  1. We are now the Giants that beat us in the first SB.

Run. Run, Ru, pass only when needed to physical receivers. No real speed threat on O.

    Tough DL and LB.

Based on the first PS game, I bet we feature Tolbert and Di Marco and not really Shady so much.

Only excitement will be the occasional Shady gash or TT scramble.

    Otherwise ? Paint drying.

All said, if the D is good, it's a winning formula.

I'll watch paint dry to 11-5 and a Wild Card birth.

  2. It would be a very Billsy thing to do by not going after a young, franchise type QB because Taylor had a good year.

    What is this, exactly ?

Way more misses than hits on "sure things".

    Won't belabor with a list.......nah, I

    l'll at least start it:

    - J Football

    - Bortles

    - Cutler

    - Pennington

    - Sanchez

    - RG3

    - Gabbert

    - Ponder

    - Leinart

    - Locker

TT is better than all of them right now. If he does steadily improve this season and the Bills keep him while developing Peterman or whoever, I'd be glad if that's Billsy.

  3. Whoa whoa whoa... I fully admit to being a former EJ guy who's now a Tyrod guy, and you can ask the former BBMBers because I was still that during that 3 way competition, but you're showing some serious bias here and it's a little revealing.

You talk about the preseason games as if that's all the QB competition consisted of, which it didn't. Yes, EJ looked good from our perspective because of all those "wow plays" we all so yearned for in his first couple years. We wanted him to let it loose and he did and it resulted in serious chunk yards and a handful of TDs. We love that as fans, but I doubt those are the plays that win a QB the starting job.

Taylor was good in those games too, but in executing more of the NFL passes that are the bread and butter of an NFL offense. Less gaudy numbers, but I doubt the coaches cared about numbers in the preseason.

And there's your entire neglect of practice, where coaches do most of their evaluation. Lots of accounts about Taylor playing really well and turning heads that summer. As for EJ...

This was the summer of the hospitality tent incident, remember? :flirt:

Been lurking or missing for a while but pointed out in 2015 - repeatedly - that Tyrod beat EJ and Ponder at VT at a 4-0 clip, including the ACCCG.

There was never a doubt in my mind that he would beat out Cassel and EJ.

As an admitted TT homer, however, I am really open minded this season to the true make or break. Compared to what most on this board thought he could do when he first was introduced, he's already shattered all but what the true homers (BuffaloHokie13 - this means you, too) knew he could do.

That said, he will still not surprise me if he can shred the league this season with quick passes and continue to gash with 20+ yd runs. Bills will finally have a real OC and supporting cast to take some load off of just him. He's proved he can lead and and carry an offense almost by himself - clearly not anyone's preferred MO. Playoffs were 1 game away both seasons.

Navigating playoffs and winning the Super Bowl (National Title) is the only thing that would resemble new ground for TT to take. Am admittedly less confident in that for 2017. If it doesn't happen, all anyone ever wants is a fair judgement if it doesn't go down perfectly.

It would be very easy to step way backwards at QB if "the passing game" is the scapegoat reason that a Lombardi Trophy doesn't come to Buffalo in 2017.

I don't know how I would act if the Bills actually made the Super Bowl and were up 28-3 in the 3rd quarter and lost in OT like the Falcons just did.

Crazy to hope that doesn't happen, yes ? no ? Ryan's fault ?

    Clearly time for bed ..

  4. all the bolded

I think so. a tad nervous as well, but that is part of the fun isn't it ?

Am not nervous about most of this - maybe Ragland and Lawson.

Taylor got measurably better every year even under a crappy OC at VT - not nervous at all about him getting better - not saying Super Bowl MVP or anything but this is still a focused man on a mission - no doubt he will get better - at least even with deserved increased expectations.

Been impressed with Sammy already - even with more than nagging injuries - and it's year 3 with TT as a a partner. Even Julio took a couple years to dominate.

Leslie Frazier - who was once a HC listening to a young whipersnapper ? - meh - professional and the right personality.

  5. 2016:

    Roman/Lynn OC

    Rex/Rob Ryan/Some other dude DC

    2017:

    Dennison OC

    Frazier DC

    Excited about that alone

    Throw in:

    Watkins Healthy

Ragland back (like an extra 2nd rounder)

    Lawson back - ditto

Tyrod - familiar system - and one he should thrive in - and is still in a "prove it" year

    Zay Jones - XFactor

    Logan Thomas - XFactor

Will be a fun team to watch regardless.

With McDermott's apparent measured style - I believe we will be in every game.

    Lots to be excited about.

