  1. I didn't realize Trent was a douche.

I thought he was an alright guy but not such a great quarterback.

In what ways is he a douche?

dont play coy with me sjbf. Ive seen you respond to every single post on this board for years so I know youve seen every single opinion on turdwards. But for entertainments sake, ill indudlge you.

1.When a guy is an nfl qb who is being scathed in the media for 2 sesons in a row about checking down, dont you think (if you were a man) you would start going deep? At least once or twice a game?

2.When its 4rth down and the end of a game and you have a chance to score or lose...dont you think a man (not a douche) would throw it? Or would he run out of bounds?

3.When youve lost game after game, during the press conferences would you look sideways at reporters like a little boy and fix your hair looking in the monitor of yourself on the TV as they ask questions (saw this repeatedly) or would you look them in the eye and answer the questions?

its one thing to suck, its another to see how he didnt really care, proving this with his 4rth down play, never and I mean NEVER changing his game to address his obvious problem of checking down and throwing mainly to runningbacks. Also if you watched his press conferences, he sounded like he was just going through the motions again and again not looking at the reporters, but fixing his hair? seriously, who does that on tv while people are talking to you?

  2. Keith Ellison > Corey Moore > maybin

'come on man K Ellison? does he have more than 2 sacks in 4 years? corey moore had a decent season last year.

within days of being cut, roo

hes outplaying locker by a longshot, doubt he'll be cut, maybe elevated to starter within a few weeks.

re trentwad: I wish I could totally suck at something and then get rehired over and over and make hundreds of thousands of dollars to be a douche. oh ya forgot it was the concussion. pfffttt. lol

  3. wow I know he didn't look great but he picked it up as the half closed and looked about twice as good as any trent Edwards performance ive seen. Not to just bring up ol cpt checkdwn but people didn't rip him nearly as much for his awful preseasons and Kolb had been out for over a week and was rusty. As of right now fitz has better preseason numbers than EJ so is he better than EJ? I think Kolb needs another week of practice and another start before people call for his head.

  4. Well, you have your opinion..

By your own account, you just named 4 seasons of high level NFL play. That's not your every day 'extremely overrated, nothing special' kind of rhetoric, in MY opinion.

yes in mr rags opinion, you only need three years of good play to be one of the greatest in bills history, see his posts on SJ having 3 years (consecutive mind you) of barely squeaking out 1000 yards. this is definitive proof in his mind of being a great bills starter. Mcgee had 4 years of top level play so Mr Rags thinks he is a great Bill....no matter what he says.

  5.

as stated in my post to JW. I get extrely worked up over fan favorites and overrated players. IMO he's one of the most overrated to don a Bills uniform.

so are you talking about SJ or McGee here? im confused after you spent a week defending another extremely overrated bills player and then preach about opinions being opinions.

but calling them "great" is a nothing short of a joke.

ok so you are talking about SJ, got it.
  6. I am sorry, but you are way off base. The guy was the best return guy in team history (that I have ever seen, at least) and one of our most consistent and quality corners for 6 years before injuries started getting him. He wasn't overrated in any respect.

I don't think you can rag on a guy because he started suffering bad knee and nerve injuries in his 7-10 seasons.

I do agree with you that he's done-- but don't get why anyone would or could criticize any aspect of his play.

he was a good returner, I think roscoe took way too many punts and some KR back that McGee should have taken. his numbers would have maybe doubled. Mcgee was solid as a smaller cb who succumbed to injury, not his fault he was paid so much or got hurt. he tried to come back but just got old. I really wished he could have had one more season before he retired.
  7. i just pray he can play all sixteen games and just barely get another 1000 yard season. We all know THAT is why he's good. If he gets say, just 994 between 1000 yard seasons that will make him just another loser receiver...like Moulds.

  8. Now I've heard it all. Stevie Johnson has had three consecutive 1000-yd seasons as a WR primarily because of -- wait for it -- Ryan Fitzpatrick.

Time for me to wrap it up for the day.

im sure you remember my post about sj slot wr. I said hes gone in two years "if" rogers is any good. Now w one preseason game and 7 catches Easley is the new super star. But isn't it due to tuel throwing him almost every pass when he was on the field? he caught 7 balls for a very sj like 13 yards a catch. before this game he was considered a cut by most now hes a lock for the bills or some nfl team. Hes not shown anything yet except the ability to catch perfectly thrown passes. But yes SJ did get most of the targets from fitz, its not hard to get a 1000 yards in a season when you get 10+ chances a game to catch a football.

