If the topic is Super Bowl .. starts and stops with QB .. .just look at history
-
Overstating the glaring obvious ... yes we need a new QB and need to draft one maybe two (see Redskins a few years ago with RG III (bust in trade up) then Cousins in round 4.
That said, very Interesting article on recent trade ups and value of trades for QB's in most recent drafts ... it also shows the premium we got paid by KC last year. My vote is sit tight at 21 & 22, unless someone we love drops to #15 or so (please no EJ Manuel flashbacks). I think draft history shows enough quality QB's after round 1 starting today in the NFL --- Wilson, Brees, Brady, Carr, Cousins, Garapolo, shockingly after this year Keenum (undrafted).
Take out the top 3 overall draft picks at QB ... as it would costs too much for us to move there ... that removes ... Ryan, Newton, Stafford, Wentz, Goff, Manning, Winston, Mariotta
http://www.footballperspective.com/teams-traded-up-for-a-1st-round-qb-16-times-from-2005-to-2017/
I think the right OC hire and a free agent vet (Smith, or trade 3rd for Dalton), hell Jay Cutler beat the Pats this year.

I'd gut the whole booth .. not a fan of McDonaugh (to stiff) ... Color analyst ... I'd go with Bruce Arians ... he'd be more fun than and less painful to hear that Rex ... play by play and only looking at those under contract with ABC/ESPN for college .. either Steve Levy or Mark Jones.

Just saw this ... that's an interesting call as well . .if he could do play by play ... actually it would be funny if they did Mike & Mike but only for Monday Night Football .. a lot of M's in that .. M&M on Monday Night ... won't happen but interesting

Thanks fellow Stadium Wall participants for the confirmation .... the guys a Detroit fan .. he doesn't have to worry about the elements.

Since it's below zero in many places .. had some fun last night and replayed the snow game of the Colts / Bills ... my buddy claims New Era field has some form of underground heating due to the hash marks .. I said it was the guys with the shovels / leaf blowers between commercials ... who is right? I've search google all morning and can't get a hit to confirm ... because if its on the internet it has to be true ... so I'm turning to the Stadium Wall to avoid "fake news".

The Andy Dalton faces are AWESOME ... the walk to the ring and the end ... GREAT WORK!!!

Right next to a Ravens fan who parked at my house before walking next door for New Years Party .... lost it ... called my son .. and just screamed into the phone ... unbelievable .. got to party and had to knock back some Jameson to settle down .. while phone was blowing up with congrats from friends as they know how long I've been waiting for this day ... unbelievable and great memory as well as the Williams TD and celebration and mob on sidelines ... very classy move for very classy player .. have the video on my phone (yes I phones weren't around the last time we were in the playoffs)
There was definitely divine intervention taking place during that last drive by the Bengals.

When they have been 10 points up at any stage in a game this season they are 6-0. So people can B word about the conservative approach.... the fact is it is part of why the drought is over.
Now that's a great stat .. is is possible against Saint Doug's Defense with a one legged Shady? I hope so ... I don't see the Jags throwing up a ton of points ... but worried about getting to plus 10 ... but I'll take plus one at the end of the game

My son (a diehard Bills Fan through his gene pool) who drives now ... hadn't blessed us with his presence on earth yet.
Now he can drive for the road trip to Jacksonville!!

The football hit him in the freakin' hands. NO QB will ever be able to throw him a more perfect pass than that. He cost us the Carolina game.
If you're gonna be a playoff team, you GOTTA catch those.
He is a bust TFN. That can change, but as of now, with a capital B.
And ones that hit you in the hands evidently.
Let me say .. I was stoked when we drafted him ... as my daughter goes to ECU so I saw many of his games and I am disappointed in his play this year ... but not ready to label a bust ... secondly I was in the end zone at that Carolina game with him running right at me that throw was long ... it would of been a hell of a catch. The Carolina game was lost due to a BS offensive pass interference call, a missed facemask against Shady all on final drive ... and zero offense all game long (it was a damn soccer match) .. all kicks.

