Ok, so according to the flow chart, the difference between a win and loss tomorrow is where the AFCCG will be, correct? (And who we play in round 1, but we need to beat whoever that is. Period.)

So win and neutral, lose and Arrowhead?

If the Bills finish as the #2 seed, they can play NE, MIA, PIT or JAX in the WC Round.  If JAX wins tonight, they'd be removed from this list.

If the Bills finish as the #3 seed they WILL play Baltimore.

If the Bills win, an AFC Championship game between the Bills and Chiefs would be at a neutral site.  If the Bills lose, the AFC Championship would be played at the highest remaining seed, as it is normally.

Someone previously posted that Bills would have nothing to play for Sunday if the Chiefs won because they would be locked into #2 seed based on having tiebreaker over Bengals if Bengals beat Ravens and Bills lost to Pats.  Based on the flowchart that's incorrect.  Is it?  Even if Chiefs won and Bills did have tiebreaker over Bengals, Bills would still be playing for chance to have AFCC played at neutral site instead of KC.

If the Bengals win, they would overtake the Bills if the Bills were to lose to the Patriots based on the SOV tiebreaker.  The Bills would also lose the opportunity to have a neutral site game if they met the Chiefs in the AFC Championship, even if the Bengals lost and the Bills held onto the 2 seed.

Even with a Chiefs win today, the Bills have plenty to play for tomorrow.

So if Bills lose and Bengals win tomorrow ….and they go in as Bills 3 and Bengals 2….Bills play AT Bengals in divisional round?

    Correct.

If the Ravens end up hosting the Bengals, are they also assigned the 3 seed, or are they still a 6 seed?  Just curious if they were to then win first round and the 2 seed lost, would they be hosting the 4/5 winner as the 3 seed in the divisional round, or would they go on the road somewhere as the 6 seed?

They haven't said anything about the seeds changing and they've made it clear that Cincinnati is the North Champions regardless, so I'm gonna assume that Baltimore would still be the 6 seed and have to go on the road.

Wait. I thought if two teams play who could have been the 1 seed would play at a neutral site? Why would we host the chiefs?

Because, if the Chiefs lose and the Bills win, the Chiefs would be 13-4, while the Bills would be 13-3.  Because the Bills won the H2H tiebreaker, even if you count the Bengals game as a loss, the Bills still would have finished ahead of the Chiefs.

The neutral site scenarios are only for potential games that could have had a different host had the Bills/Bengals game been completed.

    Huge game for Bills:

    1. They can eliminate NE from the playoffs

    2. By winning they can get the 1 seed, if Chiefs loses.  Even if Chiefs win, by winning we get 2 home games in the playoffs and a neutral game in the championship (or better yet a 3rd home game if KC loses before the Championship round)

    3.  If we lose to NE, and Cinci beats Baltimore (which they will) we play a tougher team in RD 1, probably have to go on the road vs Cinci in rd 2 and probably would have to go on the road in the AFC Championship vs KC

This game is huge and coming in from CT cuz I feel I have to be there

If JAX, CLE and NYJ all win, New England still gets in even if the Bills beat them.

If the Bills lose and Cincy wins, the Bengals host the Patriots and the Bills host the Ravens in the Wild Card round.

Glad I’m not the only one.

Especially with the craziness this year.  I've already gotten a few texts among the lines of "You're bringing the paper Sunday, right?"

"The paper" being the scenarios charted out, which gets folded into a piece of origami to hide the scenarios of teams that lose throughout the day.

What happens if Chiefs win, Bills lose and Bengals win? Who would host the second round game between Bengals and Bills?  (Both would be 12-4, with no head-to-head tie-breaker.)

It will be very interesting to see which “neutral field” is selected.  I suppose it won’t be announced any time soon, and in fact might not even be necessary…

Cincinnati would host in that scenario.  They would hold the SOV tiebreaker.  Bills would be the #3 seed and host Baltimore.  Cincy would be the #2 and host New England.

Neutral fields I've heard about are Atlanta or Indianapolis.  Detroit is getting new turf, so that's out, as they've already started the process.

I'll just watch the Saturday games to see what happens.

Sunday morning will have any "left over" scenario's drummed into all our heads.

    LOL.

Probably the easiest way, lol  However, I usually get tasked with explaining the scenarios to most everyone in the Bills Backers group at the bar I go to, so I kinda prepare in advance.

