Got nothing to do with the Bills run game stinking and that part of the offense needs to work to win this game

I can see why Gruden is doing what he is doing and that is to clear money for the team to bring in younger, cheaper players. The Raiders have a cap imbalance in that they have 100 million in offense and 52 million on the defense The thing is that Gruden will never be happy with any QB unless he finds a Brainiac who can memorize a 1000 plays so when Gruden calls some obscure play he will know what it is that is being called. This whole thing feels like another Chip Kelly debacle and I don't see Gruden in Oakland very long if that team doesn't win by next year.

When you look things over the Buffalo Bills passing offense is actually way worse then the Cardinals and if you go by QBs, Peterman is as bad as Rosen, if not worse. The credit goes to Josh Allen for not turning the ball over more and not the OC because Peterman is a turnover machine. Right now Buffalo is the 32nd team in the NFL in total offense, 32nd in first downs, 32nd in passing, 18th in rushing but that is because McCoy is so special. Chris Ivory has a 2.5 YPC avg. Allen has a 4.4 YPC avg. LeSean McCoy is 30th in rushing yards with a 4.0 YPC avg and Shady should be a top five rusher except that the Bills OC didn't call his number very often in the first few games. Going back to the numbers Buffalo is 32nd in receiving. If the only QB on the roster was Nathanial Peterman I think Daboll would also have been fired by now! Fire OC Daboll, and line coach Juan Castillo and replace the OC with Terry Robiskie the WR coach, replace the line coach with assistant line coach Andrew Dees. These men couldn't do much worse. This is results oriented business and having the very worst results should have consequences.

They did! Steve Tasker stated on his show that the Bills were in talks with Anderson before they signed AJ McCarron and he was weighing options of which team to choose to sign with. The Bills FO knows Anderson from his time at Carolina and that he did well in mentoring Cam Newton. So this is the Veteran QB the Bills were eyeing all along. They also knew that he wasn't going to give them a hard time while being a backup like McCarron would have done as he wanted to start. As far as Peterman is concerned I can see why this FO went with him as the starter for the season/Ravens game as he did so well in preseason as he had an insanely good completion percentage of 80% and was fourth in passing with 440 yards. McCarron stunk in preseason especially for most of the game against the Bears until they brought in their third stringers. Although, the FO has no excuse for keeping Peterman as a backup QB after that horrid performance against the Ravens week one. This FO did it right considering the options at hand at that time in terms of QBs at the start of the season, IMHO. The bigger problem is with the offensive line, WR corps and I can only think that there weren't what they considered better options out there. The Bills are very lucky that Josh Allen's injury wasn't more severe. Let's hope that Anderson does well enough and the Bills OC simplifies the offense while calling more running plays so that Allen can sit, learn and develop properly.

He, Mayfield and Darnold were all considered more NFL ready than Allen. Shoot, I can recall Aikman stating during the draft that he would take Rosen over Allen because of his being more NFL ready and his superior accuracy.

With all that deep speed it's kind of surprising that Daboll couldn't figure out how to get a connection between Allen and Foster to keep defenses honest. There must have been some sort of Alabama connection somewhere. Anyway, cheers to a WR that will actually catch the passes thrown to him.

I can understand why a HC would want to see for themselves how a player performs in their own system/scheme before fully evaluating them in regards to Edwards. The offensive line was so bad that year that when Fitz started playing he was literally running for his life most of the games before Nix finally brought in help off the waiver wire. There was a viable reason for that 0-8 start. Fitz could handle it and Edwards couldn't. We all saw that Fitz would get to the line and bark out protections and even then he would end up running. Edwards was hapless in those situations. Kinda like Allen has been this year when Daboll doesn't run the ball and calls mostly pass plays in the first few games. The difference being Allen is fearless and tries to do his best and Edwards was at a point in his NFL career where he was basically already ruined from previous concussions. The bottom line though is as far as Peterman is concerned the only pick he threw in three preseason games was off the hands of Ivory. Plus, he completed 80.5% of his passes which is sorta insanely good. Yes, Peterman lacks the arm strength to make those out throws like Allen can but he also gets the ball out so much faster with a quick decision. Also for anyone who threw more than 33 passes Peterman threw for the 4th most yards in preseason (431). So, looking at everything I can see why someone who isn't an offensive minded coach (McD) would look at this and think that player is good enough to start or be a backup QB going into the 2018 season. That said, McD has no excuse for even keeping Peterman on the roster after that Ravens game performance. Things should have drastically changed right after that game with the QB situation. The only thing I can think of is that the offensive coaches (Daboll, Culley) must be telling the Bills FO that things can improve with a young, inexperienced QB. Otherwise I can't comprehend why the guy is still even on the roster. If Peterman can't make those out throws that went for a pick six, then who called that play? After all the guy did throw a perfect 16 yard TD pass to Zay Jones, and then later on completed a 20 yard pass on 3rd and 15 to Andre Holmes. Then with 4:46 left on the clock on 3rd down and 2 at the Bills 41 Daboll calls a run up the middle with Ivory for no gain. From my perspective the problems on offense are mostly because of the ineptitude of the current offensive coaches, OC, line coach. I really can't fault the Bills HC, GM for relying on the assistant coaches to do their jobs. If McD wants to keep his job, I gotta wonder if we will see another 10 games of this offensive mess.