Maybe with better coaching, game management, player management and decisions, we would be in much better shape than maybe getting the 6th seed in the playoffs.
WOW ... no one thought before the season we'd be at where we are at this stage ... Did you?
Right, wrong, or indifferent .... he isn't afraid to challenge the status quo and shake things up ... I like that ... I'd rather try something new and fail then not have the nuts to try it at all. This year is purely like a poker hand and determining what "cards" (i.e. players) he wants to go "all in" with and take into years 2 & 3 ... the wins this year (though killing our draft position) are a bonus .. TRUST THE PROCESS.

This is a tough vote as we don't know what we'll do with the 2018 pick ... that said I voted to do the same ... I think Watson was AWESOME this year .. but two caveats ... we don't have anything close to his WR's (Hopkins / Fuller) .. though I did think Zay Jones would of stepped up more this year than we've seen (saw a lot of him at ECU as my daughter goes there .. so was pumped when we picked him) ... given the glaring hole post Gilmore departure ... totally happy and frankly more impressed than I thought with Tre White's play ... plus he's a better dancer in the snow than Watson.

For only one reason ... improve our draft position .... bottom line .. we don't have a QB ... so why piss away the couple wins Tyrod gets and move down the draft board ... in the rare chance we make the playoffs .. .do we really think this team stands ups to 2 games vs. the Pats?
There OL is as bad as I can recall ... between Jets sacks and what we saw yesterday ... DL .... Shaq Lawson actually touched the QB with the ball in his hand ... WOW.
We knew when McD and Beane were brought in .. we had a long way to go ... don't let the first 5 wins (a surprise to many on this board .... please look at preseason win estimates) think we were something we're not ... not yet ... all you had to do is look at the roster.
Lastly ... not the subject of this thread .. but Sammy is doing nothing in LA ... so stop saying that was a stupid trade. It was a bad trade up draft pick ... better to move on.

Do we really think we were a Super Bowl team this year?
If not why not play Nate ... the positives
- See what we have in Nate ... makes our QB decision in 2018 draft a lot easier
- We lose maybe (maybe not) 2-3 more games and improve 2018 draft position
- We actually throw a pass with anticipation
- We actually throw balls to the WRs
- We actually go to a 2nd / 3rd progression vs. trying to run
- we throw for more than 60 yards in 3+ quarters
The negatives
- Lose the locker room .. who knows?
- We lose more games (see bullet 2 above) .. to quote the Philadelphia 76'ers .. TRUST THE PROCESS ... improve the draft position
- We don't make the playoffs ... REALLY ... I'm not satisfied with one and done in week 18 .. if that were to occur ... please look at the AFC leaders and then look at our last two games vs. the Jets and Saints ... not throwing in the towel .. but we have a lot of issues .. though that said . .many of us wouldn't believe 5 wins at this stage of the season given all the early season trades
I'm rooting for Nate ... let's see what happens

Yes. Plainly they are moving on from Tyrod Taylor. Or possibly they are trying to wake him up.
Against the Jets we scored 7 points during the portion of the game where it was not a sure loss.
Against the Saints we scored 3. When you score 10 points in 2 weeks you have to do something when you are dealing with a 7th year pro.
Or so I think.
I agree with you all who say that we may spend just one high pick on a qb if things go well. That makes sense.
Let me say this though. I know Peterman was chosen in the 5th for a reason. And I know even a high first rounder has about a 50-50 chance of turning out well.
On Peterman's first day at camp, his first day, I watched him reading the defense and picking at the seams in the zone defense.
Someone posted a vidoe of him doing that from last game so you can see what I mean. He sees what is happening, and the throws to the spot where he knows the gap will be, before the receiver even makes his cut.
I am no football genius I freely admit. But I have been going to camp for 13 years now. No rookie could do that. And we have had multiple starters who could not do that. Tyrod can not do this.
On his first day of camp Peterman could. That is very different. I was amazed.
Maybe he has other big flaws, but I think maybe he might be good enough. And i think the coaches might think he might maybe be good enough too.
That is the best clip in terms of showing the play / open gaps I've ever seen .. is this a one time thing or can this be found all the time?

KB can be resigned with all that dead cap $ Dareus is holding down. I'm not sure what kind of contract Beane would offer KW is all so I think he could retire. If it's a team friendly deal maybe? KW being a wall member is a topic of it's own, a good one at that right there with Fred Jackson IMO.
Agree McCoy ... Freddy and Kyle were cut from the same cloth ... great leaders and motors for the lean years and both should be celebrated for their contributions.

