  1. If Sanchez is still available at 11, wouldn't the Jets (at 17), Bears (at 18), Bucs (at 19) as well as the Lions (at 20) be interested in trading up to get him? Maybe we could start a 15 minutes bidding war and come up with even more picks.

This is probably the best scenario for us. We could trade down and take Pettigrew.

  2. You're right that he's not a burner. But, please ... "He runs slower than many OL." Oh, really? At the combine, he ran a 4.85. In what universe do many OLs run that fast, the Bizarro world? The guy just had a bad day. He will have another workout this week and if cleared will run another 40.

Scouts have widely said that he plays much faster than his run at the combine would indicate.

Ingram would indeed be faster. And unable to block, which is half of the work that a TE is supposed to do.

Look, ideally you would like to have a guy who is big enough, tough enough and good enough to block at the NFL level as well as fast enough to run a seam route. How many of those guys are there in this draft? Zero. Hell, there about two guys in the NFL who have showed that kind of freakish athletic ability.

If you want a tall guy who can run pass patterns but can't block, just wait for James Hardy to develop. Or draft a tall WR. Tight ends have two types of duties and Ingram and the other later TEs can't do half of what they are expected to do.

Jason Witten is also not very fast. He's a very effective blocker and a terrific reciever at short and medium depth. He can't run the seam route. But he simply makes Romo's life a whole ton easier. That's what Pettigrew can do. He won't stretch the field, but will be a fantastic guy to throw to when Trent is running for his life or needs eight or twelve yards for a drive-saving first down.

You are absolutely correct. Pettigrew is exactly what we need. He is an every down player that creates mismatches. He is the next Jason Witten. He will be a better blocker than Witten.

  3. Interesting note that Charlie Casserly ex GM and now with the NFL network thinks Shawn Nelson is a better blocker then Pettigrew. Although Mike Mayock and Charles Davis, the two scouts and draft guru's for NFL network both have Pettigrew in the top 10 best players in the draft. link to Nelson http://profootball.scout.com/a.z?s=127&amp...944&yr=2009

Scout.com rates Pettigrew as the only 5 star TE in the draft, Pettigrew will most likely be taken by Atlanta at #24 and if he actually gets to Philly at #28,they will take him no question

no way the falcons take Pettigrew. They have lost 5 starters on defense and will take the best available defensive player

  4. We have invested a huge amount of money already at DE. I don't see us using a first round pick or signing a high end free agent at the DE position, unless we release Kelsay or Schoebel. We certainly have enough other needs to address including C, TE, OLB. Believe it or not, there is a significant likelyhood that we do not address the DE position at all. We also used a 3rd on Ellis last year and Denney is solid.

  5. I just found it curious that they were not good enough for the Bills but good enough for a stellar Raven's defense.

Bannan looks good because he plays next to Ngata. Even Mccargo would look good next to Ngata. It just shows you what a terrible mistake the bills made on passing on Ngata. This mistake rivals Donahoes boner of letting Pat Williams go.

  6. Get over it. JP is not the starting quarterback and he is not going to be the starting quarterback. After this season, he won't even be a Buffalo Bill. Let it go and move on.

Aren't you concerned that JP could blossom next year for a different team in the right system? Can you imagine how devestated bills fans would be if that happened and we were left with an underwhelming Trent?

  7. We are the least physical team in the league. Our receivers are smurfs and Lee Evans is easily stopped with a double team. We have too many choirboys and no tough guys. We will never be a real contender until we get size and meaness on the D line. Maqrcus Stroud(310lbs) is good, but not huge. We need a Pat Williams or Grady Jackson(360lbs) An NFL caliber TE would be nice too.

  8. Why? My argument is based on the fact that the 7 teams in front of us could've picked Whitner and didn't = we stole from them.

But, for the sake of argument let's look at the next 7....

