  1. So you can't explain. As I thought.

    Explain what?

The Bills suck, and have sucked for 17-18 years now.

What self righteous fan gets on the internet and tells other fans how to act and feel towards their team.

Guess what - Jeffsmagic and all the other "negative Nancies" are right year after year. So stop trying to convince.

Do you want honest discussion about the state of the Bills or just stuff that makes people "feel good".

  2. Maybe you could explain how having other players or teams on your avatar fits with being a Bill's supporter.

Why do you care? Or feel like you have to moderate people?

If you want a Bills themed Avatar, more power to you. If a guy wants a Patrick Mahomes avatar, why rip him? Can you blame the guy for wanting the Bills to at least attempt to get a franchise QB?

This is entertainment, not life or death. The Bills haven't played in a big spot for years. At tthis point instead of ripping fans for enjoying other aspects of football, just enjoy a growing body of people on this site who bring more angles.

If we want Bills 100% love talk, we'll go to Sal Cappacio or John Murphy to get it.

  3.

It would be nice if you followed your own wishes...

And it would be nicer if Bills fans didn't have Avatars of other teams players...

And it would be sweeter if Mods would temp suspend posters claiming to be a Bills fan that yet still insist on having another teams player as their Avatar...

And it would be even sweeter if we didn't have countless threads started about players who aren't Bills, never have been a Bill, and never were going to be a Bill...

    Why?

Because it fit your agenda on how to be a fan?

  4. How you can say they have no one behind William/Dareus and Hughes while ignoring the fact that they just drafted Lawson and Washington last year is where I would suggest you're being negative just to be negative.

No, I just pulled up the roster and depth chart. I stand by what I've said. We are thin, especially in Front 7.

    2006 - Williams

    2007 - No DT

    2008 - No DT

    2009 - No DT

    2010 - Troup, Carrington

    2011 - Dareus, maybe Jasper

    2012 - No DT

    2013 - No DT

    2014 - No DT

    2015 - No DT

    2016 - Washington

    2017 - No DT

Washington had his snaps reduced as the year went on and was sitting at the end of last season.

Our DE starters are Hughes and Lawson, then street free agents.

The other evidence of this lack of front 7 depth is not being able to stop the run.

    2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2016 the Bills have been 22nd against the run of worse.

  5. The premise of the thread is fine, I suppose, if one defines one's terms correctly. An irrational downer is someone who instinctively faults everything OBD does and perhaps uses "17 years" as justification. There are irrational optimists who the former often call "homers." Over the years, I have often been branded a homer, so I find it ironic that recently I have caught flack for being a "downer" because I question the direction of the current team. Imo, it is somewhat unsettling to see how much power McD appears to have accrued before he has ever coached a down as head coach of an NFL team. I generally liked Doug Whaley, though his performance was mixed and it's fine if the Pegulas decided to go another direction. The way they have chosen to do so, however, apparently investing an unproven first-time head coach with inordinate power, causes me to suspect McD is just the latest infatuation, rather than part of a well-thought out logical command structure. I could be wrong on this and I hope it works out.

This is well written and I agree with every word of it.

I think you have to look at how the team is constructed. Offensively, this is the best this set of Bills are going to be, if not past their primes a tad. Incognito is in his mid-30's, Glenn is 27, McCoy will turn 29 this summer, Watkins is in the last year of his contract, Wood is in his 30's, Clay is 28. We lost Woods and Gilislee (both squarely in their prime).

Defensively, for me it's a depth study. No emerging DTs behind Dareus and Williams (34 now), thin at DE with just Hughes (29 years), a couple of linebackers, unproven at corner and no depth at Safety. IMO the defensive scheme changes, and lack of investment in DE/DT and LB have caught up to the Bills. There aren't many up and coming young players on this side of the ball.

So you put it together and I don't see where the Bills have gotten any better in terms of talent. I guess we are hoping Tyrod gets better, Sammy stays healthy and Bills target him, and McDermott gets the Bills back to a better defensive scheme. With the schedule, it feels like a 6 win team.

  6. I don't know how the people who always rip the Negative Nancies and try to correct other fans for not being good enough, reconcile that at the end of the year that the Bills once again are multiple games away from contention?

You want to tell others how to be a fan, and yet you are wrong every single year.

I want the Bills to win for my family and the Buffalo area, but they are squarely in prove it territory, with no benefit of the doubt given.

  7. As you look at what the Bills have done, its all based on hope.

Hope that Mahomes isn't good. Hope that Watson isn't good. Hope that you can trade up to the top of the Draft to get one of the Big 3.

