Where’s the line, though? Walmart made over $600 billion last year—should we all just fill our carts and walk out because they’ve “made enough”? Well, if everyone did that, the business would collapse. That’s the problem with justifying theft based on company profits - It literally relies on others doing the right thing so that you can do the wrong thing. The logic is: “I don’t have to pay because enough others already did.” That only works if a critical mass doesn’t think like you. It's freeloading, plain and simple.

Simon’s point about collusion and lack of competition is more compelling - but even that doesn’t justify piracy in my opinion. It might justify regulatory pressure, not theft.

PS to all who responded to my original post: I'm not ignoring you - I just don't want to clutter this thread with replies. The reply above synthesizes what I would have said in each anyway.

Taxpayers subsidize Wal Mart as they pay their employees below poverty level in many states so screw them.  Having said that, I'm so paranoid of getting arrested that I won't even throw a apple core out of a window because I don't want to get stopped for littering.

If you're really into football $1500 to watch every game isn't absurd imo.  You have to be REALLY into it though to watch all those games live.  I'll pay for NFL plus so if I want to watch a game I'll just do it the next day.  Just remember though that when you illegally stream games Josh Allen might only make $54.99m per year.

I love how the schedule makers are like @Jets week 1.  We're calling your bluff.

Schedule makers built this in. That's why they do. Fields was known and Rodgers was all but known well before that process ended.

Way ahead of you.  Lol.  It'll be interesting to see if the Jets fans boo him as they seem to blame Woody Johnson above everyone else.

The these posts overwhelm every topic. If I wanted to read twitter I would go to twitter. If that's just what this place will always be so be it.

It is a slight annoyance in this section compared to TSW with the overabundance of tweets.  Maybe one of our 10 embedded tweets are informative and I usually just skip by them.  This place would be better if you had like a two embedded tweet/article link quota per user a day.  Use your tweets wisely.  Although a guy with a shirt off with the X handle @zerohedge could be the next Woodward and Berstein for all we know.

I don't know.  If it was a non-rookie scale contract, I think they could but I think the rookie deals have some kind of language/structure about guarantee%.

I'm also not sure the Bills have the space to add a bunch of meaningful incentives.

Cap space isn't that hard to create so that wouldn't worry me.  It might be a temporary band aid to make sure we get 100% out of Cook starting in training camp.

He's not trying to go this year without a contract extension though.

He's trying to get the best possible contract extension.  As he should.

Do you know if they can alter his contract and have his last year guaranteed for injury?  I know they can add incentive bonuses which is my best guess of what will happen.

The problem with that is that his salary is largely non-guaranteed for 2025.

So if James Cook has an unfortunate jet ski accident, the Bills waive him with a non-football injury, and he walks away with $4.6M in earnings, closer to 2M after taxes/agents, and generational wealth is gone.

He has a little bit of leverage now, which he is using, because his financial future is far from guaranteed.

He should do whatever he can to get the most money possible, because it is what we would all do in his position.

He doesn't have much leverage.  Shakir and Bernard were also non premium positions but they took the offer Beane gave them because it protected against that sort of thing.  There's no doubt in my mind that Beane valued him around $8m a year and pry isn't going to budge much.  If he goes this year without a contract extension he's betting on himself.  I'm not going to feel bad for him if he has a major injury because he had a chance to sign the extension that Beane offered him.

The increase in the SALT deduction is pleasing me. And I'll bet other posters here in States with high income and property taxes.

As for removing the EV tax credit, the big majority of people buying a Tesla EV are high earners that probably don't need it. I see lots of Teslas in my section of town and at present I think they're just a rich man's toy and before Musk got tangled up with Trump a way for liberals to virtue signal they're concern for the environment if you ignore the 2 giant gasoline powered SUVs in their driveway.

Why should a farmer in South Dakota subsidize millionaires living in Weschester county?

Trump deserves the backlash for caving to the Establishment…very disappointing…

That's easy to say from the sidelines but the fact is he's got to get this bill through without Democratic support.  It's very difficult to do when you have a slim majority in both the House and Senate.  That's the reality of being president as you have to make pragmatic decisions on what you think is best for the party at this moment.  It's impossible to please everyone.

Johnson and Davis could have put up similar numbers if they got the ball as much.  The O line is why our run game is so strong.  James Cook is a nice RB.  And the Bills like him.  But he is not going to get paid by us like he is Thurman Thomas reincarnated.  Just not going to happen under this regime.

