  1. I have a copy of it with Berman at the beginning ("He could go all the way) & end (nobody circles the wagons...) followed by Marv (Where else would you rather be?)

If you send me your e-mail address, I can send you an mp3 of it.

    GO BILLS!

    Yes We Chan!!!!!!!!!

If you don’t mind, can you send me a copy of that too? I’m going to send you an email with Bills Shout song in the subject line so you know I’m not spam.

  2. He’s got to get on the field first, he’s been injured all preseason. Word is he may be active this week against the Steelers. I agree he showed flashes at CB and as a returner but if he can’t get on the field, he’s going to have a hard time making the team. I do like the comparison to Greer. Personally, I’d rather we keep Rogers than McLovin.

  3. Gotta go with Levitre. IMO teams are built in the trenches. A great o-line and d-line can make average players behind them look better than they really are. I really do like Byrd and think he’s a really good player but if I had to choose, I think it would be easier to replace him than Levitre.

It shouldn’t matter. We have the cap space to resign both so it shouldn’t be a problem if both players want to stay here.

  4. merriman was a waste a cap space........and general space for that matter........good to see the bills cutting a useless backup, they need to trim so more but got the right idea here.....big black mark for nix but good on him for admitting it, finally

He was worth a shot, even if it was a long shot. The hope was he’d regain his form and be close to the player he once was. Didn’t work, we moved on. I don’t look at it as a black mark against Nix, at least he tried. I’d only consider it a waste of cap space if him being on the roster prohibited us from signing another player but since we are nowhere near the cap ceiling, and signed the biggest FA prize to a huge contact, I highly doubt that was the case.

  5. I don't get the impression he's suffering though. Even a 3rd string QB gig in the NFL is one HELLUVA job to have. I wish the kid good luck and good health.

    GO BILLS!!!

He'll be lucky to win that 3rd string job…he’s a long shot at best. Vick is #1, Kafka, who is hurt right now, is #2 and the rookie Foles is #3. Foles looked pretty good last night so he may be #2 before long. No way they cut Vick or Foles so TE is fighting with Kafka for the last roster spot. When they traded Kolb last year, Andy Reid said he liked Kafka’s upside.

I wish Trent nothing but luck. I fell asleep just as he got into last night’s game so all I saw him do was 1 check down pass that was dropped but have no idea how he did after that.

He was out of football last year which could explain why he looks skinnier.

  6. What about McGee as a free safety? Other veteran CB's have made this transition near the end of careers. Chan has expressed a desire to add depth at safety...perhaps it's already here?

That's actually not a bad idea, but I don't think it will happen. Bottom line is McGee isn't healthy, if he was he would make a great Nickle back. I doubt the Bills are going to cut a young healthy guy, to keep a battered unhealthy veteran, with a veteran salary.

I'm a big McGee fan, but his football time might be over.

    He's not big enough.

I’ve wondered this in another post as well. If he has lost a step and more importantly can get healthy, I think this could be a good move for him. He’s got the smarts and has never been afraid to make a tackle.

McGee is 1 inch shorter and 2 pounds heavier than Byrd is so he’s not too small to make the switch. Especially since he wouldn’t be asked to be the full time FS, he’d be a backup/package player.

I would really hate for him to get cut without at least getting a chance to get on the field. I wish we would have put him on the PUP list before training camp to really give him time to get healthy. If he has anymore setbacks, I see him ending up on IR again.

  7. Williams, Kelsay, Merriman, Anderson

    Dareus, Williams, Johnson, Heard

    Carrinton/Edwards/Moore for the final two.

Troupe has zero chance in my book.

I believe Edwards is ahead of Heard and has a better shot to make the team unless Edwards is a cap casualty, which I hope doesn’t happen. We’re not near the cap so keep the best players regardless of salary. IMO Heard is just a space eater and that’s not what Wanny is looking for so I don’t think he makes it. I like Carrington’s versatility which I think will be important for the #5 DE or DT. Let’s see if he can show some consistency in the next 3 preseason games. Troup to IR. Let him get fully healthy and then let’s see what he can do next year. He’s got skills, he just can’t get/stay healthy. Whether he’s on IR or on the street, I just don’t see Troup in a Bills uniform this season.

Keep Mario, Kelsay, Merriman, Anderson, Moore @ DE and Dareus, Kyle, Johnson, Edwards, Carrington @ DT.

  8. It would have to be the comeback against Moon Man and the Oilers. Gosh I still remember the gigantic smile on Bruce's face right after the winning field goal. If that game won't make your body rush with adrenaline, nothing will. What a game.

The Bills shellacking of Jay Shroeder and his Raider cohorts is up there too.

Finishing off Elway in the AFC Championship game with an interception was one of the best nail biters. I think it was Leon Seals? I could be wrong.

    Too many good memories....

Carlton Bailey is the name you’re looking for...on a pass tipped by Jeff Wright. What a play that was!!

The comeback game would be a great one…especially since it was blacked out locally and wasn’t on TV. I remember listening to it on the radio and Van going nuts.

    But…

I would have to go with the 2 championship games in the 60s since that was before my time. It would be really nice to have a memory of seeing a Buffalo team win a championship live.

  9. The rules have changed as of last year. The 3rd QB doesn't have all those extra restrictions like they used to. e.g. 1st string QB CAN come back into the game. So the 3rd QB slot becomes a potentially useful slot, not just deadweight like before.

