  1. i have long been a Bills fan in an area of NY that boasts mostly annoying, non-informed Giants and Jets fans. This is part of my being, i think - you know, dealing with the adversity of being a fan of a long time loser, in the pit of fair-weathered fans. Jim Kelly always reminded us of the "resilience" of our Buffalo Bills, and that has always stuck with me. i do not think i would be a better man if we had won the big one, even once... i do believe that i probably wouldn't be able to appreciate my team as much... strange? i think we as Bills fan share a common thread of rooting for the under dog, full well knowing that our hearts were only going to get torn out at some point. in living in westchester, ny (about 20 minutes from Yankee Stadium, where i bartend) i went through a period, a couple seasons ago, where our team came out hot (4-0). every winning week going into the books, i would start getting more comments from the usual haters along the lines of "man, you know, i've always liked those Buffalo Bills.... you know they're the only REAL NY team!". i found that people were trying to jump on the band wagon, to try to TAKE MY TEAM FROM ME. i was distressed, i didn't remember what it was like to root for a "winner" (BTW - i'm not a Yankees fan - at all - i don't even like baseball). that game against the Cardinals, we got crushed - i'm sure we all remember 'the concussion'. that game was what i was waiting for - the bubble to pop, that second shoe to fall, the jig was finally up. as the losses started to pile up, the haters reverted back to their ways. always one to search for the silver lining, i realized that I GOT MY TEAM BACK! i know that i'm always optimistic, you know... hope springs eternal, but if we field another bag of dog sh*t this year, i won't flinch, i'll just sit back every week and root for the couple of guys that stand out and imagine what it would be to have a team full of them. always a BILLS fan.

BTW, if you're ever in White Plains, NY, stop by Gryphons (49 Mamaroneck Ave), i also bartend there. i'll be the one with the BILLS hat on.

So true. I live in Jersey and hope to get up there sometime.

  2. My daughter Chloe was born today just after 4pm this evening. Please help we welcome one of the newest Buffalo sports fans to the game

How cool is that? Congrats! I have the coolest little Buffalo Bills warmup that both of my girls wore as babies. Contact me at dm92@aol.com if you are interested in it. I'd be happy to pass it on.

  3. EDIT: i'm talking players only.....on-field.

i'm going to say Thurman Thomas......

League MVP.....and best all around all purpose RB to ever play the game !!

    #1- Thurman

    #2- Bruce

    #3- O.J.

    #4- Cookie

    #5- Kelly

    **EDIT (stolen from the "wildrabbit"):

What most fail to realize is... the Bills used the running game to set up the pass. The Bills used to run more then they threw the ball in the Kelly era. While the Bills O line was better then most, it wasn't even close to what Emmitt Smith had in Dallas.

If you go back and look at what Thurman Thomas did, 5x pro bowls-1991 NFL MVP-1992 NFL offensive player of the year.

Thurman Thomas is the only NFL player to lead the league in total yards from scrimmage for four consecutive seasons.

Now considering he almost never caught the ball while in college it is amazing that he is one of six NFL backs to have over 400 receptions and 10,000 yards rushing. He is also one of five backs to have rushed for over 1,000 yards for 8 consecutive seasons. I know I'm leaving out a bunch of playoffs stats and other stuff. Just think, this kid kept Barry Sanders on the bench in College.

The guy was like 70% of the offense in Buffalo, he gets my vote.

Debatable, but I have to give it to Jimbo.

  4. Once you get here, anything can happen and we've seen evidence of it in recent years. One story not getting much press is the Jets/Farve angle. Brett coming out of retirement (again) last year and being traded to the AFC was arguably the sports story of the year. He, alone, was gonna make the Jets relevant again, finally. As the season wore on and Farve wore out, the Jets regressed into also-rans once more. After the season, both parties agreed to separate -Farve into retirement (again) and the Jets would look elsewhere for a QB.

One year later, Farve has led the Vikings back to the title game and the Jets, who shocked the league with a 1st round draft trade up, find themselves in the same position as a bonafide contender for years to come. IMO, the only thing more interesting than how this played out would be seeing both teams faceoff in 2 weeks.

My picks: Colts over Jets (oh well..)

    Vikes over Saints

Jets over Indy - Vikes over Saints - Vikes in the SB [Minnesota finally gets one]

  5. stupid article. anyone that cant see nix and gailey are a huge upgrade from what we had is a complete idiot. this clown dragged out every negative stereotype he could find simply to trash buffalo. someone needs to tell him we finished ahead of 8 teams in the league including the large market redskins who spend big on high profile names. ill take bills and gaily over shanahan and the skins, and pocket several million a year in savings. thank you very much

I agree with you. You have to be careful when consuming sports media - it is just like the regular media - under researched, with a herd mentality. This article wasn't worth the paper it was written on. Let us determine if we are freezing and playing games in Toronto just might help keep this franchise in the area. This is just stupid.

