1. The Point System

In the world of romance, one single rule applies to the men: Make the

woman happy. Do something she likes, and you get points. Do something

she dislikes, and points are subtracted. You don't get any points for

doing something she expects. Sorry, that's the way the game is played.

Here is a guide to the point system

    ==============================

    SIMPLE DUTIES:

    You make the bed. (+1)

You make the bed, but forget the decorative pillow. (0)

You throw the bedspread over rumpled sheets. (-1)

You go out to buy her what she wants. (+5)

    In the rain. (+10)

    But return with beer. (-15)

You check out a suspicious noise at night. (0)

You check out a suspicious noise and it is nothing. (0)

You check out a suspicious noise and it is something. (+5)

You pummel it with an iron rod. (+10)

    It's her pet. (-25)

    ==============================

    SOCIAL ENGAGEMENTS:

You stay by her side for the entire party. (0)

You stay by her side for a while, then leave to chat with a college

    buddy. (-2)

    Named Tina. (-4)

    Tina is a dancer. (-10)

    Tina has breast implants. (-80)

    Really big breast implants. (-200)

    ==============================

    HER BIRTHDAY:

You take her out to dinner. (0)

You take her out to dinner and it's not a sports bar. (+1)

Okay, it is a sports bar. (-2)

    And it's all-you-can-eat night. (-3)

It's a sports bar, it's all-you-can-eat night, and your face is

    painted

the colors of your favorite team. (-10)

    ==============================

    A NIGHT OUT:

You take her to a movie. (+2)

You take her to a movie she likes. (+4)

You take her to a movie you hate. (+6)

You take her to a movie you like. (-2)

    And it's called "DeathCop". (-3)

You lied and said it was a foreign film about orphans that were

    featured  on "Oprah". (-15)

    ==============================

    YOUR PHYSIQUE:

You develop a noticeable potbelly. (-15)

You develop a noticeable potbelly and exercise to get rid of it. (+10)

You develop a noticeable potbelly and resort to baggy jeans and baggy

    Hawaiian shirts. (-30)

You say, "It doesn't matter, you have one too." (-10,000)

    ==============================

    ENJOY THE 'BIG' QUESTION:

She asks, "Do I look fat?" (-5)

[Yes, you LOSE points no matter WHAT you say.]

    You hesitate in responding. (-10)

    You reply, "Where?" (-35)

    Any other response. (-20)

    ==============================

    COMMUNICATION:

When she wants to talk about a problem, you listen, displaying what

looks like a concerned expression. (0)

You listen for over 30 minutes. (+50)

You listen for more than 30 minutes without looking at the TV. (+500)

She realizes this is because you have fallen asleep. (-5,000)

With a point system like that a guy cant win unless of course you forgot to list points earned for lovemaking :)

  2. Who has a Charlies Near By.  There is one in Big Flats, Near Elmira/Corning.  I don't know where the chain started, but all there subs are grilled and they serve great Fries and homemade lemonade.

    353989

Great Avatar, whats amazing is they let this guy into US after confiscating the bloody chainsaw

  3. Best numbers I've seen (from reliable sources - PM me, I'll give you the list), put it in the 30-45 million range - but which portion of that is Stalin's direct responsibility, which is the Nazis', and which is arguably shared is indeterminate, at best.  And though JSP's observations are correct, that still doesn't change the fact that the Western Allies never faced more than 30-35% of the German army.

And even aside from all that...61 years and 2 days ago, Rome fell.  In one week, it'll be 61 years since the Army and Marines hit the beaches on Saipan - an invasion as big and complex as Normandy with consequences as important if not moreso than Normandy's.  61 years ago this June 22, the siege of Imphal was lifted, which cost the Japanese an entire army and the initiative in the CBI theater.  June 22nd is also the 61st anniversary of Operation Bagration, where the Russians utterly annihilated an entire German Army Group and eliminated more divisions from the German Army than the Western Allies even faced.

But let's all pretend that D-Day is the end-all and be-all of the war.  How many Americans even know about the fall of Rome, the Great Marianas Turkey Shoot, the Indians at Kohima-Imphal, or The Destruction of Army Group Center?  We are a seriously ignorant !@#$ing country.

    352366

Thanx for the reminders but not to make this political maybe it would be good if this history was taught in better in both American and European Schools as well as the True History of the American expansion westward

  4. Soldiers, Sailors and Airmen of the Allied Expeditionary Forces: You are about to embark upon the Great Crusade, toward which we have striven these many months. The eyes of the world are upon you. The hopes and prayers of liberty-loving people everywhere march with you. In company with our brave Allies and brothers-in-arms on other Fronts you will bring about the destruction of the German war machine, the elimination of Nazi tyranny over oppressed peoples of Europe, and security for ourselves in a free world.

Your task will not be an easy one. Your enemy is well trained, well equipped and battle-hardened. He will fight savagely.

