1. I don't know... To have won it once and never returned... It would be great.

Those 4 years were fun... Because the were dragged on.  There is a part of me that would have liked to win it all... Then there is a part of me that wouldn't trade the grim reality for a minute (I know that sounds sick).

Now if you said that Buffalo would have went 1 for 4 those years... I would totally agree and take that 1 win over 4 losses.

    Get what I am saying?

I agree. As I've told many a person... if given the choice, I'd take supporting a team like Buffalo that went to 4 consecutive Superbowls and never won... over a team like Baltimore (or TB) that went to 1 and won it, but has never done anything since.

Sure, it would have been great to win one; but if we could have won XXV and then never go again... nope, I take losing and returning every year and in the process being THE team to beat for all those years. That was one hell of a ride.

  2. .... the bills need to take him and address the OL during Free Agency and in rounds 2 and 3.  You dont pass up reggie bush, and you dont pass up calvin johnson IMO.

...because that philosophy has worked so well for us these past 10 years. That was the exact same logic behind picking just about every player we have, and look where we sit now.

  3. unfriggin believable thread! In week 7, no less.

With that being said, its amazing how everyone sees how bad the line is, yet they still can't can't resist the shiny piece of tin foil in the window.

Star power is great (i guess), but a great OL makes stars. A WR rarely makes the OL play better, but a good OL defittely makes a WRs stats look better.

  4. They actually don't include yardage lost to sacks in any statistic for QB's. Look at last weeks box score. The yards for WR's will add up to JP's passing yard total, and his rushing yards will add up to his rushing total. Sacks yards just disappear, even from the overall game stats.

    811608

I thought sack yardage was subtracted from a QBs rushing yards or perhaps the teams total yards. How else do they come up with those stats... the last 3 drives have yielded -10 yards (for example) ?

    Don't know just pondering.

  5. .....Once a little stability settles in, the rest will fall into place!

    810109

I think that right there is the one thing, more than any other, that Marv et al. needs to do. I think they've already started with some of the moves they've made. Players moves, new schemes, constant retoolind, these things breed losing records more than anything else.

Marv needs to change the atmosphere around this team and that means stability and a sound plan. The rest will follow.

The alternative approach (i.e. the Redskins) is to sign big time players and coaches; and that may produce some wins and lots of hype. But, in the end, hoe many teams build long term success that way.

  6. They are atleast 3 years away, yet Losman only gets 2 full years at starter? If you remember, his first year was pretty much a wash when he was out for almost the entire season with a broken leg.

    809572

In all honesty, Lienart might only get one more game. He does, after all have 2 losses in a row. And Young didn't win the game, the Redskins are just that bad.

I have complete an total confidence that if any one of these guys were on the Bills team, there'd be a multitude of posts calling for us to draft/trade from someone else.

  7. Well, this is the heart of the issue.  I know John from Hemet hasn't had a chance to respond yet, but I'll jump in anyways.

Contrary to what some people around here believe, I don't hate JP Losman, andI don't root for JP Losman to fai.  On the other hand, I do think that JP Losman is better this year than he was last year (admittedly I don't feel that is saying much), and I think that JP Losman should start against New England on Sunday, and the week after that, etc.

As near as I can tell, what has drawn the ire of so many people here is that last season, when many people were arguing that "JP Losman is performing about as well as I would expect for a QB of his experience", I had the temerity to point out that in fact JP Losman was actually performing substantially below what we should expect for a QB of hist experience.

You argue, "why not let your young QB gain experience?"  The reason why not, is that JP Losman was performing at an extraordinarily abysmal level - a level that as near as I can tell was almost unparalleled for a QB who had been through two NFL training camps.  Let's take a look at the statistical measures of JP Losman's performance at that time:

Game #2 @Tampa Bay - 11 of 28 (a mere 39.3%) for 113 yards (a measely 4.0 yards per attempt).    O.k. this was one bad game, admittedly a tough road game against a solid defense.