Look who traded up - Playoff teams - Texans and Chiefs. And look who traded from #10 and #12 - the Browns and Bills, the two longest Playoff drought teams in the NFL.

Why not just take Watson or Mahomes and get on with this thing?

I think Tyrod deserves another year and I am far more excited by next years crop of Qb's, especially Darnold.

Who, if he has a year like last year, will go #1 overall.

  8. Your talking about one poster amoung many.....i could easily point several poster's to you that are on the other side of that polarization

In your opinion this is a 5 to 6 win team.....even though we have not come close that that win/loss in the last 3 years

    Past 3 years 9 wins, 8 wins, 7 wins.

Lost Woods, Gilislee, Gilmore and Brown in FA.

    Kyle Williams is almost done.

Same QB that can't get it done.

    Rookie HC again.

  9. Again, some people can't grasp this, but the team has not won a Playoff game since 1995 now....

Stop getting on your high mountain of morals and judging fans for being negative. Pushing your unconditional love for this team on others that can look at things objectively.

The Bills are right back on their usual 6 win path. FA didn't change that, and neither did the draft.

  10. My thoughts are I can't believe that any Bills fan would even buy into this. Why would that make anyone purchase tickets to a game or go to the Bills store to buy a $45 ball cap?

It's a marketing ploy designed by people in offices that have nothing to do with the actual football product on the field.

Sean McDermott is a rookie Head Coach screaming into a mic. Yeah sorry Coach your team is a 6 win football team no matter how early you wake up.

  11. 2009 was really bad - Bud Adams flipping off Bills fans, the last days of Jauron, Turk Schonert getting fired a few days before the season started and taking shots at the organization, Trent still starting, but now Fitzpatrick being bled in there. That was a year where you felt like you weren't even in the league, like the Bills didn't even have a real team, Russ Brandon is your GM, Jason Peters is shipped out.

2010 was awful too. 70 year old Buddy Nix trades Lynch, I hated it then and I hate it even more now, what a horrible of a trade that was, extending Chris Kelsay, switching defenses to the 3-4 and wasting an entire draft trying to change over for George Edwards, hiring a Coach that was out of football, Trent STILL starting the season and running out of bounds against Green Bay, Duke Preston saying the Bills were grasping at straws.

  12. Last Guy, I see the same things as you. He does remind me of Marrone when he runs around saying "earning the right to win."

With Marrone, I always felt he talked like he knew everything. Every situation, he'd been there, done that. While I think McDermott has a much better resume because of the length of his coordinator posts and mentors, I wonder when his holier than though approach will get old.

  13. You got to look at it from Sammys side. He definitely won't resign after being disrespected. So mail it in, so they don't franchise you.

    What has Sammy proved here?

He has yet to have a year as good as Steve Johnson.

Show up, have 1,500 yards and the Bills will pay.

But its been nothing but playing through injuries and the Bills not knowing/willing to use him for 3 years now.

  14. He got in with Ralph and in that transition he was made the liaison to Erie County, and the league regarding the Stadium and sale of the Bills.

But he has a job because he befriended Ralph Wilson and was named GM after Marv stepped down.

Everybody knows somebody like Russ at work.

The guy that keeps moving up the ladder and you aren't sure why.

And he gets all this credit for selling tickets, but the Bills have loyal fans. No fan goes to the game because Russ Brandon is the President of the Bills. They go because Buffalo is a small town and the Bills and Sabres are the main entertainment options.

I mean is "One Buffalo" an unbelievable marketing slogan? No. The Sabres got really good in 2006-2007 and that place has been packed since.

  15. Whaley is not the core problem. That would be Russ & the Pegulas overriding or ignoring their GM's input.

There are several examples where coaching or player decisions went against Whaley's opinion, for better or worse.

If that doesn't change, the new guy doesn't stand a chance.

The problem with Whaley was that he had no over arching theory on how to build this team. For awhile he ran around saying "Big Wins" in the NFL, he was "All In" on EJ as so on. Therefore he was a weak GM that was willing to stand aside and let Coaches dictate to him what defense they were going to run and what players to obtain.

    That's what I saw anyways.

He was asked point blank at this years Year End Press Conference, what is your plan on how to build a team, his answer was find a Coach and "get talent".

So when you see the Ravens draft Humphrey and Williams, that's a Ravens model, or the Patriots load up with agility players, that the Patriots.

Whaley's model was to scab together offense pieces around weak backup level Quarterbacks. Again with the trading up and down, we always seemed lacking in draft capital, he had no idea about our cap situation (always deferring to Overdorf), the public speaking and getting caught in awkward statements (humans shouldn't play football, no idea why Rex was fired).