I see 9-7 tops (still can get in the playoffs with that i think too)
Losses: NO, NE, NE, KC ((given what we looked like vs. Jets and fact a road Game .. don't want to .. but will sub LAC - Rivers, Gordon, Henry, Bosa etc. vs. Jets - McCown, Forte, ASJ))
Wins: IND, MIA, MIA ((All I want for XMAS IS TO beat NE at home)) I've been a good boy this year Santa
Could go either way: LA ((Will trade out NO here .. home game for Bills and Dome team outdoors) ... we'll see ... Miami Road Game Scares Me above

Every week we should root against KC given we hold their first ... HOW BOUT THEM COWBOYS!!!!
Zeke run likes it's your last week playing for a while .. wait that was last week ... ERR .. no that was the week before ... ERR ... just run ... who know you may play next week as well.
-
I no particular Order ... but maybe
QB (if right one is there) .. Thoughts on Mayfield?
DT -- Need bodies for Dareus trade and aging Williams if returns at all
OT - I want Incognito's nephew if one exists ... Big Nasty
TE - Clay can't stay healthy .. though like him ... he has Watkinsitis ... O'Leary is serviceable but not the answer .. hated that fumble last week
LB - If Kuechly or Thomas (McD's Panther LB's) are in the draft .. go get them
WR - Hopefully Zay's game last week are more of things to come and impressed he came back from that ugly knee tweak ... but ... need bodies there too

I agree KW will most likely retire.
Out of that list I think Gaines and JMatt should be resigned.
I'm not sure on KW retiring .. if he likes the McD kool aid and he can see the light at the end of the playoff / competitive team rainbow .. maybe he sticks but at a reduced price (he is obviously WALL of FAME material) and I'd like to see him experience the resurgence if his body can hold up.
Other than that on the list many are expendable .. but I'd prefer to see Matthews but I'd rather save Money for '18 or restructure Benjamin ... and keep Gaines & Wright ... Joe Webb goes as we will draft another QB and Nate ain't going anywhere.

There is another way to fix this. Add another bye week for each team and then all Thursday games are played by teams coming off a bye with the exception of opening week. This does 2 things the bye gives longer prep for the Thursday game and then it follows that with a long week for the next game. This would probably have to be part of the next labor contract, but I think both sides would get what they want and I think we fans would get better games.
THIS is truly a GREAT IDEA ... I never thought about it ..but it does make perfect sense .. teams would look forward to Thursday games and it would enhance the product (hence revenue money) both with extra week for regular season and quality of Thursday nght Games ... BLARGO you are a genius.
As far a Ritchie ... I like him .. glad we got him ... he typically rocks out there ... but when you got whopped like you and the rest of your teammates did (7 sacks on Tyrod when compared to Jets Sacks all season prior to the game) .. don't go for the kleenex .. you're better than that.

A 3rd is an excellent trade for the Bills. I dont even count the 7th because thats like Beane telling the Panthers well pay for shipping.
Now this was funny from earlier :D
-
With 56 pages of comments ... I can't read them all before typing this .. so this may of already been pointed out ... but if I have this right in reference to Watkins trade with the Benjamin trade where a #1 WR was traded away and a #1 WR acquired in a later trade .. at the end of the day.
For 2017 -- We got EJ Gaines, Kelvin Benjamin, and a 2nd round pick in 2018.
We gave up Sammy, a 3rd rounder and a 7th in 2018.
Works for me.
Good work Beane!!!
Brian Daboll hired as new OC

Wow . a lot of reading ... but about lost my coffee on this one .. when they showed Daboll's prior Offensive Rankings as NFL OC .. then Gugny compared to our team's recent Offensive (this word does have 2 pertinent definitions) performance.
Interesting ... he may have longer timing leash as McD .. may be here a little while ... knock on wood
Agreed .. enough with the Panther retreads ... glad they went outside the Charlotte to Buffalo connection
Appears given all the pending changes to the NE staff .. he was either going to go with some of his alumni to their new coaching gigs or back to NE ... so if we finally stole something from those guys ahead of time as their busy getting ready for the Jags .. good by me.
