  1. I think the way he is talking that he has been promised a bigger role in the offense than we know. I think they plan on making Harvin the number 2 receiver and Woods the Slot receiver which if that is the plan is stupid. I think Roman wants speed on the outside on running downs so if they cheat the safety up on running downs then they can go over the top. Then on 3 wide sets then Harvin goes to the slot. We will see

  2.

Totally going by memory and still a very slim sample size but ... - which side did Henderson line-up against the Giants in last years HOF game ? I remember him stone walling JPP but cant remember which side he was on.

He played left tackle I believe because Glenn was out on Medical Leave.

  3. I believe I was trying to express this line of thinking in other posts. Not only did EJ Manuel play in a pro style offense at Florida State, but they ran a read option too. With the recent acquisitions, I can see them having a similar offensive approach. As far as who's blocking, I'd like to see what the current group of guys look like with "proper" teaching. I found it strange that everyone on the offensive side of the ball regressed from the previous year(with the exception of Robert Woods). OTAs aren't far away and I'm anxious to see how the guys respond to the new staff. Go Bills!!

Funny that the only players who didn't regress was in Doug Marrone Dog house at some point during last season

  4. While the personnel and the talent call for a spread look, most of Roman's run plays are big on big (iso, counter, dive, trap). He likes to use the fullback and use motion a lot to try and give the defense different looks. He might start out with a spread look but then motion to a power I. Watch a SF game. They put the power in power running. This is something McCoy isn't known for. He likes to dance in the hole like CJ. Thats one of the reasons why Chip wanted to get rid of him. He wants someone that is going to hit the hole full steam ahead (that's why they went after Gore and then Murray). That's why I'm confused about why the Bills went after McCoy. He has always been a zone read RB. He has never run behind a FB. What makes them think he's going to be successful in Roman's offense? Unless like you say they are going to work out of a spread look and thus abandon his typical power running game. I'll be interested to see how it plays out.

Mccoy ran power at Pitt. He ran with a fullback so it's not he never did that before. He is also a very powerful compared to his size. Looking at him run made me realize why CJ Spiller never lived up to his billing. Talent is as a speed back is more than how fast you can run. Mccoy has a doctorate degree compared to Spiller regarding how to make people miss and reading the hole

  5. I liked his interview. He sounded like a straight to the point type of guy. The only thing that stood out to me was when he said that Harvin has to learn his routes on the outside which had me thinking if they was trying to play woods in the slot instead of Harvin

I was right with what I said about Harvin

    1 – @ChrisBrownBills

Are we looking at a WR1 with Harvin? Watkins WR2. Woods WR3. Harvin, starting combo? Are they looking to add another WR through draft?

    killerbeekevin

CB: I still think Sammy Watkins remains the number one option in Buffalo’s passing game despite the signing of Percy Harvin. Harvin is probably the number two receiver outside in light of the money invested in him. The Harvin acquisition was done to discourage defenses from doubling Watkins.

Woods and Hogan probably work out of the slot more. If Clay becomes Bills property he works the seams and the flats underneath.

As for drafting a receiver, I think that’s one position you can cross off the list unless some phenomenal talent slips to them that wasn’t expected. The reason why is looking at Buffalo’s depth chart right now your top five wideouts look like this.

    Watkins

    Harvin

    Woods

    Hogan

    Easley – for special teams

After that you’ve got Goodwin, Thigpen, Brown, Holley, Thompson and Palmer. Do the Bills keep six receivers this year? Knowing they will be carrying a fullback and need numbers at tight end for Greg Roman’s offense I don’t think seeing six receivers on Buffalo’s 53-man roster is as likely as it was under the previous coaching staff.

  6. Wow. What a dumb thread. Could you grasp for straws anymore? I was listening to the segment when it happened. He said "it wouldn't surprise him" if they still brought in another free agent. He didn't even say he thinks it will happen. And Bulldog agreed with him. Sal, everybody's darling at the moment, disagreed with him. I happen to agree with Joe Buscaglia here. It wouldn't surprise me either. What is with all the vitriol constantly directed toward Buffalo media members? It's ridiculous. I live in Denver and I cannot even begin to tell you how much better Schopp and the Bulldog are than the afternoon drive guys in Denver. The only guys I'm not cool with are Gleason and Sullivan. The WGR guys are just fine. Joe B is good at what he does. So is Jeremy White. And I honestly believe that all you who say otherwise are just jealous that guys like Joe B worked to a point that they get to cover the Buffalo Bills for a living while you are sitting at a desk somewhere doing some mundane job and you're pissed off about what you didn't do with your career.

