I believe it's already in the works. There have been quite a few times this off-season where Beane mentioned getting Oliver and Davis re-signed in the same sentence. He's done everything but tattoo it across his forehead and yet many still don't believe it.
Getting Oliver extended was step one in the process. That cleared money for the eventual Davis extension. I expect them to make an offer. Now, wether Davis takes it and signs or decides to bet on himself to have a breakout year, stay healthy and see a potential bigger payday in the off-season is another story.
How exactly does extending Oliver "clear money" for a Davis extension?Guess I'm not following .

There is a possibility that the bills don’t want to restructure anybody else this year
They might want to save some of those restructures for a future year
How do you "save" restructures? Once this year's season ends, that year of a players contract is also done. You might be referring to players under long-term deals and, assuming there will be actove contracts that offer some benefit as possible restructure

Yeah... But might it be 68 across 5 season, making it 13.5 per?
How do you figure? 4 year extension at 17 per. He is already making 10 something for this year and if Bills were changing THIS season's salary I would expect them to try to lower it to help sign a free agent

I'm not real excited about 90th man signing but good luck to him.

I wouldn't mind a couple more this year
-
The Commanders putting him on PUP prior to releasing him; still not recovered from a hip injury. 31 years old and with the additions Beane has made, I don't see a reason to even consider him.

Realistically how could we afford Hopkins?
I believe so are Deonty Harty and Shakir as well.
Beane would have to sweet-talk Hopkins into a workable deal, maybe some enticing incentives.
Restructure contracts: White,Dawkins, D. Jones, Settle, et.al.

No need to trade a WR. Get rid of Gilliam and just keep two TEs on the roster. That opens a space for an extra WR and an extra OL that can play TE3 when needed.
I wonder if he is referring to moving salary to make room for Hopkins

He will definitely get interviews. Highly doubt anyone hires him as a Head Coach….. BTW I thought he was taking a year off and coming back as the Bills DC? 😂
Nobody associated with the Bills said that...

I know they had also talked to Yannick Ngakoue and Rashaan Evans which would both fill needs. But right now we are at just under $5 million in cap space and that's before signing our draft class.
When did Bills talk to these two? I have read rumors

Have a listen.
Oh, also Mike Ginnitti from Spotrac was on at 7:30am and he discussed how D. Hop could be worked into our cap situation and what we could do. He also mentioned Beane had been quite vocal about not pushing all his cards into the middle for this year, so not sure if he has the appetite to go “all in” this year.
My opinion is we should do it, as early projections with gambling $ and new TV contracts is the cap is likely to go up by at least $24 mil. In 24, and another $20 or so in 25.
We are in an arms race with Cincy and they have 3 top flight WR TARGETS. They lost their TE, and we now have two too potential TE’s. My opinion is place so much fire power as options for Allen and Dorsey, other top teams won’t be able to keep up. We would have options for 11, 12, 21, and 22 personnel. That is a potent offense.
“Go get er dun” Beane as Larry the Cable Guy states.
I like Hopkins not only for the pressure he would put on defenses, but also as excellent insurance in case anything happens to Diggs

Even if Bills only maintain status quo....they are still a Super Bowl contender.
If they add Hopkins (or comparable WR) and a pass rusher, I would be thrilled.

You think Bills win 'only " 11 games but go on to win the Super Bowl? Getting past KC and the Bengals; after losing to them in the regular season?

Wait….I thought some posters said since the roster was at 90 there was no way Beane would sign anyone else🤪
this is a quality signing. He should really push Brown for starting RT
The roster is fluid and Beane is always willing to tweak it. It's an okay move for camp, but I'll wait and see

Not a "bad" move at all. Brown is younger with more upside

So...why would we care about Josh's personal life? Are you jealous?

The primary reason I want Hopkins is it allows us to flip Gabe Davis for a draft pick. We simply wouldn’t need him and could get and extra 4th or perhaps even a 3rd. Get something now because we can’t afford him next year.
If we sign Hopkins and Davis is NOT traded, your offense looks like this:
WR1: Diggs
Slot: Shakir and Harty
TE1: Knox
TE2: Kincaid
WR2: Hopkins, Davis, Sherfield, Shorter
In that scenario you’re carrying 7 capable WR and plan on running a lot of 2TE sets… so 4 of them rarely see the field… and Davis doesn’t help you on ST.
Personally, I’d love to see what we have in Shorter and Sherfield on the rare instances we need a pure deep ball guy and then use our extra 3rd or 4th from Davis on a long term WR2 solution. In this scenario, next year we would potentially have 3 third round picks to load up at WR and an upgrade this year in Hopkins.
Trading Davis, assuming you can make it happen, is ridiculous. That would make the addition of Hopkins useless, and the two moves offset each other.
1 hour ago, Allen2Diggs said:I think we would rotate receivers a ton (especially in the slot). Keeping every receiver at under 80% of the snaps would keep everyone fresh.
I don't think we would necessarily trade a receiver like Davis considering it wouldn't create much cap room.
If we wanted to sign Hopkins, I think we would need to trade Ed Oliver or maybe even Mitch Morse
There are a couple contracts that can still be restructured. And now that Hopkins is a free agent, the Bills have more salary flexibility with him and don't have to take on his Cardinal salary. Why do so many people want the Bills to TRADE away a player when they are trying to strengthen the roster. Trading away a player just creates another hole on the 53

Also, do you have to trade away somebody?
TRADE somebody? That would lessen the impact of signing Hopkins and would be pointless. And I'll ask again, like I always do,how do you force a team to trade with you just because it might benefit YOUR team? Why is that proposed so often?

They should be able to keep something like:
3 RB
1 FB
2 TE
7 WR
That’s usually the total number of skill guys they keep - except it’s typically been 4 RB. Only Taiwan Jones was a RB in name only.
Cook/Harris/Hines
Gilliam
Knox/Kincaid
Diggs/Hopkins/Davis/Harty/Shakir/Sherfield/Shorter
Gilliam/Hines/Shorter/Sherfield will all play ST mixed with Matakevich/Dodson/Neal/Bernard and whatever backup DB they put in there.
If Shorter makes the 53,I don't think Gilliam will. Shorter maybe can back up Kincaid as a big slot,or a wide TE
22 minutes ago, Bobby Hooks said:Simple is right. Manning had tons of bites on the apple. He was only facing off with Brady.
Allen will be facing off against Mahomes, Burrow, Herbert, and many others.
You need luck/breaks too, mainly staying healthy. I think we had a legitimate shot last year if Von didn’t go down.
We’ll have a few shots. It’s not a one year make it or break it.
Speaking of health and luck; I think Hopkins would be extremely valuable as insurance for Diggs. Diggs has been durable in Buffalo, but if he goes down, the depth hasn't been there.

I think the Bills should keep 3 TEs. Kincaid will be an important piece of this offense ,whether you use him as a slot or TE . Need a backup who can play TE, not another" Bobby Hart fooling no one".
I agree the addition of Hopkins likely makes Gilliam expendable.
-
If Bills DO sign Hopkins: how many victories will he add? 1 or 2 or more?
One of my biggest concerns has been the lack of depth behind Diggs.
Hopkins could keep the offense going if Diggs misses any games.

To make this happen the Bills trade Ed Oliver?
What realistic trades or cuts would need to happen??
Wouldn't necessarily have to cut or trade anybody if you have a couple contracts that can be restructured. Can't assume anybody would take Oliver and his contract, and that would just create another roster need.

This is the guy I have been hoping for. Could be excellent fill in for Von,versatile depth.
I see him platooning with Lawson until Miller returns. Versatile, excellent depth