Lastly, why is TJ the starter???? That guy hasn't showed anything.

I think a lot of posters don't ever look up the height and weight of the players. someone else here said tj reminds them of Donald jones. WTF? ones huge and has marginal speed, the others small light and has exceptional speed. TJ has lee evans speed but needs another season to show if he can handle being a "two". hes bigger than Goodwin who will be the 3 or 4 for this team. I saw Goodwin as a replacement for TJ but hes apparently had a great preseason ( in practice anyway) so maybe that's why hes a starter so far. No matter how good Goodwin is he'll never start as a 1 or 2, hes too small. As a 2 TJ barely has the size so it depends on his hands. Woods is about the smallest you want as a starter at 190 and 6'1 hes like peerless price.
  9. cool story... guess you missed the long pass he hauled in Easley looked like a Boldin clone today made catches of every variety.

Cool story. No i saw it but didnt mention it since he lost his footing catching what would have been a td. It was ok but didnt really show his speed. Didnt think of bouldin at all.

  10. uh oh here we go again....Easley played well but he didn't blow by anyone or overpower anybody for a jump ball. His catches were of the 5-7 yard variety and thrown perfectly by tuel I would add. He needs to show more speed and long ball type catches to make the team. Im rooting for him simply because I know him and I would like to see our draft picks succeed over ufa's He is not the biggest or tallest or fastest of the wrs but he and rogers have maybe the best combo of all of these. I hope he makes it but catching 7 yarders doesn't make him a great wr all of a sudden. Rogers had maybe 2-3 balls thrown his way, he is taller and faster than Easley too. I want to see him get more chances.

  11. Its not that we won a preseason game...but how we won...each group kept getting the same results...first second third team players. The game was played smartly in all phases. We didnt barely squeak out a win nor jump out to a huge lead...we simply and slowly outplayed the colts on their field

Maronnes system lets the new and old talent shine . He yells at guys and doesnt sit by and watch like a zombie when someone makes a mistake.(jauron)

He also doesnt idle through offseasons like gailey relying on weak players who everyone knows cant play (trent, fitz,a williams, shep, donald jones)

I am super excited on so many levels for this team...if only we had last years schedule.

  12. You should consider changing your name to confounder since you have not demonstrated the ability to enlighten.

Stevie is the #1 reciever on this team - barring injury or trade until proven otherwise.

In coach Hacketts offense the recievers are asked to know all of the WR positions in order to Attack the defense and exploit mismatches. You would have an argument if on Sept. 8th the offense lined up in a pro set and Stevie was on the bench (uninjured). But since it's TRAINING CAMP... a little practice, whether it's at x, y,or z is to be expected.

Your link is worthless- stevie dropped the ball less than some elite wr's, and all of them had better QB's than stevie.

    stevie had a faster 40 time 4.59 than Jerry Rice 4.71 guess he wasn't a #1 wr.

And to answer your question yes Reed, Moulds, lined up in the slot during their careers. FWIW in the past the cheatriots have lined up in a pro set with welker on the outside.

wrong wrong and wrong. Do you understand the difference between total drops and drop percentage? Also they stats are based on "catchable balls" so the QB makes no difference if the ball was an easy pass to grab, he didnt grab as high of percentage as almost all starting number 1 WR's on 32 teams for 2 years 2010 and 2012... You cant argue your way out of that. Moulds did not line up in the slot save for a few gadget plays like all WR might do once in a while. He was never a slot WR. I maybe wrong about Reeds Percentage I didnt look it up, nor know if its possible to look it up but no one will argue he didnt play outside as well and had no problem doing so because he was a complete receiver, a true #1. And Jerry being slower in a single 40 measurement is irrelevant. He had a 10+ year history of getting open deep and catching a large amount of deep TDs. He was in the 18 to 20 YPC in his first 5 years. He didnt get close to SJ's YPC until his 12th year! How many deep TDs has SJ caught in the last 3 years as our unquestioned top WR? One, maybe 2?

Basically this argument has devolved into you 5 guys being "right" because you wont accept my definition of a #1. Trying to say theres only "elite" WRs or "number 1 on said team" Some people believe, understand and dont pretend to ignore, what other people mean when they call some one a number 1 type WR.