Who do you listen to in Denver that is worst than Schopp and the Bulldog. I have to hear this for myself to believe that. Please give a Channel, Time Slot and Host Name(s). I'll be waiting

  7. I can believe people cant see the parellels.

Balled out in PA H.S, became THE MAN, #1 runningback had a setback in which he came to NY STATE to be able to proof himself again.

Flash forward to now same thing. Balled out in PA ( Eagles) became #1 back in league, had a "down" year, got sent to NY STATE (BUFFALO) with another chance to proof people ( Chip Kelly ) wrong

  8.

Sure it's a small sample size and everyone can agree the offensive coaching and OL play weren't good last year.

The issue remains, there's more patience from pro-team fans than pro coaching staffs, regardless of who they are. Fair or not, they don't have time to wait for a guy to get-it. Either the QB shows signs of improvement or they have to move on.

At the end of last year I saw more from guys like Bridgewater and Carr in their rookie seasons than I did from EJ at the beginning of his 2nd NFL season.

And I'm still not clear. What did EJ do better in year 2 than he did in year 1?

    WIn% before he got benched

  9. I had a dream last night that the BILLS did exactly what this O.P.just said.

Mike SHananhan said in my dream that he would move EJ around on rollouts to give him only half the field at a time to worry about ,and give the Bills the running that he always had in Denver, and Washington

He also said even though he prefers to run the 3-4 due to create presure he would leave the defense the same under Jim Schwartz since it ain't broke dint fix it.

With that being said my money is Shananhan going to the 49ers

  10. Marrone was just trying to cover his ass. He was brought in to fix the offense and couldnt do it. Most of same players he complained on offense regressed on his watch. It was is stubbornness not to use the talent that was there.

I bet if you gave Chip Kelly the talent that Buffalo offense has I bet we would have made the the playoffs straight up.

What has he really done in his career. He was a bum lineman who only played a couple of years in the league. He was Sean Peytons flunky in NO. He took a bum team at Cuse and made them .500 and he took a over a top 10 talented d and couldnt make the playoffs in 2 years.

All he looks for is teams that are at rock bottom so he can make them .500 and he can pimp around like he really did something.

  11. From the little I have seen of Matt Ryan I think he is a tad bit overrated. The reason I say this is because he plays in a dome stadium 9+ games a year has 2 pro bowl receivers and and played in one of the worst defensive divisions(Bucs,Carolina,Saints) and still lead a middle of pack of offense that scored on 40 more points for the season than the Bills(2.5Pts per game avg).

The reason for this in the games I see him play in is he has a tendency to not look off receivers. I have to go back and look at the Atlanta games to proof my point.

I will admit he would be better than what we have at this present time

  12. The BILLS considering that they got the ball inside the 50 on each of the turnovers in the 1st half should have scored at least 3 points per turnover. On our 1st 2 turnovers that we got inside the 50 we got 0 points. That is unacceptable. We should have at least been up at the min 13 points at the half.

    Agreed.

I think the stats lie a bit here. The incremental amount of yards that we needed to score was super low.

The analytics department should have told Hackett that they effectively needed to only complete one decent (i.e., 15 yds) pass after each drive to score 3 TD's and 3 FG's.

    1) 48-yd line (we gained only 4 yards)-- punt

    2) 50-yd line (gain 5 yards)--punt

    3) 1-yd line (gain 1 yard)--TD

    4) 31-yd line (lose 4 yards)--FG

    5) 10-yd line (lose 1 yard)--FG

    6) 14-yd line (gain 14 yards)--TD

    +1

  13. Well I have said from the beginning that the Jets seem like they were building their team to be like ours. Why? I have no idea because we have not won jack sh_t but they have.

We wanted a mobile quarterback and drafted EJ Manuel First then they got one in Geno Smith.

We had a fast running back in CJ spiller, then they went out got Chris Johnson,

We got a Sammy "Do IT ALL" Watkins, then they went and got Percy "Knock My Teammate Out" Harvin.

They even been picking up our scrapes at Receiver (Ex. David Nelson, TJ Graham.)

So yes in many ways they Jets are Built the same way the Bills are right now.

  14. 4-3? Now it's dead as door nail. It's over. You were never right about the Watkins trade(just like you'll never be right about many things....fracking comes to mind). Lay. It. Down.

First let me define the premise(read: nonsense) properly. This should take care of any "but I didn't mean/say that" excuses:

Drafting Sammy Watkins, and giving away next year's 1st and 4th(note the proper use of math, logic, the dictionary, and grammar in saying that precisely, and therefore: correctly) to Cleveland, removes(d) the option for the Bills to draft a franchise QB in the first round of 2015's draft.