Looking over what's happened with the Buffalo Saber's over the last few years I doubt the owners are that impatient so they become furious in the next few weeks. We Bills fans might become that way...at least some might. Looking over what happened with Peterman, AJ McCarron and now Derek Anderson from what Steve Tasker stated on his show was that the Bills were interested in signing Anderson at the same time they were looking to sign AJ McCarron. Anderson was contemplating different option's with other teams before he finally agreed to sign with Buffalo and that was mostly to be a mentor to Allen. I kind of doubt he thought he would be put in the position of starting. Looking at Andersons history with Carolina and his relationship with Cam Newton and how he mentored Newton. I can now see why the team FO waited to sign a veteran QB they knew would be okay with being a backup and could actually have a value to mentor Allen. As far as Peterman in concerned I can see why this offensive coaching staff was fooled by Peterman into thinking he could be the starter while Allen develops. Trent Edwards also managed to fool Chan Gailey by working hard, trying hard, doing everything right in practice. Peterman is also young and inexperienced and the thinking must be that he will get better with more development time. My take is the main problem right now is that because McD is defensive minded he must be relying on his offensive coaching staff for input on these QBs and clearly like Chan Gailey they have no clue. Gailey was extremely lucky that Fitz was on the team because he stated in training camp that Brian Brohm, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Trent Edwards were all about equal in ability...which they weren't...not even close. Fitz also stated that nobody ever worked with him on his mechanics, setup, delivery before QB coach David Lee worked with him before the 2012 season. Lee did manage to screw up Fitz that year. So Gailey was no QB guru and I highly doubt from what I've seen so far from Brian Daboll, David Cully are either. If anyone becomes furious I think it might be McD at some point over the next few weeks as he watches Daboll do to Anderson what he did to Allen is forcing him to carry the entire offense by passing all game long. Anderson should be okay if not asked to do too much and that I mean by mostly handing the ball off to Shady and managing the game with 3rd and short situations. I think McD wants to win games and hates seeing his defense get screwed over by a bad offensive like they were against the Texans. If all these offensive penalties continue with players killing drives because they don't know where to line up, false start, hold. Even good veteran QBs would have difficulty overcoming 12 penalties for 104 yards that kept killing drives. So, If anything happens it might be McD replacing Daboll with Terry Robiskie after the next few weeks if things don't get corrected.

And obviously way too complicated for a rookie QB to handle, or even for the limited talent on the line, WR corps. Things should have been simplified from the very start with a freaking rookie QB. So many Bills fans have been saying that the offense has been far too complex for a rookie QB to execute especially when he finds himself behind in points, with no run game and the entire offense now placed on his shoulders. Bill Parcells would go over the offensive game plan each week and throw away all but around 25 offensive plays and he would tell them work on those until you get them right. Running the ball and playing great defense worked then and it can work in todays game. The thing is you can't have so many screw ups with penalties and botched special teams and that's on coaching. 12 penalties for 112 yards is drive killing and damn well ridiculous, that is on coaching. These are highly paid professional players that shouldn't be making stupid mental mistakes with penalties over and over to kill drives. McD needs to break a foot off on some of these coaches. He should make them work it until they get it right! This offensive coaching staff sucks as bad as the player talent on offense. Except the coaching staff has no elite coach like the Bills have in a player like McCoy who has been underutilized all year so far.

