A couple of points come to mind here. One, the Bills Parcells line "The coach that is rebuilding is rebuilding for the next coach that comes in." And the moniker for what NFL stand for "Not For Long".
Rex blew it by not having a good D. but I liked his idea better. We got a 9-7 team, let's just build on that and make a run at this thing. Poor execution killed it though. Hopefully Coach McDermott and Beane can execute better (they did last year).
What happened to win and rebuild at the same time? Don't hear that too much anymore.
I don't think the "fire McDermott" crowd understands how desperately Terry & Kim want continuity. It doesn't matter that the Peterman situation was bungled or that a talent-poor team has taken some rough losses. They didn't fire Rex for going 8-8 - they HAD to fire him because his behavior was so embarassing.
When McDermott was hired Terry talked about faith, family, character, etc. This is the guy they want. They are going to ride or die with him for a long time.

One thing about the MNF games of recent years is that they have ALL been close. Close losses, but close nonetheless. MNF has lost some prestige but it is still the game that the players watch. There is something about a team that never plays on national TV playing a team that always plays on national TV, especially in a home game. We are dealing with a talent deficit, but the Bills have a lot of proud veteran players that have no intention of being embarassed. I'm not saying they will win, but I like the Bills +13 quite a bit.

McDermott is going nowhere.
McDermott's seat is neither hot nor warm. It won't be warm next year either. I don't care if the team goes 2-14, he's not going anywhere.
Part of the issue with Marrone, Whaley, and Rex is that they did not have long term security with ownership and therefore made quick-fix moves to buy themselves job security. They didn't have the alignment or the security to be methodical (we could argue about whether they were capable of competent roster building under any circumstances, but that is a different discussion).
McDermott is like family to the Pegulas. If you remember McDermott's introductory presser, Pegula spoke and joked about not having to talk to the media for the next ten years. It will take more than a bad offense or a bad year for the Pegulas to move on from this regime.

KB was showing signs of life last week. I could see him putting up 12-15 in a PPR league this Sunday.
I'm not giving the guy a pass for his poor blocking and disinterested body language. However, for a guy like KB who uses his body and doesn't get a ton of separation, timing is everything, and we all know JA's timing is a work in progress.

Bruce's 200 sack record is only going to get more untouchable as the years go by. Especially as the passing game changes, that is going to be like Cy Young's 511 wins or Gretzky's 2,857 points as a record that no one will get close to.
Terrell Suggs, age 36, would need 7 more 10 sack season to tie Bruce. Current guys like JJ Watt or Von Miller are not even halfway there.

Your just thinking about this now? I'm pretty sure that those of us who watched that game have been thinking about it for the last 27 years.
The Giants needed that game to go a very specific way and somehow that happened. When you rewatch the first half of that game you realize the Bills could have won by 20+ points.

Citizenship might be a different topic, but Shady McCoy is the best player to put on a Bills uniform this century and he has been the only blue chip offensive player on the team every year he has been here.

Ivory is a strong backup, but McCoy is an elite talent. Ivory would break down if he had to be the lead back for more than a few games.
McCoy has been the focus of the offense for the last three years - the QB was really just a point guard or a complementary piece. What's interesting is that Daboll is now getting the chance to build "The Josh Allen offense" and figure out how the running game fits into it. Your point is valid in the sense that we can't have JA facing a ton of 2nd and 14s because McCoy got blown up in the backfield. But I'll still take a future HoFer over Ivory any day of the week.

I don't see Foster ever being a #1 and he might not be on the roster next year. However, I do see the method behind the madness in releasing guys like Kerley and Streater and keeping Foster and McCloud. Allen is going to be a QB capable of creating very explosive plays and while the rookies may be maddening right now, they have big time athletic ability and time will tell if they can put it together.
If you look at what KC is doing with Mahomes, they have a QB that makes you cover every blade of grass and they have fantastic athletes across the board. KC has been amassing freakish athletes for a while - not all of them are high picks.

- Travis Kelce - 3rd round
- Demetrius Harris - UDFA
- Chris Conley - 3rd round
- Anthony Sherman - 5th round
- Kareem Hunt - 3rd round
Obviously Sammy Watkins was a high pick. But KC has picked up project type guys with high levels of athleticism, a bunch of them have hit, and now they have a QB who makes them super dangerous.

This is different. They lack difference making players on offense. Edelman will help them, but he won't solve everything.

This really can't be said enough.
Under the category of "accuracy" is also general comfort level with your receivers and the ability to read each other's body language. Allen's laser to Clay is a ball he needs to put more air on. Allen's throw to Murphy could have been better, but I also wonder if those two just need more work together.

Possibly accurate at one time, for example the Gailey-Jauron era in Ralph's waning days when uncertainty surrounded the franchise. Not remotely true any more.

Maybe the optics wouldn't be good if the Bills started Peterman in Week 1 and released him in Week 2. But couldn't he clear waivers and be placed on the practice squad? It would seem like Allen would benefit much more from a Chad Henne, Matt Moore, Derek Anderson, etc. veteran backup, much like the Darnold-McCown situation.

The weather was a huge factor yesterday. The wind and rain made Peterman's noodle arm even more problematic, and the slippery field/ball was part of the reason for the drops and lack of separation.
It's not an excuse - obviously both teams had the same circumstances. But in the NFL today with major roster turnover and limited practices it takes all of September to figure out what you have.

The best Bills bet is the 5.5 over under (for the season).
If you like your longshots the Bills to win the AFC East at 20-1 is a nice pick. Mathematically they are more like a 6-1.

This is my point. We don't know how close the Peterman/Allen competition has been. I'm sure Bill O'Brien said "Deshaun is on schedule" and people expected Savage to play at least several games before the switch happened.
I am rooting for NP. But if he puts up a goose egg in the first half or first game I can't see the Bills sticking with him for long.
The point is not that "Allen is Watson" - it is that NP might be Savage.

I'm still trying to understand the negativity around this team.
The 2017 Bills went to the playoffs and lost a close game on the road to a team that came a quarter away from the Super Bowl.
In the offseason they lost two aging starters on the offensive line and the QB of the 31st ranked passing offense. Because of those personnel losses, "the schedule," and because the O-Line looked bad in a preseason game, they will now be one of the worst teams in football. Come on.
The 2018 Bills are stronger at WR, RB, TE, DL, and LB than they were one year ago. The strongest unit on the team - the secondary - is stable. QB is a question mark, but it isn't a high bar to meet. They are in year two of a highly competent coaching regime. There is good reason to believe they have upgraded the offensive coordinator. The special teams will continue to be solid, and I believe they will figure the O-line out. This team isn't going 5-11 or 4-12. Just because they will be better in 2019 doesn't mean they are "rebuilding." This is a repeat playoff team.

Don't put it past Fitzy to put three good games together.
To be honest, the Bucs have some "nobody believes in us" potential. They have a lot of weapons in the passing games - Evans, Jackson, and good tight ends. Fitz can still put the ball in the hands of playmakers - meanwhile the whole league is trying to figure out how to tackle. He will put up numbers.

The point is that right now he is undistractedly trying to help this team win.
Everyone knows he's not coming back next year.