This premise was as nonsensical on the DAY of the 2014 draft as it is today. Yet, on WGR and elsewhere, this nonsense has been said, over and over, by people who seem to struggle in their understanding of the Bills, the AFC East, the draft and the NFL as a whole.

Need proof? As of now, the Bills most likely outcome to this season is 8-8. (I know, not a record anyone wants to hear, but this is about math). Please click here: http://www.sportsclu...st/Buffalo.html See the first "What if" chart, find the column labeled "Count", and understand that the largest count, out of 212k simulations is: 8 wins. Are we good? Let's move on then.

As many of our informed posters KNEW on draft day, as Whaley said on draft day, our 2015 pick was never going to be in the top 5, and had a very low propensity to be in the top 10. This directly contributed to the decision to make the trade for Watkins.

Why is this key fact so important? Answer: because the top 10 is where your franchise QBs are MOST LIKELY to come from, by a lot. And remember the premise: we're supposed to get a FRANCHISE QB with the 1st we gave up. Yes, I am aware of Russel Wilson, and Colin Kapernick. In response, I will remind the strugglers that Wilson was drafted with a 3, Kap with a 2, and we have given NEITHER of those picks to Cleveland for Sammy Watkins. In all cases, the most likely place to get a "franchise QB" remains the top 10.

And, let's not forget the cause that is Sammy Watkins, and his now obvious effect...on the value of the draft picks we gave away for him = it drops every week. Given what we've seen of Sammy, it should be obvious that he himself may be a major contributor to keeping us out of the top 15, never mind 10.

The Buffalo Bills have always had a minimal chance of drafting in the top 10 in 2015. The defense was simply too good. The O skill players were too good. The O, even in shambles, statistically had more chances to score, with shorter fields to manage, and too many weapons. This is why the premise above has always been statistically absurd. We have 9 games left, and only winning 4 of them, against our remaining schedule, I submit as a VERY pessimistic assessment. But, that's fine, it makes my point. Even with a pessimistic outlook going forward: we were never going to get the QB we wanted with the draft picks we lost.

Now, we have a real, not simulated, record of 4-3. We cannot lose those 4 wins. If we assume 8-8, find the chart at the very bottom of the link, find 8 wins in the 1st column, look across to see the mode at 8 is 26, find the column heading 17-->as of today, we are most likely to draft at 16. (The reverse order of the chart) Which QB, who is better than EJ, would we have been able to draft at 16 in 2015? Answer: nobody. We already drafted a QB at 16, didn't we? This premise has always relied on the magical thinking that a franchise QB was going to get past the top 5, never mind down to 16, and that is why it's absurd. The Bills were never a top 5 team, very unlkely to be a top 10 team, and now, by the most likely #s, we aren't even a top 15 team.

Now.....enough with this ridiculous crap. It was never right, and with each passing day, it gets more absurd. Every win makes me smile for lots of reasons. The tiniest reason I smile? It continues to prove the silliness of the premise above, and those who said/keep saying it.

This has been a great day for posters I see. This is what I have been saying all along give or take and your articulated your point very well +1

  15. Don't post here much but I do read quite a lot and felt this would be a good place to ramble a bit. Three weeks ago the Bengals were widely being hailed as the most balanced team in the NFL, one of the five best. And then A.J. Green hurt his toe. HIS TOE. And three weeks later Dalton has become very pedestrian. Bernard is finding an extra defender in his previously open running lanes. The defense is spending more time on the field defending worse field position. And as best as I can tell, because a WR hurt his toe.

The Buffalo Bills have a better record than the Seattle Seahawks. Unit by unit I would only give the advantage to the Bill's defensive line and the place kicker (if you want to count him as a unit). Other than that, they best or equal us in every area. And the Bills have a better record. And it is this capriciousness that flummoxes me. A yellow flag thrown or picked up. A field goal missed or one made from 58 yards. A fourth down pass that shouldn't be caught but is and a ball dropped that should be caught. A fake punt executed perfectly. And suddenly the world champs are a half game worse than the Bills?

I guess it is this that ensures I am filled with hope every preseason, that keeps me planted in front of the TV every Sunday. And I know I will be praying to the Gods of capriciousness to keep letting a break or two fall the Bills way and maybe, just maybe, if they are feeling real generous kinda throw a few wrinkles into the carpet in front of the Patriots.

Because if what many thought was the best team in the AFC can be derailed by a toe, there is surely hope out there for us Bills fans.

Def nice post. Most of the NFL "analyst" are nothing more than like a bunch chicks jumping on the bandwagon of what ever team ( Dude) has the most money( wins) at any given time.