  6. Kind of disgusted w/all these people who jump on the band wagon and bash this guy. He's a pretty articulate offensive mind. Was relieved of his OC duties b/c Hailey wanted him to run his offense not his own. He was actually a hold over from Herm Edwards regime w/ the Chiefs. Oh by the way when Cowher retired from the Steelers he recommended one guy to replace him and it was.......... Chan Gailey. I know most of you negative posters know way more about football then Chan Gailey but lighten up. some of the same people who are bashing Gailey would welcome Mike Martz as coach.

In my humble opinion, I agree with you.

  7. My ideas/thoughts:

    1. Deport all illegals back to their country of origin. If said country in located in Europe disregard first part of idea/thought number one.

    2. All people will have their tubes tied and until they can pass an intelligence test and provide proper income statements the tubes will remained tied.

    3. All people on unemployment for longer than six weeks or on welfare are lazy and weak.

    4. Abortion should be illegal seeing I feel life begins at conception. Pretty groovy coming from a non-believer like me huh?

    5. Round up all the homeless people and lock them up. Where? I don't give a ****, just get them off my street.

    6. Nancy Pelosi sucks balls and she's lucky I don't carry a gun.

    7. Gays and lesbians are arguing over semantics regarding marriage. It's just a !@#$ing word you gay bastards.

    8. If you think Bush only cut taxes for the rich your a parrot squaking mother !@#$er.

    9. Want to get to the leaders of Al Queda put a chip in the top detainees in Guantanamo and let them "escape."

    10. If it weren't for the gay, limp wristed, tree hugging mother !@#$ing panzy assed, law ignoring liberals in SF it would be the best city in the world.

And number 11......."hey Obama, suck my lily white dick!"

Now, if that don't get you blood boiling..................

You must be able to do better than that!

  8. You know Dungy had a pretty mediocre record before he finally struck gold the Colts. Having Peyton Manning in his prime as your QB doesn't hurt. I would not get all sweaty over Dungy.

    PTR

He made the bucks a respectable organization and it could be argued that the SB the won the year after he was canned was because of him - he should be THRILLED if he is interested.

  9. Bottom line... this city deserves it and the time has come. Get all the thoughts out of your head which are telling you believe it when I see it. One of these two guys will be coaching in Buffalo next year and that is final.

Enjoy the rest of the season knowing that a top class organization is right around the corner. ENJOY this time right now, we all deserve it!!!!!!

    I hope you're right.

  10. I get the feeling that some people are assuming white bread and mayonaise is a racial reference. I take it as a reference to an overall blandness to life. No spice, no zest, nothing too out of the oridinary. That's what I meant about Charlotte.

    PTR

I took it that way as well. I've spent a little time there - it is a very nice city. However, like many sunbelt cities that have grown in the last 30 years, it is not a very cultural place.

  11. 1. Wide Right: Giants Super Bowl 1991 (My seat was pretty lousy and I actually thought the kick was good!)

    2. Home Run Throwback: Titans Playoffs 2000 (Titans score on forward lateral on kickoff after “winning” touchdown drive by Bills)

    3. Harmon's Drop: Cleveland Playoffs 1990 ((Harmon's dropped pass in the end zone on the potentially winning play)

    4. New England Nightmare: MNF 2009 (McKelvin fumbles the kickoff with 2:00 left and the Bills up by 5)

    5. Dallas Debacle: MNF 2007 (Cowboys recover onside kick and hit 53 yard field goal to win the game)

    6. Cleveland Collapse: MNF 2008 (Cleveland makes a 56 yard field goal with a minute left, Buffalo misses a 47 yard field goal at the end of the game)

    7. Season Opener 2004 (Jags win on last play, Leftwich to Wilford after Clements should have knocked down an earlier pass and killed the drive)

    8. Season Opener 2007 (Elam and the Broncos field goal unit scrambled onto the field to convert a 42-yard attempt just as time ran out)

    9. Losman’s Last Laugh 2008 (Bills are running out the clock, Losman fumbles on a bootleg and Jets run it back for winning TD)

    10. Fill in the blank

This is really an impressive list when you think about all the different ways you can blow a game.

    Go Bills.

This is a good, but the Bills first home playoff loss to the jags in Dec '96 was a pretty bad one as well.

