ball.  What makes Josh special is his running ability, his uncanny ability for extending the play, cannon for an arm, and the ability to get the ball anywhere on the field at any time.  You see Brady or Warner running to the sideline and wipping out a 30 yard pass across their body on the one inch mark?  No.  There is a lot more special and different about Josh and those two guys.  If you don't see the difference you either haven't been watching, you can't identify what you are looking at, or you're just looking for a disingenuous conversation.  I could write an essay on the differences but come on bro.  You know the differences.  The reason those guys don't throw to Diggs there is because they don't have the ability to throw to Diggs there.  65 yards in the swirling winds and dropped it on the damn money.

I apologize if I sound a little dickish.  Had a bad day.  I don't mean it.

If you watch the sequence on the second play broken down it was no wonder Diggs was not getting open.  None of us know where he was supposed to be and what route he was running but the Bills had a terrible route design. It’s almost as if the Bills get in their own way.

If Brady does become OC these issues have to be cleaned up.

These issues were present with Dorsey too.  Not sure on Daboll.  Don't forget we lost Chad Hall.  WR coach I am sure has a lot to do with teaching this stuff and getting it right.

Would love to see that because the stats I just put up don't lie.

There's a huge difference between 14.5 YPR and 8.8, much more between 7 and 1 TDs.

If you have the link I'd love to see it.  I'm pretty sure it's quite easily debunkable.

well I’m at drs now discussing surgery so it’s gonna be a while.

  12. 4 minutes ago, PBF81 said:

He caught 6 balls for 86 yards and a TD two weeks prior, for 14.3 YPR, 5.5 YPR greater than his average under Brady.

The week prior, with Dorsey already taking heat, who knows how impacting his play-calling, Diggs still led the WRs and Allen only completed 15 passes.  Diggs still average 11.3 YPR, more than all but two games under Brady, and only marginally less in those two games.

So that's not a true statement.

When Brady took over, that's when we saw his routes turn into short OTMs, short outs, and other nonsense more suited to slot WRs or guys out of the backfield.

At the end of the day we're hardly dealing with premier OCs here.  That's on McD.

We'll figure it out.  I get the impression that Allen doesn't care, because he has a fairly care-free life.  He's disappointed in the season, but he also seems quite content to get away from football and go on his annual golfing and travel spree.  Great for him, really.  Quite frankly little if any of this is his fault.  I'm sure he needs to get away from this insanity just as much as many fans do now too.

im not going to look it up again but cover 1 did a thing showing Diggs fall off. It started before Brady.

in any case I’m not going to blame his fall off on Brady. Maybe part of it but you could see on the field it wasnt just offensive system with him. Some of his routes were lazy af and not crisp. His hands have been a problem and that’s not OC.

  13. 1 hour ago, PBF81 said:

Doesn't anyone find it suspicious that before Brady took over Diggs had 73 catches for 868 Yards, 7 TDs, and perhaps most tellingly, 11.9 YPR, in 10 games, but after Brady took over, in a similar 9 games, had 44 catches for 388 Yards, 1 TD, and 8.8 YPR?  or 3 YPR fewer?

People have wanted to blame Brady in the past. Diggs slide started two weeks before that.
