  1. They aren't turning over the ENTIRE organization and giving them a year. They basically told him "do what you need to do."

I never said they get one year. But Sean's honeymoon is over if his big promises fall flat this year and then he will really focus on drafting for need.

  2. While we're on the subject, why don't we look at Cardale's strengths and weaknesses.

    Strengths:

    (PFF):

    • Cannon for an arm. Can make tight-windowed throws that other quarterbacks would not even attempt
    • Will cycle through reads at times and find the open man
    • Shows touch, even if accuracy is inconsistent
    • Keeps his eyes downfield when maneuvering around the pocket. Looking to pass and make a big play
    • Flashes excellent accuracy on 1-5 yard passes, hit receivers in stride more than most
    • Big body and athleticism make him difficult to tackle in our out of the pocket. Forced 37 missed tackles on 127 carries each of the last two years

    Bleacher Report:

    • When asked to rip a deep ball, Jones shows remarkable placement and an understanding of timing and space. He excels at leading receivers down the field on throws of 20-plus yards and can drop the ball over the defense and into a bucket. His touch, arc and timing on deep passes is a sight to see.

    Canadian Fan:

    • shows Poise and doesn't shy from big moments. Shines in big games. This is an intangible often overlooked by these reports.

    Weaknesses:

PFF: Accuracy is all over the place, among the worst in the class at the most important ranges: six through 30 yards

Bleacher Report: accuracy and decision-making. accuracy issues plaguing Jones can be explained by his mechanics. He doesn't square his feet, hips and shoulders when throwing from the pocket and too often trusts his arm to do the work his body could be doing for him to generate velocity. Jones' left hip (his back foot) is often turned away from the target and doesn't allow for a full torquing of his core when he throws.

Given his struggles reading coverages on slants and crossing routes, Jones needs a crash course in QB 101.

Basically, accuracy has to do with mechanics, and that equals COACHING. It can be taught, and fixed. He has to DO THE WORK in the off-season. Has he done enough this past off season?

Cardale Jones throws the ball differently every time. I doubt this inconsistency will be fixed.

  3. there had better be quite a few available because it looks like the JETS are on target to (officially) tank the season.

    Mr Anti TT said what?

Its Playoffs or bust for TT. (or a solid 10 win season)

dag nab it a few hours too late.

They brought TT back after he failed last year. if Sean McD wins less than 8 games (which I expect) than he will be on the hot seat. Coaches on the hot seat stick with veteran QB's , even if they suck and don't want to draft and develop a rookie.

  4. Probably not the case, that's why they added the 1st. They did it to be able to move up in 2018.

Nope. The only person who said that was Sal Capaccio who was tripping over himself after to justify the trade. Sean McD never said anything about getting a QB.

  5.

Will tanking for a top pick become a trend?
With scouts currently salivating over the possible QB prospects who will be available next year, the Browns and Jets may both be poised to pick one, and other teams may need to follow suit to get a potential star at the QB position.
I wonder what the long term plan for QB for McD and Beane . McD and Whaley passed on Mahomes and Watson.

I expect they will bring back Tyrod for 2018 and not draft a QB high. Again.

  6.

    Let's copy New England's offense:

Step #1: Throw 3-5 yard swing passes to Shady 147 times a game.

Step #2: Once they cover the swing pass, start throwing 5 yard passes to a stationary Sammy Watkins, who inexplicably has nobody within 5 yards of him. Do this 127 times a game until they cover that too.

Step #3: Throw a seam pass to Clay for 15 yards.

    Then, repeat.

    It is unstoppable apparently.

They have Tom Brady. We brought back Tyrod Taylor after he averaged 201 yards passing yards a game and the new coach hired a QB coach with no experience coaching QB's in the NFL. Passing game never a priority for this team. Rex now Sean.

  7.

Here's a too early mock draft but trades will happen

    http://www.metro.us/sports/2018-nfl-mock-draft-jets-pick-sam-darnold-or-josh-rosen

Josh Rosen was once the projected No. 1 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, but he's been passed by Sam Darnold and now even Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson. NFL coaches and owners are wary of the sort of things Rosen has discussed to the media, and his open views could hurt him. Scouts have told us that his teammates don't like him either, so that's a major strike against him. And for the cherry on top, even if his high school coach criticized him. For more, you really need to check out the new NFL Draft Rumor Mill for scouts' thoughts on Rosen and the other quarterbacks.

    hmm

Unfiltered Josh Rosen speaks out about 'indentured servitude' of college football

I think Rosen is the best the Bills can get next year. Talented but could fall because he is soft.

  8. One could argue that. One could also argue overpaying for a player is also bad.

Gilmore imo wasn't elite. Let the Pats overpay for him and anyone else they sign off of the Bills.

As the saying goes - #2 RB's are a dime a dozen in the NFL and they no longer warrant higher pay.

The OP was trying to say Buffalo is doing much better on the cap than KC. But didn't point out the players let go before KC cut Maclin.

  9. “Witness what he did with the secondary in Carolina last year. They lose their linchpin player and they’ve got to play two rookies who aren’t ready to play,” said Polian. “By the end of the year they were performing at a maximum level and he never uttered a negative or cross word through the whole situation. That tells you a lot about what a guy is going to be as a head coach.”

This is one of the reasons why I like McDermott. It wasn't just last year, either. That defense wasn't filled with a ton of big names (at least at the time). Like Josh Norman - he was originally a 5th round draft pick. It wasn't like he was some huge star. McDermott did an excellent job developing him. Back at the start of 2013, Carolina's defense was looked at as filled with a number of lesser known players, not a lot of star power, and they ended up being one of the top defenses in the entire NFL.

Being able to develop players and get the most out of what you have is extremely important IMO, and I think it's something McDermott has been very good at.

That McDermott defense finished worse than the Rex and Rob Ryan defense in points and yards allowed.

I hope this is true because this is what the Bills need. They have had enough talent on the team to make the playoffs for a couple of years now -- and they had it a few other times during the last 17 years, too -- but they've never had a HC who could -- or more importantly, would -- alter his "scheme" to fit the players they've got. That's especially true on the defense where there's been a 4-3/3-4 pendulum with every change of DC it seems. How about the FO hire a HC who wants a DC and OC who are flexible enough to adapt their schemes to the personnel available instead of demanding that square pegs fit into the round holes created by their egos?

The last Bills coach that didn't just run his scheme was Mike Pettine.

  10. lol

The Jets got rid of Damario Davis because he was awful in coverage and had no hope of covering tight ends.

Jets draft Darron Lee in the 1st round to replace harris. Rookie year is abysmal.

Jets trade former #1 round pick, Pryor, to Browns for Damario Davis who's on a terrible deal.

Everyone believes they traded for Davis because cutting him would save them 1.7 million cap over cutting Pryor.

Jets release Harris...which means they're likely keeping Davis at full cap hit.

The Bills aren't the only ones who do silly things.

The Jets and Browns are the only teams giving us a run for our money in the WTF department.
