  1. I agree.

He was my flavor of the day (more out of boredom) but now that I've settled down a bit I'm in full backtrack mode.

    :D

Just don't think you need him at 8th overall. Especially with this roster. WR is a huge need, but it's supposedly a deep draft at that position. I wouldn't like the pick but how badly i'd dislike it obviously depends on how the top 7 shakes out and who's on the board for us.

 on the NFL website is states "one mock to rule them all"

"The more I thought of Austin and the hole the Bills have at receiver -- with nobody but Stevie Johnson -- the more I said, 'They've got to generate some touches for an explosive playmaker,' and that's who Austin is. Forget 173 pounds. It doesn't matter."

    http://www.nfl.com/d...?pickId=2539336

I know Mayock stated recently "he" thinks the team should go O line. From my perspective Kevin Kolb is another Losman / Edwards waiting to happen, so many sacks. A QB can't get the ball down field if he is on his back or running for his life.

True, the BIlls do need a WR or two, a TE,and a QB. Build a better line first darn it.

If one of the remaining top OT's is available to us i wouldn't have a problem with that pick. But you don't draft guards in the top 10. The pro bowl guard we just had and let walk away was a second round pick, you can find interior linemen. If the tackles are off the board i'd be okay with whichever QB they like(I'm a Barkley guy) or their highest rated defensive player.

  2. I like Austin as a player but i'm not thrilled about the idea of taking him 8th overall. This seems like a deep draft for WRs and we'd be able to find one in the 2nd round if we see it as that big of a need.

  3. Who said draft a safety? Not me. Plenty of boards have the #1 rated CB, WR, OG available at #8. There's a reason no one in the entire nation picks the first round accurately. It's because a teams board is different than yours. That's the point. There's a reason Luck and RG3 went #1/#2 last year. They were CLEARLY top level picks. Sadly, I could actually see Geno Smith falling to #8, who I really don't want at all. I want him to be gone so we don't pick QB that early.

I'm with you on Geno. Really? An offensive guard in the top 10? We just let a pro bowl guard go, a pro bowl guard we drafted in the second round. Taking another interior linemen to me is a lateral move, with a top 10 pick you need an impact player or franchise QB. Why does every QB drafted in first round have to be Luck or RG III? People seem to forget these same scouts said that they weren't sure Aaron Rodgers was worth a top 25 pick. Just because mel kiper doesn't think a QB is worth a top 10 pick doesn't mean he actually isn't. Kiper is the same dude who said Jimmy Clausen was worthy of a top 10 pick. If our coaches/scouts feel Nassib or Barkley or whoever is worth the spot let's go with it. We need a QB. Without a QB nothing else matters. I'll give you pro bowl guards, CB's, wideouts, ect. If your QB stinks you're going 7-9

  4. Ponder was drafted in the Blaine Gabbert draft. This will be his third NFL season. And to answer the OP's question, because QB is the most important position in the sport and we only have Kevin Kolb and T Jack currently filling that role. Our front office has been saying they feel this draft has some good QB prospects and with the Jets having a pair of 1st round picks i'm not sure we can just assume Nassib or anybody else we like will be there at 41. If teams ahead of us pass on QB's in the first round you'd better believe they'll be trading back up into the late first or standing pat(Ahead of Buffalo in the second round) and taking one there. Take a guy at 8 and then start getting him help.

They're mocking QB, because the #1 rated QB should already be off the board by then. This is not a Luck/RG3 year where there's two guys in the top tier and then a bunch of others. This is the year where there's one guy (Smith) that will be gone and then a lot of guys with potential, but each that have their issues and many that could easily fall to the 2nd round or after. I wouldn't say so much that people are mocking a QB at #8, but really questioning the value over many other positions of need where the Bills could clearly get the #1 guy at a position. That's it in a nutshell. The Bills did this last year with Gilmore. He was the #1 CB on their board and they thankfully didn't pass on him. Same with Dareus and same with Spiller. I'll take a pass on another 2004 type draft season where we take a guy like Losman because we think we have to pick QB after Eli Manning and Ben Roethlisberger are already selected.