9 Detroit Lions Ernie Sims Linebacker

10 Arizona Cardinals Matt Leinart Quarterback

11 Denver Broncos (from St. Louis Rams) Jay Cutler Quarterback

12 Baltimore Ravens (from Cleveland Browns) Haloti Ngata Defensive tackle

13 Cleveland Browns (from Baltimore) Kamerion Wimbley Defensive end/Linebacker

14 Philadelphia Eagles Brodrick Bunkley Defensive tackle

15 St. Louis Rams (from Atlanta Falcons via Denver) Tye Hill

Sims? Meh. Lineart? Almost Bust. Cutler? We'll see, but no way he is as good a leader, and he's a friggin QB? Plus he can't keep his mouth shut("I have a stronger arm than Elway" ), plus he looked terrible against us and last game. Ngata? This is the only real argument, but when you have a NOW top 4 player on the board, you take him, regardless of position. Wimbley? I have no idea who he is or what he is doing, and that can't be good. Bunkley? Bust. Hill? Bust.

So, no, really no friggin way in hell are any of those guys better overall players than Whitner. None of them has had the net positive effect overall that he has, and most of them have done a hell of a lot worse.

We should have taken Ngata and traded up for Whitner. Instead we reached tremendously for Mccargo. Ngata is an elite DT. I am very happy with Whitner, but for a high first 2nd and third, we only ended up with one good player (Whitner is not great or pro bowl level)

  9. If we play 2 or 3 TE+FB on every play. we our not going to succeed on offense. None of these guys is a threat of any type. We need playmakers on the field. The presence of these noncontributors limits the number of playmakers that we can have on the field at any time. It is now painfully obvious that we really didn't need to draft so may CB and we should have addressed our TE position earlier and gotten more of an impact player than Derek Fine. I predict the the jets TE Dustin Keller will have a huge year. He would have looked great in our uniform.

  10. Crowell is a decent player, but nothing special. I think the Bills like him, but do not love him. He is not a continuous gamechanger. And lets not forget he has a swollen left knee which has been bothering him this training camp as well as last years. Sure, he maybe able to play with it now, but as he gets older that left knee will get arthritic real quick. Unless he has a megayear, he is not the kind of player to throw big money at. If we want to spend money on a stud OLB there should be much better in next years draft with a high round pick or free agency. Does anyone see him having a lot more upside? I just do not see it.

    Well stated.

  11. BUffalo is a great city. It is where i am from. I moved away when i was kid to Atlanta but never lost my love for the Bills and the city. My grandfather worked for the Bills in the 70's and 80's. We have stayed friends with Hojo the head trainer even still today. 8 years ago my father and i opened a Pizzeria in Atlanta because we got so tired of not being ablo to get good Buffalo Pizza. Our menu is totally based on all Buffalo foods we even have beef on weck. So in a way you can say Buffalo is how i make a living.

I lost my own father 4 years ago much the same way Luke lost Tim. My father suffered a massive heart attck while i was on vacation and died at the restuarant. Today is a hard day for all of us sons who have lost our fathers. My heart goes out to Luke who must be so scarred, hurting, and confused today.

My life as gone on and late in 2007 i opened another restuarant and business has been great. There are so many people from Buffalo that live here and i get to talk about the Bills everyday. These southerners love good Buffalo food. I still go back every year for one home game and to see my family that live in Kenmore and Tonawande. Buffalo has probably the greatest people in the country that live there. But unfortunatly they also have some of the worse Politicians. if every one could ever get on the same page and develope the water front Buffalo could restore its national pressence once again. Till then we have the Bills, our great food, and our pride in our city.

Thanks for Galla's. It reminds me alot of the Buffalo food I grew up on. There are alot of us bills fans in ATL and I do miss Tim Russert. He exemplified everything that is special about buffalonians.

  12. I doubt anyone expected more than a few of the 17,500 Argos season tickets holders to buy tickets, and that that was done as a courtesy to the CFL. As for Bills season ticket holders, the price for Toronto tickets is pretty high, not to mention there's the "protest" factor. So no surprise that the game hasn't soldout yet. But it will.

I agree with the price being outrageous for your typical bills fan. If it was priced comparable to RWS than it would have sold out fast like the winter classic.