Proof- When Evans was here many people including media said they didnt think he could be a number 1. what did they mean??? He couldnt catch the most balls on his team?? People began posting demanding him to be traded even though for many years he was our number one in receptions. Calling him a ONE TRICK PONY (so not a complete WR) So why would that argument be made that he wasnt a "number 1 WR"? Wasnt he our #1? He caught the most balls. So all those posts should never have existed because according to your definition, he was a number 1. So was Lees inability to "go over the middle" the QB's fault or was he just not good at it? Either way it was said by many people in many articles that Lee wasnt a true number 1. But he was, wasnt he? He caught the most balls all those seasons right?

So go on with your line of thinking. I predict Sj wont be on the team in 2 years and if Rogers is any good he wont see the field in Pro sets by mid season. (healthy or not)

  13. Just so I'm clear...

The wr who has caught the most balls in nfl history over a 6 year span (Welker) isn't a #1?

umm no, did you read what I wrote? maybe read it again and youll see why. Its not merely about passes caught. It could be his system and hOF QB maybe. But go ahead and cling to one stat.

Yes, there are only 19 teams that have a #1 WR. Just ask him. The rest don't use wideouts. They just go with running backs and tight ends.

very good, take one tiny part of what I wrote, mis-characterize it and pretend your right and intelligent.

if he even had a shred of credibility, he pretty much lost it there.

And..... If he had even a teenie slice of credibility left, he definitely lost it all there.

Mods, can we just remove this troll?

Actually, the more I think about it, maybe this is Crayonz just messing with us again. No.... Wait, Crayonz is at least funny. This guy is crazy.

not trying to be funny, its hardly funny trying to argue with three or four guys who because they agree with eachother think they are right. Many agree with me and some have ripped you in this very thread, they just dont keep wasting time with people who cant stand to hear counter arguments to their beliefs. You probably backed trent edwards for his whole career here too talking about his concussion and bad O line. If you dont agree fine but the facts are solid and if you want to argue a 1 IS A GUY WHO CATCHES THE MOST BALLS FOR THAT TEAM THAT YEAR then I guess youll be right but many people dont see it that way. You refuse to accept the common definition of a 1,you and the other 3 here ripping me. It doesnt ever make you right.

Stop fueling his fire. The base of his argument: He likes Stevie. Stevie isn't fast and isn't clutch. He doesn't like that there are bills fans think he's a #1 WR. He's trying to convince us that he isn't one and that we shouldn't view Stevie as a #1. He'll never convince anyone as he spews "Stevie can't beat people deep" and "Stevie drops a lot of passes". Just a waste of your time guys. No reason to raise your blood pressure over a troll. Let him slip away into oblivion and ignore him.

well said, I actually wrote much more in attempting to prove it ith stats and exmples but those are lost on people who cant read more than a line or two and get so angry they start yelling troll and idiot at the poster. You at least get the point. I dont really go for "credibilty" on a web board. The stats I used are all credible, I just presented the truths that no one can argue against.

    Two points:

    1. I think you're misinterpreting the statistics in the article you linked. The article has 2 lists and they included ALL recievers with over 40 catches. The first list being the top 10 receivers in the league (with over 40 catches), ranked by the total number of drops. Stevie is #10 on that list with 11 drops and a drop rate of 12.22%.

The second list is the receivers ranked by their drop percentage. Stevie isn't on that list. So he's not tied for 2nd worst drop percentage in 2012, he's not even one of the 10 worst.

I think what you were trying to say is that of the 10 receivers with the most drops, Stevie is [almost] tied for 2nd [although he's actually 4th on that list in drop rate; however, statistical significance is something we really don't wanna attemt here].

    2. I remembered different stats for 2011. And, to try and clear it up, I went ahead and looked for the article.

    https://www.profootb...pping-the-ball/

As you can see, Stevie is not on the list of 20 worst receivers in drop percentage. In other words, he's not a "top 10 pass dropper" in 2011. Interestingly, his number of catches were very similar to 2012 (79 vs 76 in 2011), and his drop percentage appears to be fairly similar as well. Albeit, that article doesn't list his actual drop percentage in 2011, but I remember it being in the mid12% range.

