    As far as I understood, the #Walkaway

    movement is Dems that are fed up with the direction of their party. Wrong ?

    Guess they're just #Racists too.

    Opposition = racist

    That is correct.

    Many who did a #walkaway have said, "I didn't leave my party, my party left me."

    Can you add more than this?

    If you’re happy a few posters who campIgn and bully got banned, why not celebrate that by posting better content yourself?

    I think you are in for a surprise if you expect enlightened discussion here once the exodus is complete. It is a shame. It may have been dysfunctional and combative at times,  but it was interesting and informative.

    Omg, another "new" random poster. They probably all have circular "reactions" too. Discord raid or Tibs finally got an adderall prescription.

    I think you misread (or misunderstood) his post.  He is not pleased with the board Karens.

    Horrible, isn’t it to think we can make a place better?

    I know you have not appreciated DR's contributions. That is a shame as he has sources and contacts the rest of us can only dream about.  His being banned will result in an enormous loss of quality information being posted in this community.

    They don't really owe us anything.  This is a private site though I do find it hypocritical.

    I do not feel they owe an explanation either. As you say, it is a private site. However, it is becoming more and more difficult to identify what type of posting earns a ban.

  6. Math is racist? :wacko:

    </snip>

    The Mathematical Association of America released a statement Friday claiming both that mathematicians should engage in “uncomfortable conversations” about race, and that policies of from the Trump administration, like the lack of a mask mandate in the United States, are somehow an affront to mathematics. The group concludes with a call for a “pursuit of justice” within math.

    Yes I will tell you masks and social distancing.

    And the entire country isn't open because people can't seem to use common sense and do this.

    That's not to say it's impossible to get sick if you do those things, but chances are exponentially reduced.

    That's medical experts talking, not me.

    Blame China all you want. Trump has mismanaged this Pandemic since it's reached our shores and now it's just caught up with him.

    I apologize because I like you and enjoy engaging you occasionally, but yes, the fact that you can't hold this man's cavalier attitude and actions in the face of a disease that's gotten to over 7 million and killed more than 210 thousand in our country at this point, then yes, you're clearly part of the Cult-of-Trump.

    Over in the COVID thread I just posted a "got it with mask" article, studies that masks do not work, etc.  I found one that stated people with pulmonary issues might benefit from masks, but no one else.  Last two pages.

    "Trump has mismanaged this Pandemic since it's reached our shores and now it's just caught up with him."

    Please, do tell (even with the benefit of hindsight) what you would have done differently. And, that hindsight is giving you a real edge to explain your plan because with what was little was known of this virus back in January, February, and March (heck, even April), it was difficult for anyone to make great decisions. Another reason to be pissed at China. If they had shared what they knew (instead of lying and hiding it), it may have gone far differently for the world.

  8. The 2015 study on cloth masks

    Transmission with masks.

    2017 study:

    </snip>

    This systematic review and meta-analysis quantified the protective effect of facemasks and respirators against respiratory infections among healthcare workers. Compared to masks, N95 respirators conferred superior protection against CRI (RR = 0.47; 95% CI: 0.36–0.62) and laboratory-confirmed bacterial (RR = 0.46; 95% CI: 0.34–0.62), **but not viral infections or ILI**.

    Disposable, cotton, or paper masks are not recommended.

    The confirmed effectiveness of medical masks is crucially important for lower-resource and emergency settings lacking access to N95 respirators. In such cases, single-use medical masks are preferable to cloth masks, for which there is no evidence of protection and which might facilitate transmission of pathogens when used repeatedly without adequate sterilization.

    I looked it up, the results haven't been released yet. However, I'm confused what that study is trying to prove. The study as designed is testing if wearing a mask helps prevent the mask wearer from getting infected. But that's not what mask mandates are for. Masks are meant to stop infected people, even asymptomatic ones, from spreading the virus to other people. You'd have to wear an entire face mask that even covered your eyes to prevent being infected. Mouth and nose covering masks are not designed for that purpose.

    From the design paper:

    In the community, the use of face masks is increasing world-wide, but documentation for the efficacy of this remedy is lacking. This trial investigates whether the use of face masks in the community will reduce wearers' risk of SARS-CoV-2 infection.

    I am not sure if the premise is "do  masks work" or "do masks work for everyday schumps" (where the correct wearing and constant face touching may factor in).

    They used surgical masks, for the study.

    This was interesting:

    Hospital mask policy.

    Should be an interesting paper. I wonder if they studied all types of face coverings, and if they have useful or useless designations based on the type? IOW are some masks helpful?  Do N-95s work against the virus?  Are regular hospital masks helpful? Disposables? What about bandanas? What would have to be developed to make them useful (assuming nothing we have now helps)?

    Face-Mask Photo Op Adds to Bewilderment Over Non-Use in Denmark

    </snip>

    All these countries recommending face masks haven’t made their decisions based on new studies,” Bundgaard said in an interview in Copenhagen.

    He says there’s evidence to suggest that the only effective face covering might be a visor, because the virus can spread through all mucous membranes, including via the eyes. He worries a cloth covering that only protects the nose and mouth provides a “false sense of security.”

    </snip>

    Bundgaard’s study on masks is due to be published next month. In the meantime, he says he hopes they don’t become mandatory in Denmark.

    </snip>

    When snooping through this thread for some links for @HappyDays  I came across this from July. I cannot find the study which was to be released in August. As it is now October, I would hope it would have been released. Has anyone seen/read it?

    That's a 1200 page thread. I would appreciate a link without having to search for one there. I'm genuinely asking in good faith. I want to know what evidence there is that masks do not prevent the spread of covid-19.

    And I have over 10K posts down here. I genuinely do not have time to sort through my posts because you do not have time to sort through a thread.

    Note: if I could just search masks, I would. Unfortunately, that thread is over 6 months old, and "masks" give a lot of returns.

    I can't speak for others but when I make claims I show my receipts. I have noticed an unwillingness from others to do the same over these last few pages.

    Science is hard. I'm not claiming to be an expert. I'm not saying we know everything about covid-19. But if you're going to make a negative claim like "masks do not reduce the spread of covid-19" I expect some level of good sourcing.

    It is not an unwillingness... go to the correct thread and start reading.  The links are there. 🙂
