I mean biggest fundamental problem. A fumble and penalties are easily fixable over the course of a game. Being unable to throw with any pressure in the pocket is not fixable.

No, it definitely was. The official rule is subjective. It's a penalty if the QB clearly throws the ball to avoid a sack. That's clearly what Mahomes was doing there.