Either way the point being... I think you misremembered your stats for 2011.

As for 2010, Stevie was #9 in drop percentage at 13.68%. Just for interest, he was #11 in receptions with 82.

    https://www.profootb...rop-percentage/

So, although he was in the top 10 for drop pass percentage in 2010, he has clearly worked on his consistency and improved his standings in this category and for the last 2 years he's not been one of the league worst regarding dropped passes.

Now... does all this answer the question of him being a true #1 WR? No. But, what it does show is that Stevie has worked on his drop percentage in the last 2 seasons and is not one of the worst in league in dropping passes. So, in the conversation regarding his not being a #1 WR, I think we can remove the "he drops too many balls" from the list of supporting argumentation.

thanks for actually looking and having a respectful intelligent comment. My feeling is percentage is worth more than overall drops since some WRs get more passes thrown at them than others. I did say SJ was bad for 3 years and percentage wise, he was. He may have "improved" in 2011 as you say but being among the top 4 last year means its still currently an issue and you have to take into account that he doesnt make big catches when they count. He has some nice one-handed grabs sometimes in games that are blow outs but he has more big time drops.

I thought when making my point most responses would be like yours, I was wrong, the 3-4 guys are so blatantly biased and selective in what they read and respond to, its not worth even sharing anything unpopular on this board, no matter how intelligent or what stats back up your point. I guess here you just have to say things like, "sj is the best route runner" "SJ owns Revis!!!" etc. "SJ is way better than victor cruz or Vincent Jackson or Desean Jackson or ....etc etc. Ya the 7th rounder who just got relegated to the slot is WAAAAYYY better than all the other WR except megatron. Here are the last few slot guys who played for Blo

    D Nelson (slow and released)

R parrish (small but fast and released)

    J Reed (slow and released)

Did Moulds ever play slot? Did Evans? Andre Reed played a bit but mostly at the end of his career. So why is SJ the slot guy now if hes so good?

  14. So in other words.....your wrong.....and cant back up your "facts"

By the way....I think SJ's numbers go down this year slightly....not because he isn't a very good WR....he is...but because the guy slinging the rock is gonna want to put this speed to work on the field......

so you are admitting SJ is slow here and that ej will want to throw to guys who actually get open deep right? but Im wrong how? SJ doesnt drop alot of balls for being a #1? He does, its factual

    Get some more posts ;-)

my evidence of Stevie having 3 straight 1,000 yard seasons is about as much evidence as yiu say he's not a true #1.

You still haven't posted any definition of what a true #1 is. Pretty sure you won't find it anywhere.

So here's about the best thing I can say about it:

A true number 1 WR is a player that almost always draws the coverage of the opposing teams best defensive back. Stevie does that and he succeeds.

so the "factual evidence" that you claim to have is a half @$$ed article that isn't even in regards to what your trying to prove. And it's only based off one season. The other 2 seasons that you claim are linked were using your word that you "remember seeing it" and "I never saw it but it can't be much better". So glad to see where your "factual evidence" is coming from.

Another point. Calling us Stevie fans "Homers" and "Kool-Aid" drinkers is about as asinine as someone saying that the teams best WR over the past 3 years is anything but a #1 WR when he clearly is the most successful WR on the team and there are 32 teams in the league.

Now if you said "Elite" then you might have an argument. But then again I wouldn't expect you to realize that.

I mention many more facts that are indisputable as well like SJs real numbers against revis, his ypc, etc but as for drops...

Since all articles are written by people, what do you consider factual then? Do i need Roger Goodell to write you a letter? If we count all the balls thrown to stevie and divide the number of drops of catchable balls, he is in a tie for 2nd worst with those other three guys i mentioned. The other chart shows drop percentage for guys who were second or third options catching less than 50 balls a year. The first chart were teams Number 1 options like Marshall and megatron etc. Those guys had way more catches than SJ so of course they have a few more drops but not as high of drop percentage. So you didnt readthe chart correctly, not me.

Also I dont need to find charts and articles form 2-3 seasons ago, I remember reading the same numbers for SJ in 2011 he was a top ten pass dropper, and in 2010 i remember him dropping some too and thinking he had suspect hands. I dont have to provide links to every drop to be right, why dont you find an article showing how great his numbers are regarding drops in those years?

