I have no interest in taking you up on that wager.   You misinterpreted the statement that started that conversation the same way you misinterpreted my comments in the conversation you’re referencing now.  I respect your football takes, but you get so defensive when an opposing team’s fan dares have a different perspective that you become unreasonable.

Back to the point of this thread, though.  Seriously…re-read Taylor’s statement.  It’s pretty obvious that he was providing zero new information.

You are right on all of this only if Taylor was being extremely precise in his phrasing and with 100% certainty meant to say nothing new in terms of the timeline (in an intentionally ambiguous (perhaps "clever") way).  That could be true but it could also be false.

  2. Appreciate the effort compiling the data and presenting it in a digestible format.  As an economist, a chart like that might be a first step in the analysis.  But as others have stated, there are a bunch of variables that would need to be included to try to "explain" why some coaches reach their first Super Bowl quicker than others.  Some variables to consider: how many years as coordinator or head coach (i.e., coaching experience); whether a defensive or offensive coordinator previously; whether team in playoffs previous season; how many pro bowlers previous season; injury index; etc. etc.  Separately, there's the question of whether a SB appearance is the best way to measure the quality/success of a coach.

The kid is special talent at an unusual position. He has the skill and talent to start Day 1 and answer Allen’s goto slot guy.

But, he plays for Sean McBenchhim. He won’t start week 1 and see only spot duty throughout his rookie campaign. That’s the history with our HC.

    note; our CURRENT HC..

Hope we see something different right from the start of the season - Jets game is perfect time to have him active in the slot and productive there!

  4. I've gone back and forth on this in my head, but I think I come out that we should do whatever we can to get him ("swing for the fences"/"go all in").  While I think the Bills O will be strong no matter what, with DHop I think we would be virtually unstoppable, and that would mean the D would only have to be reasonably solid.  I also think that if we don't get him, there's no reason to blame Beane or point fingers.

I always look at momentum. In this prediction the Bills would limp into the playoffs having won only two of the last six games in other words more or less just twice in the final two months. So while I love the optimism, it’s really hard to turn the winning momentum back on come playoff time.

I actually feel that the term "momentum" is way overused (no offense to you personally).  It is really a "catch all" term to describe recent success a team has had "within game" or across games. But what does it really mean?  It's basically saying that the most recent results are the best predictors of the next results.  And when TV analysts say there's been a shift in momentum, they're just saying a big play or plays occurred which changed the fortunes of the teams!  Rant over - I guess that word is just a pet peeve of mine!  Carry on . . .

  6. It's a bit of a stretch, but my fraternity brother's daughter dates someone on the Tulane football team.  My buddy recently asked me for Buffalo food tips to pass along to his daughter and derivatively to Dorian - Fun connection!  Go Bills!!  PS, I said he should go to Duffs on Sheridan Dr

If we talked about this team anytime in September or October, I think it would have been hard to find a poster here who didn't think we were either the best team in the league, or at least even with the best.  We went to the house of the eventual SB champ, and beat them, without any breaks or anything flukey.   We had some blowouts.  The offense was clicking on all cylinders, and the defense - at that time - was pretty smothering.

Our losses were all 1 score, 1 play.  Cincy in the playoffs was the 1st time that any team took it to us, and just beat us up and down the field, all game.  THAT is now how many here now view the team. Very flawed, and much weaker than we thought.

But ultimately, it was just one game.  Teams lay eggs, and given how emotional the last month of the season was, it's easy to see in hindsight how that affected the team (and the Bengals were kind of the opposite, playing w/ a real chip on their shoulder).  They also may just be a bad match-up for the Bills, which I'm hoping will change w/ the change in DC.  I think Frazier's defense was very effective against quite a few teams - but against Cincy & those receivers, you have to be aggressive, and challenge them more at the line.

I don't buy the whole "we were already behind the top teams and now we're falling further behind" narrative of FA.  When healthy, we're still right there w/ the best teams - and we're rolling everything back minus Edmunds, and with a new guard, a faster receiver than we've had in awhile, and the draft still ahead.

I don't see us taking a step back in '23.  We'll be right there w/ the top teams.