He wouldn't give top of the market money for sure.  However, Beane's stated in the past that he wouldn't be opposed to drafting a first round running back (I disagree with him) and that line of thinking would pry extend to giving productive backs second contracts.  Just the mere fact that their appeared to be talks between Beane and Cook's agent makes me think the Bills want to re-sign him.  I think I remember correctly that Beane sigend Breida in 2021 even though they had Singletary and Moss because of Breida's home run potential.  Cook has that.

They pry have Cook's value around $8m given his age, work load, efficiency, and work ethic.  Far away from the $15m though that Cook seems to want.  Beane pry won't move off that price so he could pry draft a RB next year that's maybe 85 to 90% the player that James Cook is at a fifth of the cost.  Still somewhat rolling the dice though even if RB is one of the safer day two picks compared to other positions.

Two trains are driving toward one another. The first train leaves Town A at 5am traveling at 60 miles per hour. The second train leaves Town B at 7am traveling at 70 miles per hour. the distance between Town A and Town B is 455 miles.

What is the EXACT time that the collision will occur?

You'd have to calculate how fast each train gets up to that speed and the wind resistance.

Rodgers is going to have his best game of his career week 1 against the Jets then be trash after that.

It is kind of coincidental that Fields started for the Steelers and Rodgers started for the Jets week 1 last year.  Now they swapped teams and will play each other week 1 this year as starters.  I wonder if that's ever happened before.

I mean I don’t doubt anything anymore with these two, but do you really think if it was scripted, Trump would be ok with the richest man in the world - and former (like as of Monday) friend - essentially calling him a pedophile? This is just crazy crazy stuff!

Elon has a mild form of Aspergers.  He wouldn't have gotten to where he is today without it but going off on a tweet storm like this isn't surprising.

I’ve been in the space industry most of my career - which is nearing an end. 10 years ago I was certain I would see a man on Mars in my lifetime. Very pessimistic about it now. An incredibly plodding effort.

What's changed in those 10 years?  I think that's the one thing that would really mean something globally in our lifetimes.

As many have pointed out, you can get Sunday ticket stand alone.  also, not sure why ESPN is listed at $105 when it's included in YTTV, for example.

anyway, 20 of 272 games were streamed last year.  how many fans typically seek to watch every game of the season??  Hopeless gamblers maybe.

I consider it 334 games including the pre-season and playoffs.  I have a system though.  It's gotta work eventually.

If they force feed Shakir like that the numbers are the same.  Different skill set but I have no doubt he’d be a 1200-1400 yard receiver

I think you're dreaming.  He had a 3rd round grade on him for a reason given his small arms meant most likely a slot only WR.  However, if Shakir can put up 700 to 900 yards receiving every year I'd be cool with that at $15m per year for a slot only WR.

I feel like it’s a perfect storm with this guy. There has been zero buzz, no expectations and he has legitimate all

Pro Ability. That seems to be the type of combination that results in being pleasantly surprised.

I'd be more with you if it wasn't $12m guaranteed for a one year deal spread over two years with $7.2m in dead cap in 2026.  I just wish it was a clean one year deal but I get why they did it.  For that money we should absolutely expect him to be a difference maker in the playoffs.  If we fail to make the Super Bowl, it's a bad signing no matter how you spin it.

Elon’s intentions are good, but virtue in politics is not rewarded and he wants Republicans to take the 20 side of an 80/20 issue.

    Americans don’t care about debt.

    They should.. but we don’t.

Therefore he wants the slashing of entitlements which would result, likely, in Republican losses over the next 2-4 years .. which, ironically, would lead to even worse handling of the debt.

I agree that Americans really don't care about debt and passing this bill would be good long term for the party.  If the Repulicans thought reducing the deficit was a top priority someone like Rand Paul or Paul Ryan would be president.

Musk feels used though.  I'm guessing that In his mind wtf did he spend all that time working the last four months to make better use of taxpayer money with DOGE and then have a spending bill that would increase the deficit by 5 trillion dollars?  Especially given his businesses took a hit because he worked with Trump.  It's a slap in the face and I don't disagree.

R u for real with that statement? You actually think Elon Musk cares? He’s a shrewd businessman…he’s playing both sides right now. He got his foot in the door and siphoned all the info he needed to give his business an edge while making himself and his liberal, electric vehicles look appealing to MAGA since they were “soooo unfairly attacked” by the liberal hate machine…blah, blah, blah…now he can re-center himself in the public eye and distance himself from Donald because he has what he wanted and by the time anyone realizes the “access” he has provided himself and confronts it, IT WON’T MATTER.
    Well played Elon

You still have them thinking you care about the US deficit for some f-in reason!

I love how people just place the most cynical of motivations on people they don't know.
