  1. Seeing a few guys saying Moulds, he wasn't part of our playoff drought. Remember he was part of the Flutie led squad that lost to Miami in the wildcard game. I think he still has the NFL playoff record for receiving yards in a game with 240. I'd probably go with Travis Henry, Kyle Williams is a popular pick but I feel like he's not quite that underrated. Most real football folks know how great of a player he's been. So i'll stick with Henry, a guy whose off-field issues made people forget how good of a player he really was, especially in BUF.

  2. Matt Ryan threw near 20 INT's as a senior at BC. Pretty sure we'd all take him in a heartbeat. Don't get lost in the stats, those who break down film say a lot of Winston's INT's were due to freshmen wideouts going to the wrong spot or giving up on the play. The FSU defense was a shell of what it was the year prior, Winston had to force the issue more often than not which led to him forcing balls into tight spots. He's a fine pick at #1.

  3. As I said - others are entitled to their opinion as I am mine. Hopefully you saw the combine today - because there was one QB that completely stood out today with everything he did and it was Jameis. From his throws to his interactions with the other players to the presence he commanded on the field - he was special. Oh - and both he and Mariota actually did the damn Qb drills unlike Luck. Props to both - as I never understood why QB's refused to participate. The kid is a special talent and it is going to be fun watching him in the pros - as to the guy that knocked the other fsu qb's - i have watched all of the since charlie ward and winston is in a different league. I like ej as a person - but he is no where bear the same talent as winston.

This. You can end the thread right here. Good day, gentlemen.

  4. Lots of his INT's were due to freshmen wideouts not being in the right spot or giving up on the route, the others Winston was flat out pressing and trying to do too much. Lots of good QB's do it. Matt Ryan threw, what, 18, 19 INT's as a senior at BC? Winston was just a RS Soph, he's putting on a clinic at the combine. Mariota still waiting for his WR's to make their break before throwing the ball, Winston's ball is already in the air before the wideout makes his cut. Both are looking like solid prospects, for sure. But Jameis to me in the safer on field prospect. Not as good of an athlete but a true QB.

  5. Maybe it was Marrone, but i doubt it. Not a single guard on this roster deserved to play in the league last year. Chris Williams was the 14th overall pick for Chicago as an OT and got moved to guard because he wasn't any good. After a handful of injury prone, poorly played seasons, he was cut. One season with the OL needy Rams, and then they let him walk in FA. I'm not going to kill Marrone because he couldn't get this guy to perform better than he did. Guy simply isn't a good player. Richardson was a rookie who clearly wasn't ready and Urbik and the rest of lot would be waiver wire fodder if we cut them. His starting RT was a 7th round pick rookie who while talented, was going to take his lumps. Glenn and Woods' jobs get harder when the guys playing next to them can't do their job. Might not be Marrone's fault. No coach in the league was getting this OL to be great. Perhaps a new scheme or attitude, coach, whatever gets more out of them this year, but if it happens it's worth noting the rookies got experience, and a full year with NFL strength and conditioning. If/when this group improves everybody will want to say "see? it was Marrone's fault !" but i'm not sure he wouldn't have had them playing better this season also.

  6.

Most games? They eclipsed 30 points 7 times in the 3 years Chan was here. They failed to score more than 10 points 11 times in the 3 years. They also didn't score an offensive touchdown in 5 games. His average PPG in the 3 years was 20.8. It's been 21.5 under Marrone.

    Like I said revisionist history

Thank you. I'm always so blown away by all of the Chan love on this board. I just remember feeling like our offense was playing in an 8 yard box.

  7. RT Henderson didn't play well. RG Pears didn't play well. C Woods didn't play well. RG Richardson and Urbik didn't play well. LT Glenn didn't play well. As a unit this was a hideously incompetent lot. Many people are suggesting their bad play was due to a poorly designed offense. My resolute position is this was a talentless grouping that played down to its wretchedly poor talent level.

Next year there will be multiple personnel changes made within the unit. It won't be due to offensive design so much as it will be due to talent issues.

There is a tendency of this fickle fan base to vilify people who leave this organization. They inflate their assessment of players when they are with the franchise and they debase them when they leave. This is the same syndrome that happened with the Peters situation. When he left he was harshly disparaged. The end result is he went to a team that wanted him, payed him accordingly and now is a perenial all-star who can reasonably be considered as a lower-tiered HOF candidate.

The bottom line is that Marrone got a very flawed and imbalanced team to play up to its talent level. That certainly doesn't make him an elite HC but it does allow him to be categorized as a competent HC.

You pretty much nailed it. Look, Marrone isn't Vince Lombardi, but he's not nearly the bum that many on this board keep making him out to be. The OL stinks, he had interior linemen who flat out have no business starting in the NFL, his starting RT was a 7th round pick rookie, whom while talented has a ways to go. Wood is a solid player, nothing more, nothing less. Glenn, again, good, not great. I'm not sure why this line struggling is such an indictment on Marrone's offense. Everybody's hero Whaley didn't exactly give him the hogs up front to work with. Doug was a good, but flawed coach that inherited a good, but flawed roster. When your main positions of weakness are QB/OL, no coach is doing a lot better than 9-7.