  6. Tyrod has never lost a QB competition. He relishes them. It was for backup in Baltimore because Flacco was entrenched as starter. They brought in someone every season and TT crushed them for #2. He actually did beat Flacco too in scrimmages, too but little was ever said about it.

Crushed EJ and Cassel as well - it now seems comical but at the time it was 50% tops on this board that thought he would beat out those two.

FNG Peterman, TJ Yates and Cardale will be light work for TT. Even if he was being paid peanuts. Different level of talent.

    Ya'll are crazy but funny.

  7. Cal Ripken, Dirk Nowitzky, Tyrod Taylor. Nice.

and Brady. Not Cousins. And am sure not you. Can't get it - unable.

If the Bills don't draft a quarterback at ten we will be doing these same threads here next year. This organization is doing to Tyrod what Marrone was going to do with Kyle Orton.

Saving this post for next year.

  8. I'd say there are parallels to their play style, but to me Taylor is more of a passing QB than these other two. While Kaep and Griffin struggle to get past the first read, start watching the pressure and quickly bail and run. I find that Taylor scrambles and continues to look for targets down field and is an opportunistic runner. While he might still struggle reading the whole field from the pocket, he's still trying to throw the ball.

Some people like to rail on "4 years a back-up and 2 years starting! He is what he is!" I disagree. I think pocket awareness and reading the field can get better with live action experience and Taylor strikes me as a guy who recognizes his weaknesses and will work hard to improve in those areas. Most QBs in the league can do it in practice, a live game is entirely different and some players acclimate slower than others. We don't know who he is yet, but I hope he gets there soon.

Well said. Would also add - and was surprised nobody in this thread touched on it - that both RGIII and Kaep have displayed dooshy behavior - RGIII overinflating his play in Washington and being a locker room cancer, and Kaep letting himself get out of shape and the whole National Anthem thing.

Players and even fans who question his play dig Tyrod as the man - team first type guy, dedicated, gym rat, leader, simply lacks overall dooshiness.

  9. Zay Jones but he'll go before the 3rd. So will Chris Godwin probably.

Isiah Ford isn't a huge WR but is known for his body control and making great catches down the field. Malachi Dupre is tall and has upside.

Others like Josh Malone (trouble against press coverage), Bug Howard, Josh Reynolds, Darboh (Hands?), Amba Etta Tawo, J.Smith Schuster could all be options here. Sleepers like Golladay, Robert Davis, Jerome Lane, J.Robinette, Q.Ayebedejo could all be interesting later in the draft.

Isiah Ford ran slow at the combine (4.61) but improved it at his pro day (4.51). Dude was great at VT - silky smooth with, as you say, great body control - very much shades of Lynn Swan. At times was a man amongst boys - uncoverable.

He's thin and a little slow so with this loaded WR class, should fall to 3rd round. PLAYMAKER.

  10. I think we need to trade down, we have 4 major weak spots

1-will LB, even if Zach Brown re-signs here, I think he is best suited to play the Mike.

2-2nd WR, we have much better WR depth, but we need someone to take pressure off of Watkins

3-cornerback, Darby is fine, but Seymour is unproven. He could turn out to be suitable. We also need a Nickel unpgrade

4-RT, unless Glenn is moved there and Kujo starts at LT.

    How I'd address it.

First trade down, if we can get another pick in the top 100, we would be in good shape, ideally Cleveland who needs to move up to get their QB, they could give one of their stockpiled picks. Let's say it's a third round pick.

1st-Foster, I think the combine makes him slip a little.

Foster-ZBrown(hopefully)-Ragland makes me feel pretty good, with PBrown, Humber and Alexander as back ups, Alexander could also add a joker element.

2nd-Zay Jones-size and speed. Coaching staff knows him well.

3rd(a) best remaining CB, hopefully Witherspoon

I'd also add Alterraun Verner, he's a average zone corner we could use as a Nickel

3rd(b) David Sharpe OT, a Glenn clone 6'6" 345 with 35+ inch arms. Good movement skills and played in the SEC

    Nice address of real needs.

  11. Like:

    Bills

Vikes (someone does care about them)

    Falcons

    Packers

    Ravens

    Hate:

Patriots (tho they are GD impressive - so respect)

Cowboys (could jump Patriots this year in hate-ability if they are successful again - fan base is absolutely insufferable - at least P-men fans are quiet-ish)

    Redskins (see: Cowboys on fans)

    Seagulls

  12. If the season were to start today, here would be our starting lineups:

    Offense

    QB: Taylor

    RB: McCoy

    FB: DiMarco

    TE: Clay

    O-Line: Glenn/Incognito/Wood/Miller/Mills

    WR: Watkins/Holmes

    Defense

    DE: Hughes/Lawson

    DT: Dareus/K. Williams

    LB: Ragland/P. Brown/Alexander

    CB: Darby/Seymour

    S: Hyde/Poyer

    Special Teams

    K: Hauschka

    P: Schmidt

    LS: Ferguson

    KR: Tate/C. Brown

    PR: Tate/Hyde

So where are the most glaring weaknesses that still need to be filled via free agency and the draft??

