No doubt we need a much bigger back than Singletary at the GL however many many times elsewhere on the field he was met in the backfield or ran into his own OL since there was no hole.

He is by no means a very good RB however our OL is well below average and I do  not expect anything different this year.

OL is imply not a priority to Beane.

Oh I agree with that. OL was atrocious last year and is the biggest problem this team has right now. Hopefully we've improved at Guard at least, and that will help interior short yardage runs. Seems like running behind Torrence and Morse should work, and Brown is actually a pretty good run blocker too. But we're in big trouble in pass pro with our line. I hope they figure something out because Allen just can't always make magic happen with the rush in his face immediately every time he drops back. It's also on Dorsey to scheme up more 3-step, quick hitting type passes there. You have great route runners in Diggs and Kincaid and Davis to a somewhat lesser extent. More slants, bubble screens, and timing routes please... just get the ball out.

Did you see running holes made by our OL that Singletary did not see?

I'm talking more about those goal line or 3rd/4th and short situations. You're not really going to ever get a real "hole" opened up there. There's going to be contact immediately at the line of scrimmage, and what I'm talking about is having a back that can power through initial contact to get you those few yards or inches you need to score or get the first. Some backs are more powerful than others and have a downhill running style that can get that through contact. Singletary had many good qualities to his game, but that wasn't really one of them. We need a guy who will hit the line full speed and lower the shoulder (or dive over the line... I don't care! Just someone who can get you the yard when you need it). I'm hoping Harris or Murray or whoever can provide that, because the Bills have really sucked in those situations for awhile now.

He's been an above average blocking left tackle who's kept Josh's blind side mostly clean his whole career.  He's paid exactly what he's worth.  My only concern with him will always be keeping his fat butt in shape.

Yep. He's been a very serviceable piece to the O-line for many years now. I don't believe he's elite at the position... Josh does help mask a lot of deficiencies on the O-line across the board.

I am VERY worried that his play is going to fall off a cliff at some point, which would be a huge problem. I think we kind of take this position for granted, but when age catches up with him and he loses a step (or goes down with an injury), we're in trouble there. We already need the chipping back/TE or extra blocker on the right side with turnstile Brown.

I’m just going to down vote any weirdo who keeps talking about Diggs in this thread… I would have down voted this post also, except I’m going to say L. Floyd FTW!!! So now we are back on topic.

page 28 got a lot of down thumbs.

maybe some mod may be able to give warnings to people for taking this off topic

    So brave.

I love the fiery competitiveness, but Diggs needs to be at the OTA's.  Hard to show you care and want to win and jell with the new offensive weapons when you are not there.

Again, I believe this is very common for veterans of his caliber. They are multimillionaire professionals, not a high school team. They don't need to sleep in bunk beds together to be effective on the field. I am sure Diggs will gel just fine when they get to mandatory workouts and camp. The new offensive weapons are the ones who need the OTAs to gel with Allen and to learn the offense. Diggs is set... he's earned taking these off if he wants to imo.

  6. Can't wait until Diggs lights it up yet again this year. He will play with everything he's got every snap because that's who he is - a world class competitor. I could care less that he isn't at voluntary OTAs. He's an established veteran and this not unusual at all across the league for guys of his caliber. Do you guys who think this is a big deal follow any other teams besides the Bills? I guarantee you no one on the team cares about this.

Also re: the Cincy game, at least we had one guy on the field who wasn't going to hang his head and throw in the towel. You want guys like that. He and Josh and the other leaders will push each other and hold each other accountable. They all do it in their own way. I'm thankful Diggs never quits and always has that fire.

it was 6.5, but that doesn't really matter. What matters is it's A LOT less money and a lot more production. Oliver has never even lived up to his rookie contract, and then they give him an top level extension. Total clown move from Beane. It's starting to look like they're already writing off this season and planning for 2024 and beyond. We're going to be fielding a team this year that has equal or lesser talent at nearly every position. Unless you thought we were a guard and a 220lb mlb away from a championship, of course.

Ridiculous post. This isn’t the NBA. You’re never a player or two away. So much has to click in football and a lot of it is good luck at the right few moments in the playoffs, where it’s win or go home, not a 7 game series. We’re going to compete for a championship every year Josh Allen is healthy and at the helm. Relax.

This might be the worst thread in the history in the history of this board, where a bunch of mostly men are judging this woman and calling her a “downgrade”, but also saying she’s a good actress and talented so maybe it’s ok.

Bad look for Bills fans, for sure. Have some class ffs.

Beane said he has been talking to his people and he hopes to get it done. Whether that means before the season or after the season remains to be seen.

But this concept of "you have to get something for him before you lose him for nothing" is short sighted and not a real thing.

You don't see a rash of teams trading away players in the last year of their rookie deal because they haven't gotten an extension done before the season. The reasons for that are:

1.) When GM's draft a player, they do it with the expectation that they have them for *at least* 4-5 seasons under a cost controlled Rookie deal. GM's don't think "well, I may or may not be able to get him back, so let's cut this deal shorter"

2.) Teams aren't interested in making deals for people who are only under contract for 1 year. Why give up a pick when they'll be free to sign for nothing in a year? Why give up a pick when you don't know if you're going to have him longer than a year? If it were to happen, we'd get peanuts in return because of these reasons.

3.) If we cannot re-sign a player on a Rookie deal and he signs elsewhere for big money, you get a compensatory pick. And that pick is more likely to be more than you'd get in a trade anyways.