  8. Which instantly makes him on a different level than Luck. When Luck came out nearly EVERY analyst said he was gold. I can't think of one who remarked they would not touch him in the first round. Can you say the same for Winston? See---not nearly the same. Luck was "a Luck" because he was very good, NFL ready and SAFE.

Plus you never trade away that much for one guy. What if he gets horribly injured in the first year? Now you re out the player, your great player and two first round picks.

    A seriously idiotic suggestion.

Which NFL GM said they'd never draft Winston in the first round? The talking heads like McShay and Kiper might have said it, but then two weeks later he's back in their top 10. That's a joke. What scouts mean is in regards to the physical and mental tools exhibited on the field Winston stacks up to Luck, he has the red flags but he's not sliding out of the first round, probably not the top 5. And i agree, you can't give the farm for someone, i'm sure the Redskins regret giving up everything they did for RG III.

  9. I used to like Joe B, especially his draft analysis. But the more I hear him, the more arrogant and condescending he seems. It's like he thinks he's better than he is. As for his trade proposal, gimme a break. No way would I trade away the best player on the team for an unproven commodity with huge off-the-field concerns. Let alone throw in a 1 & a 2 on top of it. He's not Andrew Luck. If he were, I'd do it no questions asked. For Winston? Not a chance in hell.

Some scouts have said he's on that same level as Luck, just with the obvious questions about his maturity. I wouldn't give up the world for him, but i'd certainly make an offer if the #1 or #2 pick were available. You CAN'T win in this league without a QB, Dareus and maybe a few guys on that defense had career years and Buffalo still topped out at 9-7. The Colts roster isn't as good top to bottom compared to Buffalo's and they're better because they have a QB. Same goes for a few teams who made the playoffs, lots of these teams have holes, but they also have a QB who can win you a game himself. Buffalo hasn't had one since Kelly. Winston is a tremendous prospect and i'd certainly be interested in him if it was possible. We should all be.

  10. I don't know, I think the blame has to go on the players. All the game we lost were there for the taking, we just didn't make plays. Brown fumbling out of the enzone, ej picked off by watt, giving up a 3rd and 22 in a must win game. It seem like in football the difference between most wins and loses is 2 or 3 plays a game.

Agree. Look, the coaches aren't perfect, but we didn't miss the playoffs bc of them. This team isn't good enough, close, but not yet. Without a QB no coaching staff is going to look great out there, we're limited at QB/OL, two important holes we just couldn't fill.

  11. I've seen enough of Marrone. I don't have any ill-will toward the guy but for an offensive guy the Bills offense is really 'offensive', as in awful. Hackett has been way in over his head since the start and his scheme is not working. We can't live through this disaster on offense for another season in '15.

I would promote Schwartz to HC, promote Pepper Johnson to DC, retain most of the defensive and special teams staff and bring in an NFL level, competent OC and let him choose the offensive coaches with the new HQ. 1st order of business - identify a credible QB plan to get some competency under center, evaluate free agent offers to retain Hughes and Spiller while fixing the problem in the offensive line for real.

Schwartz had more talent in Detroit and couldn't make the playoffs, i can't fathom how anyone could want to fire Marrone and promote him. Good DC, leaves much to be desired as an HC.

  12. Why is it so hard to believe? "Entering Oregon's matchup with Florida State in one College Football Playoff semifinal, Mariota has completed 68.3 percent of his pass attempts for 3,783 yards and 38 touchdowns. He leads the Football Bowl Subdivision in passing efficiency (186.33), yards per attempt (10.2) and is the only quarterback in the nation to throw for at least 2,100 yards with fewer than three (2) interceptions." That's 10.2 yards per attempt! Have you watched him play?

Vince Young's stats were mind-blowing too, so were lots of guys' numbers. So were RG III's. It's not about numbers, it's about skill set and translating to NFL game. Luck is built for the job and ran a pro style offense all along. Mariota is another one of these athletic spread offense QB's who put up monster stats. I think he's an incredible college QB but i don't see NFL star in his future, i especially don't see Andrew Luck.

  13. The defense has nothing to do with it and Cutler is not a much better QB than Orton jhes just on a different team and the grass is always greener . Cutler has had 5 years in Chicago to prove the doubters wrong and the bears fired coach after coach looking to get the most out of Cutler and he still couldn't get it done . Hes one of the only qbs in the league that you can really say that a organization went above and beyond to try and develop. The Bears had a top 5 defense a couple of years ago and he still couldn't get it done. He is surrounded by the most balanced offensive arsenal of perhaps any qb in the league and he still couldn't get it done but hes gonna come here and get it done because .............of the defense ?

You lost me at the "He's not that much better than Orton" line. That's just absurd. I don't love Cutler, but for the right price i'd gladly take him in Buffalo. He actually makes plays in the passing game. Do you really think with Cutler Buffalo loses to Houston, KC, or Miami? Outside of the two games against the Jets Orton has started 7 games and thrown for 8 TD's and 7 INT's. By comparison he makes Cutler look like Dan Marino.
