  1. That's what happens when you draft for need and it's a weak class for the position you need.

That said - I think you're too down on the player.

I could be, but the whole Penn State game is on youtube and it is a disaster. A lot of guys I respect all say the same thing about him. Too many times in the past the Bills don't go with the common thought and get burned. They are not the smartest in the room, that is obvious.

  2. I have zero problem giving away 5ths to move into 2nd, but they need to be smart about who they are drafting there.

You should read this article: http://www.arrowheadpride.com/2015/2/20/8072877/what-the-statistics-tell-us-about-the-draft-by-round

Contrary to what people think, you are not going to get 7 starters from a draft. You are hopefully going to end up with 3. I would rather stock my odds with higher % of success than have more picks with low success rates. Give me a pick with 70% success rate than a lot of 15% success rate picks.

  3. I really hate this pick.

If you are going to spend a 3rd and two high 5ths on a guy, you better be damn sure the guy is starting at a position of need.

McDormett isn't even sure if he is a tackle, and the more I read on his weaknesses vs real competition, I struggle to see how he is an impact Day 1 player. Really think we will end up with a back up guard. A very high price for that.

  4. Whaley said himself he was integral in selecting EJ. He said EJ had the "it" factor. he tried pushing him on two different coaching staffs.

Whaley has said a lot of stuff to hide the dysfunction that was going on behind the scenes. Pushed him so hard that he signed two other QBs that started.

I'm not here to start a fight, just repeating what was said.

  5. Sal was pretty adamant that the Ej pick was not Whaley. He said it was pretty common knowledge that Buddy was taking him no matter what.

I do feel bad for Whaley, but he needs to get more of a backbone with the position he is in. He gets walked over too much. I think he is a real good talent evaluator, but lacks the ability to stand up for himself. I think he was just too young for the job. He really had no power and was not in the position to hold his ground.

  6. Not sure who heard Sal today, but he pretty much confirmed the names everyone else has been saying the Bills are targeting. His order:

    1. Adams

    2. Hooker

    3. Howard

    4. Reddick

    5. Williams

I think there is a very little chance all are taken before 10, so it seems one of them will be a Bill tomorrow.

  7. If any other team did what the Patriots did, they would be looked at as morons.

They revolve RBs anyways, look at the playoffs. Why are they paying all these RB 4 million?

Gilly was out of the NFL early 2015 and now he is some great back? The dude benefited from the number 1 rushing attack in NFL. We can plug and play RB just like GB/NE can plug and play WR.

  8. I'm really surprised that people are against WR. WR2 is the worst starting position on the team IMO. They need secondary help and a WLB but have guys that can play there (and there is a ton of secondary depth in the draft). Dennison's offense is going to throw the ball a lot more than Roman's. We watched horrendous WR play last year with Sammy out and even he isn't healthy. The offense has a chance to be dynamic but are missing a WR and now a #2 RB.

WR2 is a huge need, but I think that if there isn't an elite talent (Watkins, Jones, Green) I wouldn't even take one in the first.

WR is so contingent on the QB and usually the 1st through 6th rated WR (in non elite years) all have very similar talents.

  9. Jmho but i dont get why teams dont trade down non stop. Id treat every draft like a recruiting class. ( guys are gone after 4 yrs now)

Id literally trade down as much as possible per every round

Id try to get close to 15 picks or more.

Id treat the 1st round as a tool to live in rds 2-5

My draft would b something like

    2

    2

    2

    2

    3

    3

    3

    4

i want as many picks as possible. Screw the flash rb.

Two teams that have done this that stick out in my mind are Cleve and NE. Both have some of the worst drafting success. You need high picks. Just having picks doesn't guarantee anything.

  10. I really think he will end up being the best defensive player from this draft. He is just so versatile and has such a high motor/good attitude. I really hope he is the pick. Would fill a huge need an a very impactful position on McD defense. I love that he has cover ability (started as a safety), but is also a great pass rusher. He is exactly what this defense is missing. I think the some of the secondary holes can be hidden with playing zone. Will be tough to hide a bad LB in this defense. So much is expected from them. The way he took over games reminded me of Mack at UB.

  11. I said this in the shout box, but if the rumors are right that Carolina loves McCaffrey, that could push Fournette to 10. Teams know the Bills are not taking him, however, you know NO will if he is there. Teams like Philly (14th), Indy (15th), TB (19th) will for sure be calling to get ahead of NO, but also NO will be looking to move up 1 spot so these teams can't. I really think this is the only chance we have at moving down. I don't see any other player that teams will want to move up for.

  12. Most carries on a team who failed to run the ball, what exactly does that indicate? That he sucked? That CJ Anderson got hurt? Or both?

I already told you what I meant.

His numbers as a back up (games he didn't start) 76 carries 345 yards 4.5 average. We are looking for a back up here. You can get back up for cheap mid rounds.

  13. You use Booker as an example of success, he had one of the lowest YPC of any running back with significant carries. He was amongst one of the bigger disappointments at RB and Denver even tried to replace him with Kapri Bibbs.

Most carries on the Broncos as a 4th rounder. He was a better back up than starter, which is something MG is. My point is that we are looking for a back up and these guys can be found mid rounds for dirt cheap.

  14.

    3. I have always believed that in the first round you go for the Best Player Available (BPA) unless the talent level differences are not huge enough when drafting for need is relevant. Our 5 areas of need are - CB, WR, Safety, LB and OT. We actually are set up nicely since CB and WR are this draft's strengths.

This right here is what have got the Bills in a lot of trouble in the past. BPA is not the way you draft a team. You need to weigh all factors:

Holes on team, how impactful those holes are, depth at position in draft class, ability of other players to put the draft pick in position to succeed.

Too many time Bills just take the best player there (Watkins, Lawson, Spiller, etc.). Watkins didn't have a QB to get him the ball and that draft class was loaded. Spiller wasn't going to get the ball with the amount of depth at position. Lawson was not a position of need and the D line was strong already.

This year I would not draft a WR, CB or Safety in round 1. I personally would go with Reddick. LB is not deep, we have a huge need and he can step on the field right away and make a huge impact.