But this is the year 1944! Much has happened since the Nazi triumphs of 1940-41. The United Nations have inflicted upon the Germans great defeats, in open battle, man-to-man. Our air offensive has seriously reduced their strength in the air and their capacity to wage war on the ground. Our Home Fronts have given us an overwhelming superiority in weapons and munitions of war, and placed at our disposal great reserves of trained fighting men. The tide has turned! The free men of the world are marching together to Victory!

I have full confidence in your courage, devotion to duty and skill in battle. We will accept nothing less than full victory!

Good Luck! And let us all beseech the blessing of Almighty God upon this great and noble undertaking.

    351877

Who was the speaker of the above, this is a great sendoff to the many troops who didnt return or survive that day and the following days?

Having been born on the 15th anniversary of this great day has always made it a special day for me. When people ask what my Bday is I always say I was born on the 15th anniversary of D-DAY( glad weather forced a delay to the 6th). Many people remember the date but I am finding way to many people who have no clue as to what day that was or even the year.

  5. No - the $90 is for the "Superfan" package which includes HD games, interactive features, plus some extras like the "every game in 30 minutes" thing.  If you want HD, you HAVE to get the entire Superfan package.

And not every game will be in HD -- only a select few (whichever ones the networks film in HD).  Next year ('06), they'll all be in HD.

Sorry for not making that clear the first time.

    CW

    338199

Just got a note from DTV folks that claim that unless you have superfan package you will not see any of the sunday ticket games in HD. Called a CSR today and they claimed differently. I guess will have to wait till week 1 to find out what the real story is

  6. You don't need to buy the monthly HD package to get the NFL games in HD -- the "SuperFan" thing is completely separate from the HD package.

You DO have to pay an extra $90 for the HD, plus the extra features they're talking about like watching an entire game in 30 minutes (cutting out all the misc crap and showing only the game), stuff like that.

Last year, all the HD games were included in the normal Sunday Ticket package.

I'm still debating whether to buy it or not, but I probably will...

    CW

    338185

CW, So your saying the way you understand the extra 90$ is only for special features of the HD broadcast versus just seeing whatever HD games are available like last year? OR do you think the 90$ is for seeing whatever HD games are broadcast? If the would gurantee all games in HD the 90$ extra is still a bargain. I guess I will have to call DTV to find out since I hadnt seen a thing in my bill.

  7. was reading on message board that DTV was chargin extra 99$ for the HD sunday ticket broadcasts? Does anyone know this to be true if you also have the HD package from DTV. Let me know so I can call them and get the retention folks to give me some kind of credit or upgraded tivo for my worries.

Fez I am sure you have the accurate scoop.

  8. Thats pretty cool.  I miss hockey.

    329639

You know it would be great is ESPN picked up the AHL playoffs. With Empire gone not a chance to see Amerks at all :-(. I bet they are no longer on 1180WHAM so u could at least pick up the game this far south once night falls

  9. DirecTV  changed the rules this year, requiring a base package for Sunday Ticket (as you noted).  So, if you want the ticket, you'll have to subscribe.

This is actually a good thing (for normal subscribers) because everyone is subsidizing the Ticket which is how they keep the price so low (I paid $179 last year).  Ditch cable, DirecTV is much better quality and customer service.  Plus, they just launched a new sattelite which will give them the ability to broadcast 1,500 HD channels. :D  (the downside is that you'll probably need new hardware to see them).

To find the cheapest, login to DirecTV.com and look at the packages.  I think the cheapest package is roughly $40/month but I havn't looked in awhile.  Since you're already technically a customer, you won't qualify for the cool deals unfortunately ;)

You can get a DirecTV/TiVo unit for no more than $99 from pretty much anywhere.  You'll LOVE it, trust me.  You can also try calling DirecTV and asking for "Customer Retention Department" and see if they'll give you one for free if you sign up for the base package for a year.  Well worth it.

Ditch cable, it sucks :P (my condolenses to CL)

    CW

    323231

Plus folks worry about local channels etc, in some area a decent over the air antenna will pick up the local HD signals but not sure its worth it given what Fez said since by end of year most local HD signals on DTV will be available. When you look at DTV price for the basic package and Tivo there is no way the cable can compete. Dont buy that cable doesnt have issues in weather etc crap I have had DTV for 10 years now and my totaly outages to date have been less than one month of outage I had on cable after Hurricane Fran came thru the neighborhood.

Also for some who qualify on the current HD package you can get ABC and NBC east/west coast feeds and maybe Fox and CBS however in Raleigh the local CBS and Fox wont let ya have the network signal :(

  10. Van Miller (who is sadly really starting to show his age)

    321948

It really is sad but he is in his upper 70's ( I believe turns 77 this year)But I remember listening to him call games back in 60's when I was to to young to go to games and than all those days in the stadium listening to him call the game.

I think a full throwback Uni, including helmet, to our 65 championship team would be fitting

  11. Remember last year how we were pissed at Henry for "tripping" over the yard line and not getting a first down?  Well McClendon would not only trip over that line, but he would also get injured and be out for three weeks.  I'm a bit of an NC State fan and I did like what McClendon did for them, but he missed way too many games to take seriously in the NFL.  I hope he proves me wrong and does well in the NFL, but I just don't see him lasting longer than 3 years.