Who is the Dareus or Spiller that will be there at the 8th pick? No clear cut "best guy at his position" will be left for us. Maybe Milliner. But there is no way you can spend back to back top 10 picks on CB's, that is pure lunacy. zYou want to draft a safety? That's the Dick Jauron plan, build up the secondary when you don't have a QB, among many other needs.Just because Losman was a bust doesn't mean whoever we take this year(if we take a qB first round) is JP. Cmon. That's just lazy.

  5. You don't burn the #2 pick on a coverage linebacker. You take him because you think he can turn into a pass rushing demon. He's got the physical tools, yet wasn't exactly a sack master at Oregon. He worries me. If he's at 8 he's probably worth that spot but at #2 he makes me cringe.

  6. ...You never know WTF the Bills brass is thinking. I remember watching and hearing the BILLS have TRADED UP and I thought YES!! YES!! We are going to take Russel Wilson. He won't last to the 4th where the Bills want him so we are getting him now!! Great move..... then......

silence.... and with their pick in the 3rd round the Buffalo Bills select... WR T.J. Graham.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME! I had to look up stats and ranking for this no name unheard of speedster and saw him as the 34th ranked receiver. Maybe the Bills know something, I tried to convince myself. Maybe they'll still get Wilson BUT NO! GOD NO! They did it again. And we all know how that played out.

Which is why something tells me they will do it THIS YEAR TOO! Some head scratching boneheaded pick that Whitner's my ass into a Maybin frenzy. I just don't trust them to get it right.

So the question is? What dumbs, head scratching, rip your eyeballs out move do you think they will pull this year or does Marrone have enough sense and insight and power to guide the ship off the damn iceberg for once?

My guess. Buddy goes down with the ship guiding us to pick #8--- Matt Barkley, sunshine boy USC, RJ#2 can't slice it through the cold winds.

I really like EJ Manuel but don't know if he plays good in the cold. Nassib seems like the only logical choice to fit what we do in the environment we do it in. But who follows logic at OBD.

RJ#2? Barkley is nothing like Rob Johnson. Both white guys who played QB at USC, that's it. Rob was taller and had a very strong arm.

  7. Peters is just one of those guys who is all about himself. In the end i can't hate him for it. I get it. He'd rather further his career and make more money than risk possibly ending his career playing for a bad team going nowhere. He's not the first, won't be the last. He's a pro athlete, unlike the rest of us who will work into our and 50's and 60's before retiring, his career will end probably in his mid 30s and he somehow has to find a way to survive the next 50+ years of his life without real income. He's not a guy i'd want on my team but i can't rip a guy for caring more about himself than the organization that will use his body up and then toss him aside when he's no longer of use to them.

  8. You're doing a pretty poor job "covering" if the QB can consistently drop the ball over your head. Like I said he may as well get burned right off the line because as a DB his job isnt to "run with his man" his job is to not let the WR catch the ball.

If that's the case then we should cut every DB we have. You aren't thinking friend. You don't let guys walk if you don't have suitable replacements. Do we? I'll answer for you(thank me later), no. We don't. And like i said, the coaching staff thinks he's going to work out, they expect him to start. He's still young and he's had his moments, good and bad. Unless you want to burn another high pick on a CB bringing him back was logical.

  9. Whatever pal. I remember the 2008 draft class very well. I was taking a semester off while transferring colleges at the time and spent a lot of time studying the prospects.

Jenkins and I believe Cason as well were all described as custom fit for the Cover 2/zone cover D the Bills were playing at the time. They got drafted to teams who play the 3-4 with a SS who plays in the box. That's not a Cover 2 scheme. (Jenkins and Cason)

Flowers on the other hand was supposedly strong in man to man. DRC and McKelvin were considered excellent athletes but a little raw because of their level of competition.

Flowers is easily the best CB out of all of them. And he hasn't left KC. That was Brandon Carr. Also a 2008 pick of the Chiefs.

If you think Brandon Flowers stinks but Mckelvin is good I urge you to reconsider what you think you know about football.