It's all the rage to point to Edmunds and say "we didn't trade him and now we've lost him for nothing in return". But that's not true. We got that year out of him last season and we're getting a 3rd Round pick on top of it. Which is more than we'd have gotten trading him.

Long story short, Oliver was never going to be traded. And in the small chance it were to have happened, it would have been done by now.

Now it doesn't make any sense any way you look at it. Why would we make ourselves worse at starting 3T when we don't have to? There's no one out there that is better than him.

Why would we need to? Our roster is pretty much set at this point. Especially when it comes to starters. We're going to give away a starter for some reserve players at other positions? How does that make sense?

Very well said here. People seem to be a little confused about the value that players (especially mediocre ones) have in the final year of their deals. This isn't MLB/NHL. No one wants rentals. Ed Oliver has much more value to us playing this year for the Bills and seeing what happens.

While I think we must attempt to upgrade WR, I agree with this.  I want to see him standing in the pocket looking like the Mandalorian…,, like he did in 2020 with a decent Daryl Williams at RT.  Too many times It seemed as if Josh’s first read started with Spencer’s assignment then onto Saffolds assignment, then he’d run for his life.

100% here. O-line really needs to be improved. Just protect the superhuman we have playing the QB position and let him be special. He's proven he can do that. Sure, it would be nice to have some more elite skill players, but building a stout o-line with multiple high picks in the next couple drafts should be the foremost priority.

Now that they brought Shaq back, they might be able to go a little bit later into the draft and get a guy with measurable’s

Do we really want them to spend another pic at 27 at edge?

Hell no to edge at 27. They've tried to hit in that range repeatedly and have largely failed. All the Rousseaus, Epenesas, and Bashams aren't the game changing players we hoped they may be. They're important players for the team, but they've neglected offense in the draft for too long.

I think they just need to focus on protecting Allen by drafting o lineman and/or finding him a useful skill player or two. On D, hopefully Von is back at 100% and helps create a viable pass rush. In any case, I think they have to roll with what they have in that area for the most part and try to build up an offense that is good enough to overcome what will probably be a defense poised to get passed on a lot more than the past few years. There's no sure thing edge that late in the first that's worth the pick anyways... almost always, all of the premium, NFL ready pass rush talent is gone in the first 20 picks. Great interior o-lineman, RTs, and solid WR prospects will still be there at 27, however. They need to build this team around Allen now.

  12. God that was heartbreaking to read. All love to the Pegulas. They are such great people, and I am so thankful for all they've done for organization, community, and fanbase. I hope Kim can recover further. There was so much love in here. This was the worst part to read:

"My mom is the president and owner of both the Buffalo Sabres and Buffalo Bills. She loved to work. She did everything and our family constantly told her how she needs to slow down and take time for herself. She was the woman behind my dad’s success and my dad would happily admit that. She jumped into this journey with him and learned many lessons along the way, breaking a lot of barriers. She was the shift in culture, positivity, and the heartbeat of many of the employees. She gave everyone so much of her time and effort. She lived it and loved it, and it was felt by everyone she met. Now we come to the realization that all of that is most likely gone. That she won’t be able to be that person anymore."

It’s thinking like this that has produced a horrible D-line for this team…so no thanks…

I’m not really sure I see the comparison here. Because they’ve whiffed on picks and misevaluated D-line picks in past drafts they’re more likely to misevaluate high O-line picks because… they both have “line” in the name? Doesn’t make any sense. They’re as likely to whiff on a pick for any position. It could happen with whatever WR you want too.

I agree that their philosophy of trying to get a ton of D-lineman with high picks that could be used rotationally was flawed. More so because Epenesa and Basham suck relative to their draft position, and the jury is still out on Rousseau too. I don’t think that’s comparable to the O-line at all. You’re looking for every down starters there, not rotational players. And Josh can no longer operate with the type of protection he had this year. Everything on offense starts with the blocking up front. Whatever skill position player you want drafted is 1) as likely to be a bust as any other pick and 2) won’t be effective if josh can’t get them the ball because he was pressure in his face every play.

Our O-line is one of the worst in the league. Josh is the only reason they won’t look worse. He masks how bad they truly are with his ability. And the only good parts (Dawkins and Morse) need replacements drafted NOW. Don’t expect their level of ply to continue beyond another year. All 5 positions on the line need revamped either immediately or within a year or two. Again, just my opinion, but I think they need to spend almost the entire draft revamping the O-line.

  14. Please go OL, OL, and OL in rounds 1, 2, and 3. Josh can't continue to have pressure in his face every play or take big hits all the time. He can get a lot more out of mediocre skill position talent than any other QB, but we have to protect him. It's been neglected for too long. Just shore up the OL. I don't care if they just do that and try to work with what we have at WR. It's much more important to adequately protect Josh IMO.

  15. This is a great list, OP. There's plenty of reason to be hopeful. My biggest hope (or concern if it doesn't happen) is what the players do in the offseason. Will Josh bring everyone together again for extra work? Will he recommit himself to putting in extra time on his mechanics? I think they need that type of all-in commitment again. And I'm hopeful that Beane will draft offensive lineman, they'll sign Edmunds to a long term deal, and more. I'm glad they won't be the presumptive Super Bowl favorites going into next year. I think that will be a good place for the team to be in, and I hope it motivates them