The backup (2nd string) QB has not had any restrictions on the 1st string QB IIRC. The only restriction that I can remember is just like any player, that if they leave the field due to injury they have to wait a play before coming back in. So that's why the backup QB has sometimes still been on the field when the starter looks ready to return after being 'shaken up'.

Old rules. Changed as of last year, and why we brought Brad Smith onto the team, because he CAN be brought out and do something useful. (run the wildcat)

This is correct. The “Emergency QB” rule was removed a few years ago. You are now allowed to dress 46 players on game day rather than the old 45 + 3rd QB. Also, the player designated as the 3rd QB does not have to actually be a QB, it can be any position player. So Chan isn’t listing Brad Smith as the 3rd QB simply to take advantage of this rule, he really believes BS can be the 3rd QB on the 53 man roster this year in addition to playing WR and ST. Now if Fitz gets hurt, I’ll bet they bring in someone else to be the #2 behind either Thigpen or Young rather than having Smith actually be the backup QB.

  10. I don't know about the Lions, Ravens or Texans, but you are right about the others, they don't need to use it cause their offence is already strong enough that they don't need it. They have the best QBs in the league running their offences and they succeed without it. But theres more then one way to win games, and the Bills coaching staff feels that adding this to their arsenal can help them take advantage at times.

As for the comments about VY being able to run the WC, Wheres the proof in this? Just because he can scramble, it doesn't mean he can run that offence. Also, he would have to be neamed the 3rd string QB so that he can come in and out of the game without removing Fitz from it for the remainder of the game. Only the 3rd string QB can come in and out to replace the starting QB without the starter being removed.

But of course, fans on a teams internet message board always know more about how to run a teams offence or defence then the team itself.............

Sorry but this isn't correct. The back-up can come in for the starting QB anytime without removing the starter from the rest of the game. That rule is gone. It used to be they could dress 45 guys on game day with 1 3rd string QB and if that QB played, the other 2 could not come back into the game. Now they just allow teams to dress 46 players and they can all come in and out as much as the coach wants them to.
  11. With this fantasy scenario, I’m assuming it would be set in 2012 so the players we pick would have the same weight training, etc that the modern players do. With that said, I’m going old school with Samuel Adrian "Slingin' Sammy" Baugh. I don’t know how fast he was but any player that could lead the league in passing, interceptions and punting in the same season must have been one heck of an athlete…I don’t care what generation he played in.

Honorable mentions to Jim Brown & Lawrence Taylor. To the poster that said Jim Brown wouldn’t be able to bang with today’s lineman…sorry but I think you’re nuts. He was one Bad A** Mo Fo.

  12. How does our O-line look? I keep reading how the defense is blowing by them, especially the tackles. I expect the defense to be ahead of the offense at this point and know that we finally have some really good D-lineman but is it cause for concern? I know it’s early in camp and all but I’m curious. It would be nice if Fitz had 3+ seconds to throw the ball this year.

Thanks OP for the excellent camp recap!!!!

  13. Guys he tore his patellar tendon in Dec 2011. He will be lucky to be able to jog by November. Very little if any chance he plays with any team in 2012. Even if healthy I don't see a role for him. He is not needed for ST's as a returner or a gunner. He will not beat out Searcy for back-up playing time or three safety packages. With Scott being able to play both OLB and SS and both Wilson and Searcy being able to play SS and FS I don't see a need for another safety. I would rather keep an extra DB even if it is a less than 100% McGee.

McGee had the same injury at about the same time so they’re probably on about the same pace to recovery…which doesn’t bode well for JL getting signed at this point but you never know, people do heal differently.

We cut JL because we had an up and coming safety named Ko Simpson. If healthy enough to contribute, signing JL would be a good for depth. I haven’t seen enough out of Searcy to know if we can count on him if Wilson or Byrd goes down. JL could pick up our defense in no time so even if we waited awhile to sign him, the lost time wouldn’t hurt him too badly.

Since we are thin at safety and looks like we might have to cut a decent CB, I wonder if McGee could play FS?

  14. I know it's just Wikipedia but here's a decent explanation of the PUP. Has McGee taken the field for practice at all? Does riding a bike on the sidelines constitute taking the field for practice?

He was such a classy guy, I’d really like him to be able to be a member of a playoff team at least once. It’s hard to say what his skill level is right now because we haven’t seen him healthy for so long.

  15. When healthy, was this guy even any good?

Being in Carolina I’ve seen him play and would kind of compare him to Mike Williams…lots of natural ability, just hasn’t shown the desire to be great. He could have played through some of his injuries but chose not to. Maybe he would have if the Panthers had a shot at winning but even if that were the case, it really shows his character.

As a Bills fan, I say great move NYJ!! Can’t wait to see Sanchize on his back…over and over and over.

  16. 4/26/2008, Raleigh, NC outdoor Amphitheatre, front row center for one of my personal favorite bands, Widespread Panic. It is quite a sight turning around and seeing almost 20,000 people behind you. Special guest Ann Marie Calhoun came out and played the violin with them. Didn’t know who she was at the time but she’s gorgeous!!! Even all the ladies in the crowd were saying as much. I’ve gotten up front to see many bands but never actually had tickets telling me I should be in the 1st row, dead center in a venue that big. By the end of the show, about 20 of our friends made it up into the 1st few rows. Shortly after the show, the band put a video out that’s still on YouTube and most of us are in it although you can only see the top of my head. Google WSP with Ann Marie if interested but FYI, I have no idea who shakin’ my head guy is.