No worries. I can't respond to him bc frankly I'm tired of this debate. I've said all I need to say about Stevie and think people that want to bash him hate him more personally than professionaly.

As for Welker he is a perfect example of new football. I've stated before and "enlightener" falls in the trap of confusing the x receiver with a #1 wr. They used to be the guy on the outside who did it all. They aren't now. They are the #1 receiving option on the team. Could be x,y, or z receivers. Could be a physical freak (megatron) a move the chains type (Hines ward) or slot (Welker).

    Now I've enlightened him!

If youve actually read what I posted it youd know it doesnt matter where a guy lines up and also I dont bash stevie at all, I mention he has skills and I like him but hes not as good as some here suggest. Saying a guy is a great #2 or the 20th best WR in the NFL is far from "bashing" If i mention the drops SJ actually dropped and remark on his speed, which is factually slow, Now Im bashing him?

My definition of #1 guy is a guy that can do it all. Others say its the guy that catches the most balls on his team. Thats conveniently SJs role here making him this teams #1. Welker cant do it all. He cant go over the top of a tall DB, he cant beat many dbs deep, and hes smallish. He can out juke a LB or a 3rd CB underneath and squeak out first downs. This was tom bradys escape valve so his numbers are high, no wonder hes moved to the team with the other HOF qb.

SJ also cannot do it all. He cant beat guys deep. He also cant be relied on in the clutch, he also is now showing 3 years of injury issues. Conditioning maybe?

I finally will ask people to read my OP rather than see one response to a response and misunderstand my take. I still see people clinging to the 1000 yards and revis and SJ being our best wr. None of that makes him a complete WR. It really means our WR were so bad and slow before that SJ was all we had. Why do you think they traded for TJ and last year and for another speedster in Goodwin this year? The new coaches quickly released our big slow guys, using their second on Woods and even took a chance on a troubled Rogers. So they kept Easely but not Nelson, why? Oh yes one has something called speed. And who did the Bills just add to the roster yesterday? A scrub cut from 2 teams already but who runs a 4.17. This speaks for itself how this team was set at WR. SJ has had 0 competition on this team since Evans was traded. Of course he was our #1 But now we have 4-5 new guys who can do what evans could do but stevie cannot...Get open deep.

I think SJ may be the odd man out by the end of this season. Im saying all this and I like SJ and hope he sticks around, but I see SJ now as this teams new Nelson, our third slowish possession WR with Rogers and Woods lining up outside and SJ being replaced with graham or Goodwin when we have to go deep. Lets see if the coaches think the same.

  15. I would love to see the stats that back up your claim about Stevie being #1 in drop percentage over the last 3 years.

    Lets see it...seriously.

Just so you know, I've looked it up, so I know where he ranks.

Time to put up or shut up.

OK MAN HERE IT IS....https://www.profootballfocus.com/blog/2013/01/21/signature-stats-drop-rate-wide-receivers/ breath did I put up enough???

SJ, Cruz and Decker are in a three way tie for second worse in the nfl last year being a 10th of a point apart. I dont have a link for 2011 but I remember seeing it and stevie is close to 1 like I said, you can tell us all since you looked it up, post it! I never saw one for 2010 but I remember quite a few drops that year so it cant be much better.

  16. The ignorant, inflammatory language you have been using throughout your thread is the very definition of what constitutes a troll.

This conversation about SJohnson has occurred many times before, and it occurred without being insulting until you came along and started talking down to people.

If you actually want to engage people in conversation in this forum, perhaps you should reconsider how you go about it......

actually if you read the whole thread youll see people begin using idiot and stupid and troll well before i used such "harsh" language like homers and cool aid drinkers. Maybe if people could express opinions with about being personally insulted they wouldnt feel the need to get further into it and defend themselves. The whole argument is about a bills favorite so If hes not my idea of an all time great Bill I have every right to say that without you or anyone else using my language as an excuse to rip my opinion...Did you pm all the posters who used actual offensive words back when the post started? Are you just angry because I dont have your opinion of SJ? You use ignorant with me, what is ignorant about saying someone is an SJ lover or a homer? thats been said in thousands of posts without being called ignorant and inflammatory. If the posts so ignorant why are people so angry with it? It must have some truth to it or it couldnt even spark a response. Again i find it quite amazing that you would even respond to what I wrote without addressing the words other here used first.