Mckelvin can cover but has bad ball skills? So you think good coverage is sticking with your man 40 or 50 yards down field but letting the ball drop in right over your helmet? HAVE MERCY. If a DB lets that happen he may as well just get burned off the line.

Yes, coverage and ball skills are totally different things. You might want to reconsider what YOU think you know about football. And "stinks" was a bit strong, sure. All of the guys you listed are going to have jobs but none of them are anywhere near elite. You want to cut McKelvin? Go ahead. We'll start Justin Rogers and Aaron Williams. Or burn another high round pick on a DB. Great plan. Or better yet, let McKevin walk, and we'll bring in Cason or Jenkins-lateral moves that don't make us any better.

oh, and just an fyi. if you're 'sticking with the guy 40-50 yards downfield"...um, you're covering him. which is exactly what i said he can do. the ball skills leave much to be desired. bottom line is we don't have a better option on this team and there isn't one on the market. don't get how a team with this many issues has fans who continue to cry about bringing back a 20 something year old CB who the new coaching staff feels has redeeming qualities. but then again you were transferring colleges at the time and know more than marrone and pettine. surreeeee bud. i'll have whatever you're having.

  10. Those guys all stink. McKelvin has poor ball skills but he can cover. Oh, and btw, good corner play goes hand in hand with a good pass rush. How has ours been in McKelvin's time here? The answer is atrocious. Let's not blame ONE guy for things that an entire defense/coaching staff is responsible for.

  11. Mckelvin - bills

    DRC traded

Talib - off field disaster, traded

Jenkins - free agent, injury and work issues

Flowers - left kc for nothing

Porter- demoted to 3rd corner before leaving saints, health issues

Cason - left SD via FA; inconsistent at best

Oddly we were the ONLY that kept their guy.

lol thank you ser. don't you love how the guys on this board try and bash our players by hyping up everyone elses garbage?

  12. Somebody has to play QB. All the guys people list ahead of him aren't going anywhere, and all the guys below him aren't better. You wanna draft a guy? Sure. I can see the logic in maybe taking a 3rd/4th round flyer on a guy like Tyler Bray. Sure. But, odds are you aren't finding a better QB than Romo this year. They don't have a great OL, and their defense was hardly a force. Got the coordinator fired, actually. He's got his faults, he's had his bad moments, but he isn't average. Ryan Fitzpatrick is average. That isn't the same thing. He's a good QB and he'd be the best QB that we've seen since some guy named Kelly. That's over a decade ago. So that must say something about us that in over a decade we haven't been able to find a better QB than Dallas' overpaid, average joe Tony Romo. Cmon. Most NFL contracts are absurd, most guys never see the deal in it's entirety. It'll get restructured or he'll flat out get released when the ride is officially over.

  13. Watched Nassib in person every game for the past two years and he throws with great velocity because he throws as hard as he can regardless of how far he's actually throwing. That was one of many Syracuse fans knocks on him, he doesn't throw with touch. His deep ball is a rainbow , he's got a better arm than fitz but he's hardly got a 'big arm' . All of these Drew Brees comparisons are absurd, totally absurd.

  14. Funny thing is, if you click the proflie for EJ Manuel and read his bio, they comapre him to Blaine lol

even funnier, some scouts have compared Nassib to Fitz. Having watched EJ Manuel his entire career at FSU and seeing a lot of Gabbert, I see absolutely no similarities outside of being tall and playing QB.

  15. Ive been pushing for Geno since September. At this point, Im all for trading up to #2 or #3 to get him. Make it happen.

If they think Geno is the guy i'm with you. Don't want to hear about only having 6 picks and having holes to fill. The holes you fill mean nothing without a QB. It's just our luck Geno has a great pro day and Barkley will probably do the same and both won't be around at 8th overall

  16. And when are we going to start filling some of these needs?

two things. 1.)whaley likes to build through the draft, and 2.)what makes you think these high top free agents want to play here? tough to convince good players to take part in a rebuild. last year with mario was different because a lot of folks felt like buffalo was close to a playoff spot. not so much this year.

lol, and i meant 'high priced', i don't think we want free agents on the pot.