Game #3 vs. Atlanta - 10 of 23 (a mere 43.5%) for only 75 yards (a dreadful 3.26 yards per attempt).  Now, its time to be concerned - with two terrible games in a row, this one at home.

Game #4 vs. New Orlens @ San Antonio - 7 of 15 (a mere 46.7%) for a pathetic 75 yards for the second week in a row (5 YPA).  What's more, this was the same New Orleans Saints defense that the Green Bay Packers had rung up 50+ points on.

For three games now, Losman was performing at a level that indicated that he belonged nowheres near an NFL playing field on Sunday.  I don't see how you could continue to trot out Losman under center in those circumstances - and even if you did, how you could avoid losing the team.  The other 52 players on the team know what an NFL QB looks like, even without the stats, they could just see that he was not playing at anything remotely approaching an NFL level.  It would be hard to continue playing at a peak level when you knew in your heart that your QB was giving you absolutely no chance to win the game.

Mularkey was not a good coach, but he made the absolutely right decision in this case - even if for no othe reason than that it was very much a "no-brainer."

I do see your point about JP's poor play last season. He did look misearable. However, given that a career backup was the only option, I still say you leave him in. No player ever got better by riding the bench. It takes playing time, plain and simple. We all knew he was raw and needed extra playing time; yet so many have seemed so quick to forget that.

As far as loosing the rest of the team...that's easy. You tell them in no uncertain terms, that I'm the coach and I'll decide who plays and who doesn't. If you don't like that, the door is right there. Have a nice season sitting on your couch. There is no excuse for a player ever questioning the coaches decision. Period. None of those "veteran" palyers were doing a darn thing to help the team win, either. So, until I saw some effort from them; they have zero input. One of the more vocal critics (perhaps) was Moulds. How many times did he run back for the ball? How many drops did he have? How was his blocking downfield? I'd have told him and all the players, to look in the mirror if they want to see someone that's not giving it their all to win each week.

As bad as JP may have looked and occasionally still looks, I don't think anyone can ever say it was because he wasn't trying. Perhaps more than any other player, he's given every bit of effort each and every week of the year to win. So, to fault him and favor a spoiled vet, is completely wrong and leads to new coaches.

  8. So, you would have left JP in the lineup after the first four games?

    808964

In a word... Absolutely yes, I would have. In a season where we weren't going anywhere anyway, why not let your young QB gain experiences? The problem was apparently you and too many others actually bought into the hype and thought we were actual playoff contenders last year. We now see how terribly wrong that line of thinking was.

  9. This is absurd. Leinart, Young ?! Rivers, Grossman hot QBS with poise? How many playoff games have these guys won? How great did Grossman look this week? There are so many problems with this line of thinking, it befuddles my brain to think about.

Most of these types of posts boil down to one thing... a complete lack of knowledge.

JP,I agree, is winning all these games and he's not looking like the second coming of John Elway - engineering comeback drives in what 50% or so of his few starts. But, what you're missing is his clear and mostly steady progress. The big knock on JP was he was raw coming out of college. Raw, almost by definition, implies that it'll take him longer to develop. That's exactly what we're seeing - a good young QB with lots of talent, but in dire need of polishing. He's getting the playing time and he's getting better.

People can scream for Leinart, Quinn, or any other guy they THINK will immediately win us a superbowl all they want. I'll cheer for the guy that's done everything on AND off the field to demonstrate his dedication to Buffalo and to becoming a winner.

PS. If we cut every player that wasn't playing great, we'd have about 3 guys on this team after the last 2 weeks.

  10. I love the 'Leinart has no arm' posts.  Says who?  What type of arm is he supposed to have?  He has shown through three years in college and several games as a pro that he can make all the throws.  I'm certainly not saying he has the best arm in the league, but he is far from the worst.  People latch onto something around draft day and just accept it as truth.  "He'd never be able to play in Buffalo in December" is just retarded.  The wind will flutter and completely knock down Leinart's throws, but the another QB will have no problem zipping lasers through the wind?  Genius.

