Buffalo mother arrested after homeschooling children
IDBillzFan replied to B-Man's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
The lack of knowledge and misinformation coming from the resident leftists is remarkable. First of all, homeschooling does not mean your child is off the grid. You are accountable to the state's requirements and have to submit, typically online, attendance, testing, and projects in each subject. You're literally taking photos and videos of your child's work and uploading them for review and approval. Next, there are different curriculum from which you can choose, and as long as they are state approved -- and they are -- then you find the curriculum that best fits your child's needs. You literally pay for the curriculum and are supplied with the books, etc. you need. It's not some dumbass parent teaching their child how to count with their fingers, as they would have you believe. If your child is able to excel in specific subjects, they can test out to move up for that particular subject. That will never happen as a regular function in a public school. There are countless homeschooling groups developed and run by parents, who put together field trips to museums, science centers, etc. These are activities targeted at individual subjects from which you can choose to participate, and because the homeschooling community is self-motivated, they negotiate trips in groups to save parents money. There are tutors and teachers who work one-on-one with students in pretty much any area you can imagine, and advanced individual classes available by private schools in areas like engineering, robotics, art, music, theater. etc. Homeschooling, as an industry, is SO FAR advanced from the ridiculous talking points of people like Exiled and gator that I'm surprised they even bother to opine on the topic. They argue against it for one reason: as leftists, they believe no one should have a choice, and that only the government knows what is best for your child. To dismantle education in America, to leftists, is to say goodbye to billions in federal funding that gets laundered to unions as dues, and then donated to more leftist politicians to put a tighter grip on educational options. It's just that simple. -
Not to defend him, but it's not uncommon for people who are completely unable to think for themselves to exclusively repeat what they're told by their superiors.

So Democrats are obstructionists and the Party of No? My, how times have changed. -
Wow. Do you have any idea how much people pay to watch this kind of drama? Marry a Hilton and you could be the next Hilton.

Buffalo mother arrested after homeschooling children

The conversation with him is ridiculous and wrong. His entire argument is that stupid parents shouldn't teach their kids, and if it were exclusively stupid parents who are teaching the kids, he would almost have the beginning of a point. But no one who walks into the world of homeschooling does it alone, and they sure the hell don't do it based exclusively on the knowledge possessed by their parents. There are established curriculum approved by the state, and classes and tests that have to be administered every week. There are teachers and tutors and countless opportunities to give your child an education far beyond anything you'd get from someone whose employment featured something called 'tenure.' The difference is that you can better target your child's strengths and weaknesses without keeping him or her in a classroom of 30+ Exiles. They can take advanced classes for subjects in which they excel and NOT be held back simply because the public school system doesn't allow your child to move up a grade in a specific subject. Plus, they can expand their education into other classes you'd never find in a public school because too much money goes to pension and not enough to building an expansive curriculum. It's a simple as this: find someone who thinks homeschooling is a bad idea because people are stupid and I'll show you someone who thinks unions are a great idea. -
Nat'l "Right To Work" Law Is Back On The Table
IDBillzFan replied to IDBillzFan's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
I've been working since the age of 12 and I've never needed to collectively bargain for what I was worth as a worker. Here's how I bargain for my salary and work conditions: I work hard. If I don't like what I'm getting paid or the conditions of my employment, I get a better job. Don't want me to leave? Pay me more and improve my conditions. Been working for over 40 years. The idea that I need a group of high-paid lawyers to negotiate what is best for me based on how I fit into a larger group of people that has nothing to do with me is, quite honestly, ridiculous. Your work ethic and abilities should drive your income...not some lawyers who are literally being paid by me if I were to take one of the jobs for which they're bargaining. How stupid is that? -
If Super Bowl XXV was held in Vegas, I'm not sure the Bills would have fielded a team that Sunday.

See you in Vegas.

Look at the two GOP senators who voted against DeVos and follow the money. -
Ever. Sorry to waste the bandwidth. Lesson learned.

You've gone full gatorman on this discussion. Last time and then you can tell everyone you won the internet for the day. I said the Pats* win, many times, because other teams make bad coaching decisions. Somehow, that translates to you as me saying the other teams suck, but that would be ridiculous because even a guy who doesn't follow football knows you don't make it to the SB because you suck. No idea why you're doing that. It makes you feel good, I guess? Secondly, the Pats* don't have the ability to make my head explode. Why? Because I choose not to watch the game and waste my Sunday. Much like your choice to stop watching the Bills and waste your Sunday. Somehow, my choosing to not watch a football game and your choosing not to watch a football game are different because, well, who knows? It makes you feel good, I guess? That's it. You win.
-
Okay, you've been having too many conversations with gator because now you're just hyper-typing nonsense, in addition to somehow convincing yourself you've made my head explode. Please. Don't flatter yourself. I don't like them because I'm tired of them beating my team's ass twice a year, every year for the past gzillion years. And half the time they beat the Bills, it's because of bad coaching decisions by Bills, much like bad coaching decisions by the Seahawks and Falcons gave them SB victories. It's nothing more and nothing less than that. You made a deliberate decision to stop wasting your time watching football. I made a deliberate decision to not waste my Sunday watching the Patriots win another SB. Not sure why yours is such the superior choice. Odd.

Buffalo mother arrested after homeschooling children
IDBillzFan replied to B-Man's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
The list of successful people who were home-schooled is ridiculously long. Da Vinci, C.S. Lewis, Mark Twain, Irving Berlin, Alexander Graham Bell, MacArthur and Patton, Einstein, the Williams sisters and Jason Taylor, Churchill, Charlie Chaplin, FOUR Supreme Court justices, FOURTEEN US presidents. But somehow Exiled has it all figured out that homeschooling is bad. I would argue that if he's the product of public schooling, he actually makes a case against himself. He should understand how homeschooling actually works before ranting about it because it is absolutely nothing like what he is whining about. -
Never, ever once said they sucked. Not once. Not ever. I'm genuinely not sure what you're trying for here, but re-read what I initially wrote.

Ugh. I really wish when people quote posters I have on ignore it wouldn't show the ignored person's comments. Because his rant is, single handedly, one of the most ridiculous rants against homeschooling that I have heard to date. It is borne through nothing short of inaccurate assumptions and and absolutely no understanding of how homeschooling works...which is why I choose to ignore people like him. Even when he tries to be coherent, he's incoherent. -

That's really the telling part here. It suggests someone didn't like her choices. -

I agree with Krauthammer on this. If Obama made this statement, the right would be puking themselves. It was truly a moral equivalency thing, as most lifetime Democrats like Trump have had no problem taking that stance in the past. -

Holy crap. That's absolutely stunningly sad. I can't imagine how horrible it must be to have your children taken away from you because of someone else's incompetence. -
Anybody who truly follows football knew it wasn't over. That's what made the liberal crowing at halftime so funny. And thanks for the advice, but I don't need to come to grips with anything. I simply don't like them. Kinda like how you don't like people who can't whip up an amazing meal with nothing more than a pocket knife, some dental floss, a lost pet cockatoo and their great-grandpappy's Zippo.

On the upside, I expect Apatow to soon receive his "Thanks for your contribution" letter from Trump/Pence 2020. Once again. Best. Meltdown. Ever.