As of now, there are 128 seeding scenarios left.  By the time the Bills kick off, it'll be down to 32, so much easier to navigate then, lol

Wait what's up with this coin flip thing? Now I'm confused

Coin flip has zero to do with the Bills.  Only between Baltimore and Cincinnati if the Ravens win Sunday and they'd meet in the first round of the playoffs.

The Raiders really do have a shot at winning against the Chiefs. I know it's unlikely, based upon how those Chiefs games seemingly always go, but look at the last four games the Chiefs have won. Twice against the Broncos, the failling Seahawks, and the mighty Houston Texans. Some of those games were close and none were blowouts.

The Raiders went toe to toe with San Fran and lost in overtime. They beat New England and they beat the Chargers. Granted they did lose to the Rams and Steelers, by a combined 4 point margin, both road games instead of at home. Yeah, the QB situation is obviously a factor, but from what little we've seen it does look like he's a good fit for the current system.

So yeah, we know how this situation almost always plays out, but maybe this will be one of those rare occasions where it doesn't go KC's way. Depends on if the Raiders show up to play relatively mistake free football with nothing on the line but respect and the chance to screw over the Chiefs. Let's hope that's enough.

I'm not a conspiracy theorist or anything, but I will say this:  Kansas City losing and the Bills winning this weekend makes a good chunk of their issues regarding seeding a moot point.

I'm confused now lol. The chart shows Buf playing in Buf as the 1 seed regardless of opponent

Yep.  If the Bills get the 1 seed, they will have homefield throughout, regardless of who they play.

  11. 5 minutes ago, JerseyBills said:

Hou and Den brought KC down to the wire.  This game isn't a gimmie for kc buf or cincy

So if we get the 1 seed and play KC or Cincy it'll be in Buffalo?

    Correct.

Long story short, if the Bills win, they will only play outside of Orchard Park if they face the Chiefs in the AFC Championship and that'll be a neutral site game.

That’s not what the league is saying.

    From NFL.com

“The AFC Championship Game will be played at a neutral site if the participating teams played an unequal number of games and both could have been the number one seed and hosted the game had all AFC clubs played a full 17-game regular season”

    Read the bolded.

The Bills and Bengals will have each played 16 games.  Thus, the participating teams will have played an equal number of games.

  13. 3 minutes ago, Reks Ryan said:

If KC loses and BIlls & Bengal both win, then the outcome of Bills v Bengals would’ve decided #1 seed.   Since game  was canceled AFCG goes to neural site

    Nope.

The game was cancelled, so it in effect does not exist.  As a result, the Bills would finish 13-3, while the Bengals would be 12-4.

You have to look at it as if the Bills and Bengals weren't scheduled to meet at all this season.  There is no tiebreaker because there is no tie.  The Bills have the better record, so they host.

I'm kinda torn because what if Atlanta is the neutral site for the AFCCG?  Then I selfishly get to see them here but it should be in Buffalo.  That's the Mothership and I live in a Satellite Bills location.

The only way it would be at a neutral site is if the Bills make it as the road team.

Regardless of what else happens, if the Bills win Sunday, they will not go on the road, except if they play the Chiefs and that would be at a neutral site.

  15. So, long story short for the Bills:

KC loss + Bills win = Bills #1 Seed - Bye and HFA

KC win + Bills win OR CIN loss = Bills #2 Seed -  Potential Wild Card Round matchups are JAX, NE, MIA, PIT

Bills lose + Bengals win = Bills #3 Seed - Hosting BLT in the Wild Card Round

Of the remaining teams in the playoff hunt, the Bills cannot play the Titans or Chargers in the Wild Card Round.

I presume in this scenario, the Bills wouldn’t be hit with a forfeit. Yes, I guess it’s still possible if they were to take an L last week and yet still wind up ahead based on this week’s outcomes. So long as it’s announced by tomorrow. Good points all around.

I don't think a forfeit is happening, regardless.  Even announcing it as a tie messes with winning percentage.  I'm guessing it's ruled a no contest.

If true, the Bills can’t be the #1 seed with home field advantage throughout the playoffs and a bye. It’d be off the table. 👎

If KC loses to the Raiders and the Bills beat NE, they'd be a game ahead of KC in the loss column, along with having the tiebreaker.

I don't see how the Bills wouldn't be awarded the #1 seed, along with the bye and HFA if that were to happen.
