<snip>
Would like to know your thoughts on a fair way to assess a new hire.
You wait a year before passing judgment.

Unless he's running read-option, RG3 is half the QB EJ is. He cannot play in the pocket and now he can't run because he's glass.
There's no way I'd make that trade.

Not impressed with all of the dismissals and such just to bring in coaches from Jest or he happened to work with previously.
Pepper is no longer listed on website.
I would rather he being looking at the best he can not just those he know.
Funny how he makes crack about loyalty of Marrone but what about the loyalty to assistant coaches who worked hard for season last year?
It goes both ways.
He must believe the guys he brought in are good fits, share his vision, and are good coaches. Other than looking really hard to find something to complain about, what exactly is your beef?

There are links all over tbd and the forums here.
Thanks. It's kind of amazing I hadn't notice them despite visiting regularly for over 15 years...

Cool, thanks Nanker!
EDIT: I meant the sabrespace forum - I had already found TSW!

The message board is fine, just the news portion is down.
I always go in from the main page,. what is the URL for the forum?

It was the definition of a clean hit. Shoulder to the chest. You may have called it "Hitting a defenseless receiver" but the point of football is to prevent the other guy from catching the ball. Brooks did it perfectly.
Refs also called a chintzy Roughing the QB penalty on Orton so it evened out in the end.
I thought it was a terrible call but luckily the D held the Pats to a FG on that drive anyway.
-
With the retirement of Kyle Orton and the lost faith in Manuel, and add the fact that the QB FA crop is average at best, AND no first round pick, does Marrone pull the rip cord and exercise his out clause within the next few days? Seems very possible...
Does thinking a 10-year vet is more developed than a guy who has less than a full season's worth of games under his belt mean that somebody has lost faith in EJ?

Congrats man, she's a cutie.

Most of the reporters that cover the bills daily are very smug, yet for what ? When is the last time they broke a story or had a interesting slant or a creative idea ?
He's not very popular here but Tim Graham's work is pretty good.
And to answer your question, the Talley story he broke should earn him Pulitzer consideration.

no one said the questions were "mean."
Yep, they're not mean questions, they're just kinda stupid. What is a player going to do - throw his teammates under the bus?
Besides, an "us against the world" bunker mentality is a powerful motivator. If players rally around each other by believing media is trying to drive a wedge between them, I'm all for it.

*(sigh)* You do not fire an HC after a 8 or 9 win season. Period. -It's a horrifically gut-wrenching truth that I struggle with every day.
Back to back eight-win seasons after multiple 12 or 13 win years could be a problem. However, it's not one we have.
So..... The Maroon stays.
I disagree with him changing the culture though.... CLEARLY the Schwartz's leadership is behind the defensive swagger, which is the ONLY reason why we're winning games. Shwartz has Dareus and K-dub playing out of their minds. Bradham and Brown are also flourishing and (IMO) overachieving in his system.
Jim Schwartz's D is a HUGE part of our O.
By contrast, Nate Hackett's contributions to our success have been negligible. He can leave town TONIGHT for all I care.
HACKETT SUCKS. We'll be in better shape once we get an OC who believes in scoring in the red zone, and getting first downs.
I generally love hyperbole but the bolded part is ridiculous.
Hackett doesn't whiff on blocks, reads, or throws.
If the OL can find a way to elevate their play and if we get more production out of the QB position, Hackett will look a lot smarter. I know that's nuanced and the "Fire the coach!" crowd won't like reading it, but it's true.

there was a time that it was played at random or it was after every great play, and it only seemed to be random
I moved away in '92 but I don't remember that at all - I only remember hearing it after a score.
-
Yet Lee Smith remains.
Yes, every team should release a TE so they can keep a FB who isn't even good enough to be active on game days. Solid plan.

Jim Kelly and Polian agree with Russ FWIW
Caught a little espn while eating lunch. Polian was on and said: "I think Doug Marrone should get Coach of the Year consideration. People who don't know the Bills don't know about Marrone but that's a name you should get used to because you'll be hearing it for years."
For the record, I like Marrone - he seems to have a little bit of that Belichick "FU" in him.

I wonder what the comments would be if it was say Kiko on the receiving end of exactly the same play.
I suspect somewhat different.
It was at the very least borderline dirty to me. Well behind the play but probably close enough not to get a call for that.
But if you look at the link above, you can see Woods lower his head and hit CM what looks to be in the chin. You can further see this was most likely the case by looking at the way CMs head moves after the contact.
I don't like cheap shots if the Bills player is giving or receiving them.
My reaction would be entirely different: Instead of cheering I would've said "C'mon Kiko, keep your head up out there."
-
cmon, i cant believe how many people are asking if this is true...or you all just all being sarcastic and are in on the joke?
I think it's more along the lines of just playing along

Packers fan attacked my friend that works at the stadium. The pack fan decided he was going to block the entrance to an area of the suites as my friend was trying to get back to work and the fan attacked him as he tried to get by. Smh.
Also a funny story. The Packers injured players were in a suite next to st. Doug s wife's and were talking trash to her. So once the bills went up Marrone's wife went into the pack suite and mooned them. A security guard had to be placed in between the two suites.
Is that true? If so, I think I love Mrs Marrone!
-
Couldn't help but wonder if the shot Fred took was in the back of Woods' mind on that play. But it wasn't illegal.
-
What does this mean? Why even say it unless Whaley/Russ/someone else is putting pressure on him to play EJ?
Don't read too much into it. It means there may be members of the media or some fans who will call for EJ to start.
-
Looks like a grimace to me.
-
Nate Hackett.
I know, I know. It's just that I don't think his calls are bad, they just look that way because they aren't executed very well.

AP Source: #Bills reach deal to waive injured receiver Mike Williams. Story just moved. Link coming.

Wow, I'm surprised no one sees it even a little my way. My first glance I see CJ Anderson sitting on his azz short of the goal line.
I'll give you that he appears to be down but I don't see the ball. The arrow appears to be pointing to the blue sock of his teammate - see the pants stripe above it?
The ball could be his hidden from view near his face mask and therefore across the plane. We just can't tell from that image.

Yep.
Defense is still part of the game. Force a turnover, hold them to a punt.