    319089

He might last 3 years but only in calendar time, guy cant stay healthy so think 2 - 4 games a year. I remember his freshman year at State looked like a great back in making but even than always had that nagging injury alot like Travis

  12. Since the church resists change/cannot change,I do have a few questions for the new Pope:

    1. Leviticus 25:44 states that I may possess slaves, both male and female, provided they are purchased from neighboring nations. A friend of mine claims that this applies to Mexicans, but not Canadians. Can you clarify? Why can't I own Canadians?

    2. I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price for her?

    3. I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her period of menstrual 'uncleanness' - Lev.15: 19-24. The problem is how do I tell? I have tried asking, but most women take offense.

    4. When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a pleasing odor for the Lord - Lev.1:9. The problem is, my neighbors. They claim the odor is not pleasing to them. Should I smite them?

    5. I have a neighbor who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2. clearly states he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself, or should I ask the police to do it?

    6. A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an abomination - Lev. 11:10, it is a lesser abomination than homosexuality. I don't agree. Can you settle this? Are there 'degrees' of abomination?

    7. Lev.21:20 states that I may not approach the altar of God if I have a defect in my sight. I have to admit that I wear reading glasses. Does my vision have to be 20/20, or is there some wiggle-room here?

    8. Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by Lev. 19:27. How should they die?

    9. I know from Lev. 11:6-8 that touching the skin of a dead pig makes me unclean, but may I still play football if I wear gloves?

    10. My uncle has a farm. He violates Lev.19:19 by planting two different crops in the same field, as does his wife by wearing garments made of two different kinds of thread (cotton/polyester blend). He also tends to curse and blaspheme a lot. Is it really necessary that we go to all the trouble of getting the whole town together to stone them? Lev.24:10-16. Couldn't we just burn them to death at a private family affair, like we do with people who sleep with their in-laws? (Lev. 20:14)

    309496

I see you watch the West Wing when Bartlett grilled the conservative reverend!!!!!

  13. You won't get disagreement from me, but you are wrong as far as Catholics go. The word tossed about before was "transfiguration," which is not right. The correct term is transubstantiation, and it is Catholic dogma.

    From Wiki's transubstantiation definition:

    309456

Correct this is why in a presbyterian church I attend once in a while they serve grape juice not wine.

  14. The Catholic doctrine is that the act of sex is directly connected to procreation. Any attempt to undermine that duality is deviant to the will of God. Hence, abortion, contraception, gay and lesbian relationships, etc, all fall under the banner of deviant practice. Since God sanctifies sex/procreation only within the bond of marriage, adultery and bigamy are out too.

This has been a formula for most winning religions/cultures through the millenia, since this also corresponds strongly with the evolutionary purpose of our DNA. Taking it up the pooper doesn't produce the next generation of the species. Running from bed to bed does not provide a proper environment for offspring. The Church might say it's the Word Of God that tells us this, but there also is much common sense which ties these doctrines to speci-societal survival.

You'll notice that, besides traditional Catholics (I'm sure Pope Benny would consider the so called liberal Catholics who support abortion/contraception/free-love/deviant sex to be in apostasy), the culture which most promotes values which tend to increase the "size of the herd" if you will, is Islam. Is it any wonder they're the fastest growing religion? They're popping out the most little suicide bombers. Don't worry, we'll make more, they say... and they do.

In the numbers game, Europe and Russia just aren't procreating fast enough to avoid being overtaken sometime in this century, and when the numbers finally tip you'll see the green flag flying over Paris, and Berlin, and Stockholm and Oslo too. A pope upholding the traditional doctrines, and the traditional 'self-evident truths' about the nature of the relationship between man and God, should not really be such a surprise. Those taking the long view can conjecture that this is what Armageddon and the survival of the Church and Christianity as we know it is all about. As Europe secularizes and welfarizes, it diminishes it's own culture while at the same time introducing the strain that will ultimately replace it.

That is, if you believe the theories of one Charles Darwin to be correct.

    309424

So u are saying that the catholic doctrine prevents married couples from having sex unless its for procreation? So I guess if wife is post child bearing or had to have ovaries removed for medical purposes etc that any sex after is a sin? Hmm maybe thats why my parents go to confession so much

  15. Maybe so.  Although I suspect you're derisive in your suggestion, maybe they have a better handle on what it means to be a Christian.  It's too bad that people like you would rather force out elements of change in your Church rather than considering what they have to say.  Like I said the vote for the most conservative of Cardinals indicates to me that the Church is obstinate in its refusal to consider reform.  I simply don't want to be a part of that anymore.

    309278

No one is forcing you to stay its a personal decision one makes. Whatever you decide is your decision.

I would suggest you wait a while and see what happens since some hardliners were best reformers!

  16. I'd take Rolle.

    307960

same here this guy is a great returner and seems like he has good coverage skills.

I think the Silver Fox is playing a bunch of NFL GMs at this time working on best scearios to help out his team. Amazing how many people wanted him to pull the trigger on Arz deal and now many more options present themselves!!!!