  12. I was watching ESPN First Take today specifically to get their take on the Rush story and Marcellus Wiley went into a huge rant ending in calling rush "racist radio" while Skip and the ESPN host just nodded in agreement.

    I was like, wtf????????

I've stumbled onto Rush's show occasionally (not a big fan of blustering style) and I've never heard racism. I've heard a TON of liberal bashing, but never did I here racism. I remember hearing him talk about how it's the democrats who are the one's holding back minorities with their policies. He's shtick, he's full of bluster, he's an entertainer, he's an agitator, but as far as I know he's not a racist. If he were, he would not have a radio show. Where is the evidence of this?????

But because people like Marcellus Wiley say it's so then it's just accepted as a fact. To me, it totally smacks as the left's giant opportunity to paint him (and hopefully all the other conservative talkers) as racists. So now in light of the fact that Rush has been shut out of consideration due to fake reports of racism, it's time that the part owner of the Nets, that "m!@#$ f!@#$n'" racist Jay-Z steps down...

    http://michellemalkin.com/2009/01/19/feel/

Rush painted himself as a racist - you should listen more often.

  13. Rush Limbaugh is a very sucessful businessman. He turned a talk show into a multimillion dollar career. So, he would be an owner who would want to put a winner on the field. So, as a Bills Fan, I would welcome him with open arms.

On the topic of people calling him a rasist. Sharpton and Jackson are two of the biggest race hustlers in the world. Also, anything on Winipedia is probably a lie.

There is a big difference between a race hustler and a racist.

  14. That's right, because those bumbling farmers and country bumpkins are just a bunch of blank canvases, waiting for Rush to show them the way. :P

Ummm...I don't think most farmers are just siitting with their families, gathered 'round the old Philco in their living rooms, waiting for Rush to guide their ignorant lives. Unlike a large portion of Obama's supporter, waiting for the next handout, those farmers are actuallu busy working.

You strike me as the kind of elitist who assumes the salt of the earth middle American, church-going citizens are a bunch of Mayberry castoffs who couldn't find their pitchfork with a Garmin GPS navigation system. If that's your assumption, that's as ignoratnt as any ethnic or racial stereotype.

You want to see duped? Look no further than the ignoartant masses duped by our new messiah or the maliable Acorn recruits voting for their amzing leader, but who couldnt' even tell you who the VP candidate was.

You wanna see some real dumbasses?......click here:

Save all of the meaningless elitist this, elitist that crap. The only people calling President Obama a mesiah are people who hate him politcally. Also, quit pretending 'middle Americans' who are church going (I happen to also attend church) are the only hard working people in this country. Do you really think that all of the people, like me, who gave Obama money are waiting for a friggin' fu%$%ing handout???? I gurantee you that neither you nor any farmer has worked harder than my friends and me and we don't live in middle America. Quit your claim to self righteousness - it makes you look stupid!

  15. "Some current Rams players and fans are upset...." Oh Boo Hoo. Rush Limbaugh is a right wing conservative, and its' way more "popular" to be on the left these days. Who cares when it comes to owning an NFL sports franchise? Does any fan of any other team - or even players from any other team - even know enough about their current owners to know where they stand politically?? I have heard a ton of negative things said about our Bills owner Ralph Wilson. But not once have I ever heard any fan or player get upset with his views on the war or health care! :DB-)

No, rush is a right-wing, conservative LIAR, CRIMINAL, HATER OF THE U.S. CONSTITUTION, STICK IN THE MUD, HOUSE SITTER ABUSER and OVERALL PUSHER IN NON-PRODUCTIVE ATTITUDES. The William Buckleys of the world cringe when this baffoon hits the air. He is not a conservative, he is a dangerous blowhard trying hard to move America back to a time that no longers exists. He is sad, pathetic and dangerous and he is NOT going to get a team - the NFL doesn't need to hassle.

  16. I love how the very mention of Rush's name drives the libs nuts! That said, it's all about performance. If the team performed and the front office made sound decisions, who cares. As far as using it as a platform to spew political views, doesn't he already have an outlet for that?

It is not going to perform because too many players will refuse the play - this is an idea whose time will NOT come to pass.

  17. Great point. Considering his comments in the past such as:

(to a black caller) ''Take that bone out of your nose and call me back"

and ''Have you ever noticed how all composite pictures of wanted criminals resemble Jesse Jackson?"

I wonder how free agents would respond to coming to a team owned by him.

My guess is money talks and they would come, but at a premium.

You are SO right. The NFL is more afraid of that kind of sandal/publicity than you can imagine. Don't tell me that organized players can't affect where they play (ever heard of Manning and Elway). I hope the NFL tries it and it will become a bigger nightmare than they could ever imagine.