All I know is, the guy was 37-2 in college and lost those two games by a combined six points.  He has played well in his brief appearances thus far in the NFL.  I think he will be a very successful QB in the NFL for a long time.  He just has a solid grasp of the position.  He played well last night and lost.  It won't be the last time that happens.

I am a USC alum and a big Leinart fan.  I am GLAD the Bills didn't draft him.  The holes on this team are so numerous, I'm not sure the QB makes a huge difference at the moment.  We traded up and bought JP, let's find out if we get our money's worth or not.  Fill in weaknesses via the draft and free agency, and let JP step up and run with the job, or let him fail.  Remember folks, you don't have to look far to see what 2-3 years experience gets you.  Not everyone is going to come into the league and have great success, a la Brady and Ben.

Drew Brees ring a bell, anyone?

    807726

End of discussion. Next thread please.

  11. Its odd how you are so persistant to put down Leinart.

22/35 for 253 yards 2TD and 1 INT sounds like Tom Brady stats to me ... also remember it was his FIRST GAME EVER STARTING

    807210

I'm not putting him down at all. I'm just suggesting that he's not the future hall of famer that some people are trying to make him out to be. He's has 2 good games and suddenly half the board wants us to dump JP in his stead. I'm sure I could pull up stats to reflect JP's had good games as well.

Why can't we just be a little patient before we lament the loss of Leinart and having to be stuck with JP? Leinart has looked good, sure. But, lets be rationalistic about it.

  12. This is actually his 2nd 1/2 good game (leinart).

Rex was never one of the best QB's in the league. He SHOULD have been INT'd 3-4 times last week by Buffalo. We just couldnt catch the ball. Arizona is catching the ball.

    807194

I believe the Cards lost that game. and ML - 22/35 253yds 2TD 1INT. throw in a few sacks. By JP standards, that an average game in a loss. Certainly not great.

I'm not saying Rex is great. I'm just saying everyone else was saying he was great.

  13. A few points:

This is one game. As good as Leinart looks, that's how bad Grossman's looking. Just a day ago, Rex was one of the best QBs in the league. So which is it? One game does not determine a season, let alone a career.

The game plan. As someone else posted, this is a great game plan that's being executed well. Why don't we try to protect our young QB behind a bad line with quick drops and roll outs? It works. Here's the evidence.

  14. for most of the game i will say that he was decent. he pointed out how davis had bad technique and thats why the pass was incomplete. that was good on his part.

but he still pisses me off because every flag "is agenst the bills", but he doenst say what player or what the flag was about. then it turns out it was on the other team. he does that and i dont know why. i can understand him trying to be neutral, but it comes off like hes a fan of the other team.

    806186

Maybe..just maybe its because he watches alot of Bills games. Don't you do the same thing? A flag is thrown, and you immediately start thinking.... what are they gonna call on us now? Then if the call goes against the Lions (in this case), you sit back and think "whew". That's pretty much my reaction, at least.

I think Tasker does a decent job, worlds better than a Randy Cross.

Also, the comment "if the Lions play well in the 4th, they'll win the game" He was dead on accurate. What's wrong with stating the truth? The Lions dominated us all day. At that point in the game it was theirs to win or lose. Why fault an announcer for stating it? Why be politically correct and never say a single definititve thing?

  15. Anyone who was seduced into thinking the Bills had somehow made this huge leap forward after hangning tough with a decent Pats team, a better than expected, but not great Jets team, and two victories over the Dolphins and Vikings, is bound to be disappointed.

    805821

Point well made. Yes, I admit I was seduced. Hence my bitterness today. I really went into this season thinking this would be exactly the type of team we'd see. But, I allowed myself to get hopeful again. I have seen progress in many areas, but damn it gets frustrating when you know we should be able to beat a team like Detroit.

It's tough being a Bills fan sometimes.
