  1. 1. E. Ebron - TE

    2. JaWuan James - T

    3. Will Clarke - DE

    4. Gabe Jackson - G

    5. Max Bullough - ILB

    7. Storm Johnson -- RB

I like Gabe Jackson in the 4th quite a bit.

Ju'Wuan James would be an excellent o-line pick-up. Plug and play starter at RT, and could play either guard position. Actually, would be really lucky if he made it to #41.

    I agree about Ebron.

Ja'Waun James could make it to the 3rd round. I would be totally fine picking him in the 2nd!

  2. Aaron Donald is a sneaky pick for the BILLS. Jerry Hughes did well last year, but seems to be a bit one-dimensional and I think Donald would be a legit 4-3 DE opposite Super Mario. You would also guarantee some scheme versatility as he can obviously play the DT position but by transitioning him to the outside, you don't lose his speed and he can be stout against the run while keeping the other playmakers ON the field and not subbing him in for KW or Dareus...I also think you showcase his talent b/c he can rush the outside to the QB but also big and strong enough to set the edge against the run....I don't know if the Giants would trade with the BILLS from 12 to 9, b/c it could cost them a 3rd, but even if the BILLS stay put at 9, Donald still has good value there, IMHO.

Can he play DE? Is he a little small for DE?

These are serious questions. If he can....and the WRs are gone and the OTs, he might be a good pick IF we can't trade down.

  3. For folks that want to trade down for Benjamin instead of Evans.....I think Benjamin is more of a raw project and Evans will be a #1 WR halfway through this year. Benjamin does not catch as well and it has been talked about in the media that he is over weight, lazy and has character issues. They are not the same player because of height and 40 time. There come much, much more risks with Benjamin. Not 100% sure, but, I thought I read that Eugene Parker was Benjamin's agent too. Not kidding.

  4. I don't think Caldwell is going QB at 3. He has said repeatedly he won't reach for a QB and that is what that would be based on the big boards. I think he will take one later. Signed Henne to an extension. JMO. Also - Watkins can return kicks for them so not totally dependent on QB for success.

You don't take a kick returner 3rd overall. Geepers, Ted Ginn Jr. didn't even go that high.

PS. I am not saying Watkins is only a punt returner. But, it should have ZERO factor into drafting someone 3rd overall.

The Jags are in the perfect spot. They will be taking one of Watkins or Mack. They need both positions and will get one.

I think the Jags will take Mack if he is there. I can't see them taking another WR in the Top 5, 2 out of 3 years. That is something only the Lions would do? Or the Jags?

  5. This might be true...but Mike Evans has the look and feel of Stephan Hill. Just ask the Jets how that worked out. Hill didn't even have the numbers to back him, just the physical intangibles. I think Evans has the same intangibles and was played up by Johnnie extending plays.

Stephen Hill only had about 30 catches his last year in College. He was a physical specimen, not a football player. Mike Evans broke records. Stephen Hill is tall and skinny and only caught screen passes. Mike Evans is tall and filled out and was a target the whole way down the field and especially in the red zone. Stephen Hill was rated in the 3rd round when the draft started after moving up from where he was before the combine. Mike Evans has been a first round pick all year and in the top ten for the last 3 months.

    How are they comparable? Height?

Regarding the original post, I agree with everything BUT the Mike Evans.

And, to follow up on another post, I do think Mike Evans made Johnny Football.

Lastly, on the original post, how can you say no QBs in the top 25 except Bridgewater (so, includes Manziel) and then Manziel made Evans and Evans is not that good. So, neither of them are good and were just very lucky for the last 2 years?

Overall, good post and I agree with most of it. Thanks!

  6. If Freddie is healthy when Free Agency begins next year, I think you let him test the waters. He and the Bills will find out his true market value. I think Freddie would prefer to remain with the Bills if compensation were the same. His market value will be close to the league minimum and we resign him for one year. Maybe two and the cap hit to cut him after one will be minimal or make sure it is structured that way.

  7. My read on Whaley and the Bills is that they desperately want to help out Manuel in this draft. They have set themselves up well so that they are not pidgeon-holed into taking a certain position to fill a great need. If they are going to go "all in" on Manuel and not bring in any real competition for him then the smart move is to give him better protection and more weapons to work with.

That's why I see the Bills drafting an OT and a TE in the first two rounds of this draft. They have a big need at DE as well, but I don't see them addressing that need until at least R3. Trading up for Clowney or Watkins makes little sense to me because if they do that then they will not likely be able to fill the other holes that they have (they will simply have to give up too much!!) and that could advesely affect Manuel's development in 2014.

The most likely scenario for the Bills is that they select an OT in R1 and a TE in R2 or vice versa. What I'd like to know from all of you is in which scenario do you think they would come away with the best players?? (I think that Whaley and the Bills think through this assessment.) In other words, are they better off with TE Ebron in R1 and a lesser OT in R2 (possibly T. Richardson, primarily a RT or Kouandjto) or are they better off taking one of the stud OTs in R1 (possibly Matthews or Lewan) and then a lesser TE (possibly Sefertan-Jenkins or Amaro)??

See the attached link for one man's assessment of the top 50 players in the 2014 draft. It will give you an idea of where the best OTs and TEs rank among the top 50 players.

    Link: http://www.nfl.com/draft365/rankings.

I think would be happier with OT Matthews/TESefertan-Jenkins or OT Lewan/TESefertan-Jenkins than TE Ebron/OTC. Kouandjto for instance.

I like the idea of being able to better protect Manuel first. Matthews would be an absolute steal at #9 overall IMHO because of his versatility, size, length, and pedigree. He's good enough to be taken #2 overall. Some draft experts actually think that Lewan will a better player than Matthews, which says a lot about Lewan.

    Your thoughts??

I like your thoughts overall. I have been against taking OT at #9 for a while. But, slowly moving away from that stance. Anyways, back to your question. I think the 2nd AND 3rd round are deep at TE and OT. I think we can do exactly what you are saying with a TE and OT in rounds 2 and 3 and go BPA in round 1. But overall, I agree Manuel will get a strong OT and more weapons in the draft.

Ideally for me I would LOVE to see Evans at #9. Then Amaro or ASJ in round 2. I prefer Amaro. Then in round 3 Ja'Wuan James OT from Tennessee or a better OT. Not sure if Evans will be there then.

  8. Most of the predictions so far have solid odds of happening. Good stuff.

    How about ...

At least two kicker/punters will be taken in the draft.

3 TEs will be taken in the first 2 rounds.

5 OTs will be taken in the first round.

The Bills will be ranked by most national draft guru's as a C +.

  9. Pick 4 is to early for the Brown's to pick a QB... Pick 9 would be better plus a extra draft pick or two... Bills could get the WR or OT they want with a trade... I think it could happen but the Bills may have to outbid another team trying to move up... Watkins or Evans sure would look good in a Bills Uniform as would Matthews and Lewan.... Crowney, Mack and Robinson will most likely go 1,2,3......

I like and agree with this ^. Not sure on Lewan.

  10. I would like Jace Amaro in the 2nd and Kareem Martin in the 3rd. Not sold on Lewan, but, who knows, maybe that would be a great pick.

I think ideally (this just crossed my mind) I would take Evans in the 1st, Amaro in the 2nd. Martin in the 3rd. RT you ask? Find a way to to trade a 2nd or 3rd round pick this year with next years 2nd or 3rd round pick and take the RT with it.