To me, it has to be CB. Currently, the Bills have Darby/Seymour/L.Johnson/Roberson/Gaines as the only CBs on the roster. That ain't good folks.

Beyond that, there are depth problems galore.

    OFFENSE

DiMarco basically can play the role of a second TE because he can block (and unlike Felton) can actually catch the ball. Adding a much better RT will likely be a priority. I think the Bills can get by with what they have at WR. Unfortunately, they have way too many other problems to address before spending big on a WR.

Offensive priorities: Adding a solid RT plus a high quality backup QB and a second TE w/ some versatility. They had interest in RT A. Smith and QB J. McNown.

    DEFENSE

Ideally, you'd like to have a thumper at SS. Hyde and Poyer are cover guys and not very big at 190 lbs. Thus, SS is a need that must be filled.

Bigger than that though is the need for quality CBs. Darby and Seymour are decent. L. Johnson (formerly from Carolina) is probably next in line. I'd say that at least two quality CBs are needed or this team is in big trouble. The Bills have already tried to get D. Shead.

Defensive needs: CB, CB, SS, LB depth, DE depth.

    Your thoughts??

    Pretty good analysis.

    1a. DB's

    1b. Help for Sammy

    2. RT

    3. Solid BU QB

    4. BU TE (intrigued by Logan Thomas, tho)

good news is this draft is super deep in 1a, 1b, and 4.

  13. I expect the Bills to draft secondary early and often in this draft. This year is a rare opportunity to develop a dominant secondary with such a deep pool.

Hyde locks up one starting safety position, Poyer's contract seems to indicate a guy that is a backup for both safety positions and is a key special teams contributor. It appears we have a starting safety position open, I expect that to be filled in the first two rounds.

I think the Bills view Darby as a solid starter, but I think they would prefer to have Seymor as a nickel. Roberson showed some potential and should lock up the fifth spot. We need a starter, a 4th string, and a 6th string at this position (we should have at least six with NE going 4 WR every play). The Bills will address this in round 1 or 2.

WR is another position we need to add to early. Luckily this is a deep draft and we can find solid production from guys in the middle rounds. I think we can find a solid starter (for a run first team) in round 3. We have a great number 1, Listenbee could be a number 4, and Brown should be a number 5. We need a number 2 and a number 3 still. It would be nice to add a guy like Quick so we only have to add one guy in the draft.

We really need to add another developmental QB, we don't have the picks to do it right now. I think the Bills will look to trade down and add additional picks. I don't think there will be many suitors though as there is not a lot of separation in picks 15-90. We may add a guy like Evans in the 5th round.

1st round- I think the Bills are hoping that Hooker, Lattimore, or Adams fall to them. There is a decent chance of that happening. If not they will really try to trade down, but will most likely settle for Peppers or one of the top WRs.

2nd round- I expect the Bills to target a DB in the second round. Wilson, Tabor, Jackson, Moreau, and Awuzie are typically 1st round corners. One of these guys will fall to us.

3rd round- There are some great WR prospect flying under the radar right now. Cooper Kupp will drop because of his 40 time, probably only to late round 2. Samuel and Zay Jones will go in round 2. The guys I would hope for is Chad Hansen, he has everything you want in a 2nd WR. Godwin, Reynolds, and Cannon have some good number two qualities as well.

Round 5 and 6 we need to add a QB, DB, and TE. If we do all those thing we will be looking pretty good going into the year.

    Round 1- Jamal Adams S

    Round 2- Fabian Moreau DB

    Round 3- Chad Hansen WR

    Round 5- George Kittle TE

    Round 5- Jerod Evans QB

    Round 6- Erza Robinson DB

I could not have done any better except I think TE is OK with Clay and think (VT homer) Logan Thomas is a sleeper there. Just go WR or DB again there - but even that is a quibble given the deep TE class as well.

    Well done, sir.

  14. Yeah, today again we celebrate mediocricy. I'm pumped for another football season which I care nothing about. Go Bills????

I thought the games the last two seasons on the whole were leaps and bounds more entertaining and competitive than the past 15 years. The offense was actually exciting and fun to watch. You watch the same games ?
