Ditto. Out 1st Throwback uni was a MNF game vs. Denver in the 90’s. Because we weren’t allowed to wear white helmets, the red one with a white, grazing buffalo looked hideous. It looked like a flock of geese let loose together overhead.. 🤦‍♂️

It wasn’t that we weren’t allowed to wear white helmets, we chose not to…some say due to the cost. 🤔

A few teams wore different colored helmets that year.

So Fitz doesn't play a significant role in the team's history, at least for you.

    Correct?

Why?  Tell us more.  You haven't really said anything.

He was only here for 4 average seasons. He won a few big games but was nothing more than the best of a long line of bad Buffalo QBs.

Awesome guy but not even close to WOF worthy.

What happens when the FIRST TEAM has a drive of 8 minutes or longer?

Do you really want to rely on a 2 Minute drive?

ever heard of a 10 minute drive?

    how long is OT?

My understanding is they treat it just like regular 15 min quarters. Team 1 uses 10 mins, if team still 2 still has ball after 5 mins, they switch sides and keep going. Just like they would from 1st to 2nd quarter. After that, it’s just like old school sudden death - they keep playing 15 min quarters until someone scores.

Every team in the league used analytics. Some more than others, but most used them at least a fair amount.

And nearly all used it on accept/defer decisions.

How many teams deferred when they won the coin toss at the beginning of games? 251:25. That's analytics. And a lot of the 25 were because of the wind. It'll be the same here, IMO. We'll see the ratio tip quite a bit to one side or the other. IMO it'll be to deferring.

Oh, and as for teams that use analytics a lot not making the playoffs, take a look at these articles about how the Rams use analytics a lot.

    https://ramblinfan.com/2021/04/08/la-rams-data-analytics-continues-to-advance-each-year/

    https://ramblinfan.com/2021/04/11/la-rams-statistician-sarah-bailey-views-data-analytics/

And I may be wrong, but I seem to remember the Rams making the playoffs last year.

LOL. Deferring the opening coin toss is completely different than deferring the OT coin toss. I would defer to start the game every time but never to finish the game.

I also wasn’t saying teams don’t use analytics at all, I was referring to those similar situations - going for 2 and even going on 4th down when it’s against conventional thinking. The Chargers should have been a playoff team but their coach’s reliance on analytics cost them a few games.

Your article also doesn’t mention any game scenarios that analytics were used.

So you think a coach that just watched a team drive down the field to score on your defense and then you matched - you now know that it will go to sudden death and you may never touch the ball and you think the majority of coaches go for the tie.

No way - this is not the 70’s - we saw it play out a bunch during the season - many teams even in the regular season went for 2 and the win.  In addition- several teams passed on tying FGs to try and score TDs to win games.

I think there would be a rare coach that might try to tie, but I think the majority go for the win.

Assuming your defense hasn’t been depleted by injury and they’ve made some stops in the game already, yes. You trust your players to make plays. If you don’t you lose the game and the locker room.

How many of those teams that went for 2 and the win in the regular season converted?  How many were playoff teams? Could be wrong but I don’t recall any. The teams that tried on a regular basis did so because they knew they weren’t good enough and had nothing to lose.

  6. You take the ball every time, try to score and put the pressure on the other team. Even if the other team scores I think they kick the XP to tie and keep the game going 99% of the time. I can’t see any team going for 2 in OT of a playoff game unless you don’t trust your kicker or your defense.

I think some of you put too much into analytics in that situation. Definitely more than most NFL coaches do. The few coaches that did use analytics a lot didn’t make the playoffs.

So what is the alternative? Are you only going to accept the justice system as the arbiter of criminal guilt and civil liability if they are perfect and never err? Because that will never happen. Contrary to some perceptions the justice system is actually better now than it has ever been at rectifying mistakes and miscarriages of justice which were always there and always will be there.

I do agree that things are not perfect and never will be.

It doesn’t change the fact that I firmly believe Watson has done what he has been accused of and think that guilt doesn’t only apply in the court of law. I also have no issues with people holding him accountable for his actions since the courts cannot.

Take care GB. I do appreciate your takes. Hope to chat with you again on a much more enjoyable topic.

Agree, the system is not perfect, it is not infallible. It is just infinitely better than the alternative. My concern is that over the last 20/30 years you are starting to see a creep towards the import into the criminal justice system of emotion. It needs to be resisted at all costs.

I think the emotion is starting to creep in more and more due to the overall number of cases where we see someone who has very likely done what they are accused of getting off on a technicality or because they can essentially buy their way out of it. Or even the number of wrongful convictions we see being turned over years later. It happens way too often in the US and as it keeps happening, it erodes the publics confidence in the system. Our system favors the wealthy, always has.

In order to try and prosecute Watson, these women would be dragged though the mud of public opinion and forced to relive the experience over again. That is why so many of the he said she said situations go unprosecuted in this country. In large part the women don’t want to go through it when it’s 50/50 that the accused will be held liable.  How many women get raped only to be called a *****?  Way too many.

This is why so many of us disagree with some of your rationale and it’s likely due to how your exposure differs from ours. You seem to be looking at this as black and white where we see it as a huge gray area because we see it happen locally all the time.

If someone does something horrible/illegal but there is little evidence and everyone is too afraid to testify, are they really innocent? You seem to think they are but many of us have seen it enough to logically conclude they are not.

As I said, justice systems, the models that they use and how the system works is literally my career. I need no lectures on how it works. But the system also depends on a presumption of innocence. You don't have to prove yourself innocent. As you say, the burden is on the prosecution. For no indictment it means not only that there was reasonable doubt but that was no reasonable chance of a conviction. If the grand jury thought the evidence presented gave a reasonable chance of conviction they would have indicted. You are innocent until proven guilty, Deshaun Watson is innocent. You might not like it, you might not believe it, but your belief is irrelevant.

As for moral judgments... yes people are free to make them. People are free to dislike Deshaun Watson. This episode makes him a dislikeable character. But he is fully entitled to continue his career and his life and I will defend until the end his right to do that. Because courts of law decide guilt or liability. Courts of public opinion and people's moral judgments do not.

You are allowed to feel whatever you want, as is any uncomfortable Cleveland fan who doesn't want to support him, but they are doing it without a true understanding of the situation and despite there being no criminal charge brought. He is fully entitled to get on with his career as an innocent man.

I do agree with your overall premise of innocence until proven guilty but I completely disagree with this statement you made: “If the grand jury thought the evidence presented gave a reasonable chance of conviction they would have indicted.”

When it comes to these high profile cases, prosecutors want a lot more than a reasonable chance of conviction, they want an overwhelming likelihood of conviction. IMO some prosecutors won’t even try if there’s a chance the court may find them innocent. They don’t want to be the one that allows a court to rule someone who they believe is obviously a sexual predator is innocent simply because there’s no hard evidence. Right or wrong politics play a role.

That is why I personally never expected any criminal charges against him and fully expect him to settle all civil cases with payoffs, non disclosure agreements and a statement saying it is not an admission of guilt.

Do you think his cryptic tweet is in reference to Deshaun Watson trade or Brandon Beane saying getting him a new contract isn't a priority?

I love Diggs and hope he does get paid but I would hate to start having WR drama at OBD.

Obviously still debating wheels vs. doors.

Not defending calling you names or anything but you did state we need a true #1 CB. The only interpretation of that statement is in your opinion Tre is not a top CB. What we need is a true #2 CB to go next to Tre.
