1. Oh brother.

Is there any reason that anything REALLY has to change? Is there some sort of irreperable harm being done to the black community in general or these MULTI-MILLIONAIRE players in particular?

I mean it's not like they're forced to use different bathrooms or attend separate practices.

    599549

ANYWHERE racism rears its ugly head, it should be dealt with head-on. Let's give others a chance to LEAD - following gets old to ambitious people - black people too believe it or not....

  2. I think for the most part you are right but I think we would also would be naive of us to believe there is NO racism amongst NFL owners and GM's.  Im sure there is, and you will never, ever have a perfect system, but as long as the situation improves little by little, its a start.

Im not sure what to think about this requirment that the NFL must interview a minority candidate...I think that might be having a negative effect on the hiring process versus a positive one. I bet it makes some of these guys like Cottrell feel like a piece of meat or something...and that is unfortunate

I mean if you are interviewing someone just based on race because you have to, isnt that racism in itself?

    599535

NO, it's a response to racism....

  3. So what's the solution in your mind? An all-black league with all-black coaches? Would that effectively remedy the sins of Plessy v. Ferguson in your mind?

Perhaps it's not about race. perhaps it's about qualification.

    599479

It is not just about qualification - it is about interest, which leads to persons getting themselves qualified and it is also about the qualified persons have fair opportunity to compete. I don't think that qualified white men think they don't have a fair chance to compete for open slots - affirmative action came about because qualified people where consistently passed over for opportunities. It can get pretty complicated.

  4. Okay..do me a favor. Go to the library..check out "Roots".  Watch it. Slavery, lynching all that stuff.  Go get the Burns documentary.  Civil war, slavery, Emancipation Proclamation (tall ugly guy with a beard) Thirteenth amendment.  Pull out American History II notes.  Jim Crow..separate but equal Plessy v. Ferguson.  Emmet Till, Voting Rights Act, Violet Liuzzo, freedom riders, Brown v. Board of Education.  Segregated sports.  Reflecting pool..."I have a dream"...Civil Rights Act, Duke v. Griggs Power. Having reviewed and reflected do you agree this may a be a LITTLE more complicated than the situation you posit?

    599465

you go...somebody has a damn clue around here!

  5. Sounds like right wing loony PPP logic to me...transfer this baby to la-la-land!   :(

    599241

okay, so you really believe that people get into college just based on grades - if so, then you probably believe that America is a true meritocracy....I have a bridge for sale in Arizona if believe any of the aforementioned...Colleges skew admissions to put together classes based on all sorts of categories - athletics, geography (must have a certain number of Nebraska folks at Harvard), family connections....don't get so caught up in the race thing - if you don't get into Harvard, some kid in Oklahoma got your spot, the numbers of blacks in the elite schools and high, high paying jobs is still woefully small.

  6. Why did this have to happen to us Bills fans?

As a die-hard Bills fan, I can only say to other die-hard Bills fans that I'm sorry. . . I feel your pain.

Reading this board today I see real, true-life anguish out there. I concur with your sentiments. I wish this didn't have to happen to us.

Bills fans are the most fiercely loyal, live and die with their team, blood, sweat, and tears fans I can ever imagine. The town they live and play in is a testament to the gritty, blue-collar work ethic that they want from their sports teams. If they ever won a Super Bowl, it would be a day that time stood still for an entire city. The city virtually revolves around its teams. No other city (except maybe Green Bay) could possibly have its citizens lives so intertwined with the fate of its professional sports franchises.

But, it appears it just isn't meant to be. For that, I say sorry to all of those die-hard Buffalo Bills fans whose hopes and optimism are as crushed as mine are this day.

didn't some great songwriter say 'love the one you're with'....yesterday I hated Juaron - today I, well, I almost love him....

  7. Upon further review, I will give Jauron a chance. Last night, I said that I was probably not going to renew my NFL Sunday Ticket due to this recent hiring. The truth of the matter is this, no matter how bad the Bills are, I always have renewed hope every September. I keep coming back because I want to be there when this team wins the Super Bowl, of which they eventually will. The Bills are my team, good or bad, and I will indeed renew my Sunday Ticket to watch my Bills every week, as I've done every year in past.

    GO BILLS IN 2006.

I said that a million times - I didn't believe you anyway - welcome back!

  8. Not easy to find a WR anywhee near the caliber of player of Moulds.  If you can it's TO.  Also, you cut Moulds and pay another receiver 3M and end up saving a couple million on the cap, and that is what you would have saved by renegotiating his contract.  You still have a WR in Moulds that is consistently double teamed, when he is not he gets open, and he is still productive.  Keep him and renegotiate his contract.  It's actually as cheap and better.

    525630

agreed - I can't believe anybody who is thinking really wants Moulds off of this team - fire the lame ass coach in inept GM - has anyone ever considered his behavior might be the response to some horrible managing by the staff - this is a fiasco...

  9. Bills 23 - Dolphins 10

Time to kill off some clock

PENALTY on MIA-D.Spragan, Defensive Holding, 5 yards, enforced at BUF 15 - No Play.

    1-10-BUF20 (11:01) W.McGahee right guard to BUF 21 for 1 yard (J.Zgonina; C.Crowder).

    2-9-BUF21 (10:14) (Shotgun) J.Losman pass incomplete to R.Parrish (R.Howard).

    4-9-BUF21 (9:53) B.Moorman punts 36 yards to MIA 43, Center-M.Schneck. W.Welker to BUF 49 for 8 yards (R.Baker).

Killed off a whole 1 minute 36 seconds!!  Nice going Clements and Mularkey. If it wasn't for the Miami penalty they would have killed off even less!

Any wonder the Bills lose more than they win?

the only positive is that this should seal the fate of td and his bull&%# coaching staff

  12. I live in NJ, but work for a company in the Raleigh-Durham area of NC. It is really nice there. Each of the three cities has a different character and all have their advantages and disadvantages. Property values have risen some, but there are still some magnificent deals to be had, especially if you do not mind being off the beaten path. The weather is mild and it is probably one of the more cosmopolitan places in the country - lots of people have moved there from everywhere - high percentage of college graduates as well.

  13. I won't say how, but I am a 'confidence' pool with Mike...you pick every game and give each game and starting with 16 points you give points to each game (16 points to your most confident pick, 15 to the next and so on...). Overall, Mike has done really well, but this might have been his worst week....could be a little frustrating - I think lots of us gave big points to the giants and atlanta this week only to realize that these teams won't win all of the games they are supposed to

  14. Whoever said you had to be smart to run for mayor? I would rather have a leader than some cookie cutter follower who says whatever they think it will take to get elected.

    498602

Isn't that what we supposedly have for president right now? Be careful what you ask for....

  15. After a masterfull first drive called by Clements he decided that the Bills were going to be a passing first team. Losman did not call his own number on those first down passing plays. Clements did. Losman should have had a competent coordinator who would give the ball to Willis often today. Tommy Boy didn't. So I'm here to toss my support for JP Losman and to throw that moron Tom Clements under the bus and hope that Sam Wyche will be given the opportunity to call plays.

I thought JP at least showed progress today. Clements showed incompetence.

    461688

You are preaching to the choir, my friend - JP is not the world's most accurate passer - he has his own set of problems, but I don't see why the offensive coaching staff keeps putting the game in his hands - puzzling?????