One of the best posts I've seen here - Thanks for the insightful "put things in proper perspective" post!

Not holding KC’s receivers right off the line during 13 seconds was complete coaching malpractice and even if McD didn’t call that play he’s responsible for not overruling Frazier.

Frazier is done. I don’t care what the regular season looks like. Getting destroyed in 3 straight playoff games is more than enough evidence he can’t get us over the hump.

He's done in Buffalo for sure - Unclear whether he'll coach again.

Agreed on all that. These WR conversations are always tough because the definitions of "target", "drop", etc are always cloudy.

I'm sure there are a few that are "nobody's fault, just good defense" and stuff like that.

My point was to illustrate that a good chunk of Gabe's regression was on Josh and Dorsey. Not simply all on Gabe forgetting how to play WR.

For all those targets, and for everyone's perception, the fact Davis is credited with only 7 drops should be an eye-opener for a lot of detractors here.

Not a great year for Davis, but maybe not as bad as many think.

I'd be curious to see (credited) drops as a percentage of targets or of targets minus catches and see how Gabe compares to other WRs.  That would provide a better comparison across receivers although still flawed (e.g., no controlling for length of pass or difficulty of catch). But I agree with some others that he didn't quite pass eye test and seemingly regressed a bit, even considering various contributing factors.

that would be beyond unbelievable if there was a disparity in cleats contributing to the difference in footing.

Agreed - I'd be shocked if that were true, but I guess anything is possible.

I feel pretty deflated. Perhaps foolishly, I bought into the Bills Super Bowl hype. Early favorites to win it all. Most experts and media personnel picking the Bills to win it all. The season couldn't start fast enough. Their was a feeling of being invincible. It was euphoric and intoxicating. I flaunted my Bills gear with a sense of pride especially since I'm not in Buffalo.

The season starts and the Bills come out like true "gangsters." Destroying one team after another. Things couldn't have looked anymore promising. The media continued With the Buffalo hype. We the Bills Mafia glued to the TV like a chef working in a kitchen preparing their favorite meal. We were hungry for more.

Fast forward to mid season and the wheels slowly started to lose its air. The once unbeatable looking Bills looked vulnerable. Injuries continued to mount, the offense lost its earlier mojo, the defense looked average despite great stats. The team struggled week after week in many categories. Never seemed to put together a dominate game  on both sides of the ball. However, they were resilant and won close games. Something the Bills aren't known for. Perhaps, this new formed toughness could lead the team to the Lombardi Trophy? So I wondered...

The team faced enormous adversity like never seen before. No need to reiterate them. Suddenly football became secondary. I can take football a little too serious. The old saying is we eat, sleep, and live for football. That came to a crashing halt as tears rolled down my eyes on that unforgettable Monday night. In some ways the images and thoughts still touch me. Not in a bad way but it feels uncomfortable.

Praise God for Damar's miracle recovery. It was truly a blessing from above. Words cannot express the euphoria, gratitude, and humbleness I felt. However, slowly the football fan in me moved towards football and the Bills team. In some ways, I felt guilty but it seemed as though Damar and his family gave me their blessings. It was now all systems go.

I thought this is fate. It's meant to be. The Bills despite looking suspect continued to win and win and win. They had a purpose and destiny was on their side. The story book ending was being written. No Dolphin, Bengal, or Chief could stop us!

We know the rest as the helium has slowly lost its strength...

Really well written and fairly closely tracks my views/emotions.  I've come around to the general (fairly obvious) view that we were healthy early in the season and really clicking/on fire.  Then we had major injuries and then weather and other awful circumstances toward the end of the season.  Those myriad factors caused us to go from a great SB-caliber team to a good team that could barely beat the crippled Dolphins, etc.  In contrast, the Bengals started the season like crap (also key injury to Chase) but are clearly hitting their stride now.  So there's clearly a luck/timing aspect to being at your best late in the season.  And think about the Chiefs - Mahomes injury may or may not be the reason they don't go all the way this year.  I wouldn't be against letting Frazier go (not renewing his contract) - I just feel like we're not creative and flexible enough on D (and lack aggressiveness when desperately needed).