While I agree that talent is lacking on the offense in the players. I also believe the talent is lacking in the coaches. I mean c'mon now 12 penalties for 104 yards and players not lined up where they are supposed to be lined up among other screwups. These men are professional players, so how do they not know how to do their jobs? One word! COACHING! Most Bills fans wouldn't put Nathan Peterman in a game so why do the coaches do it? They do it because the kid is inexperienced and needs to play to develop. He is a very hard worker and does all the right things in practice, works hard, studies hard, tries hard and yet screws up in games because he doesn't know the limitations of his own arm. THIS IS ALSO COACHING! The coaches should be able to recognize a players ability to get it done in a game by watching him in practice. That is "IF" they know what they are doing! If you look at this years offense you see that there is no elite talent on the offensive line and really only one good player in LT Dion Dawkins. DT Kyle Williams will tell you all day that good players on the D line make other players better at doing their jobs. The better a player is the better he helps make the players around him better. When you have a line full of scrubs it doesn't do much for anyone. While Incognito, Woods might not have been elite players. They were both really good players who helped make the players around them look better. That said the same goes for the WR corps as the Bills have no elite players at WR and perhaps one good player who is being utilized all wrong as he doesn't have break away speed or the ability to get great separation. What he does have is amazing size in being 6'5'' 245 LBs with is a clear mismatch against smaller DB's. So. It's up to the coaching staff to find ways to get him the ball over the top. Anyone else recall how Bill Walsh always had Jerry Rice receiving the ball with his body between the defender and the ball so the defender could not make a play on it. Yea, kinda like that! The Buffalo Bills do have one elite player on offense in LeSean McCoy and against the Texans he was averaging 4.6 yards per carry. So why only 16 carries for 73 yards? By the same token Chris Ivory averaged 0.8 YPC on 6 carries for 5 yards. This tells me when Ivory comes in the game the defense damn well knows who is getting the ball and they stop him. ALL THIS IS ON COACHING! McCoy being underutilized. Ivory put in bad situations. KB put in bad situations. Not running the ball enough. Not enough innovation, not enough screens, not enough roll outs, not enough misdirection plays. The toughest thing a defense can face is to start moving one way and then change direction and start running the other way. It literally wears a defense out. It's too bad that McD knows very little on how to run an offense or he could take it over and redirect things like other offensive minded coaches have done. Coaches like Sean McVay, Kyle Shanahan, Doug Pederson, Andy Reid and even Chan Gailey could get so much more out of the limited players on this roster. IMHO

And the difference is an experienced top 5 OC vs an OC who has never had a better than 25th offense with different QB's over a few years. Now Daboll could get better over time, It's just that him developing a rookie while attempting to learn and improve at his own job is the problem. The best offensive player on the 2018 Buffalo Bills is LeSean McCoy and 61 attempts over 5 games is showing that he is being underutilized and the game has been on the rookie QBs shoulders far too often. He is a rookie QB and shouldn't need to carry the offense all alone. 12 penalties for 124 yards is inexcusable and that is on coaching. Two screwups on special teams. One, a WR who has great difficulty catching passes shouldn't be on receiving kickoffs, punts. Two, a blocked punt simply shouldn't happen. Again, this is on coaching and the special teams coach stinks. The Bills OC stinks, the run game coordinator/line coach stinks. McD hired a very experienced NFL DC in Frazier, so why hire a bunch of bums to run the offense?

The only one I would want back in Buffalo is Hogan as the kid was usually catching first downs for the Bills. So many Bills fans call him a JAG and yet he would do a world of good for a rookie QB by catching those first down passes for the Bills.

While I like the OPs optimism it's very difficult for most fans to see considering that Texans game was very winnable...and yet it was lost by the backup QB who was the supposed starter going into the season. We Bills fans have seen this offensive ineptitude with Chan Gailey in that he states that QBs Ryan Fitzpatrick, Trent Edwards and Brian Brohm are all about equal and any one could emerge as the starter in preseason. Gailey named Edwards the starter and he was so terrible he was outright cut after two starts. Fitz took over and literally ran for his life the first half of the 0-8 2010 season. Brohm got his shot and he was worse then Edwards. The point here is that Gailey couldn't tell jack **** about any of the QB's watching them in practice and it looks like Daboll is in the very same boat. The big difference is that Gailey could actually setup a functioning offense with not much to go with. Although he never did better then 6-10 in Buffalo primarily because of bad defenses. He did manage to allow Fitz to become a 3000+ yard passer, Stevie Johnson a 1000+ yard receiver and Spiller a 1200+ yard rusher. My take is the primary problem with the offense is the OC in Brian Daboll who has never had an offense better than top 25 with many different QBs. Juan Castillo the run game coordinator/line coach is another problem with that offensive line/run game that isn't anywhere near as good as it's been the last few seasons. The way this coaching staff has bungled the QB situation is difficult for Bills fans to deal with as Allen was supposed to sit and learn like Mahomes. Now because Peterman is so bad they might have to start the rookie with an injury which could end up ruining this players career. All that effort to move up to the #7 spot might be wasted. This season didn't need to be a rebuild year "if" only a proper experienced veteran QB had been on the roster day one. The offensive line and WR corps were better and lastly the offense being the worst in the NFL because the OC didn't utilize the offenses best player in McCoy for a lot of the season.
